All these additions make me think about Nissan’s plans for the future. Giving so much for free is not only because engineers and designers want to show-off with cool products, right? Well, my conclusion is that this is a sort of long-term investment in order to make new customers keep hooked on all these pleasurable gadgets and systems. I wonder whether this plan succeeds..

  • Nissan reveals some more goodies for the 2017 Pathfinder. Check ’em out!

Pathfinder, one of Nissan’s most, if not the most, popular lineups receives a comprehensive upgrade for the upcoming 2017 model year lineup. In pure Nissan style, the vehicle receives tons of new gadgets, enhanced capabilities and some sweet styling tweaks here and there. So, without further due, let’s see what Nissan has revealed this time.

    Updates and enhancements

First of all, there is a change in the exterior appearance: the design team has done a lot to make this new Pathfinder somehow more adventure-ready and give off stronger sense of power. There are new boomerang-shaped headlights, new LED daytime running lights, optional LED headlights, V-Motion grille design and overall more aggressive front end.

In terms of drivetrain system and capabilities, buyers will be dealing with a new 3.5-liter Direct Injection Gasoline V6 machine, capable of producing a total of 284hp (211kW). This means a kick in power, measured with 26hp more than the predecessor model.

There are also additions in terms of safety: new technologies take place as Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control and Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection. Advanced Driver Assistance suite is also present. It includes Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control and exclusively for this model there is Moving Object Detection and Around View Monitor.

Available in 4WD and 2WD drive set and in a total of four trim levels, this sweetie sets some really high standard for other rivals out there!

  • Nissan and five other brands gather to aid the ad campaign for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Lucasfilm has just announced that it teams up with five big and famous brands, in order to launch some big promotional campaign in support of the latest Star Wars movie: “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. The brands are Duracell, General Mills, Gillette, Nissan and Verizon. Cool.

All of these brands will launch specific and custom-designed campaigns and promotions in their own and unique style: this time the latest Star Wars movie will get not only wide fan support, but also massive aid by world’s biggest names in business.

    More about the movie

Taking place back in the time of the first Death Star, the Rogue One plot will tell us about some brave men /and aliens/ and their mission to steal some precious Imperial documents. Sounds good? What we know so far is that director Gareth Edwards will try to represent a new look to some of the most notable Star Wars sights, characters and events. Hopefully, we will see some badass acting, tons of action, comprehensive storyline and cool vehicle designs.

And since Nissan team supports the advertisement campaign, I do wonder whether we would see some flying Nissan machines out there. Just imagine how hilarious it would be to see some badass flying thing out there with Nissan logo at the front.

However, what are your expectations about the movie? Write down in the comment section below!

  • Nissan Navara with Euro6 engines? It was about time!

2017 Nissan Navara Nissan team hasn’t finished with upgrades yet

Nissan enthusiasts and pick-up fans are granted with one more reason to rethink buying a Navara truck. We all know that this is one of brand’s most successful lineups and we all know that 2016 model is the big winner at this year’s International Pick-up Award. What we did not know is that Nissan team decided to go beyond prizes and recognitions.

    New summer, new engine type

And here it is: fresh, shiny and clean Euro 6-compliant power unit. Nice and powerful. Flexible and efficient. Such a beauty…or maybe no? However, the big upgrade covers both the 190hp (141kW) and 160hp (119kW) versions. These are 2.3-liter dCi diesel systems and their offering is clear: reduction with 8g/km of CO2 emissions, compared to the Euro5 units to a total of 159g/km, while the Official Combined Cycle marks improvement with 1.4mpg to 46.3mpg. Well, when you think about it, the change is not that dramatic, but hey, who cares? We got some fresh new gadgets over here!

SEE ALSO: Nissan Armada 8-passenger SUV: what should we expect from the 2017 model lineup?

Okay, let’s get serious here. The reduction rates are not that spectacular, but what the new engines offer is reduction in oxides of nitrogen, thanks to the new Selective Catalyst Reduction system. Also, the AdBlue tank is especially tweaked to offer more flexibility for the user. Its capacity is a total of 17 liters of liquid, which allows up to 7,150 miles of coverage with single a fill. Also, there are some digital additions: a special app will show details and condition of the AdBlue system onto Navara’s colorful LCD monitor. Sweet.

    2017 Nissan Navara

And the good news? This is not all! Nissan Navara also receives Idle-Stop System for reduced fuel consumption for all manual models, Cruise Control with Speed Limiter, Bluetooth hands-free audio controls and multifunctional steering wheel.

This is just enough to get you and your seven friends at any destination without sacrificing smoothness, comfort or some high-speed action. Also, the 7-speed automatic gearbox will take care for engine revs and proper acceleration rates. Cool.

  • Here is why 1935 Datsun Type 14 is of remarkable historical importance

1935 Datsun Type 14 front view

1935 Datsun Type 14 might actually look like other cars from the 30s but it isn’t. It is way more than that! The Type 14 is an unusual machine, with potent 15 PS for its time and a remarkable history. If it wasn’t born back then, then we wouldn’t have Nissan nowadays.

We must admit that Datsun is kind of strange name, but its origin has an interesting history. The company Kwaishinsha created the DAT (where “DAT-sun” came from) was founded in 1911 by Mr. Hashimoto. He had a dream to make cars that were suited for the Japanese market and to export them. 1914 marked the birth of his first small 2-cylinder 10-horsepower car. For it, he borrowed the initial letters of the surnames of his three investors: K. Den, R. Aoyama, and M. Takeuchi, and respectively the name “DAT” appeared on the automotive scene.

SEE ALSO: Another Debut for Datsun GO-cross Concept [w/videos]

Almost two decades later Kwaishinsha combined forces with Jitsuyo Jidosha Co., thus forming the Dat Jidosha Seizo Co. Its main purpose during those years was to produce military vehicles. However, in 1931 the brand “opened a new door”, developing a new passenger car with 500cc engine capacity and 10 horsepower. It embodied the DAT spirit, but was more compact than the original. Hence it required new name: DATSON, or the “Son of DAT”. However, Japanese people are very superstitious and because in their language “son” means “loss”, they decided to changed it to “SUN”…for brighter way to put things out. The car went eventually on sale a year later.

    1935 Datsun Type 14

In 1934 is the ecstatic moment in history when the Jidosha-Seizo Co. became Nissan Motor Co., simultaneously starting a full-scale production. The first car of the new company that came off the line was the Datsun Type 14. It was powered by a brand new 15 HP with 722cc capacity. In addition, it had something that previous generations didn’t: the rabbit mascot created by the designer Ryuichi Tomiya.

Type 14 never made it outside the Japanese market, but there was the option of shipping it to the owner, if he could afford it. This is the case of the here presented example of the 1935 Type 14, which was transported to Britain by the car manufacturing magnate Sir Herbert Austin, the creator and owner of Austin Motor Company. He wanted to inspect every detail for possible patent violation because the car looked similar to the Austin 7 Ruby. No action was ever taken by him, but what was left was a never registered car put into storage.

The good new is that this historically significant vehicle is now part of UK’s National Motor Museum collection. So, if you are in the vicinity, go witness history!

  • AEB system: is it that popular and important as they want us to see it?

2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe New car sales researches revealed what majority of people prefer when it comes to buying a new vehicle. Analyzed by independent researchers, results show that buyers mainly prefer cars with more safety features, but for some reason not everyone is into the Autonomous Emergency Braking. Interesting.

However, good thing is to know that people are heading towards safety, instead of some overall useless hi-tech tweaks, right? However, results show some mixed opinions as it comes to standard safety equipment. Although the first vehicles in the rank have great safety suites, also in the top 3 is the Vauxhall Corsa: a neat vehicle, but with twice as less safety stuff, compared with the leader in the list: the C-Class.

SEE ALSO: Mercedes G500 becomes a stylish icon handcrafted by Carbon Motors

However, one of the most handy and reliable systems, the Autonomous Emergency Braking is available with all of the list with most popular cars. Some brands include it as a part of the standard equipment, others prefer to gear it optionally – with client’s personal preferences.

So, what are people into? Here’s the full list:

    Mercedes-Benz C-Class
AEB is named Collision Prevention Assist Plus and is part of the standard equipment.

    Volkswagen Golf
The good ol’ Golf lineup incorporates the system to almost all of its models as a part of the standard equipment. Fun thing is that VW does not offer AEB as an extra.

    Nissan Qashqai
This one also incorporates the AEB system to almost all vehicles in the lineup, but also offers it as an additional feature.

    Ford Focus
Coming by the name of Active City Stop, the system is fitted to surprisingly low number of vehicle models, but the good news is that Ford team offers it as a standalone feature for reasonable pricing.

    Vauxhall Astra
The trustworthy Astra also appears to sort of not like the AEB: the vehicles, equipped with this system are as low as 34% of the whole range. Good thing is that AEB is optionally available.

    MINI
The system also comes as optional extra and is simply named  Driving Assistant.

    VW Polo
Named City Emergency Braking, the AEB is available only as a part of the optional “ACC” pack.

    Ford Fiesta
The Fiesta also does not incorporate the system as part of the standard pack and offers it as a standalone purchase.

    Vauxhall Mokka
Although popular and reliable, the whole lineup does not feature AEB even as a standard feature.

    Vauxhall Corsa
Just like the Mokka, Corsa lineup tends to not like the AEB: it is not available even as optional feature.

  • Nissan Note Black Edition: comprehensive in style, poor in quality

2016 Nissan Note Black EditionOkay, this one caught our eye! The exterior is definitely a good one. It looks modern, sharp, and enhances the confident look of the new Black Edition. And with the Dynamic Styling Pack installed we got not only sweet body lines and curves, but also sporty body-colored new bumpers, side skirts and black bezel headlights. Of course, the new performance-focused black spoiler finishes the story of elegance and power.

    2016 Nissan Note Black Edition

You may wonder why I rushed with the exterior features in this article. I decided to start with the good sides of the car. The thing is that the body styling is the only thing that we liked about the revised Nissan Note Black Edition. Yes, we get sweet 16-inch wheels, new door handles and mirror covers, new finishes and additional components, but the car still feels mediocre in its quality and engineering. Even cheap.

SEE ALSO: A GT-R sports car versus a GT-R drone: how and why!?

The interior of the Note Black Edition has also undergone some changes. The central console is finished in glossy black, completely matching the black gear shift knob. At the same time, the black headliner contributes a bit to the contemporary look. But that is all. We see a functional cabin, but it definitely feels like it is made out of low-quality plastic. For sure this is not a premium wanna-be vehicle, but we think that the design team could have done a better job with making us feel the well-known premium Nissan ambience.

    2016 Nissan Note Black Edition

Black Edition models also come with two optional engines: you can get yours with either a 1.5-liter dCi 90 manual or the 1.2-liter 80 manual.

    2016 Nissan GT-R Drone

Nissan showcases the GT-R Drone: the fastest accelerating First Person View racing drone in the world. Or, at least, it is expected to be.

This gadget was created to be able to keep up with the 2017 Nissan GT-R, while filming on the racetrack and features some of the latest and greatest technologies. It was custom designed by World Drone Prix Champions, Tornado XBlades Racing and uses special race configuration that lets it reach 100 km/h (62mph) in mere 1.3 seconds. Impressive, right?

    2016 Nissan GT-R Drone

And in order to prove itself worthy, the agile drone was challenged on the Silverstone circuit. Both the GT-R Drone and GT-R sportscar showed their best and surely entertained the audience. And when you think about it, it’s not an everyday sight: there’s a 3.8-liter 24-valve V6 beast that is especially created to dominate the most challenging race tracks around the globe and then there is this sweet drone thing that tries to catch on.

  • Long term use of Electric Vehicles?

    EV vs Combustion cars

Or why it might be a strikingly bad idea

In ten years one million electric cars are expected to be rolling on the roads of America. There is a lot of money going on here, and billions have been invested in subsidizing the production of the EVs and all of the components they use. And we are all familiar with the benefits electric cars offer, but what we aren’t exposed to is the disadvantages of owing an electric car.To be more specific, what the long term problems might be.

First, the cost is one major crux. Let’s have an example to make things clearer and easier to grasp. Nissan Leaf, being the first battery electric vehicle that was mass-produced, costs two times more than a Nissan Versa, and both are being positioned in the same car range. If we exclude the eco-benefits of the first one, it seems that the Leaf doesn’t make any sense.

For one, Leaf has only one fourth of the power of the Versa. But, you may now say there are still benefits, when taking into consideration that the electric energy is cheaper than the gasoline. Then you could compromise on power (but could you really). Here’s the big catch. Sometimes electric cars need to be charged in large amounts in order to function properly. In addition, the long term benefit in investment like this is rather suspicious. If we have to make the appropriate calculations, it ends up that to get one’s money back with an interest, it should take more than nine years of driving the Leaf everyday. These estimations are based on the fact that the EV is capable of traveling up to 60 miles on a single charge and to recover the purchase cost one should drive at least around 165,000 miles.

SEE ALSO: Autonomous cars – when will they take over? [w/video]

And how about the time? I mean the time it takes to travel with an electric car… Just imagine how busy people living in busy cities have to deal with deadlines, meetings, etc., within the traveling speed of an EV. Just hilarious! And it gets even funnier if you imagine that it runs out of energy during such nervous and erroneous time.

Have this mental picture: you are running late for an important meeting, driving your super fast EV, and eventually it seems to be out of charge. It is hot outside, but to extract an extra mile out of it you have to turn off the AC, the headlights and all technical stuff inside that require more energy. You end up sweating and perspiring, and late for your important meeting, thanking that you have left the EV behind (and completely dead) and got a cab, which was ironically driven by a combustion engine.

    Nissan Leaf EV side view

Regarding the time, there’s another disadvantage. If you are driving a gasoline car, then when you run out of fuel, you just go to the gas station and refuel it (and go for additional 300 miles). Well, this isn’t the case with the EVs. One of the biggest drawbacks here is that the recharging time varies from one hour for a fast recharge (but who could count on that) up to 20 hours for a full one (on a house current). And you would still go for 60 miles. It is extremely convenient, isn’t it? To make things look a little bit better, companies have developed charging stations for an extra cost (of course), which reduce the charging times to 4 or 8 hours. But here’s the catch. If use them too often, then you might end up buying new batteries for your EV, because it seems that the chargers (which you have bought for an additional amount of money) shorten their life. But if you have chosen to drive an electric car in a long term plan, you will still end up changing the batteries. In this case you should prepare around $5,000… or more.

Looking beyond the benefit of no-gas-fuelling and zero-CO2 emissions, the electric cars seem to NOT be the best choice for transportation means in a long term plan. But you could still wishfully want to save the environment. To keep you thinking, the CO2 emissions produced by the U.S. electric power sector are about 37% of the total U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions, while 31% are associated with combustion of fossil fuels used by gasoline and diesel cars.
