  • Bugatti W16 Mistral

Ever since the Veyron was introduced in 2005, the W16 engine has been the beating heart of every Bugatti. The roadgoing car that brings the W16 era to an end was always destined to be special: exclusive, elegant and powerful. It must be the very best of its kind. This is W16 Mistral: the ultimate roadster.

Mate Rimac, Bugatti Rimac CEO, said: “For the final roadgoing appearance of Bugatti’s legendary W16 engine, we knew we had to create a roadster. Well over 40% of all Bugatti vehicles ever created have been open-top in design, establishing a long lineage of performance icons that – to this day – are revered the world over. In the Chiron* era there had, to-date, been no roadster, so the introduction of W16 Mistral continues this legacy, driven by enormous demand from our clients for an all-new way to experience the mighty performance of our iconic engine. The W16 Mistral opens the next chapter in the Bugatti roadster story, inspired by over a century of open top legends.”

For a car as evocative and important as this, great consideration went into the badge it should wear. Far more than simply a development of the Chiron, the roadster needed a name associated with freedom, elegance and speed. Inspiration came from the mistral, a powerful wind that blows from the Rhône River valley, through the chic towns of the Côte d’Azur in southern France and into the Mediterranean. And with the engine so central to this roadster’s character, it stands side-by-side with this mighty wind: W16 Mistral.

Built around the definitive 1,600 PS incarnation of the W16 engine, first used in the Chiron Super Sport 300+*, the W16 Mistral offers performance unlike any open top car that has gone before. In its design and engineering it is completely bespoke; the existing monocoque is not simply cut off above the A-pillars to make way for the new open-top design but has been reengineered and reshaped to create a more rounded silhouette without compromising performance.

Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti Design Director, said: “We know the W16 Mistral will always have significance in the story of Bugatti, marking the last time that perhaps the greatest ever automotive powertrain is used in a roadgoing production car. We, as a design team, felt enormous pressure to deliver styling that immediately conveyed this landmark moment, drawing inspiration from some of the most beautiful roadsters in Bugatti history.”

Their muse would be the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid, a sporting roadster that represents the pinnacle of elegant design. Marked out by its dual aerodynamic headrests, flowing backwards into the bodywork, and a cut down V-shaped windscreen, this particular Grand Raid – on display at the Louwman Museum in Den Haag – is effortlessly sophisticated with an understated sportiness. Finished in a duo-tone black and yellow livery, it would provide the perfect inspiration for this watershed moment in the Bugatti story.

The W16 Mistral debuts in colors inspired by the Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid; a warm black with hints of truffle brown and subtle yellow accents throughout. Not only is it an homage to the iconic coachbuilt body, but also to Ettore Bugatti, who chose the black and yellow combination for many of his personal cars, including his Type 41 Royale. To enthusiasts of the brand, it is a timeless visual pairing.

The W16 Mistral captures the essence of the Grand Raid’s V-shaped windscreen and evolves it into a modern-day work of art. A curving windscreen that seemingly wraps around the A-pillars, blending seamlessly into the side windows and creating a ‘visor’ effect that hints at the motorsport levels of performance W16 Mistral offers. The windscreen itself is a marvel of engineering, curved just enough to create the rounded visor design, without distorting the driver’s vision.

The top line of the windscreen and side windows flows purposefully around the side air intakes. This character line then flows back underneath the side glass to shoot through all the way to the front horseshoe grill creating a new three-dimensional character for the famous Bugatti C-line introduced on Chiron. To keep the body side section slim, but also allow for optimum airflow to the W16, the oil cooler intakes on the side were deliberately separated from the engine air intakes, which now sit on the roof, just behind the occupants. The two-new roof-mounted engine air scoops are a nod to the Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid, as well as the first open top Bugatti of the modern era: the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. Tighter, more powerful and appearing to leap forwards, W16 Mistral exhibits an entirely different character.

Anscheidt continues: “To reflect the W16 Mistral’s new character, we also totally reinvented its frontal appearance, in line with the vertical layout of our unique or few-off models like Divo* and La Voiture Noire*. It’s immediately imbued with a sense of exclusivity; the vertically stacked headlights are completely bespoke and the famous horseshoe grille is reimagined to be much more three-dimensional; both deeper and wider. At the rear, we challenged ourselves to create a striking but also more elegant iteration of Bolide’s* X-theme taillight motif, which forever left its mark on the world of automotive design.”

To design a car like the W16 Mistral requires careful practice of Bugatti’s ‘Form Follows Performance’ design mantra, with each component penned not just to set new standards for beauty, but to also play a role in achieving completely new levels of performance.

Frank Heyl, Bugatti Deputy Design Director, said: “The headlights themselves are intricately shaped, incorporating a four-light signature that subtly nods to the W16 Mistral’s four-wheel-drive and four turbochargers. But their three-dimensional surface also functions as an aerodynamic aid that funnels air through the light and out through the wheel arch to improve aerodynamic drag. The wider horseshoe grille allows the high temperature engine radiator to be fully fed purely from one intake, leaving the two side intakes to focus only on providing air to the intercoolers.

“The X-taillight, meanwhile, serves the function of venting the side oil coolers through ducts connecting the triangular negative space in between the X beams to the side radiators. Therefore, a pressure drop is created between the side intakes and the outlets at the back of the W16 Mistral which helps to manage the mid-temperature cooling circuit of the mighty W16 most effectively.”

But the functional design highlights don’t end there. The new ram induction air scoops behind the headrests were developed from the very beginning with stringent rollover tests in mind, so each is made from a bespoke carbon fiber structure that can support the whole weight of the car in case of a roll over. This new intake layout also enriches the driver’s W16 experience, emphasizing the orchestra between the low down, mighty, rumbling 8-liter displacement intake noise at throttle on and the blow off valve whistle from the four turbo chargers at throttle lift. It is an unmatched aural sensation in the automotive world.

To develop incomparable levels of elegance and excitement, the W16 Mistral features the very latest engineering innovations. Bugatti’s advanced composite materials are paired with cutting-edge titanium and aluminum 3D-printing to ensure striking design, ultimate performance and robust reliability. A detailed analysis of the W16 Mistral’s dynamic stiffness allowed engineers to develop lightweight solutions that would ensure optimum handling and performance under the most extreme conditions.

The W16 Mistral’s interior takes its lead from Chiron, carefully honed to deliver an experience that’s both elegant and luxurious, but also functional enough to ensure all information is easily visible at up to 420 km/h.  The dedication to material quality remains a hallmark of Bugatti design; advanced, lightweight titanium, aluminum components milled from a solid block and soft, blemish-free leathers. But in this swansong to the W16, there are also brand new design flourishes.

There is an intricate woven leather used on newly designed door panels, meticulously tested and produced to Bugatti quality standards with a vision of regular use over a hundred years into the future. And in a nod to the W16 Mistral’s illustrious forebears, the gear shifter – machined from a solid block of aluminum – features a touch of wood and an amber insert with Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous ‘dancing elephant’ sculpture locked within. Iterations of this sculpture adorned the bonnet of the legendary Type 41 Royale; the most luxurious roadster ever created.

Underneath the gargantuan side opening hood of the Royale was an ambitious 12.7-liter straight-eight engine, the likes of which the world had never seen before. And the W16 Mistral’s engine is equally ambitious – the only W16 powertrain in automotive use today.

When Bugatti’s last roadster, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse set a world speed record of 254.04 mph (408.84 km/h) in 2013, its 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 had 1,200 PS. The W16 Mistral has 1,600 PS, making use of the same power unit that propelled the Chiron Super Sport 300+ to a world-record-breaking speed of 304.773 mph in 2019. There can only be one goal in mind: to become the fastest roadster in the world once more.

Mate Rimac, Bugatti Rimac CEO, said: “The union of a roadster format and our W16 powertrain is absolute perfection. With the roof removed, and a pair of large air intakes directly behind your head feeding around 70,000 liters of air through the engine every minute at full bore, driving the W16 Mistral connects you to the intricate workings of this revolutionary powertrain like no other Bugatti to date.

“What we also continue with W16 Mistral is a legacy of Bugatti roadsters, each of them incomparable in design, performance and rarity, which stretches right back to the genesis of Bugatti. The Type 40, Type 41 Royale, Type 55 Roadster, Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid that inspired this car, or even the incredible elegance of the Type 57SC Corsica Roadster – Bugatti has always been associated with the purity of open top driving. So even though the legacy of the roadgoing W16 ends with the W16 Mistral, we continue the legacy of the roadster, first established by Ettore Bugatti more than a century ago.”

Only 99 examples of the W16 Mistral will be built, priced at 5 million euros net, with deliveries due to begin in 2024. The entire production run of W16 Mistral is already sold out.

  • Are $100,000 USD Bugatti Veyron Replicas Worth it? See here!

2016 Bugatti Veyron ReplicaAs we all know, Bugatti has been making some of the fines vehicles and supercars for a long time. And with the Veyron lineup that combines incredible luxury and superior performance, the brand showed one more time how to make a wonderful hi-end car.  In fact, the Veyron lineup is one of brand’s super expensive and can reach a price of 2 million dollars. Some exclusive and limited models can even reach up a price of 3 million. Discouraging, right?

But what if I told you that there are Veyrons for like $125,000 USD?

Okay, there are not original ones, but are sort of perfect replica, shown in eBay. There are some traders that offer neat examples with traditional 6-cylinder unit from Potiac Fiero or an MR2. And all this with incredible body work that is almost unrecognizable, compared to an original model. So, the questions remain: Is this possible and if yes, is it worth the money?!

    2016 Bugatti Veyron Replica

Well, we have already answered the first question: yes, it is possible. But how good is a 125,000 replica? In our opinion, this is a rather feasible option, considered that the housing for headlights is about $100,000 with a real Veyron. And with all these not-that-high-quality components, taken from other vehicles, we consider it as a billionaire-wannabe vehicle, but hey, who cares?! you save about 850,000USD in the best case.  So, at the end we believe that this is a good option for all of these who want to impress friends, beautiful ladies at the bar, or just to catch the eye of random citizen across the city roads.

  • Bugatti Introduces Veyron 16.4 Super Sport World Record Edition

Qatar Motor Show starts on 6th of February and this is where Bugatti will bring world’s fastest production car: Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. Officially confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records, the 1,200 hp bolide set the world speed record for production cars in 2010 with an average maximum speed of 431.072 km/h. And interestingly enough, this record can’t still be beaten.

For the first time Bugatti will display the vehicle in its original configuration as a World Record Edition. The original Veyron 16.4 Super Sport was introduced in 2010 and it has been sold out for quite some time.

To remind you, the Super Sport’s record-setting run took place on 26 June 2010 at the Volkswagen grounds in Germany. The official pilot of the company was Pierre-Henri Raphanel. And in accordance with the Guinness rules, Raphanel had to drive the Super Sport down the long straight twice, once in each direction. Guinness then estimated the average from the maximum speed attained on each run, and it was 431.072 km/h.

In terms of technical data the car is pretty impressive. It is driven by the 8-litre W16 engine that can produce 1,200 hp (882 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,500 Nm (1107 lb-ft). This translates to a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.5 seconds.

The exterior shell of the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is made completely of carbon-fibre. The aerodynamically modified body improves the efficiency and provides better balance. The monocoque is also full-carbon and it guarantees great high torsional rigidity with maximum safety.

The vehicle has a long, low silhouette, which further improves aerodynamics. Instead of the usual air scoops over the engine, a pair of NACA ducts set in the roof delivers air to the powerplant. The front of this Bugatti is characterised by larger air inlets, while the back – by a double diffuser and centrally located exhaust system.

2015 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport World Record Edition can be identified by its two-tone finish that includes black carbon and orange color.

  • Ettore Bugatti Legend Makes European Premiere

Ettore-Bugatti-Veyron-THUMBEttore Bugatti, the last legend was revealed in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Now, the unique model is making European premiere in Paris. This is the sixth and final model of its Edition „Les Légendes de Bugatti”. It is dedicated to Ettore Bugatti, who was the founder and patron of the brand. What is more, at the event, the luxury company is also celebrating the successful completion of its Legends Edition.

From the six Legends, Bugatti will build only three vehicles per model. This makes 18 vehicles in total, and they have been sold out even before the final model was unveiled. With these editions, Bugatti honors important personalities and cars in its company history.

Last year, the super sports car manufacturer presented the Legends model “Jean-Pierre Wimille” in California, then “Jean Bugatti” was revealed at the IAA in Frankfurt, while the “Meo Costantini” was shown at the Dubai Motorshow. This year, the company revealed the “Rembrandt Bugatti” at the Automobile Salon in Geneva and “Black Bess” at Auto China in Peking.

Ettore Bugatti is based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, just like the other Legends. The sports car produces powerful 1200 horsepower (882 kW) from its 8-liter W16 engine, which in addition generates 1500 Nm (1106 lb.-ft.) of torque at 3000-5000 rpm. This car needs only 2.6 seconds to cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) on its way to a top speed of 408.84 km/h (254 mph). These numbers make it world’s fastest production roadster ever built.

This is also one of the most expensive production super sports cars. Veyron is limited to 450 units in total, from which 300 are coupes and they are already sold out, and 150 roadsters. After all Veyrons have been built, Bugatti will begin a new chapter in its history of success.

  • New Bugatti may be too fast to test

    New-Bugatti-car_thumbNew-Bugatti-car_651

Bugatti’s new performance car and heir to the Bugatti Veyron has been said to be too fast to successfully test in real life.

The still unnamed model will appear in 2016 and will likely have a top speed of 286 mph (460 km/h) with a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of just 2.3 seconds if correct computer simulations are to be trusted. The car will be based on a hybrid powertrain and will have the same quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine that you can find in the Veyron. The engine is capable of generating about 1500 bhp (1521 horsepower).

This information comes in excess of what we currently have about the Bugatti Veyron, whose top speed of 268 mph (431 km/h) is already a challenge to prove due to limitations of its Michelin road tires. The problem with tires is that if technology has not advanced that far when the new car appears, the tires used may disintegrate well before reaching the vehicle top speed.

Autocar road test editor Matt Prior said: “Even though aerodynamic drag increases at the square of speed, if you up the power enough, it’s entirely feasible that Bugatti could find another 18mph (29 km/h) for the taking in the Veyron’s successor. But we’re well into the realms of academia now. Making a road car that can do 286 mph (460 km/h) is one thing; making a road car do it on road tires is rather more difficult.”

The new vehicle will have a carbon monocoque, like its predecessor and will have seats for two in a highly luxurious cabin that includes all latest connectivity technologies. The heavily revised powertrain receives electric assistance, while drive is channeled to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and multi-plate-clutch four-wheel drive system.

The upcoming vehicle by Bugatti will be limited; no more than 450 units will be produced.

  • Bugatti Veyron Successor To Produce 1500 Hybrid Horsepower

bugatti-veyron-grand-sport-vitesse-black-bess-THUMBIt is a well known fact that Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse is producing 1200 horsepower (882 kW). The French company is obviously not satisfied with this number, because it plans to build a model that will be a hybrid, and note – it will deliver around 1500 hp (1103 kW)! This amount of power will come through a 16-cylinder engine. Veyron’s two-door successor will be developed in 2015 and Bugatti disclosed that it plans to build around 450 examples from it. Most likely there will be 300 coupes and 150 roadsters. It is no surprise that the next Bugatti will be a hybrid. In fact, many other supersports car manufacturers like Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche have already gone through this step. So the “hybrid direction” seems like a logical next step for the brand. The 1500 hp won’t be the only advantage of the car. Lightweight construction is expected to be a key and logical feature as well.Other detail about the upcoming super car is that it will beat the 431 kilometres (268 miles) top speed of Veyron Super Sport. If you remember well, in February Veyron lost the title of the world’s fastest production car to the Hennessey Venom GT.Bugatti will end an era because it has scheduled to finish Veyron’s production within the next year. There are only around 20 build slots left for the 450-car run of the iconic vehicle, which are planned for the sixth and final Legend special edition.

  • Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Black Bess

Bugatti has unveiled another special edition of Veyron. Actually, this is the fifth edition part of Bugatti’s “Legends” series. It is based on the super powerful Grand Sport Vitesse and comes with a number of unique styling upgrades.

2014 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Black Bess is paying tribute to the Type 18 “Black Bess”, which the manufacturer describes as one of the first street-legal super sports cars. The Type 18 “Black Bess” was powered by a 5.0 liter four-cylinder engine with 100HP (73 kW) and achieved a top speed of 161 km/h (100 mph), which was incredible considering the year – 1913.

To be sensational nowadays, you need a really spectacular engine and power like twelve times more than 1913.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse is powered by an 8.0 liter W16 quad-turbo engin – 1200HP (883 kW) and 1500Nm (1106 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is connected to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.1 seconds, 0-300 km/h in 16 seconds. The top speed is 410 km/h (254 mph).  ¼ mile is covered in 10.0 seconds flat and 1 mile in just 25.0 seconds. Other interesting disciplines like 0-100-0 km/h take 5.9 seconds and 0-200-0 take 12.9 seconds. The interesting 0-300-0, which is brutal for the brakes take 23.9 seconds.

Bugatti will exhibit the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Black Bess at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show starting on April 20th.

  • BugattiPassion Unveils First Image Of Next Legend Edition Veyron

Bugatti-Elizabeth-Junek-THUMBYesterday, Bugatti announced that the Rembrandt Bugatti Veyron Legend Edition has already been sold after its successful premiere at the Geneva Motor Show last week. Today we found a reportedly official render of the next Legend in Brand’s exclusive line-up.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Elizabeth Junek is the fifth model of the special edition series and will have its reveal later this year. In fact, we are actually expecting to see it debuting at the Beijing Auto Show.

Similarly to all other Legends, this new Bugatti will be based on the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, and its production will be limited up to three units. Another thing in common is also the price of the supercar, which will be around 2 million Euros. Of course, we can also expect that the roadster will be quipped with the same 8 litre W16 engine. The unit produces the unparalleled 1,200 hp (882 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1107 lb-ft) of torque.

The model has been dedicated to the prestigious Czech female racer Elizabeth Junek which had great achievements in the first half of the last century. As visible on the render, this Veyron will sport a two-tone black and yellow exterior. This is not occasional, but is a reference to the colors utilized by Junek on her race cars.

We can see also the same two-tome combination on the wheels. Slightly seeable is the interior, which is wrapped in brown leather upholstery, and will probably also include the name of the racer on the door-sills and headrests.

  • Rembrandt Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Sold Out!

Rembrandt-Bugatti-Veyron-Grand-Sport-Vitesse-THUMBBugatti achieved unsurpassed success at the Geneva Motor Show and has disclosed that this is due to the fact that all three cars of the “Rembrandt Bugatti” Legend are already sold out. The price of this limited-edition Vitesse is 2.18 million Euros.

“Rembrandt Bugatti” is the fourth model of the six-part edition “Les Légendes de Bugatti” or “Bugatti Legends”. The bran has designed and created them with the aim to pay homage to the important personalities from its company history. All six models are to be based on the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse and are strictly limited to three vehicles. The next legend will be presented at Auto China in one month.

Rembrandt Bugatti was brother of company founder Ettore and one of the most important sculptors. He became famous with a sculpture of a dancing elephant, which can be seen on the radiator of the Bugatti Type 41 Royale and which later became the brand’s symbol.

Rembrandt Bugatti is equipped with 8 litre W16 engine which achieves an unparalleled torque of 1,500 Nm (1107 lb-ft) and 1,200 hp (882 kW) at 3,000–5,000 rpm. It can effortlessly accelerate from 0–100 km in only 2.6 seconds on its way to a maximum speed of 408.84 km/h with the roof down. This makes the Vitesse the fastest production roadster ever built.

The body of this supersports car was designed in the “horizontal split”, and is largely composed of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon. The lower half of the vehicle is painted in an elegant light brown – “Noix”. The famous Bugatti horseshoe gleams in platinum from the front grille, with platinum also ringing the EB logo at the rear.

The Legend runs on wheels in dark “Firefinch” and light “Noix” browns. In reference to the artist and Legends car’s namesake, Rembrandt Bugatti’s signature has been lasered onto the petrol and oil cap.

Inside, the same elegant and harmonious treatment is applied. This Vitesse is entirely upholstered with leather in light brown “Cognac”. The rear centre box between the seats has a new provocative design. It sports Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous elephant sculpture. The elephant was cast in bronze and worked as an insert into the cover.

The latter is made of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon. The door trim features braided leather in the colours of “Cognac” and “Coffee”. Platinum is also to be found in the interior onto the EB logo on the steering wheel.

The insert of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon on the extended centre console with the lettering “Les Légendes de Bugatti” and Rembrandt Bugatti’s elephant, the door sill plates displaying the sculptor’s portrait and signature are also unique features for this Bugatti Legend.

  • Bugatti Pays Tribute To Veyron

Bugatti-Veyron-EB-THUMBBugatti is celebrating the Veyron at this year’s Salon Rétromobile in Paris. There the visitors will be delighted to see the astonishing Bugatti EB 18/4 Veyron Retromobil design study. The study was shown for the first time at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999 and since then it hasn’t appear.

As a matter of fact, the supersports car EB 18/4 Veyron marked the start of the production of the fastest car in the world the Veyron 16.4. For the creation of the model Bugatti took as an inspiration the excellent accomplishments in motorsport racing it has achieved. Of course, this can be traced in the design and form of the vehicle, as well as its interior and name.

In 2005 the world saw the launch of Bugatti Veyron 16.4 which awed the world with its 1001 horsepower (736 kW). Five years later Veyron 16.4 Super Sport appeared on the automotive scene, offering a top speed of 431.072 km/h. This top speed still holds the world speed record. The production of both models was limited to a mere 300 units and all have been sold out since 2011.

The current portfolio of the brand includes the roadster Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, with 1001 hp, and the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse that produces even more power – 1200 hp (882 kW). The latter model holds the title of world’s fastest series production covertible.

The roadsters are also with limited run of 150 units and so far Bugatti has been sold two thirds of them. This means that there are only circa 40 vehicles still available.
