  • Range Rover_e – 20 miles with zero emissions

If you want to be a green-oriented person, you no longer need to ride a bicycle. Why, because the new Range_e is at hand. The Jaguar Land Rover’s technology concept for a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain just received the 2011 Award for Automotive Innovation by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). And there are many reasons about this accomplishment. The innovative system was first revealed at the Geneva motor show in March. It has been acclaimed by the auto industry as the most significant achievement of the year and as a great development for the world-wide market.

The first reason for all these achievements is that the Range_e marks the globe as a luxury all-wheel drive vehicle, which is powered by a plug-in hybrid system: equipped both with a 94PS (69kW) electric motor and 14.2kWh lithium-ion battery with Land Rover’s 245PS (180 kW)  3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine. This fascinating eco-friendly vehicle is based on the Range Rover Sport and what is important it can be driven for more than 20 miles on its electric power creating zero tailpipe emissions(isn’t it stunning). Furthermore, to optimize the CO2 emissions, the diesel hybrid drivetrain takes care about it. Can you even imagine that the overall CO2 output is only 89g/km and all goes with 85mpg fuel economy, while at the same time the system’s combined power of 339PS (249 kW) delivers a top speed of around 193 km/h (120mph). And if you wonder about the battery recharging – it can be accomplished simply and efficiently by connecting the system to an external 240V power source!!!

The award that has been given is sponsored by GKN, was presented to Jaguar Land Rover at the SMMT annual dinner by Norman Baker (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport), and Rob Rickell (GKN Global Engineering Director).

May be you don’t know that the Range_e is one of a number of Land Rover projects supported by the UK Government’s Technology Strategy Board. In addition five more prototype models are currently engaged in a test program with Land Rover’s fellow members of the CABLED (Coventry and Birmingham Low Emissions Demonstrators – consortium). There’s no doubt that this technology is the future and it is destined to be deployed in production vehicles. For this reason Land Rover is planning an introduction of its first diesel-electric hybrid model in 2013. Stay tuned … and eco!

  • Land Rover Defender Concept DC100 in Frankfurt

Land Rover took the interesting DC100 Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle is practically the new Defender model, which is expected sometimes in 2015, of course, if the world does not end in 2012…

Here is an interesting video directly from the Auto Show published by Marchettino in Youtube. You can see all the interesting extras of the DC100.

The SUV is powered by a 2.0 liter petrol engine and a 2.0 liter diesel, which are mated to an 8-speed gearbox.

  • 2012 Land Rover Defender Price £20 995

Land Rover has announced its new 2012 Defender, which comes with EURO 5 2.2 litre common rail diesel engine replacing the old EU4 2.4 litre unit.

Still, besides the smaller capacity, the new engine delivers the same amount of power, torque and the economy is even better. In EU5 markets, the new engine comes with a DPF (diesel particulate filter) to ensure the lowest possible levels of regulated emissions.

“The substantial improvements to the Defender in 2007 transformed its on-road refinement and comfort whilst extending its legendary capability off-road for which Defender is synonymous. • Fifth Gear Web TV: 27.0 Litre Rover SD1 – Charlie’s Story

In one of the latest episodes of Fifth Gear, Johnny Smith takes interview from Charlie, who is the owner of truly staggering home-made Rover SD1.

The incredible about the car is not only its uniqueness, but the brutal 27.0 liter engine from an aeroplane or exactly from World War II Spitfire plane.

The ride with Charlie was rather scary and after 150mph (240 km/h), Johnny searched for a handle to catch… but the driver continued to accelerate the home-made machine and it eventually made over 160 mph (260 km/h).

Another interesting thing about the car is the rear badge – V12 27L. Clearly, the „V12” is taken from an old Merc and „27L” is probably taken from the neighbourhood tuning shop.

Check out the video and see the whole story of Charlie and its incredible home-made car.

  • UNICHIP 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 Twin-Turbo

Unichip announced a new performance package for Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre TDV6 twin turbo diesel.

The Uni-Q piggy back ECU is a DIY fitment via its plug and play “U-Connect” wiring loom, allowing for easy installation or removal in minutes.

Uni-Q piggy back is not a re-map for the ECU, so it leaves no electronic footprint. Still, it adds 22BHP at 3031RPM and 31Nm at 2241RPM. This translates into improved low speed performance for towing, caravanning, off-road performance and overtaking. After the uprade, TDV6 returns 30 mpg on combined cycle.

The Uni-Q piggy back ECU is priced at £423.15 excluding VAT. It fits all Range Rover 3.0-litre TDV6 models produced from September 2009 onwards.
