    2020 MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition1

MINI launches the Paddy Hopkirk Edition, a limited edition of 100 cars available to order now in the UK and based on the MINI Cooper S 3-door Hatch. In honor of the Northern Irish rally driver and inspired by the historic rally winning model, the special edition is Chili Red with a white contrast roof and features the famous starting number 37 livery.

Patrick ‘Paddy’ Hopkirk clinched the first victory behind the wheel of the classic Mini Cooper S number 37 at the legendary Monte Carlo Rally in 1964. Driving the small British car with his English co-pilot Henry Liddon, Hopkirk overcame the odds against competitors with significantly greater engine power. The surprise win in Monte Carlo made Paddy Hopkirk the UK’s most famous rally driver overnight and the classic Mini advanced from outsider and crowd-pleaser to becoming a motor racing legend. Hopkirk’s Finnish teammates Timo Mäkinen and Rauno Aaltonen added two more outright victories to the title collection in the Mini Cooper S 37 in 1965 and 1967.

The winning streak at the Monte Carlo Rally continues to inspire MINI fans all over the world to this day. With the MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition, they now have the opportunity to express their passion for racing. In the style of the historic rally winner, the edition model features the car’s start number 37 on the driver and passenger doors. It also has 17-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Track Spoke Black design and numerous other accentuations in dark colors. The frame and horizontal brace of the radiator grille are finished in high-gloss black, as are the inserts for the lower air intakes, the bonnet opening, door handles, fuel filler flap, tailgate handle, the MINI logos at the front and rear as well as the surrounds for the headlights and rear lights. On the inside, the car features the motorsport-inspired Alcantara John Cooper Works steering wheel.

The start number 37 also appears on the side indicator elements known as side scuttles. Other features on the exterior are stickers with the inscription “Paddy Hopkirk Monte Carlo” and a single white bonnet stripe on the driver’s side which bears the signature of the 1964 “Monte” winner. In addition, the famous number and letter combination 33 EJB of the number plate of the 1964 Monte Carlo winning car is shown on the bonnet strip using 3D effect graphics.

Hopkirk’s signature also appears on the decorative trim strip on the passenger side, which forms part of the Piano Black high-gloss interior surfaces. Another exclusive design feature is the MINI LED “Paddy Hopkirk” entry sills.

The MINI Navigation Pack and Comfort Pack are included in the MINI Paddy Hopkirk Edition as well as auxiliary headlights in Piano Black, a keycap with the start number 37, and the Waistline Finisher in Piano Black for the trim strips between the body and the greenhouse.

  • B&B team shows off with a monstrous MINI Cooper! Check it out!

2017 B&B Automobiltechnik MINI Cooper S Countryman As it seems, B&B Performance team is somehow attracted to gearing ridiculous amounts of power in relatively small packages: we have seen he 300hp VW Lupo RS, the 385hp Audi S1 and the 400hp VW Polo VR6 Turbo. But there was still something missing. Indeed, we are talking about a MINI vehicle that has undergone a comprehensive tuning program and now can proudly stay next to its brothers as a small machine with tons of power.

The lucky MINI is a Cooper S Countryman that can be specified with three levels of engine upgrade. The first level, or also known as Stage 3, offers a total of 275hp (205kW) and 385kW of torque. A neat gap, given that the original setup was capable of producing „only“ 192horsepower and 280Nm. This machine also reaches 100km/h (62mph) in mere 6.2 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h (the stock model was dealing with 222km/h).

    2017 B&B Automobiltechnik MINI Cooper S Countryman

What is special about this one is that B&B team has included an exclusive high-performance air-to-air intercooler, a large diametral exhaust downpipe and some comprehensive ECU remap tweaks. Sweet, isn’t it?

The next stage, so called Stage 2 delivers a total of 245hp and 350Nm of torque and deals with the same exclusive upgrades: air-to-air intercooler, large diametral exhaust, ECU remapping and more.

SEE ALSO: Fostla.de and the Vinyl Beast: Appealing and Powerful

And the last and most advanced pack one can get is the Stage 1 upgrade. This is the so-called flagship model of the tuning project and offers super-comprehensive ECU software remap of the fuel and ignition curves, adds a turbo boost pressure of about 0.2 bards and offers these same power output as the Stage 2, but the difference is in the revising the air intake system, along with the air ducting in order to increase the ram airflow.

    2017 B&B Automobiltechnik MINI Cooper S Countryman

Furthermore, all Stage levelscan be specified with B&B’s own high flow oil cooler system, also optional exclusive sporty spring kit, coil-over suspension pack and B&B high-performance braking system. And let’s not forget the wheels: these are neat B&B 8,5×20-inch B10 light alloys with 225/30ZR20 tires. Sweet, aren’t they?

Long story short, these improvements altogether show how a sweet and beautiful MINI can become a rather menacing beast. But tell me, what do you think? Write down in the comment section below!

What catches the eye are the many small rally-inspired details. For example, look at the speedmeter: there is this famous black and white flag appearing if the driver decides to push the vehicle to its limits and reach speeds above 200km/h. This same flag concept can be seen on some places on the body and some more places in the cabin. And it is freaking cool!

  • AEB system: is it that popular and important as they want us to see it?

2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe New car sales researches revealed what majority of people prefer when it comes to buying a new vehicle. Analyzed by independent researchers, results show that buyers mainly prefer cars with more safety features, but for some reason not everyone is into the Autonomous Emergency Braking. Interesting.

However, good thing is to know that people are heading towards safety, instead of some overall useless hi-tech tweaks, right? However, results show some mixed opinions as it comes to standard safety equipment. Although the first vehicles in the rank have great safety suites, also in the top 3 is the Vauxhall Corsa: a neat vehicle, but with twice as less safety stuff, compared with the leader in the list: the C-Class.

SEE ALSO: Mercedes G500 becomes a stylish icon handcrafted by Carbon Motors

However, one of the most handy and reliable systems, the Autonomous Emergency Braking is available with all of the list with most popular cars. Some brands include it as a part of the standard equipment, others prefer to gear it optionally – with client’s personal preferences.

So, what are people into? Here’s the full list:

    Mercedes-Benz C-Class
AEB is named Collision Prevention Assist Plus and is part of the standard equipment.

    Volkswagen Golf
The good ol’ Golf lineup incorporates the system to almost all of its models as a part of the standard equipment. Fun thing is that VW does not offer AEB as an extra.

    Nissan Qashqai
This one also incorporates the AEB system to almost all vehicles in the lineup, but also offers it as an additional feature.

    Ford Focus
Coming by the name of Active City Stop, the system is fitted to surprisingly low number of vehicle models, but the good news is that Ford team offers it as a standalone feature for reasonable pricing.

    Vauxhall Astra
The trustworthy Astra also appears to sort of not like the AEB: the vehicles, equipped with this system are as low as 34% of the whole range. Good thing is that AEB is optionally available.

    MINI
The system also comes as optional extra and is simply named  Driving Assistant.

    VW Polo
Named City Emergency Braking, the AEB is available only as a part of the optional “ACC” pack.

    Ford Fiesta
The Fiesta also does not incorporate the system as part of the standard pack and offers it as a standalone purchase.

    Vauxhall Mokka
Although popular and reliable, the whole lineup does not feature AEB even as a standard feature.

    Vauxhall Corsa
Just like the Mokka, Corsa lineup tends to not like the AEB: it is not available even as optional feature.

  • 2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge: a menacing beast or a sweet wanna-be?

2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge MINI Cooper John Cooper Works Challenge comes with tons of ambition to set new benchmark to the track-oriented segment. It also tries to be impeccable on the road without sacrificing comfort and smoothness of a traditional city car. So, let’s see what this sweetie has to offer.

The vehicle was created by small team at MINI Plant Oxford in UK in partnership with some race suppliers and engineers. Indeed they added the grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire set and fine-tuned the suspension and the slip differential. Also, there are additional personalization features like exterior color scheme combinations, MINI Accessories and more.

    2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge

Limited to a maximum of 100 units, the exclusive MINI John Cooper Works Challenge features a unique colour combination and graphics, Genuine MINI JCW Pro Accessories, and is available in one fixed specification only. So, let’s waste no more time and hop into the sea of features.

    Drivetrain system and performance

The John Cooper MINI comes with sporty equipment and even sportier power output: the 2.0-liter power unit provides 231hp and 320Nm of torque that together contribute to a rather quick 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint, but this is not the only notable performance feature, right?

    2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge

Mini John Cooper includes enlarged air intakes, improved cooling system and special wheel arch extensions. All these features are topped with John Cooper Works sporty seats and sporty steering wheel. So far so good, right? No.

SEE ALSO: Are you ready for the MINI Challenge? Bilstein is!

When it comes to premium sport vehicles, we immediately think of fine lines, premium feel, incredible design and engineering solutions, but we did not see such within the interior of the new MINI. Don’t get me wrong, the cockpit does not look bad. Not at all, but this is all it has to offer! Not looking bad! The seats can be comfortable and functional, but their appearance does not contribute to the overall sporty and aggressive spirit a sport car should demonstrate. The same is with the central console: it could be functional, but does not make us feel as we are in a premium and refined vehicle. However, let’s move forward.

    2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge

    Additional equipment

The UK-based suspension supplier Nitron provided coilover springs and dampers that are based on the NTR R1 system. As you might know, this system incorporates hand-built quality and titanium components.

    2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge

There are also Quaife automatic torque biasing limited slip differentials that replace the standard equipped ones.

Of course, there are improvements on the braking system. The vehicle is geared with grooved and part-drilled 330mm front discs with four-pot Brembo calipers, paired with exclusive Mintex pads.

    2016 MINI Cooper Works Challenge

To be honest, the specifications and the overall sporty spirit is present, but we still have something in mind. We got used to see the MINI as a sweet and flexible city sweetie and not line some sporty beast, despite MINI team’s efforts and experiments. And with that box-like exterior with stupid face?! No, thanks.

  • Are you ready for the MINI Challenge? Bilstein is!

Bilstein MINI John Cooper Works F56 front viewIt is not a secret (but maybe a surprise) that the MINI models, especially from the John Cooper Works heritage are a motorsport talent. And this has been proven in history many times. In fact, with the landmark win at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo in 1964, the little car has shut the mouths of those unbelieving in its potential.

Believe it or not, Bilstein (yes, the shock-absorbers guys) has been for a long time present in the “Monte history”. Even before the success of the MINI. The manufacturer had already equipped the Mercedes-Benz 220 SE with gas-pressure shock absorbers for the legendary rally in 1960. And back in the days these were still a rather recent high-tech invention! The result: a sensational triple win!

SEE ALSO: Bilstein Builds Captain America’s Car Based on Fiat 500 Cinquone

So why not mixing the MINI with Bilstein? The MINI Challenge in Italy, which has started yesterday, will be the proof for the success of this endeavour. But even more surprising is that this collaboration is not new. The last year, the one-make series ran with technical components from the B16 PSS10 coilover suspension with road approval, fitted to the old MINI model R56!

At the moment, the little guy on spot is the three-door MINI F56 John Cooper Works. Its suspension has also received another serious upgrade: Modular Damper System (MDS) designed by Bilstein exclusively for motorsports. The configuration is the following: 2-way adjustment for the front axle and a 1-way system for the rear axle, each with variable compression and rebound stages. The configuration is also in harmony with the new aerodynamics package which delivers great level of downforce.

We can’t wait to hear about the results. We will keep you posted.

  • Why this MINI John Cooper Works has nothing to do with a regular one?

B&B MINI John Cooper Works rear viewThis MINI John Cooper Works with a regular one because of many reasons, but if we have to sum them up, it all ends at the work of the German tuning specialists at B&B. To make things a little bit clearer, they have developed a several stage modifications which results in fantastic addition of output for the MINI. And to be even more precise, the stock horses of the car jumped from 231 hp to 300 hp, while the Newton meters – from 320 Nm to 465 Nm.

Even more: the top speed was changed from 246 km/h to 280 km/h, while the acceleration time (for the 0-100 km/h sprint) dropped from 6.3 sec to 5.4 sec. How did they make things possible? The answer: with a lot of hard and precise work as well as a precise craftsmanship.

    The Three Stages

B&B MINI John Cooper Works engine

Well, the aforementioned performance uprating was achieved with the help of Stage 3 conversion, which includes in-house made high-performance intercooler, modified intake ducts and manifold, high-flow exhaust downpipe, and a remap of the fuel, ignition and turbocharger boost curves. The high-flow downpipe actually unleashes approximately 15hp.

SEE ALSO: What happens when 272HP aren’t enough? Meet the powerful B&B Audi A4

Given the fact that there is a Stage 3, to one surely occurs that there are two more. By the way, you have to apply them before reaching to the last one. The Stage 1 offers a slight increase in boost pressure and remap of the fuel and ignition curves. As a result, the output was increased to 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The Stage 2 pushes the horses to 286 hp and 430 Nm via the new intake ducts and manifold. The fuel and ignition curves are remapped, and turbo boost increased by 0.25 bar.

    Other Goodies

B&B MINI John Cooper Works side view

Improving the soundtrack of the newly uprated MIN is B7B’s sport exhaust with uprated catalytic converter. In addition, to make everything even more harmonious, the chassis received sport spring set, which lowers the ride height by approximately 30 mm and improves the cars handling and looks. There were also added KW V3 coilover suspension kit, 342 mm vented discs in front part of the new high performance brake system and B9 alloy wheels measuring 18-inch.

  • Manhart Racing Changes the Emblematic MINI John Cooper Works into Something Extraordinary!

Manhart MINI F300 front view Do you know that this year Manhart Racing is celebrating its 30th anniversary? This only means that we are going to see even more exclusive project from the tuner that we are used to. The current one is based on the latest MINI John Cooper Works F56, which is fitted with MINI F300 personalization package.

    Power Upgrade

The best thing about the F300 upgrade is that it concerns every part of the MINI, including its engine and performance. The tuners began with the remapping of the four-cylinder turbocharged motor. They actually changed the fuel, ignition, boosted the software and replaced the standard intercooler with one coming from Wagner.

    SEE ALSO: Meet Manhart’s MHX5 700 Project Based on the X5 M F85

Remus stainless steel sports exhaust was then added, and it includes larger downpipe and valve control, thus minimizing the backpressure and delivering throaty sound. After these modifications, the MINI F56 proudly ‘says’ that it can produce 300 hp (221 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque.

     Manhart MINI F300 Engine

    Exterior

After the more important modifications were done (after all this is a sports variant of the MINI), some other custom elements waited to be added. For instance such are the KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension kit, which has this cool ride height adjustment feature and an adjustable bounce and rebound control. The in-house made carbon-fibre front suspension tower strut brace stiffens up the front-end to reduce torque steer.

Everything mentioned by far is backed up by the gold-painted MANHART 19-inch multispoke alloys fitted with 235/35ZR19 tyres. At last, but not least, the entire exterior was re-painted with British Racing Green and then embellished with a specially designed gold decal set.

    Interior

    Manhart MINI F300 Interior

Moving forward to the interior, the theme in the cabin counts on the luxury rather rather than on motorsport. See the seats as they are covered in the finest anthracite leather and Alcantara and contrasted with gold outline stitching. Their Alcantara inserts feature gold cross-stitching for a harmonious effect. The same approach has been used for the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, while the velour floor mats have been embroidered with Manhart logos.

Wonder what the next 30th anniversary project by Manhart would be? Which car would you like to see tuned?
