  • Toyota shows revisited Corolla range and 86 sports car for the first time

    Toyota 86 MY2017

So these are the restyled 2017 Corolla iM hatch and 86 sports car. Toyota also made revisions on the Corolla lineup, but there are no pictures to show. Anyway, you can see the similarity between the Scion FR-S and the 86 and this is because the recently “closed” Scion brand, has entirely transitioned to the Toyota. If this is nothing new to you, then you’ll see that the cars are identical. Well, almost.

    2017 Toyota 86

There are some additions to the 2017 model year car, like the more aggressive styling, wider stance and the new LEDs and DRLs at the front. The turn signals, fog lamp bezel and bumpers as well as LED tail lights have been also revised. New alloys are always mandatory for facelifts: here we see wheels with new twisted spoke design and 86 logos.

The big change throughout the interior is the new “Granlux” material used on the instrument panel surround and door trims. New materials wrap the seats and steering wheel, which is contrasted silver stitching.

Toyota has just announced that it has made significant changes to the model, by applying the feedback from extensive racetrack experience. And this includes the data obtained from class victories at the famous 24 Hours of Nürburgring. To say it otherwise, the 86 facelift is the result of a lot of racing enjoinment for the testers, which is eventually going to bring about some pleasure to the regular owner, too.

It is now 207 hp (152 kW) and 212Nm (156 lb-ft). By the way, the maximum torque of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine can be generated over a 200rpm wider range of engine speeds, precisely – from 6400 to 6800rpm. In addition, the torque curve is also better at low rpms.

Aerodynamics wise, they were actually a priority for the freshened exterior. They not only contribute to enhanced road holding, but also to better turning performance. To go into details, the 86 has a lower front, which features nose fins, foglamp bezel fins and small canards. Wing-like projections beneath the wider front grille and the LED headlamps, round out the transformation up front.

“We race. We learn. You win” is the motto of the 86 facelift development.

When speaking of better performance, one always thinks of wheels and tyres. In this case, Toyota 86 rides on brand new 17-inch alloys with twisted spokes, machine-cut highlights and gun-metal paint. Moving to the rear, it now comes with an wing-type spoiler, widened bumper with trapezoidal shape and combination of LED taillights.

    2016 Toyota 86 Facelift interior

Toyota wouldn’t go without touching the interior a little bit. On the inside, the 86 is equipped with sportier steering wheel with 362mm diameter. This detail is actually hinting to the fact that it is the smallest ever used in a Toyota. Moreover, it has a cross-sectional shape, which contributes for an optimal grip, maneuverability and comfort.

On the revised tachometer can be viewed the 7,000rpm at the very top; and other driver aids include 4.2-inch thin-film transistor display showing important information, G-force meter and power and torque curves. At last, for those looking for a little bit of luxury in their sports car, Toyota is offering the optional black Grand Luxe high-quality suede-like material for the instrument panel and door trim.

Toyota has made subtle refinements to the widely praised suspension of the sports car. The more rigid suspension setup of these models will contribute for better handling response and steering feel. • Romeo Ferraris Performance Boost For Toyota GT86

Romeo-Ferraris-Toyota-GT86-shadowRomeo-Ferraris-Toyota-GT86-mediumAlright, picture the following: a couple of years ago you bought a Toyota GT86. At the time it was an affordable RWD car with the right weight distribution and enough power to go sideways. An obvious choice for a gearhead, because that’s essentially the formula reserved for supercars. But now you find yourself in the position of wanting more. Not much more though. Just that extra bit of something to spice things up.

How about a tune up then? Let’s see. Oh, Romeo Ferraris here might have what you are looking for! The Toyota GT86 before you bares a performance kit consisting of a supercharger and an intercooler. After strapping them onto the flat-four Toyota engine, the guys from Romeo Ferraris played around with the ECU and eventually the GT86 yielded 258 hp and more than 260 N/m of torque. That’s a surplus of almost 80 hp and 60 Nm.

There’s not much else out of order with it. Have to keep that low center of gravity in check!

Here’s a video of the finished product guzzling down petrol on a dyno. See if you can detect a distinctiveness of the soundtrack.
