  • Volvo xc90 recharge plug-in hybrid wins large SUV of the year title in the news UK motor awards

    ??????????????????

Volvo’s XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid has been named the Large SUV of the Year in the News UK Motor Awards. This fourth major honor so far this year for the flagship of the Volvo range reinforces the success of the company’s ambitious electrification program and the strong market appeal of its seven-seat SUV.

Announcing the award yesterday, Will Dron, Driving.co.uk Editor, said: “Plug-in hybrids really can be the best of both worlds when topped up with electricity every day, but the Volvo XC90 Recharge offers a lot more besides potential fuel savings and ultra-low emissions. The calming, minimalist interior seats seven in comfort, the ride quality is class-leading and the powertrain really packs a punch. Performance, practicality, frugality, technology, and luxury in one package – we were really impressed.”

    Market-leading electrification strategy
Volvo has taken a market lead in making plug-in hybrids available across its entire UK model range, giving customers access to a wide choice of ‘part-time electric cars’ to suit their needs. This move prefaces the company’s roll-out of a series of fully electric vehicles – spearheaded by the new XC40 Recharge Pure Electric – supporting its corporate goal of becoming a carbon-neutral global business by 2040.

    Power with efficiency
The T8 petrol-electric powertrain in the XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid is not only the most powerful in the line-up, with a 303hp petrol engine and an 87hp electric motor, it also delivers exceptional efficiency, giving an all-electric range of up to 30.4 miles, CO2 emissions from 63g/km and fuel economy of up to 100.9mpg (WLTP Combined cycle).

The XC90’s impeccable performance credentials are matched by its luxurious equipment level, advanced safety, and driver-assistance systems, comfort, seamless connectivity, and designed-in practicality for day-to-day use.

Kristian Elvefors, Volvo Car UK Managing Director, said: “We are honored to receive this award for the XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, a model that sits at the pinnacle of our range and which represents the core qualities we are building into all our cars – not least cleaner and highly efficient new electrified powertrains. We’re proud to be making these available to our customers without compromising the safety, quality, performance, and practicality upon which we have built our success as a brand.”

  • Volvo XC40 earns five-star rating at 2018 NCAP tests

2018 Volvo XC40Volvo’s popular XC40 takes one more prestigious award home thanks to its participation in the 2018 Euro NCAP tests. As always the vehicle earned the maximum five stars for safety features and joins its large siblings 60 and 90 series as one of the safest vehicles on the road today.

2018 Euro NCAP tests are considered to be extremely demanding and tough and what is also notable about this event is that it puts on the test every new and trendy technology in the field of safety on test and numerous experiments that showcase whether the addition is just a gimmick or it really contributes to driver and passengers’ safety.

What might well be interesting for our viewers is the fact that there is no a single Volvo vehicle that has failed the NCAP exams. In fact, all models have received the maximum five star ratings. For example, XC60 was crowned the overall best-performing large off-roader and best overall performer in the Euro NCAP 2017 Best in Class Safety Awards. XC90 has followed this tradition and won the same prize back in 2015.

  • X-Men: Apocalypse is here and so are the cars of your favorite characters! Check them out!

Wolverine Driving 1988 Toyota Hilux The “X-Men: Apocalypse” is probably one of the most awaited superhero movies this year and we are all hoping it is not a huge disappointment like “Batman vs. Superman”. The premiere of blockbuster-to-be movie is happening now and the hype is extremely huge. This was probably the reason for the appearance of these interesting renderings, which show what car models would the superheroes of X-Men drive. We would love to know your opinion about them, so make sure you leave a comment below. Is there anything unexpected you see or would you offer a better car for any of the characters?

Wolverine Driving the Nasty Toyota Hilux from 1988

If you have thought that the Wolverine would go for anything smaller, you would be wrong. The 1988 Toyota Hilux seems the perfect car for him with its rugged appearance and go-anywhere capabilities. In fact, in this rendering it almost looks indestructible… just like the protagonist played by Hugh Jackman.

SEE ALSO: Honda Jazz Type R, Ford Ka ST, Volkswagen up! GTi and the BMW M i3 are the craziest vehicles you’ll see this weekend!

As you can see, this Hilux isn’t ordinary, but it has a few extra features to help Wolverine in his duties. These include huge and custom-made wheels and retractable blades, which give him the strength and ferocity to destroy the enemies.

Magneto Driving a BMW M6 Coupe

Magneto Driving a BMW M6 Coupe

Any questions? Who would say anything else if this is the choice of the mighty Magneto. The character played by Michael Fassbender has chosen the beautiful maroon BMW M6 Coupe, which looks almost as stylish and sexy as he does. The slick high-speed car jumps to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in mere 3.9 seconds, so he will have no trouble escaping any hard situation.

In this render, the body of the car is made from the same material as the helmet he wears, thus increasing his resistance to any incoming telepathy. In addition, he will sit behind a bulled prove glass (not that he needs it) and will ride his BMW on superior wheels.

    Mystique’s Blue Skinned BMW i8

    Mystique Driving BMW i8

Jennifer Lawrence is playing Mystique, and her character has chosen the electric BMW i8. Made of carbon-fiber, she’s even faster, more agile and ready to make her enemies regret that they are alive. With blue scaly skin and flashing yellow headlights her i8 is almost as beautiful as she is.

Charles Xavier Has Chosen the Tesla Model X

Charles Xavier Driving Tesla Model X

There is no other car than Tesla’s Model X that is perfect for Charles Xavier. James McAvoy’s character is science genius, who can not drive anything less than a vehicle made by a genius (like Elon Musk). He will also have no trouble accessing his spacious car, because of its double rear door entry. Sitting behind bullet proof windows he will manage the important duties and control the actions of the X-Men team.

    Apocalypse’s Mercedes-AMG 63 6×6

    Apocalypse Driving Mercedes-AMG 63 6x6

Apocalypse is the longest survivor of all the X-Men and this is why the vehicle chosen for this character is the six-wheeled Mercedes-AMG 63 6×6. Each Armour panel of this machine is intricately designed in art from another age. With these exaggerated wheels, the X-Men are set to destroy or finally save the world!

Cyclops Has Chosen the Shelby Mustang GT350R

    Cyclops Driving Shelby Mustang GT350R

It is not a surprise that the Cyclops has chosen the Shelby Mustang GT350R because he has always been a fan of the Shelby American. This particular render envisions the GT350R with super speed and lightweight carbon fibre wheels, visor windscreen and automatic headlamps which double up as red optic blasts.

    Jean Grey’s Cute Volvo XC90

    Jean Grey Driving Volvo XC90

Jean Grey is played by one of the Game of Thrones’ cast, Sophie Turner (playing Sansa Stark). We are sure that she will make a fantastic role in these series, too. Her Jean Grey character is envisioned in the renderings driving a cute Volvo XC90, which also has unexpected capabilities. Because of the traumatizing memory of her sister’s death caused by a car accident, she has chosen the safest of brands. In addition, her XC90 also sports bullet proof windows and an inbuilt cerebro in the windshield.

    So, what do you think?

    Bodykit

When equipped with the new kit, the Volvo XC90 looks more independent and expressive. This is because Heico Sportive has integrated its components into the SUV’s appearance perfectly. Precisely, the tuning pack com comprises very cool components like the PU-R-RIM front spoiler with a centric plastic lamella mesh and a rear skirt with PU-R-RIM upper section and mesh-structured PU lower section. At the rear there are also four integrated tailpipe trims.

SEE ALSO: Heico Sportive Teases Custom Volvo XC90

The aforementioned rear skirt can be also fitted with the standard end muffler or an in-house made exhaust system with Selected Sound. The last feature is an option and it offers expressive audio for the engine. Here’s more to that.

    V8 Sound for Volvo XC90

Heico Sportiv Volvo XC90 Rear View

Selected Sound is a product, which improves the new Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) engines’ purr, since Volvo has decided on downsizing strategy. It is actually an in-house developed sport exhaust system, which features integrated subwoofer. The e.motion controller and vehicle-relevant data are forwarded from the CAN-BUS to a sound processor with amplifier.

As a result the tuners achieved V8 sound for the engine. What is even better, the drivers can choose between standard, unobtrusively sporty and pure V8 sound. This fantastic feature will be initially only be available for the VEA T6 engine.

    Wheels

Heico Sportiv Volvo XC90 Side View

The design of the wheels features ten clear-cut, elegantly curved spokes that melt away deep inside the rim. Called VOLUTION X. FORGED, they can be optionally mated to 315/25 R23 ContiSportContact 5P tires.

  • Integrated Booster Cushion celebrates 25 Years since Introduction

Back in 1990 Volvo has introduced the first ever booster cushion for children. Since then it has become something we are used to seeing in cars that parents drive. If you do the math, this means that the first child who used the famous cushion is now 25 years old and probably their children use one of their own.

The integrated booster cushion took child safety to another level and we must admit that this changed things in the automotive industry very much. There is a story behind every discovery and this cushion has one too.

SEE ALSO: Volvo Seems to Have Created the Best Hybrid Engine

The first one was actually a redesigned centre armrest. It was developed to elevate the seating position of the child. The sole purpose was to make perfect use of the 3-point safety belt. This in turn removed the child restraints for older children, thus making their comfort experience better.

Although, the cushion is very user-friendly and usable, it is still rarely for carmakers to offer it.  Another important advantage of the booster cushions is that it was developed as a part of the seat and this allows the safety belt to have more direct contact with child’s body. In addition, it also removes the possibility of ‘slack’ in the belt.

In 2007 Volvo continued with the improvements of child’s safety features and introduced the integrated two-stage booster cushion in 2007. This one allowed for adjustment in the seating position. It also improved the safety further as well as the child’s comfort. The cushion featured two seating positions so it was suitable for larger children.

What is next for Volvo? The goal is no one to be seriously injured or killed while driving a new Volvo car and the end date for this to be achieved is 2020. The longer term aim is to actually build vehicles that will not crash.
