  • Toyota showcases brand’s latest ambitions and plans for 2017 season year

2017 Toyota Yaris HybridActually, Toyota team has taken the upcoming 2017 season rather seriously. And this is why it does not stop revealing new models that will soon hit the market and the roads. One such model is the fresh new C-HR crossover, strictly followed up by GT86, Auris Verso and Aygo. In fact, Toyota team hasn’t forgotten even the Avensis lineup. Nice.

So, what should we expect from the famous manufacturer? As it comes to the Yaris lineup, Toyota showcases a new body color, indeed the Tokyo Red, and some neat styling changes. These include new black finish for the roof, front pillars, upper front wing sections and door mirrors. Not bad, but we kind of expected more. Hopefully, all these styling changes are the pre-heater before the main action.

  • 2012 Toyota Avensis T Spirit Tourer D4-D – 1456 km on a single tank of fuel

Joe Clifford and Andrew Biddle managed to go 1456 km (905 miles) on a single tank of fuel in a brand new Toyota Avensis T-Spirit Tourer D4-D. This is the distance from one end of Britain to the other. This was a long distance economy challenge taken up by two journalists for Banzai magazine.

The superb efficiency of the engine and 6-speed manual transmission, and the pair’s eco-conscious driving style helped the Avensis to achieve whopping 71.5 mpg, which is just 3.95 litres per 100 km. This is just a shade less than the car’s official extra urban consumption figure.

The journey included a stop-off at Toyota’s Burnaston plant – home of the Avensis – where they saw first hand the attention to quality and the commitment to the environment throughout the manufacturing process.

At the beginning, the two drivers filled the Avensis’s 60 litre tank and programmed their route on the car’s Touch & Go navigation system. The on-board computer calculated a driving range of just 580 miles, but that limit was comprehensively smashed: the car covered more than 170 miles on the last bar of the fuel gauge alone, in spite of having to tackle mountain climbs, pouring rain and high winds.

“The Toyota shrugged off the mileage with ease and showed such frugality for fuel that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it highly. That it is also comfortable, roomy, tax-friendly for business users, bursting with kit and beautifully built are simply bonuses.”, said Joe Clifford.

  • Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D TR: Pence-per-mile – 49.64p

2012 Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D offers unique pence-per-mile performance of just 49.64 pence or £29 781 for 3 YEARS / 60 000 MILES. The family vehicle also has low emission, good dynamic performance, extra equipment and last, but not least sharp new styling.

The new D-4D engine delivers the same amount of power – 124bhp (92 kW), but it has improved combined cycle fuel economy by 15% and a 14% reduction has been achieved in CO2 emissions. In figures this means 61.4 mpg and 119 g/km.

The revision includes a new turbocharger with lower friction bearings and an electric actuator. The torque characteristics of each gear have also been adjusted and as a result, drivers enjoy greater torque at low speeds.

Improvements in engine cooling and lubrication and the use of low rolling resistance tyres have helped cut the CO2 exhaust emissions, along with new glow plug control, changes to the diesel particulate filter and a new piston bowl shape that allows for improved combustion performance.

The new 2012 Avensis benefits from changes to the front and rear suspension. Adjustments have been made to the aerodynamics and strategic use of extra insulation material has further reduced NVH levels in the cabin.

Particular attention has been paid to the electric power steering, which adopts a quicker gear ratio, giving more direct performance, making the car more agile and manoeuvrable.

The focus on comfort extends to changing the design of the front seats to offer better lateral support.

One of the most important things is the cost of ownership and the new Avensis 2.0 D-4D TR offers best-in-class pence-per-mile performance. This combines with the new model’s higher equipment specification to make it a very attractive proposition for business customers, delivering significant savings compared to rival models in terms of both tax bills and the features you get for your money.

2012 Avensis comes with SAT NAV as standard, advanced connectivity and information features included in the Toyota Touch & Go system.

Overall, the new Avensis 2.0 D-4D cuts the cost-of-ownership bill by £2 000 compared to the previous model thanks to the improved residual values, fuel economy, CO2 emissions and service, maintenance and repair costs over three years/60 000 miles.
