The award winning Mercedes-Benz A-Class is now achieving even higher standards thanks to fuel saving numbers it has shown. In particular the fuel savings are of up to 26 percent, emissions as low as 98 g CO2/km, a best-in-class Cd value of 0.27 and all petrol-engine variants complying with the Euro 6 emissions standard.
This basically means that the A-Class sets new benchmarks in efficiency and in addition has a high environmental performance, which was confirmed by the inspectors at the TÜV Süd technical inspection authority. They have given this Mercedes-Benz model the Environmental Certificate in accordance with ISO standard TR 14062.
As a matter of fact, the aforementioned certification is based on a comprehensive ecological life-cycle assessment of the car, documenting every detail of ecological relevance. The life-cycle assessment means that the brand analyzes the environmental compatibility of its models from production through their long years of service to recycling at the end of their lives.
And this is where the A180 BlueEFFICIENCY causes 16 percent (5.7 tons) less CO2 emissions than its predecessor. The energy balance shows a similarly positive picture, with primary energy consumption over the vehicle’s entire life cycle cut by 15 percent in comparison to its predecessor.
The fuel efficiency is due to the BlueEFFICIENCY technology, which combines optimization measures in the area of the powertrain, energy management, aerodynamics, tyres optimization, weight reduction through lightweight construction and information, which encourages the driver to an energy-saving style of driving.
Mercedes-Benzhas created a special video series which will be included in an advertising campaign in order to keep up with the innovative and creative benchmark set by the new A-Class model.
The campaign is called #YOUDRIVE and includes social and media interactions. All the Twitter users will drive the action of a three-part story shown this weekend during the commercial breaks in the X Factor UK.
However, very short teaser footage of the new campaign has just been launched. The story takes the form of a light hearted cat and mouse caper, during which the hero, a young music star played by the Top Boy actor Kane Robinson, is trying to get to a secret gig, with the help of his female accomplice, actress Wendy Glenn. At the same time the authorities are keen to close it down
Several different scenarios have been filmed and all those watching will have the opportunity to vote via Twitter and steer the action as to which route they should take. Each scenario puts a different twist on the caper – filmed on the streets of Lisbon and Porto, Portugal.
The videos were directed by Yann Demange and the Director of Photography for the shoot was Anthony Dod Mantle. The new advert launches on 6th of October during the X Factor UK. The A-Class is on-sale now, with prices starting from £18 945.
The inspiring new design the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class has put great impression over readers of the leading car magazine AUTO BILD. In a poll, in which participated around 100 000 readers, the new progressive model have been voted most attractive car.
But this is not all. The new A-Class got the award for the best car in its segment. In fact, the winners of the AUTO BILD Design Award are traditionally judged only by the readers’ personal likes.
The new Mercedes-Benz model stood out among 136 current models in five categories. The brand also got another first place in this top-ranking automotive beauty contest with the M-Class, which the AUTO BILD readers voted the most attractive contender in the SUV/Vans/All-wheel drive category.
We must admit that the completely and radically redesigned new A-Class opened a totally new chapter in the compact class this year. Moreover, we are sure that it will set new standards for the upcoming new generation of vehicles in its class.
No wonder that the A-Class grabbed so many hearts since its launch. Just look at the dynamic sporting exterior, which is more distinctive than ever and which conveys powerful presence. In addition, it is complemented to perfection by an innovative interior exuding a particularly high-quality feel.
2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is soon going to proudly run through the streets showing off its design, powerful and great efficiency. Orders are already being taken as the prices are announced.
The A-Class is equipped with powerful engines ranging from 80 kW (109 hp) to 155 kW (211 hp). In addition they are also extremely efficient with emissions from just 98 g of CO2/km and have a best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.27.
These Mercedes-Benz vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, Audio 5 USB, electric windows all round, Headlamp Assist and 12-button multifunction steering wheel as a standard. They are offered in three trim lines: “Urban”, “Style” and “AMG Sport” in three design packages – “Night”, “Exclusive” and “AMG Exclusive”.
Other optional features include: Intelligent Light System, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, dashboard finished in ARTICO man-made leather, front sports seats with integrated head restraints and contrasting stitching. This means that all of the AA-Classes can be modified according to the individual taste.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class (2012)
A wide choice of petrol and diesel engines are offered in this Class. They are powerful but yet amazingly efficient. Starting with the first: A 180 CDI CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, will be the first Mercedes-Benz which is going to emit only 98 g of CO2 per kilometer.
Moreover, all engines of the new A-Class include the ECO start/stop function as standard. The engines can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or optionally to the 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission.
The A 250 Sport model will be available with the AMG Sport appointment line as a standard. It includes new diamond grille, exclusive 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a 5-spoke design with 235/40 R 18 tyres all round and painted in high-gloss black with a high-sheen finish, together with red-painted brake callipers.
Isn’t that a looker?! It’s the latest concept-to-be-reality thing from Mercedes-Benz. At the moment it’s called the Concept Style Coupé (CSC) and it looks like the love child of a CLS and an A-Class if they were ever to mate. Sleek and curvy, this fluidic piece of art is to be exhibited next week at the Beijing Motor Show as it makes its world debut. It’s smart as well, no doubt, with Mercedes’ latest turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit, a 4MATIC drive and a set of fancy blinkers…apparently.
Let’s start off with the exterior, shall we? It certainly has the face of an A-class (the latest one) with that dotted grille. Then again, with a length of 4637 mm, it is almost as long as the current CLS (give it or take 300 mm). And that slopey profile is rather unmistakable – it has “four-door coupe” all over it. There’s a glass roof at the top which is only separated from the rear window by a roll-bar-like beam. The 21-inch wheels on the CSC are meant to look like turbines and supposedly, they do channel air to those massive disk brakes. Then there are the headlights – even when they are off, a red glare throws daggers at you in a particularity devilish manner. The indicators resemble a set of LEDs that light up in succession much like the ones you find on an airstrip.
Mercedes-Benz Concept Style Coupe
Inside, things are just as Mercedish – a blend of leather and Alcantra wrap around you with an ergonomic nature. The carbon-trimmed dashboard is meant to represent a wingspan while the air vents on it use a jet engine for inspiration (quite a lot of aircraft themes so far). There’s a light behind each one of them so they tend to change their color, depending on the temperature of the air that’s being thrown at your face – red suggests scorching hot, blue offers Arctic whirlwinds and yellow indicates a mildly breeze (we just like to think so). The neon green lining touch is rather neat as well – it gives you that sporty training shoe feel. Computer buffs will love this as well – the car’s COMAND Online gives you access to the world wide web at all times and that the software (all the apps and interface) is hosted directly at Dimler’s. That way you can get the most current updates “over-the-air” (OTA) through, let’s say, a mobile phone connection.
But enough about silly stuff. Let’s talk numbers and fumes… which aren’t that much. Sure, 211 bhp sound reasonable enough. But we suspect that an engine, normally found in the A-Class, won’t be at it’s best in the CSC (remember that the world wide web is in it?). Still, a 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder top of the range engine (from that family), mated to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission sounds like a nimble setup. It might just be for show, something to put inside this gorgeous body for the time being. When can we expect a production version? Next year, the year after that? We don’t know.
For now, look forward to the Beijing Motor Show which kicks off at the 23th of April where we’ll have that and much more.
Since the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class debuted last month at the International Geneva Motor Show it made a big furor. What we saw in Geneva was that the car was completely redesigned and didn’t even look slightly similar to its predecessor.
The all-new A-Class is going to roll into European market in September this year as we are eagerly waiting to finally see it proudly riding through the streets.
There isn’t much similar to the previous designs of the A-Class; however it is important to mentione that the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is 18 centimeters closer to the ground. The new radical design change reflects the new Mercedes-Benz design philosophy: a two-box design with a distinct character of its own, a sportily emotive exterior and an astounding high-quality feel to the interior.
In fact, no other car in its segment has made such a significant and progressive change. The result is that now the new A-Class bears the typical for Mercedes sculptural shape, character lines, in particular on its sides and the dynamic style.
The exterior of the vehicle is defined by definite edges and tautly drawn surfaces. The constant interplay between concave and convex surfaces is what makes a characteristic play of light, particularly along the sides of the car, which further emphasizes its unique appearance.
As we can easly see, now the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has sportier look, due to its long front and pronounced V-shape, the separate headlamps, the radiator grille with central Mercedes star and double slats to either side of the star, the additional air intakes on the sides. The “dropping line” apparent in the side profile dissipates towards the vehicle’s front end. The design of the headlamps combined with the configuration of the light functions within them, is a crucial element of the new design concept.
The characteristic “flare effect” for the daytime running lamps and indicators is made thank to the arrangement of the light modules and LEDs behind the headlamp cover glass. The “flare” is made up of the feature line within the headlamp, the LED modules for the daytime running lamps and the bulb sets for the indicators. All this gives the car dynamic stance and moreover it completely transforms the design of the A-Class.
Furthermore, the 2012 A-Class is additionally defined by excellent aerodynamics. Firstly, one can see this in the roof, which has smooth surfaces and taut, arcing curve. The silhouette reveals smooth, flowing lines finishing in a flat edge. The roof spoiler, which conveniently hides all the aerials, provides an extra sporty touch and gives structure to the roof assembly. Next, the beltline rises to the rear to create a pronounced wedge-shape. Looked from the side, one can see that the car is distinguished by sensuously molded sculptural side panels and crisp lines. The front
structural edge, above the wing, falls in what is known as a “dropping line” in a gentle arc towards the rear.
All lines definte the new design philosophy applied on the A-Class, and had given it depth and more dynamism.
The tail end is consists of convex-concave surfaces and edges, and the tail lights continue the line of the muscular shoulders back towards the rear. At the same time their horizontal orientation highlights the car’s powerful breadth. The light functions are provided by fiber-optic cables and LED modules. And in addition, the surface finish is a design feature which improves the airflow around the vehicle due to the defined airflow break-away edges in the rear section.
2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class
The interior of the new A-Class is worth to be looked-up more closely. The interior sculpture is completely changed as well. At first, the interior was inspired aircraft design. The instrument panel is divided into an upper part, inspired on a wing profile, and a muscular lower section.
What is more important here is that the interior design of the A-Class represents a big step forward in terms of quality. In addition, all trim elements have been given an electroplated finish, resulting in real metal surfaces with “cool touch” effect. The work has been performed with considerable attention to detail, as well.
Next, the instrument panel has five round vents. The outer rings have a high-quality electroplated finish. The airflow direction is governed by an insert that is reminiscent of an aircraft turbine and reveals a meticulous attention to detail. This too has an electroplated finish in silver-chrome. Furthermore, the free-standing display screen features a black piano-lacquer-look front panel and a flush-fitting silver frame.
How about the instrument cluster? It includes two large round instruments, each with a small dial set within it. The dial needles stand at 6 o’clock when it is not working. In addition, the pointer inlays are in white, although with the sportier design and equipment lines such as Urban and AMG Sport they are in red. The dials on the sporty equipment lines and packages are coloured silver with a chequered flag effect.
Furthermore, the three-spoke steering wheel is now equipped with 12 function buttons and an electroplated bezel.
An extensive range of seat coverings, in terms of material (e.g. leather, fabric, Artico/fabric), color combination and also geometry, provides scope for a broad range of individualization options.
For instance, the sports seats with integrated head restraints are available as an optional extra with all design and equipment lines. An opening between the upper edge of the seat backrest and the head restraint further emphasized the sporty nature of the seats. On the back of the front seats this opening is edged with a frame in silver chrome and, in conjunction with the Light and Sight package, can also feature ambient lighting.
One of the leaders in the automotive world Mercedes-Benz, will make a world debut of its all-new refreshed and remastered 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class at the Geneva Motor (8 to 18 March 2012). The model is so significantly remade that no one could possibly think that this is a previous A-Class. In addition to innovative design, the car now comes with powerful engines ranging from 80 kW (109 hp) to 155 kW (211 hp), and extremely efficient, with emissions from just 99 g/CO2/km. Design and dynamism are characteristics seen at first sight on the new A-Class. It sits up to 18 centimetres closer to the road than its predecessor. Moreover, Mercedes designers have created an emotive exterior with a pronounced sporty flair.
In the A-Class range are also featured new petrol and diesel-powered engines, which will demonste the current state of the art in terms of efficiency. For the first time, a Mercedes-Benz will produce emissions of just 99 g of CO2 per kilometre. First, the petrol engines with a displacement of 1.6 and 2.0 litres, produse from 90 kW (115 hp) in the A 180 and 115 kW (156 hp) in the A 200 through to 155 kW (211 hp) in the A 250. Common to all is the combination of direct injection and exhaust gas turbocharging, a more advanced combustion process and an extended stratification range for lean-burn operation that uses fast-acting injectors for the multiple injection of the fuel as well as on-demand multi-spark ignition. An innovative fearute is the new CAMTRONIC, which in addition will make its world premiere in the 1.6-litre engine. It adjusts the valve lift on the intake side and restricts the amount of fresh mixture used in the partial load range, thus reducing consumption. Secondly, the diesel engines also offer a high level of efficiency and environmental compatibility, thanks to sophisticated injection technology and turbocharging. For instance, the A 180 CDI offers an output of 80 kW (109 hp) and a maximum torque of up to 250 Nm, while the A 200 CDI has a maximum output of 100 kW (136 hp) and torque that rises to 300 Nm. The A 220 CDI has a displacement of 2.2 litres, an output of 125 kW (170 hp) and torque of 350 Nm, delivering absolutely exceptional performance in the A-Class. Another important highlight here is that all of the engines in the new A-Class include the ECO start/stop function as a standard. The engines can be combined either with the new six-speed manual transmission or, as an option, with the 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.
2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class
Furthermore, the dynamism promised by the design and drive system is realised by the suspension. A noticeably lower centre of gravity and a new 4-link rear axle provide the basis for this; and would also make the installation of 4MATIC all-wheel drive possible. What is more important here is that the electromechanical steering in the A-Class has been completely redesigned, so that the electric motor for the power assistance now sits directly on the steering gear in the form of a compact and extremely precise Dual Pinion EPS.
The A-Class is the only vehicle in its class which features the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system. The latter gives a visual and acoustic warning to alert a possibly distracted driver to identified obstacles, and prepares Brake Assist for the most precise braking response possible. Another protection system is the PRE-SAFE® one, which is preventive occupant protection system. It includes reversible belt tensioning, the closing of side windows and sliding sunroof in case of critical lateral dynamics and adjustment of the fully electric front passenger seat with memory function to an ideal position for maximum effectiveness of the restraint systems. Other assistance systems which can be found in the newe A-Class are: ATTENTION ASSIST, Brake HOLD function, Hill-Start Assist, DISTRONIC PLUS, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Assist, Active Parking Assist, LINGUATRONIC, Reversing camera.
The absolutely new exterior design of the A-Class range includes typical features of the long, sporty front with a pronounced V-shape. It also has separate headlamps, radiator grille with central Mercedes star and double slats to either side of the star, additional air intakes on the sides. The design of the headlamps in combination with the configuration of the light functions within them is a key element of the design concept. Furthermore, the light modules and LEDs behind the headlamp cover glass have been arranged in such a way as to create the characteristic “flare effect” for the daytime running lamps and indicators.
2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Interior
How about the interior? Of course, it includes only high quality premium interior, which aims to deliver more luxury. In addition, the high-quality feel and sportiness of the car are achieved through electroplated finish, resulting in real metal surfaces with “cool touch” effect. The work has been executed with considerable care and attention to detail, so that they appear to have been moulded in one piece. The instrument panel is divided into a wing profile-type upper section and a lower section. It also incorporates five round vents, the outer rings of which have a high-quality electroplated finish. Furthermore, an aextensive range of seat coverings has been used. A wide range of materials, for example leather, fabric, Artico/fabric with a combination of a specific, provides scope for a broad range of individualisation options. At last, there is a choice of design and equipment lines that have been put together with the requirements of customers in mind. Namely, they are: “Urban”, “Style” and “AMG Sport”.
Mercedes-Benz will fully integrate Apple iPhone into their vehicles.
