  • Geneva to See the Birth of Limited Production McLaren P1 GTR

McLaren P1 GTR will premiere alongside the recently announced McLaren 675LT at the Geneva Motor Show on 3rd of March. The car will be dressed in a special livery inspired by iconic McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #06R, making it a very special limited edition. The new design of the supercar pays tribute to the historic yellow and green #06R F1 GTR which was one of the five F1 GTRs that dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans 20 years ago.

There will be only minor modifications to the Design Concept presented just six months ago. The limited edition model will be available to those who will participate in the P1 GTR Driver Programme. The latter will start at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain later this year.

Some of the enhancements after extensive tests and continuous development optimize aerodynamic performance and cooling. For instance, the front track is 80mm wider than the road-going P1 and sits 50mm closer to the ground. In addition, it features more aggressive front splitter, 19-inch motorsport alloy wheels and slick Pirelli tyres.

The lightweight windscreen of the road car has been retained; in contrast to the side windows are which are made of polycarbonate. On driver’s side there is a sliding ‘ticket window. On the roof the glass has been replaced by carbon fibre panels, thus delivering weight savings of 50kg.

There are some significant modifications to the IPAS powertrain made. The heart that beats in this McLaren is the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with an enhanced lightweight electric motor. Combined, these powerplants generate 1,000 hp (735 kW), from which 800 hp is produced by the petrol engine and 200 hp by the electric motor.

It is also important to mention that the McLaren P1 GTR joins the road-going McLaren P1 in the Ultimate Series. The company has established a three tier naming structure of Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series.

The Sports Series will make its world debut at the New York International Auto Show in April. The Super Series that comprise of 650S, 625C and 675LT will premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.

  • Production McLaren P1 GTR Debuts in Geneva [VIDEO]

We had a glimpse of the interior of 2016 McLaren P1 GTR, and it is now time for the motorsport oriented company to show us little more. With the news that a production-intended P1 GTR is coming to Geneva, McLaren has also revealed pictures from the testing at global circuits in Europe and the Middle East. There is also a video showing the latest stages in the development programme of the car, which is featured below.

The launch of the bespoke Driver Programme happens ahead of the start of production car later this year. As testing continues P1 looks like one of the fastest McLarens that wears the famous ‘speed mark’.

Weight-saving measures have been significant here. Combined with the track-optimisation of the petrol-electric powertrain, the new car is set to boast a power-to-weight ratio in excess of 10 percent (when compared to the road-going model). This means more than 700 PS per tonne!

The team at McLaren did extensive work to achieve this result. Thanks to the motorsport-derived technology and expertise, the track-only model has already covered thousands of kilometres of extreme testing.

The result: the tests pushed the performance of the car to its limits! And also revealed the need to further enhance cooling and aerodynamics over the design concept previewed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last summer.

This dedicated development programme is continuing at the moment and will do so over the coming months. It aims to additionally tune the performance, aerodynamics, driving dynamics and handling balance. In the forthcoming weeks, new drivers will join the Driver Programme. They will test the car at some of the most iconic racing circuits.

  • McLaren to Call its next Sports Series Black Swan?

McLaren-Sports-Series-THUMBNo, don’t worry. There is absolutely no chance for McLaren to call its new vehicle Black Swan. Instead, it will be probably dubbed McLaren P13 Sports Series, and more importantly, the company has just officially released a first teaser image of the front of the upcoming racing machine. “Black swan moments” is only a metaphor, which means that something is going against ordinary belief and expectations.

And this is what we can expect from the future P13. From the image we see that the vehicle is currently undergoing testing. Nevertheless, the teaser image above does not show much of the car. In fact, it shows it partially and covered with camouflage.

Although it somewhat resembles a Ferrari, the car definitely looks like a contemporary McLaren. You can see the thin LED headlights as well as ten-spoke alloy wheels. Wing mirrors are also there and they are mounted to the doors, and this is what is similar between the P13 and P1, and different between the first and the 650S model.

This car is being developed and released into production before the Acura NSX makes an official appearance. This means that the McLaren will definitely offer a better car Acura. In addition, McLaren Sports Series is set to take on the admirers of the Audi R8 or the Porsche 911 GT3.

P13 will be based on a carbon fiber monocoque and will be powered by a V8 engine. The rumors say that the unit will be a modified 3.8-liter twin-turbo, and just like the P1 it will be coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Last thing to mention is that the car will be a two-seater.

  • McLaren P1: The Air-Slicer

As they say in the video; “For years cars have been basically the same but this really isn’t. It’s a game-changer, a genuinely new chapter in the history of motoring.” This is McLaren P1. It is probably the most mind-blowingly powerful superhero among supercars. It is super economical and fast. Super-fast. In fact, extremely fast. Did I say it was fast? I probably used too many “supers” but one is just not enough when it comes to describing this hybrid monster.Jeremy Clarkson takes this air-ripping hypercar to Belgium for a super (yes, I did it again) fast lap around the Spa, the longest F1 motor-racing circuit. There he tests the ultimate power of McLaren P1 which excellence springs from the outside as well as from the inside. The glossy black (in this case) body is made from the finest panels which are five in total. The windows’ glass is thick only 3 and a half mm. which is 1 and a half mm. thinner than the glass used for every other normal car. I will point it out again. NORMAL car. The wheels are made from military-grade aluminium and the carbon ceramic brake disks are infused with silicon carbide. What is more, the electric motor and the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine seem to work in a symbiosis and give a combined output of 903 bhp. As Clarkson says in Top Gear magazine; “Full throttle in a P1 is like Christmas. It’s something that you can only use once a year. And even then only briefly, because it actually hurts. When this car accelerates, it beats you up. It hurts your face. It’s like Christmas in other ways too. It causes arguments with your loved ones. And it’s great.”McLaren P1 is indeed heroically good car partially because it looks like something from some big-budget sci-fi movie and partially because it is so cleverly crafted and made. Observing how it simply slices the air into pieces it is not difficult to notice how this rocket-like car does not move. It rather, slides. On the road and on one’s senses too.To see the full performance, click the following link.httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL_eIZjiLUk

  • McLaren P1 GTR Design Concept with European Debut

McLaren-P1-GTR-THUMBMcLaren P1 GTR design concept debuted in Europe, specifically at this weekend’s Chantilly Arts & Elegance concours, after it had been unveiled at the Pebble Beach automotive weekend last month. Currently, the development programme for the McLaren P1 GTR continues at pace. McLaren says that this vehicle will be the most track-tailored and powerful model produced by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) up to date.

There are various updates done on the car. Take for instances the power uprate, with an increase in power to 1,000 horsepower. The prototype has been camouflaged and tests race-proven slick tyres with a unique exhaust system. The next stage in the development of the GTR P1 will be the optimization of the aerodynamic performance. The testing will continue even during the winter.

Alongside the McLaren P1 GTR design concept, the company has premiered a unique example of the McLaren 650S. The 650S Coupé has been produced by MSO and commissioned by the McLaren Paris retailer. It is a visually striking example of the mid-engined supercar.

The body of the vehicle has been painted in gleaming Pearl White metallic finish. The same color extends throughout the exterior, including the front splitter, door blades and side intakes. The contrast is made via details such as the roof, lightweight alloy wheels and mirror casings which all have been finished in gloss black.

Furthermore, the body-coloured front bumper and MSO door blades enhance the airflow and optimize the aerodynamic efficiency. In addition, the rear of the car is fitted with an aggressive carbon fibre diffuser which is in contrast to the crisp paintwork. Additional contrast is achieved with a set of five-spoke lightweight forged 650S alloy wheels finished in gloss black.

The interior of this unique 650S is trimmed with lightweight black Alcantara and contrasting orange stitching throughout. Extensive use of carbon fibre can be seen inside as well as a gloss black finish applied to the air vents, instrument cluster and switches on the Active Dynamics Panel.

  • McLaren Unveils P1 GTR Design Concept at Pebble Beach

McLaren-P1-GTR-THUMBMcLaren P1 GTR design concept was shown for the first time during a private event at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. The racing concept is a preview to the final mode. The latter has just entered the next step of development. The P1 GTR will be the most track-focused and powerful model produced by MSO (McLaren Special Operations). In fact, the goal of MSO is to create the best driver’s car in the world on track. The car has enhanced aerodynamics, race-proven slick Pirelli tyres, a fixed ride height, increased power delivery from the IPAS powertrain and large, fixed rear wing and an ERS-style push-to-pass system.

The GTR is based on the McLaren P1 road car, however it is optimized in terms of aerodynamics, features a ‘shrink-wrapped’ body shape, superior handling and enhanced driver engagement on track for maximum performance. Precisely, the front end of the vehicle has been increased by 80 mm and includes more aggressive GT-style front splitter.

The carbon fibre MonoCage chassis is positioned behind the front wheels. It channels the air from around the wheel well. There is also an extra aerodynamic blade, which is mounted behind the wheelarch. It cleans the air from the front tyres. When one looks at the side of McLaren P1 GTR, one sees that it is lower than the road car. This was achieved via the race-prepared suspension with a fixed ride height.

The snorkel air intake is still present within the roof structure of the carbon fibre MonoCage chassis. Another difference is made in the wing mirrors, which are now positioned to the A pillars. In addition, the trailing edge of the door-mounted radiator channels has been extended to draw more air down through the cavity within the door, and into the engine to aid cooling.

P1 GTR runs on lightweight 19-inch motorsport alloy wheels. At the back of the car there is large, twin-element wing which is positioned on the carbon fibre pylons. The hydraulically operated Drag Reduction System (DRS) boosts acceleration performance, and increases levels of downforce.

Below the rear wing there is a centrally mounted exhaust with brand new design and made from inconel and titanium alloy. This system optimizes the output 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine, which now delivers up to 1,000 horsepower (735 kW). The design concept which was shown at Pebble Beach event wears a livery inspired by the original F1 McLaren with chassis number 01R.
