  • Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2

Chevrolet’s ZR2 emblem is closely related to off-road proficiency and now, the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2, the heavyweight all-terrain vehicle, joins the lineup. In addition, the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 Bison, the specialty Chevy trucks vehicle, is unveiled, adding to the brand’s off-road credentials.

Chevrolet has announced the release of three premium off-road performance pickup trucks, including the Colorado ZR2, Silverado 1500 ZR2, and the first-ever Silverado HD ZR2, for those who are ready to take on the trails.

The 2024 Silverado HD lineup has been updated with the inclusion of the HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison, both of which provide proven racing technology and improved off-road capacity. The unique ZR2 Bison offers specialized equipment from American Expedition Vehicles, a premium off-road aftermarket manufacturer, for those who want to experience the ultimate in off-road ability during their expeditions.

“The all-new Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison provide the off-road performance our customers have come to expect from a ZR2, with the towing and payload capabilities our HD customers demand,” said Michael MacPhee, director of Chevrolet Trucks Marketing. “They also expand the Silverado HD lineup, offering more choices for customers to find the perfect truck for work and off-road adventure.”

The 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison models are exclusively available in the 2500 Crew Cab setup, featuring the standard 6.6L gasoline engine or optional 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel. They utilize Chevrolet’s successful off-road racing experience, incorporating a specific set of improvements based on proven off-road capabilities. The Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison are equipped to handle a variety of tasks, including trail crawling, challenging terrain navigation, and weekend adventure toy towing, without sacrificing on-road comfort or heavy-duty truck functionality. The Silverado HD ZR2 has a maximum payload of 3,397 pounds (gas engine), while the maximum trailering rating is an impressive 18,500 pounds with the available Duramax Turbo-Diesel, ensuring that adventurers do not have to leave any part of their journey behind.

“The Silverado HD ZR2 is for those who want it all: For when you need to haul equipment to the jobsite during the week, then the camper and family off the beaten path on the weekend,” said Sahar Nasif, program engineering manager, Silverado HD ZR2. “It’s for those who want their tow rig to be just as cool as the toys it’s hauling.”

The Silverado HD ZR2 has a distinct appearance, featuring the same front grille as the ZR2 family of trucks, which represents the expressive styling that the ZR2 family values. The truck also has unique wheel opening moldings with integrated mud guards, ZR2 badging on the grille bar, and a higher stance, which further enhance its appearance. Additionally, both the HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison models feature the “flow-tie” emblem. Compared to other Silverado HD 4WD models, the HD ZR2’s suspension is raised approximately 1.5 inches (38 mm), both front and rear.

Its off-road-capable features and content also include:

    • Specific front upper and lower control arms and specific steering knuckles
    • Multimatic DSSV Dampers
    • Larger steel transfer case skid plate and front aluminum skid plate
    • Rear e-locker
    • 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires mounted on 18 x 9-inch aluminum wheels.

The HD ZR2 comes with a new Off-Road Mode that utilizes insights from the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado 1500 ZR2. This mode modifies different vehicle settings, including anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control, to improve their performance when driving off-road. It also adjusts throttle response and transmission shifts, while the locking rear axle doesn’t have a speed limit.

The collaboration between HD ZR2 Bison and AEV has set a new standard for off-road performance.

Chevrolet collaborated with AEV to create the HD ZR2 Bison, a factory package that targets the most enthusiastic off-roaders. The package expands on the HD ZR2’s existing features, incorporating the following enhancements:

    • Exclusive gloss black, 18-inch AEV wheels
    • Distinctive cut high-approach, stamped-steel front bumper with integrated recovery points and winch provisions
    • Unique stamped-steel cut rear bumper with recovery points
    • Tough, stamped steel underbody skid plates for the front of the vehicle, steering rack, exhaust and transfer case

The Bison models have distinctive badges and AEV logo on the front-seat head restraints.

Furthermore, the HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison also come with practical features that are available in the entire Silverado HD lineup. These features include the DuraBed cargo box that maximizes cargo capacity, the corner step rear bumper, BedSteps, power tailgate, a 120-volt power outlet, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate and more.

    IN FOCUS

The Multimatic spool-valve dampers used in the Silverado HD ZR2 are designed to provide optimal off-road capability while maintaining on-road comfort. These dampers were first used on the Colorado ZR2 racing program and were tested with Chad Hall Racing in the Best in The Desert off-road racing series. Compared to conventional shim-type dampers, the unique spool-valve design has three separate spools and offers unlimited tuning variability to control damping, resulting in more precise damping performance for greater control on and off the road.

The interior has been redesigned to have a ZR2 style.

The HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison come with the newly redesigned interior of the 2024 Silverado HD lineup. It’s built for a blend of premium materials, excellent work-ready functionality, and next-level technology integration. The cabin offers features that HD truck buyers expect with an emphasis on off-road prowess, just like the Silverado 1500 ZR2.

The Jet Black and Graystone leather-appointed surfaces of the interior complement its dark trim accents. The materials used in the interior are also easy to clean after a day of off-road driving.

The instrument panel of the HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison boasts a best-in-class 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and an expansive 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center. They serve as the driver’s command center and are canted towards the driver, enhancing the command center perspective. Smart off-road technology like the available 15-inch Head-Up Display with an off-road inclinometer and HD Surround Vision is also available.

The HD ZR2’s interior space is efficiently designed with a redesigned wireless phone charger area and a flow-under console that offers the spaciousness of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console.

    Coming in Q3 2023

The manufacturing of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison will commence later this summer at the Flint Assembly plant in Michigan10. The pricing details will be revealed closer to the start of production.

  • Chevrolet Silverado HD

Chevrolet brings everything heavy-duty truck customers want and need with the 2024 Silverado HD — with no compromises in capability and comfort. The 2024 Silverado HD arrives with powertrain upgrades, a more commanding presence paired with an overhauled interior, enhancements to its revolutionary trailering technology, and infotainment and active safety technology2 upgrades.

“We’ve designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ favored choice for true truck capability,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of the design, strength and confidence that makes tackling the hard jobs, including trailering, easier and more convenient than ever.”

The lineup includes 2500HD and 3500HD models in Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations. Dual-rear-wheel models are available on 3500HD and they support the lineup’s highest trailering capacity: 36,000 pounds3. The 2024 Silverado HD is available in Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. ZR2 will join the HD trim lineup later in the model year for the first time.

Allison 10-speed transmission enhances gas-engine trailering capability

For the first time, the proven Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard equipment for both the Silverado HD’s powertrains: the standard 6.6L V-8 gas engine and the available Duramax turbo-diesel. It replaces the gas engine’s previous six-speed automatic, offering smaller “steps” between the gears, which enables the 6.6L gas engine to hold closer to its peak power for longer periods.

The improvements translate to a more confident feeling of on-demand power, regardless of whether the truck is towing a trailer. When it comes time to tow, the 10-speed configuration helps channel every single pound-foot of torque to the tires in every gear. In turn, the 2024 Silverado HD’s Gross Combined Weight Rating with the 6.6L gas engine increases to 26,000 pounds7, up from 24,000 pounds previously.

Additionally, the Allison transmission’s 10-speed design optimizes grade braking with the gas engine, with the closer gear ratios enabling greater engine-braking control. That, in addition to precise tuning for smooth shifts and quicker downshifts, complements the enhanced feeling of on-demand power, greater control, precision and refinement.

More power, more torque and greater refinement for the Duramax turbo-diesel

Silverado engineers continue to further push the renowned Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8 engine, and with the 2024 Silverado HD, they’ve issued their latest upgrades.

Overall, the horsepower and torque numbers increase to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, per SAE J1349. Additional changes and upgrades were designed to produce a more efficient combustion, which enhances overall performance. Further, engineers enhanced low-end torque production by up to 25% for improved performance at low speeds or climbing grades, and particularly when trailering.

    Commanding presence

The 2024 Silverado HD has a commanding presence, driven by a freshened front-end appearance that features a new fascia, new headlights, new grille and more. The truck’s chiseled appearance combines with timeless design that not only looks, but is, prepared for anything.

C-shaped LED graphic lamps frame the new fascia, inspired by the signature design of the Silverado 1500, while bold, new headlights on LTZ, ZR2 and High Country models feature dual-projector technology. The main and high beams of these new lights are now split into dual functions, and as owners approach or depart their 2024 Silverado HD, an animated lighting sequence welcomes or bids them farewell from the truck.

Additional exterior updates include standard tow hooks, and “CHEVROLET” lettering featured on the hood scoop. Six new exterior colors have been added as well: Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic (late availability) and Meteorite Metallic (late availability).

Atop numerous updates, Silverado HD’s design continues to boast the breakthrough features and technologies that contribute to its true truck capability. They include the Durabed cargo box that optimizes every square inch for maximum cargo capability — including up to 83.5 cubic feet with the long box — as well as the CornerStep rear bumper, BedSteps, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate, available 120-volt power outlet, available power tailgate and more.

The lineup also retains the popular Z71 Sport Edition, Z71 Chrome Sport Edition and Midnight Special Edition appearance packages, as well as the Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition.

New wheel and tire options for the Silverado HD include:

    • 20-inch bright chrome wheels available on LTZ
    • 18-inch polished aluminum dually wheel and all-terrain tires optional on 3500HD LTZ and standard on 3500HD High Country
    • 20-inch off-road tires available on Z71 Sport Edition, Midnight Special Edition, Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition and Z71 Off-Road package

    Redesigned, more refined interior

In addition to the exterior styling updates, all models receive a new interior designed for greater work-ready functionality and next-level technology integration.

LT, LTZ and High Country models introduce a dramatically redesigned passenger space centered around an all-new instrument panel that houses an expansive infotainment screen: a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment1 display. A 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center complements the new infotainment display. The infotainment screen and other controls are also canted toward the driver, giving the driver more of a “command center” perspective. This ethos pulls directly from the simple and iconic looks the C/K Series trucks set in the 1970s and 1980s.

This smarter command center also includes a redesigned wireless phone charger4 area to reduce distractions and a flow-under console. The latter design provides the spaciousness of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console. Ahead of the driver is an available and configurable head-up display.

“It’s a more open-feeling and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design. “It’s an environment that intentionally puts more at the driver’s fingertips, for a greater feeling of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”

Additional interior updates and upgrades include:

    • Fresh screen displays and graphics inspired by the recently refreshed Silverado 1500
    • Authentic leather-wrapped surfaces and real wood accents available on certain models
    • New center console on LT, LTZ and High Country models that incorporates an available wireless charger4
    • More space for side-by-side cupholders in the console: There is a total of 10 total cupholders available, depending on the model and configuration
    • New audio control knobs that help strike an ideal balance between physical and digital controls, along with similar buttons recently introduced in the refreshed Silverado 1500 that allow some popular features to be accessed with a single push
    • Climate vents and controls for second-row passengers
    • Enhanced hidden storage, including in the console, upper and lower gloveboxes and even a sunglasses holder behind the infotainment screen

    New and improved trailering technologies

Chevrolet’s suite of customer-focused trailering technologies is designed to improve the experience with optimal visibility, easier hitching and greater driving comfort when towing a trailer. It’s improved with the 2024 Silverado HD, with a number of enhanced and new features:

    • Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer2 is an all-new technology for Silverado HD. It allows the Silverado HD’s available Adaptive Cruise Control to account for additional drag and increased braking distances when towing a trailer.
    • Enhanced Transparent Trailer2 expands the current Transparent Trailer2 technology by allowing it to work with fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers
    • Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert2 extends the blind zone area of interest to help enhance safety and situational awareness when trailering

  • The pickup reimagined: Introducing the 2024 all-electric Chevrolet Silverado

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST - Front View

Developed from the ground up as a fully-electric truck on GM’s advanced Ultium EV Platform, the Silverado EV offers a boundary-breaking combination of capability, performance and versatility, along with advanced technologies that can evolve the vehicle over time.

“Chevrolet has constantly revolutionized the Silverado franchise to make it the powerhouse it is today,” said Steve Hill, vice president of Chevrolet. “The Ultium Platform is a critical enabler of next-level pickup truck performance for both fleet and retail customers, whether they are currently driving a Silverado or are considering a pickup for the first time.”

At launch, the Silverado EV will be available in two configurations, an RST First Edition and a fleet-oriented WT model. Each will offer a comprehensive suite of standard and available safety technologies.

The flagship RST First Edition includes:

    • Four-wheel steering
    • Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension
    • Multi-Flex Midgate that expands the truck’s cargo capability while maintaining seating for a rear row passenger
    • Available Multi-Flex Tailgate with power release
    • Large, 17-inch-diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen paired with a neighboring 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver instrument display and a multi-color driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 inches
    • Trailering-capable Super Cruise5, the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology, allowing drivers to travel hands-free on more than 200,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada

The WT will launch first for fleet customers and offer impressive capability to meet the needs of organizations with sustainable transportation goals, including 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. The WT will offer 8,000 pounds of towing and 1,200 pounds of payload4. After initial launch, Chevrolet will introduce a fleet model with up to 20,000 pounds max trailering with the max tow package4.

“GM Fleet has long provided customers with great products and services, an exceptional customer experience and innovative solutions to meet their unique business needs,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “We’re excited to launch the Silverado EV, providing customers with a true work-capable truck to help them begin the transition to an electric fleet and assist them in achieving their own sustainability goals.”

    Ultium-powered propulsion

The Silverado EV harnesses the power of the Ultium Platform, which is the foundation of GM’s EV strategy and the driver of the company’s vision for a zero-emissions future.

“The Ultium Platform enabled our design and engineering teams to start from a clean slate and create a pickup with impressive performance and capability,” said Nichole Kraatz, Silverado EV chief engineer. “The result is a truly impressive testament to the creativity and innovation our teams can bring to market with speed and at scale.”

A new body architecture, which efficiently leverages the available 24-module Ultium battery pack as a part of the fundamental structure, enables the vehicle’s impressive range. This structural design integrates the capability Silverado customers have come to expect from a full-size pickup in terms of strength, durability and performance, while also providing a more comfortable, confident ride both on- and off-road.

Additionally, the chassis is designed with independent front and rear suspensions, with power transferred to the available 24-inch wheels on RST via front- and rear-drive motors that compose the e4WD system. Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension enables the vehicle to be raised or lowered up to 2 inches (50 mm).

Four-wheel steer capability reduces the turning radius at lower speeds for greater maneuverability in parking lots, and enhances handling and stability at higher speeds, particularly when trailering.

The RST and WT models also come with Tow/Haul mode, trailer hitch provisions, and an integrated trailer brake controller and Hitch Guidance. The RST also includes Chevy’s Advanced Trailering System.

    Phenomenal performance

The RST and WT feature public DC fast charging capabilities of up to 350kW enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes based on GM estimates.

When combined with the available accessory power bar, the Silverado EV’s PowerBase charging system offers up to 10 outlets, to provide a total of 10.2kW of all-electric power for countless worksite or recreational needs, including powering your home, with the required equipment.

The Silverado EV is also capable of charging another EV using the available accessory charge cord, sharing its power in times of need.

With the growing North American network of chargers and the Energy Assist feature in the myChevrolet Mobile App, drivers can create energy-efficient route planning even while trailering.

RST owners also have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic approach to EV charging, which is designed to simplify the overall charging experience, including access to more than 100,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada.

WT customers have access to Ultium Charge 360 Fleet Service, which offers one of the industry’s most comprehensive charging solutions for businesses, whether drivers take their vehicles home or return to a central depot.

    Designed for performance and functionality

Inside and out, the Silverado EV RST and WT are thoughtfully designed for functional flexibility.

“We had no constraints when it came to designing the Silverado EV with dramatic style and flexible utility because we didn’t need to work around a traditional propulsion system,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Chevrolet Design. “The Ultium Platform allowed us to redefine what it means to offer expansive new storage and utility possibilities.”

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT - Front Angle

Exterior proportions and surfacing convey the truck’s capability and athletic performance. The front-end design has been sculpted to efficiently direct air down the body side, significantly reducing drag and turbulence. As a result, the Silverado EV WT is estimated to have one of the lowest drag coefficients of any available production full-size pickup truck, which helps enable the impressive range.

The Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in Crew Cab models, with a shorter front overhang that gives the truck a more aggressive stance, more spaciousness and enhances forward downvision. The second row is pushed rearward, meaning passengers over 6 feet tall will be comfortable no matter where they sit.

Customizable first row storage on both RST and WT models makes the most of the interior space and provides functional solutions for a variety of customer needs.

The eTrunk – a lockable, weatherproof compartment in the front of the vehicle – provides enough space to fit a large hardside suitcase and a multitude of accessory options for both fleet and retail customers to load gear based on the unique needs of the customer.

The RST’s modular console features a capacity of just over 7 gallons, meaning a lunch cooler can easily fit inside. The RST features a fixed-glass roof, which offers expansive visibility, increased headroom and an enhanced experience for both front and rear passengers.

On the RST, the storage capacity of the 5-foot-11-inch bed is maximized thanks to the innovative available Multi-Flex Midgate, which provides just over 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate when the Midgate is open.

A 40/60 second row seat offers four configurations that allow users to haul gear or equipment while still accommodating a passenger in the second row. With the addition of the available Multi-Flex Tailgate the Silverado EV RST enables up to 10 feet, 10 inches of load floor and storage capability. An available tonneau cover allows items such as lumber or a kayak to be loaded into a fully lockable, weatherproof storage compartment.

    Technologies for today and tomorrow

The Silverado EV is packed with the latest technology, including an advanced software system that enables vehicle technologies to evolve over time.

As a driver approaches the RST with an enabled cell phone or key fob, a distinctive lighting animation greets them.

Upon entering the vehicle, a bold 3D animation appears on the RST’s large 17-inch- diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen, which is paired with a neighboring 11-inch-diagonal driver instrument display. Together with a driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 inches, a driver can’t ask for more information at their disposal. With new, hands-free start, the vehicle turns on automatically after the driver enters with an enabled device, leaving hands free to buckle up and get on the road.

A major enabler of the Silverado EV’s technologies will be the brand’s first application of Ultifi, a new Linux-based software platform. Developed in-house at GM, it separates the vehicle’s software from the hardware to enable rapid and frequent software updates. This will give drivers the opportunity to evolve their vehicles over time, enhancing both the capabilities and accessing cloud services in a flexible and fast way.

    Production, availability, and reservations
The Silverado EV will be assembled with domestically and globally-sourced parts at GM’s Factory ZERO, Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center — a facility repurposed and retooled with a $2.2-billion investment devoted to EV production.

In spring 2023, the Silverado EV will debut a WT model offering GM’s longest range battery with an expected GM-estimated range of over 400 miles on a full charge. In fall 2023, a fully loaded RST First Edition model, also delivering a 400-mile range, will debut with an MSRP of $105,000 + DFC. After production ramps up, Chevrolet will unleash the full Silverado EV portfolio, including WT (with a starting at MSRP of $39,900 + DFC), RST, Trail Boss and more. Customers will have the ability to content the truck across various price ranges, with MSRPs around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 and more, allowing them to choose the truck that meets their capability and pricing needs.

  • 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Specs and Features

2019-Chevrolet-Silverado-1500-910Chevrolet came into 2019 swinging, with their most advanced and powerful Silverado to date that can be found at a Chevy dealership in Oklahoma. Traditionally, Chevrolet has always boasted its ability to deliver vehicles with serious muscle, and their Silverado trucks are no exception. This recent addition to the Silverado family is bigger, lighter, and more powerful than those before it.

Let’s take a good look at the main features and specifications of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, such as the powertrain, trims, exterior and interior design, technology, and general perks.

    Performance

The first thing on the minds of those considering buying a truck is power. How much horsepower, and what sort of technology can you expect with the 2019 Silverado 1500?

One benefit of the Silverado 1500 is the selection of powertrains available to choose from. There’s an engine for every job you could want and the amount of power you need:

    • 6.2L V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management — 420 horsepower and 460 pounds per foot of torque, auto stopping and starting technology, and 10-speed automatic transmission. (Available on the LTZ and High Country models)
    • 5.3L V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management — 355 horsepower and 383 pounds per foot of torque, auto stopping and starting technology, and 8-speed automatic transmission. (Standard on the LT Trail Boss, the LTZ and the High Country; available on the LT and RST)
    • 4.3L V6 with Active Fuel Management — 285 horsepower and 305 pounds per foot of torque, and 6-speed automatic transmission. (Standard on the WT, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss)
    • 2.7L Turbo with Active Fuel Management — 310 horsepower and 348 pounds per foot of torque, auto stopping and starting technology, and 8-speed automatic. (Standard on the LT and RST)

There’s also a drive mode selector, which adjusts the truck’s performance and tune it to the road you’re driving on, providing a smoother and safer ride. Some modes to choose from include tour, sport, tow/haul, terrain, snow/ice and off-road.

There is also the optional Z71 Off-Road Package, which adds features to the truck such as an automatic locking rear differential, a heavy-duty air filter, skid plates, an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires.

This beast has a max payload of 2,250 pounds for the regular cab and max trailering of 12,200 pounds for the double cab. That’s why the Silverado is an excellent choice for towing and hauling.

    Design

The 2019 Silverado 1500 is bigger than ever. It has a beautifully bold, sleek, and modern design. But unlike some trucks it’s not just made to look pleasing to the eye, it can also do everything other trucks do — and more.

    Exterior Design

    • Durabed — the truck bed is a whopping maximum of 81.9 cubic feet for the regular cab design. It’s immensely durable, great for hauling and work. It offers more volume than the competition.
    • High Strength Steel Bed Floor — extremely strong and resistant to wear and tear

  • Chevy team announces details about the upcoming 2020 Silverado HD lineup

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD2020 Silverado HD will debut this February 2019 and will be the most capable and advanced in the lineup so far. At least, in Chevrolet’s own words. Built in Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, new family member will showcase sexy exterior design, blended with heavy-duty features. In fact, this will be the only Silverado vehicle to feature exclusive exterior components that aren’t present with previous models. In terms of interior, the vehicle benefits from similar exclusive and unique changes, including three additional inches of legroom on crew cab models and taller and more comfortable seating position.

    2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Also, as it comes to drivetrain system, 2020 Silverado HD comes with a choice of two engines: a fully revised gasoline engine with direct injection, mated to a six-speed gearbox and a Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 that delivers the massive 910lb-ft of torque, distributed by a new Allison 10-speed transmission. Cool, right? Furthermore, 2020 Silverado HD will also offer an all-new customer-focused trailering technology, which would significantly increase towing and payload capabilities and will host new technologies and utilities, especially created for heavy-duty truck drivers.

We must admit that Chevy team has recently presented some outstanding trucks and heavy-duty vehicles that are capable of reshaping the segment and showcase some future technologies. Since introducing the first three-truck strategy with midsize, full-size and heavy-duty trucks back in 2014, Chevrolet has become the best-selling truck brand. This momentum is expected to continue with the launch of new Colorado ZR2 Bison, new Silverado 1500, Silverado Medium-Duty and new Silverado HD models.

  • Chevy team showcases Silverado’s trailering capabilities

2019-Silverado-Trailering-System-910The new 2019 Silverado 1500 will showcase some new features and systems that were previously unavailable – for the new model year Chevrolet team has geared all light-duty Silverado models with myChevrolet trailering phone app, along with Advanced Trailering System that includes access to system in-vehicle. Neat!

Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s also new Trailering Camera Package that works in conjunction with both of these technologies and ensures more comprehensive and clear trailer view. Also, it provides new features for LTZ and High Country trim levels as Auto Parking Brake Assist, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View that adds dynamic backing guidance to the Rear Vision Camera and Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

But let’s get back to the Infotainment app, shall we? This little goodie also allows customers to track mileage, fuel economy and gearbox temperature of the truck while towing. Customers can also benefit from brake gain memory, which provides fingerprint control of the trailer brakes in order to let the customer set and save the controller’s brake gain setting for each trailer.

  • How strong is Chevy Silverado’s body structure. These experiments give a decent idea [w/video]

2016 Chevrolet Silverado Numerous laboratory tests and experiments show that Silverado’s roll-formed and high-strength steel bed outperforms all similar body structures in a segment. Or, at least, this is what Chevy team tries to convince us in.

According to Sandor Piszar, brand’s truck marketing director, the Silverado has these advantages over other competitors:

Chevrolet has conducted three comparisons to the stamped aluminum bed of 2016 Ford F-150. Also, some of the test included a wedge-shaped striker that examined body’s rigidity in the hard way. But the sample remained intact up to 90 joules of impact energy, while the bodies of competitors have crushed at just 30 joules.

SEE ALSO: New High Desert package makes Chevrolet Silverado more capable and attractive

Also, Mr. Piszar makes a statement that the Silverado remained undamaged by 55 landscaping block weighing with a total weight of 347 kilograms were dropped into the bed five feet above the bed floor. In all of the takes that were 12, the Silverado got only scratches and dents. The video also shows some more experiments with brute force, but we will remain silent, so you can watch with interest.

In fact, vehicle’s strength originates from a high-strength steel alloy connection that is so strong, it cannot be formed with traditional stamping. Instead, Chevy engineers use roll-forming process which enhances material strength by creating less material fatigue than stamping. Cool.

  • New High Desert package makes Chevrolet Silverado more capable and attractive

Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package front and side viewChevrolet Silverado High Desert package has been specifically introduced for those who are looking for more from the Silverado. It is available on LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels and will arrive in dealers this fall. Actually, the model is based on a concept variant, which was on display at 2014 SEMA Show. Yes, this means that it brings unique content and great capability.

In short, the High Desert pack adds improved exterior styling, new lockable cargo system and Magnetic Ride Control suspension for the High Country grade. To go in details, interesting here is the new flexible and lockable storage system in the cargo bed, which locks the cargo away safely.

The system is mounted over the roll-formed steel bed and adds dual side storage bins and a three-piece hard tonneau cover. For all Silverado models, the tailgate locks with the keyfob. This allows users to secure their cargo with the push of a button.

Furthermore the High Desert package also offers a variety of wheels depending on the trim level. Precisely, the LT trim features 20-inch wheels with all-season tires. On the other hand, the 22-inch wheels and all-terrain tires go with the LTZ and High Country levels.

What is more, the top-of-the-range grade, the High Desert, will also get the Magnetic Ride Control suspension. The latter offers more precise body motion control, because of its sensors, which “read” the road every millisecond. When change is detected, they trigger the damping changes in as little as five milliseconds in electronically controlled shock absorbers.

At last but not least, the new Silverado equipped with the High Desert pack will be driven with the EcoTec3 6.2L V-8 engine (LTZ and High Country trims). The unit is connected to Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission and is rated at 420 horsepower (309 kW) and 623 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. This makes it the most powerful engine in a light-duty truck currently in the market.
