  • Paris Motor Show: 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept

2013-Volkswagen-Golf-GTI-Concept-THUMB2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept is going to make its motor show debut in Paris this week. The seventh-generation of the emblematic model comes with new visual appearance, new technology, engines, safety and infotainment features.

The GTI Concept is powered by an advanced 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine which generates 220 hp (162 kW). In addition as an option the car will also be available with a “performance pack”. It will enhance the car’s maximum power to 230 hp (170 kW).

Furthermore, the entry-level car’s maximum torque has been increased to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) thus giving the Volkswagen impressive flexibility and in-gear acceleration. The acceleration time from zero to 100 km/h here is only 6.6 seconds and the top speed is153 mph. However, when the performance pack is added, the top speed is increased to 155 mph, and the sprint time falls to 6.5 seconds.

Another important thing to be mentioned is that this performance pack not only enhances the performance but also the handling, with front brake disc diameters increased, plus a front axle differential lock which reduces power-related understeer.

Next, both GTI versions will be equipped with a standard Stop/Start system. Their engines will be matched to a six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option for both power levels.

As a standard, here is included a variable ratio steering system which. This basically allows the person driving the car to turn the car through a desired radius with smaller movements of the steering wheel.

In addition the new Golf GTI has a variable steering ratio, which reduces steering input during maneuvering and parking. The car also benefits from the technological advancements included such as reduced weight, new safety systems (multi-collision brake) and innovative infotainment systems.

What distinguishes the concept model from the regular Golf VII are the numerous external and internal styling features, including red brake callipers, honeycomb grille with double red stripe detail, smoked LED rear lights and LED licence plate illumination and chrome 80 mm diameter tailpipes.

The interior is equipped with tartan sports seats, a flat bottomed steering wheel, GTI golf ball gear knob and GTI-specific red ambience lighting hark back to cars of previous generations while remaining completely up to date and refreshed for the new generation.

  • Paris Motor Show: 2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid

2013-Honda-CR-Z-Hybrid-THUMB2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid has just been unveiled at the Paris Motor Show exhibiting improvements focusing on style and performance. Some updated parts of the exterior and interior enhance the styling of the car and on the other hand the power of both the petrol engine and electric motor has been increased to 137 hp (100 kW) without comprising fuel economy or increasing exhaust emissions.

Furthermore, the car is also equipped with Lithium Ion battery and a Plus Sport (S+) boost system. Some of the changes which emphasize are the new front bumper design, which frames a revised grille, the new aerodynamic rear diffuser design and 17 inch alloy wheels.

The Honda model will be offered in two bold new colours – Energetic Yellow and Aurora Violet. The designers have also considered the interior which is now with a new colour scheme. On the other hand revisions to the door casings improve the cabin storage.

The old 1.5-litre petrol engine has been upgraded with changes to the variable valve timing system and Engine Control Unit (ECU). An anti-vibration knock sensor has been added and the material of the crankshaft has been upgraded. The peak power output has been increased from 114 hp (84 kW) to 121 hp (89 kW).

The improvements continue with the electric motor system, which is visible through the new Lithium Ion battery. The latter replaces the old Nickel-metal hybrid (Ni-MH) battery. The new version now delivers increase of power from 14 hp (10 kW) to 20 hp (15 kW).

The engine works in unison with the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system. The IMA now delivers a combined output of 137 hp (101 kW) at 6600 rpm and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft). To go even further into details this means that the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h for the CR-Z is possible only for 9.0 seconds. The top speed is 124 mph, while the combined consumption is 56.5 mpg and 116 g/km of CO2.

Moreover, the Plus Sport (S+) boost system works when the battery is more than 50 per cent charged. In this case the driver can activate this system using the S+ button on the steering wheel.

What happens is that when the accelerator is pressed, then the electric boost begins thus delivering increased acceleration for up to ten seconds. A flashing gauge on the dashboard indicates when the system is active. S+ can be used in ECON, Normal or Sport modes.

The revised CR-Z will go on sale in January 2013.

  • Prior Design Audi R8 PD GT850 – Seduction in Red

Prior Design Audi R8 PD GT850 is the latest and breathtaking tuning of the folks from the studio Prior Design. Being a true Audi R8, the supercar impresses with both outstanding look and spectacular driving performance. However, this fact didn’t stop the tuners and they have put all their efforts in order to make it even better.

The result is truly impressive, we must admit. They have turned this Audi model into a brutal PD-GT850 racing style car. Here we can see that the front is entirely revised, where a front apron with widenings and an integrated carbon spoiler was installed.

Furthermore, two air inlet covers were integrated and were applied with two carbon struts each. In addition, the motor cowl has an integrated air outlet with four lamellae. And if we have to ask why this incredible car looks much wider, well the answer lies in the installation of a set of new front mudguards.

Next to be mentioned is the improved air circulation along the vehicle sides. This was achieved by installing aerodynamically formed side sills that also optionally light the vehicle underbody with four LED lamps.

The tail area could have been taken off of a GT3-racing car. A massive tail spoiler and a tail bumper with lateral air inlets, as well as a Carbona application put a lot more power onto the rear axle. Of course, the powerful stance here is complemented by tail widenings.

A great deal here is also the matching wheel/tyre combination for the R8. Now the car runs on a 3-part ADV1 Concave-wheel in 20 inch with Continental tyres in 265/30R20 and 325/25R20.

prior design audi r8 pd-gt850 engine

Prior-Design also offers as an option here a special sports exhaust system with flap control. For the “small” 4.2 FSI engine the power can be raised from 420 (309 kW) to 475 hp (350 kW). In addition there is an option which includes compressor conversion with power upgrade which reaches a full 565 hp (415 kW).
