This means that the model will produces 60hp (45kW) more than the current one and of course, Volkswagen designers ensure us that the new Polo R WRC will be lighter and with improved aerodynamic capabilities.

As you might know, Volkswagen has been developing the third generation of Polo R WRC since 2015, when the International Automobile Federation releases new requirements for the highest class of rallying. And by meeting all of them, the development of the third-gen Polo enters a crucial phase.

    What we know so far

The vehicle will be about 50 millimeters wider, 25kgs lighter and far more powerful, compared to predecessor models. Also, the electronic center differential could be used for the power transmission. The most notable visual changes include larger rear wing and broader front spoiler.

2015 ABT Volkswagen Polo Side ViewABT Volkswagen Polo is here to show us the perfect way to celebrate famous tiny car’s 40 years on the automotive market. It is almost unbelievable that so much time has passed since this model was first introduced. At least, this is ABT Sportsline’s opinion on the matter.

    The New Generation

New Generation is actually the name of the performance upgrades, based upon a specially developed control unit and created by the tuner. They allow the Polo V to pump out more than 230 hp (169 kW) from its 1.8 TSI engine. Just for a comparison, the serial number of the drivetrain is 192 hp (141 kW).

Next thing was to substitute the original 13-inch wheels with in-house made 18-inch ER-C fitted with 215/35 R18 tyres. In addition, the Polo was also decorated with a carbon-look rear attachment above the third braking light and the cool rear skirt set, exhaust system with its two mid pipes and bicoloured carbon wrap set.

  • Volkswagen Introduces the Second Gen Polo R WRC

There is a world premiere happing right now and under the spotlights is the next generation Volkswagen Polo R WRC. The company introduced the second gen motorsport car in Autostadt, Wolfsburg. At the same time, the team which will be racing with it has promised to successfully defend its titles in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The car is in top form, both technically and visually. It is based on the first generation Polo R WRC that was introduced in 2013.

The start of the career of the new WRC is on 22nd of January when it will compete in the iconic Rally Monte Carlo. The driving line-up for 2015 consists of the double world champions Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (F/F), Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN), and Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Fløene (N/N).

The new race car has undergone intense development, both on the inside and the outside. Undoubtedly, it looks more dynamic and sporty than before, and it also features many technical innovations under the bonnet. Many details of the package have been further developed and improved. The main focus of this improvement was on efficiency, reliability and performance.

The new design livery is built up from blue and white, and in fact the exterior of the new car is the most striking change for the 2015 season. The white of the first gen model has given way to dark-blue. White and light-blue stripes see the dark-blue front merge into the white rear, which features a towering new rear wing.

Integrated in the new design are VW’s partners in the World Rally Championship. You can see featured on the Polo those companies: Red Bull, lubricant partner Castrol, Volkswagen Financial Services, tyre partner Michelin, chassis and clutch specialist ZF Sachs, and supplier OMP.

More importantly, there have been changes made under the bonnet. For instance, there is new hydraulically activated gearbox, which is operated via a shift paddle on the steering column. This is the biggest innovation. Three quarters of last year’s components were checked and many of them were improved. The aim was to make everything “simpler, lighter, and stronger”.

The greenest petrol engine in the range I the 1.0-litre BlueMotion TSI unit.  It emits only 94 g/km of CO2 and has a fuel economy rating of 68.9 mpg on the combined cycle. The three-cylinder gasoline powerplant is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox.

It is capable of producing 95 horsepower (70 kW) between 5,000 and 5,500 rpm, and a maximum torque of 118 Nm (160 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. Usually great efficiency levels come at the expense of performance. This has nothing to do with the Polo BlueMotion, because it can reach a 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 119 mph.

Volkswagen‘s BlueMotion models are based on the S trim level and add even more equipment including a styling pack. The latter features uniquely shaped front and rear bumpers, radiator grille, side skirts and rear roof spoiler, body coloured door handles, body coloured door mirrors with integrated indicators, front fog lights and static cornering function and unique BlueMotion badging.

There is also an additional kit which adds 15-inch ‘Buenos Aires’ alloys with low rolling resistance tyres, aero body kit, multifunction leather steering wheel, alarm with remote central locking, air conditioning, a front centre armrest, Composition Media and infotainment system, cruise control and Volkswagen’s Driver Alert System.

If one has chosen this version of the Polo, then he or she will also get a Think Blue, Trainer which will give them hint and tips on how to drive in a more economical way.

There is also one more engine option which can power the car. This is the three-cylinder diesel 1.4-litre TDI BlueMotion unit which generates 75 horsepower (55 kW) and returns 91.1 mpg. It can also show-off with emissions of just 82 g/km of CO2.

As a standard, all Polo models come with a colour touchscreen, SD card reader, DAB radio and USB, AUX-in connections and height-adjustable driver’s seat.

  • 2014 Volkswagen Polo Gains New Engines And Technology

2014-Volkswagen-Polo-THUMbThe facelifted 2014 Volkswagen Polo has been unveiled and it includes a range of new technologies and efficient engines, next to the interior and exterior refinements. The new technology equipment will be familiar to this found in the new Golf model, making an emphasis on safety, practicality, comfort and efficiency.

For instance, the new Polos will be equipped as standard with an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System that automatically brakes the car after a collision in order to minimize the kinetic energy and the chance of a second impact. Optional features here include Driver Alert System and Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Automatic Cruise Control.

The Sport Select suspension system is also available as an option. It utilizes electronically controlled dampers to switch between two suspension settings, while the new electro-mechanical steering system enhances efficiency and delivers precise control.

The Polo range will also get Volkswagen’s modular infotainment system, which includes touchscreen system with proximity sensor and a function that reacts to wiping movements by the fingers.

More importantly however, is what lies under the bonnet of the 2014 Polo. There are bein introduced three- and four-cylinder petrol engines: two 1.0-litre MPI units, with 60 hp (44 kW) or 75 hp (55 kW) and two 1.2-litre four-cylinder TSI engines with 90 hp (66 kW) or 110 hp (80 kW).

The 1.4-litre TSI powertrain with cylinder deactivation (ACT) has been refined and now delivers more power – 150 hp (110 kW). The range-topping Polo GTI will be introduced on the market in 2015.

Furthermore, the diesel-powered Polo BlueMotion will be replaced with petrol-powered Polo BlueMotion TSI, which offers 68.9 mpg on the combined cycle and emits just 94 g/km of CO2 thanks to its turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine. The latter generates 90 hp (66 kW). Diesel power can also be ensured by the two new three-cylinder 1.4-litre TDI units with 75 hp (55 kW) and 90 hp (66 kW).

There hasn’t been done much regarding the exterior. The lines on the redesigned front bumper and grille are more precise now and include a chrome line that divides the front fog lights. As an option, Volkswagen is offering LED headlights, while at the rear there are standard new lights and a new bumper. The Polo runs on five new alloy wheel designs that complete its visual stance.

At last, the interior enhancements include wholly redesigned instruments, a new steering wheel and refreshed centre console with new heating and ventilation controls. Full details and specifications about 2014 Volkswagen Polo will be announced in April. Deliveries are expected in late July.

  • B&B Automobiltechnik Beef Up the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street

    B&B-Automobiltechnik-Volkswagen-Polo-R-WRC-Street-shadowB&B-Automobiltechnik-Volkswagen-Polo-R-WRC-Street-medium

The Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street is, and there is no other way to put it, a rally car that can do grocery runs. It is truly an exceptional specimen that is limited to only 2500 units worldwide. The one you see here, however, is different from its brothers and sisters. B&B Automobiltechnik have taken up the job of creating something mad from an already mad thing.

Take its 2.0 TSI engine for example. It normally develops 220 hp which is already well above sensible (for an FWD car). The guys at B&B can buff that output up to 362, depending on which stage you want to draw the line. The first stage is a package of performance tweaks that includes ECU modifications and optimization of the air guides and suction paths. That’s how you get 310 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Stage two adds to that a larger front exhaust pipe and the charging air’s pressure gets increased by 0.25 bar – 326 hp and 457 Nm. To get to 362 hp and 510 Nm, stage three consists of a high-pressure fuel pump, a high-performance charging air cooler and a special oil-cooling system.

The suspension, on the other hand, can be treated with a height, compression and rebound-adjustable B&B coilover kit that’s supposed to be perfectly in tune with the VW Polo R WRC; and a set of 20/30 millimeter springs. Cough up a little bit more money and you can get the optional B&B front and rear axle stabilizers.

The final touches on the Polo R concern the exterior – an aerodynamic package brings the Street closer to its prototype, namely the Volkswagen Polo R WRC rally car. Oh, and don’t forget the wheels. We are talking 8×18 inch alloys with tires of 225/35R16 all around. Delicious.
