  • Nissan GT-R GT800+ Turbo Drive – 327km/h Tire Blowout!

One of the worst fears of every driver is to blowout a tire, especially a front one. The danger grows exponentially with the speed and imagine, if you are driving with over 300 km/h and this happens…

The misfortune happened to an extremely tuned Nissan GT-R GT800+ Turbo Drive (over 800HP) with 327 km/h (203 mph). The vehicle was accelerating crazily at the highway and just after it passed the 200 mph barrier, the unthinkable occurred. The front right Dunlop Sport Maxx GT600 tire exploded and the driver found himself flying towards the concrete wall.

Fortunately, he managed to keep the car under control and no fatal accidents occurred. While, he was slowing down he passed a lorry and a normal car with over 180 km/h (and a blown tire).

Remember, that he can’t step hard on the brakes, because the car is more likely to lose control and spin.

When luck is combined with professional skills, everything is fine!

Take a close look at the video below and remember that this can happen without warning!

  • Nissan’s Forward Emergency Braking Technology

Nissan’s new Forward Emergency Braking technology works like Bats do. Consider that bats fly in the pitch black but rarely, if ever, hit anything. And some types of bats can catch insects while flying in the dark. To do this, bats they emit very high frequency sounds and use sonar, analyzing how the signals bounce off other objects, to give them an accurate grasp on distances and locations. All of this in the pitch dark.

The latest technology in Nissans uses similar techniques to analyze certain environments and situations. Unfortunately humans do not have sonar so they must use their eyes and ears to check his surroundings. At times this may not be enough to prevent collisions and accidents. Too bad cars aren’t like bats.

Well, now they can be, sort of. Engineers at Nissan have developed a technology called Forward Emergency Braking. The way it works is that in some situations, the technology calculates whether there is a risk of a collision with an object detected in front of the vehicle and then responds.

This is how it works. The Forward Emergency Braking system constantly monitors the distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it. This means that if for some reason the distance to the other car suddenly decreases, the system will determine that there is a risk of collision and will sound an audible alert. At this stage, the driver needs to notice this warning and then take action to avoid a collision.

But if this doesn’t happen and the system judges that the car is still in danger of colliding with something, it will automatically engage the brakes, helping avoid a collision. If a collision is unavoidable, the speed of the vehicle will have been decreased helping to mitigate damage caused by the collision.

The Forward Emergency Braking system is just one of the many technologies available to help drivers stay aware of their surroundings. Additionally, there is also Blind Spot Warning (BSW), which can detect another car diagonally behind, an area that may be difficult for a driver to see. There is also Lane Departure Warning (LDW), which alerts a driver when they are about to stray from their lane. There is even technology that can read road signs and warn a driver if they are trying to enter a one-way street traveling the wrong direction.

Think this is advanced, the folks in Nissan Safety Technology Group are working on systems that sense whats going on with a vehicle two cars ahead. How is this possible? When a car is traveling on a highway or a place where multiple cars are moving in a row, the sensor at the front of the car can detect the distance to and also the relative speed of the vehicle two cars ahead. The technology is no longer just watching directly in front; it is now looking even further ahead. For example, if the driver two cars ahead of yours suddenly braked, the technology in the car can detect this and tell the driver so he or she can perform the next appropriate action.

The technology is called Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW). It examines the movement of the car traveling two vehicles ahead and if it determines that the driver should brake, it will alert him or her both visually and by a warning sound. By warning the driver to brake early on, it can help prevent a pileup.

Nissan knows that technology that monitors the surroundings can work to reduce accidents or the damage caused by unavoidable collisions. Just like bats in the dark, the latest car technologies are helping drivers keep an eye on certain vehicle surroundings, helping to reduce potential accidents.

  • Nissan GT-R vs Michelle Jenneke – Australian Hurdler

Top Gear has published an awesome video on Youtube in their typical humoristic style. It features a Nissan GT-R and the Australian hurdler – Michelle Jenneke. The question is simple – which is faster? A GT-R or a woman?

To make the race more interesting, the sprint is made to a 50 meter mark and back to the start. In that case, the GT-R should go in reverse gear, which is a bit harder to change as Jeremy explains.

    The GT-R is the Mk.1 powered by a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V6 with 480HP (353 kW) at 6,400RPM and 588Nm (436 lb-ft) of torque at 3,200RPM. 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed 310 km/h (194 mph). The curb weight is 1,750 kg (3858 lbs). It rolls enormous 20” alloy wheels fitted with 255/40 R20 and 285/35 R20 front/rear performance tires.

Nothing is mentioned about the acceleration of Michelle, but she obviously takes the start.

Jeremy Clarkson uses the launch control as a real “gentleman”.

The race is really close. Enjoy!

  • Datsun mi-DO is a Five-Door Hatchback for Russia

Datsun-mi-DO-THUMBDatsun mi-DO has just made its debut at the Moscow International Autosalon (MIAS). The five-door sibling of Datsun on-DO made it worldwide launch there, being the second Datsun model which will be seen on the streets of Russia. The on-DO was revealed in April this year and its first deliveries are expected in September. mi-DO is a sporty five-door hatchback, which is dominated by brand’s confident ‘D-Cut’ grille.

The grille in turn is flanked by dramatically elongated projector headlamps that stretch virtually from grille to fender. This differentiates the sedan and the hatchback at a glance. Both models however share the same wheelbase and front-wheel drive chassis layout. The mi-DO is shorter which emphasizes its driving dynamics.

Precisely, the wheelbase is 2,476 mm long, 1,500 mm tall and 1,700 mm wide, but the new Datsun mi-DO is 3,950 mm long in comparison to the Datsun on-DO which is 4,337 mm. In terms of equipment, the designers have prioritized the comfort and safety. Every car will have a driver and passenger airbag as well as ABS. As a standard there will be also included a winter pack with heated seats and door mirrors.

The new mi-DO will be powered by the 1.6-liter 8V engine, which produces 87 horsepower (64 kW). The unit will be coupled as a standard with a five speed manual transmission, while the option is the four-speed automatic transmission.

And if you wonder about the names Datsun on-DO and Datsun mi-DO, well they reflect cars’ international heritage, encompassing Japanese, English and Russian themes. DO is a Japanese word that translates ‘moving’ and also refers to a ‘way’ of doing things. The Russian word ‘on’ is means ‘he’, while ‘mi’ sounds to a Russian speaker like the English word ‘me’ and personalises the car.

Sales of Datsun mi-Do are scheduled to start in early 2015.

  • Nissan Altima is most comfortable car under USD 30,000

    2015-Nissan-Altima_thumb2015-Nissan-Altima_651

Owners of the Nissan Altima have one more reason to be happy with their purchase – in the United States the Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com has named the 2014 Nissan Altima one of the “10 most comfortable cars under USD 30,000”. The Altima is sixth on the list with KBB.com editors specifically citing its “notably comfortable” NASA-inspired “Zero Gravity” front seats as a selling-point.

“In addition to its advanced ‘Zero Gravity’ front seats, the 2014 Altima features soft-touch armrests as well as noise absorption materials to help reduce cabin noise and improve the overall experience inside the vehicle,“ said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations. “Coupled with its innovative, stylish design and wide range of available technology features, the Altima is the perfect home-away-from-home. This honor from Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com further reaffirms our commitment to comfortable, quality products and the needs of our customers.”

In order to create the “10 Most Comfortable Cars Under $30,000” list, KBB.com editors select vehicles that offer comfort-oriented features and that “debuted upmarket just a few years ago”. All vehicles on the list sell for less than USD 30,000 according to Kelley Blue Book’s Fair Purchase Price (FPP), a tool designed to show shoppers what others are paying for a specific new car. The 2014 Nissan Altima FPP now is USD 21,223, which places it among the three most affordable vehicles on the list.

The 2014 Nissan Altima offers a premium exterior and interior and driver-focused technology, which make it one of the best selling cars in the United States. The starting price of only USD 22,170 adds to this performance too. The car is offered in five well-equipped models and two engines – a 182-horsepower (134 kW) 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder inline engine, that achieves US 38 mpg (6.2 liters per 100 km), and a 270-horsepower (199 kW) 3.5-liter V6 engine. Both engines arrive with a smooth and efficient Xtronic transmission.

  • Infiniti ESQ is Twin of Nissan Juke for the Chinese Market

Infiniti-ESQ-THUMBInfiniti ESQ is going to be officially shown at the 2014 Chengdu Auto Show in China which will take place on 29th of August. There will be revealed the details specifications of the model. And as you can see, although it is branded as Infiniti, it definitely looks like Nissan’s Juke Nismo but with a different grille and some other distinctive styiling cues. The Nismo twin is driven by a 1.6-liter MR16DDT DIG-T direct injection turbo petrol engine.

The unit produces 197 horsepower (145 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque, and drives the four-wheels. Yes, this is the same powertrain which drives the Juke Nismo. The SUV’s engine comes coupled with a continuously variable transmission with manual shifting.

The main difference between both cars is inside. It seems that the ESQ looks more posh than the Nismo. This was achieved via the replacement of suede and Alcantara in the Nissan with leather and cross-stitching in the Infiniti.

The car is scheduled to go on sale throughout the Asian market, specifically in China, starting this October. The expected initial price in US dollars is around $33,000 USD, which is nearly $10,000 USD more than price of the Juke Nismo of the 2014 model year.
