  • Skoda MissionL Concept Targets Qatar Motor Show

SKODA-MissionL-concept-thumgLast year, Skoda have delivered 879,200 vehicles to budget oriented, sensible customers. That’s 15% more in comparison with 2010 sales. Today Skoda are planing to keep up that pace by expanding to the East. The Qatar Motor Show will see the Skoda MissionL concept for the first time outside European land.

Just for the record, when we say concept we do actually mean an almost-ready-production-car. The MissionL goes on sale in late 2012 and it is designed to fill in the gap between the Fabia and Octavia (a sort of a small family saloon segment). Skoda say that the design features on the MissionL act as a definitive of the company’s future approach on aesthetics. For starters, this concept is among the first proud wearers of the new Skoda badge. The  outside lines of the saloon are more simple yet sharper which gives an overall athletic feel. The grille is framed in chrome while consisting of vertical plate fins that attribute to the depth of the whole front end. Daytime running lights and blinkers are mere luminescent bands positioned at the edges of the main headlights as fog lights frame the lower grille. The party piece however, is the tinted yet transparent glass roof that spans over the whole cabin. The interior is a feast of sensibility, neatness and efficiency seasoned with a bit of luxury thanks to the bichrome wheel, control panel and seat covers.

Skoda has already started its offense on the market with the launch of the Citigo in the Czech Republic and the introduction of the Rapid in India and feedback seems positive. The company’s plan within the near 5 years is to get those annual sales up to 1,5 million. In addition to the MissionL, ŠKODA is displaying Fabia, Octavia, Yeti and Superb at the Qatar Motor Show, all models are available in the local market.

  • Skoda VisionD Concept

VisionD Concept is one of the latest Skoda projects. The car was revealed at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show earlier this year.

Skoda VisionD Concept is showing how a future mid-size hatchback will look like.

“The car has a strong, sporty look which conveys a beautiful simplicity and a youthful and contemporary appearance.”, stated the manufacturer.

Still, Skoda did not release any additional details regarding the VisionD Concept, but the vehicle looks a lot like the next generation Octavia, which is expected to hit the market in the beginning of 2013.

Skoda’s VisionD has modern styling and its long wheelbase and short overhangs promise lots of interior space and good handling. Probably, a Greenline version will be also available with extremely fuel efficient diesel engines.

Stay tuned for more information about the interesting VisionD Concept.

  • Skoda Citigo – 5 stars from Euro NCAP

The highest possible ratings in the class of city cars go for the new Citigo from ŠKODA. This automobile is with five Euro NCAP stars and was eagerly anticipated. And the effect is that the ŠKODA Citigo has received the highest number of points in its class, in tests by independent crash-test experts at Euro NCAP. Firstly Euro NCAP assessors affirmed that the overall safety packages, including its passenger, infant and pedestrian protection are exceptional. Without a doubt, ŠKODA counts on the affordable and yet uncompromising safety.

Furthermore praises for the Citigo go for the levels of passenger protection it offers. For example Euro NCAP’s assessment involves front and side collisions plus a pole test.

This car is all about safety: Next go the admirations for the infant safety. Here ŠKODA again has achieved excellent results. And to be more precise – the car received full marks in tests simulating the protection of a three-year-old child.

Moreover Euro NCAP testers praised the inclusion of head-thorax airbags as standard equipment across the Citigo range, and belt-fastening reminders on all seats.

Last but not least is to be mentioned that the ŠKODA Citigo is the first car in the city car segment (together with the Volkswagen up! and SEAT Mii) that has a low-speed, active emergency braking assistant (which was called City Safe Drive). This innovative technology helps during urban driving and operates automatically at speeds lower than 30km/h (18mph).  Depending on speed and level of traffic, the system can mitigate the affects of a crash or prevent it altogether.

More details of the ŠKODA Citigo’s crash-test result are available on the Euro NCAP website at www.euroncap.com.

  • Skoda MissionL Concept

SKODA will present a world-premier design concept called MissionL at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show. Close to the final production-ready design, this concept car reveals the look of SKODA’s upcoming model line that is to become symbolic of the Czech carmaker’s planned model offensive.

The new compact five-door vehicle will be launched in Europe, Russia and China. In line with the brand’s internationalisation principles, this compact ‘liftback’ will feature specific modifications in each of these regions. In addition, the Indian market will have its own version, a compact sedan. These steps are in line with the goals of SKODA’s 2018 growth strategy that was set last year in which the brand intends to increase its sales to 1.5 million vehicles by 2018.

“Revealing the look of our new compact model, the MissionL shows exactly the direction our brand is going to take,” says SKODA Board Chairman Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that SKODA is going full steam ahead now. We are going to present a new vehicle every six months over the next two or three years.”

In line with its 2018 growth strategy, the brand is gearing up, investing heavily in new models, markets and production capacities. Starting in mid 2013, the Yeti will be launched in the Chinese market and will be produced locally. Furthermore, SKODA, in cooperation with Shanghai Volkswagen, will produce a new compact model for this market from 2013, increasing the number of models produced in China to five.

The brand will also expand production in Russia through the Volkswagen Group’s partnership with the Russian-based car manufacturer GAZ Group. The GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod will start producing the Yeti in the fourth quarter of 2012. In India, SKODA will start production of a brand new compact sedan this year. The brand also remains focused on its traditional markets – Europe and the Czech Republic, its home market. Beside the Fabia and Octavia, SKODA’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav will produce a third model; the brand is already increasing the capacity of its production lines. Starting in late 2012, SKODA will also manufacture the automatic twin-clutch gearbox DQ200 in its plant in Vrchlabí.
