  • Kia cee’d Lineup Receives Some New Engines

Kia cee'dKia’s Cee’d lineup has become the first range to be geared with bran’s latest and greatest engines that have an overall better efficiency with 25% and reduced CO2 emissions. There are a total of three turbocharged units: two petrol and one diesel powerplant. This is an upgrade that comes and with some nice visual changes. For example, the five-door cee’d, the two-door pro_cee’d and the cee’d Sportswagon will now come with restyled body styles.

    The 1.0-litre ecoTurbo petrol engines

The latest three-cylinder direct-injection T-GDi units were announced at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The engines are especially designed to reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. These sweeties provide between 98 and 118 hp, depending on the version. And both units develop a total of 172 Nm of torque over a range from 1, 500 to 4,000 rpm which ensures increased and better driving flexibility. The end result is an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than 12.5 seconds and a top speed of 114 mph (205 km/h).

    Kia cee'd

The key targets were better response, highly-efficient combustion and sweet torque levels across a wide portion of rev band. The ecoTurbo engines also work on lower temperatures and with cleaner emissions which allows them to operate more effectively. Now the main thermostat controls the flow of coolant to the cylinder, while the engine block thermostat shuts off coolant flow above 105 degrees to reduce friction and improve efficiency.

    The 1.6-litre CRDi engine

All three cee’d body shapes are also available with a fresh 1.6-liter CRDi turbodiesel unit. This guy offers increased power, from 126 to 134 hp (92 to 98 kW) and greater torque of 280 Nm in manual version and 300 Nm with the new 7-DCT transmission. It looks like the greatest gains are achieved with the 7-DCT gearbox installed. And compared to the previous model, the emissions are lowered with almost 25% from 145 g/km to 109 with economy rates of 67.3 mpg.

    Kia cee'd

This guy accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) for 9.5 seconds and has a top speed of 205 km/h (114 mph) and for the automatic gearbox these stats are 9.8 seconds and 122 mph. In fact, the 7-speed DCT gearbox was created t deliver a maximum torque of 300 Nm and it is expected to be used in wide variety of models n the recent years. This system offers the smoothness and responsiveness of a manual gearbox if the driver decides to take control over it.

Furthermore, Kia vehicles, geared with the new engines will also offer extended warranty: 100,000 miles, including labour, subject to terms and conditions.

  • Comparing the very best family touring and estate cars

Growing families that need a little more room than a standard hatchback or saloon will usually turn their attention to estate and touring cars. Along with a bigger boot, estate and touring car owners still benefit from impressive styling, great refinement and plenty of equipment.

In addition, running costs are much cheaper than bigger MPVs and crossovers. Simply by adding some roof bars on top, from Tesco or other retailers, the same functionality can be enjoyed.

But what are the very best family touring and estate cars currently available? Here’s a quick comparison.

    BMW 5 Series Touring

Possibly the best estate car around, the BMW 5 Series Touring ticks all the right boxes. The build quality is second to none, so you won’t have to deal with many surprise breakdowns. At the same time, owners are treated to a powerful yet controlled drive behind the wheel.

Self-levelling rear suspension allows you to transport heavy loads with the greatest of ease, while the ample safety and security kit means passengers will always stay free from harm.

    Ford Focus Estate

If the 5 Series Touring is too expensive, consider the Ford Focus Estate instead. Not only does this option handle just as well as the BMW, it also boasts a number of powerful yet economical engines.

Space and practicality are also best in class, while all versions come with air conditioning, a digital radio, and Bluetooth.

    Audi A6 Avant

Going back to the executive market, the Audi A6 Avant provides stiff competition for the BMW 5 Series. Handling isn’t quite as sharp but the beautiful cabin is a thoroughly pleasant place to be.

You won’t need to spend much on additional extras either, as nearly every piece of equipment you could want is included as standard. Competitive running costs and strong engine performance only add to the Audi A6 Avant’s strong points.

    Kia Cee’d Sportswagon

Budget-conscious buyers that don’t want to break the bank with a purchase should look no further than the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon. With lots of space, a high quality cabin, and an abundance of equipment, you can’t go far wrong.

It is probably a bit noisier than the Ford Focus Estate and won’t deliver an equally impressive drive, but if value for money is your key concern, pick the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon.

    Verdict

Personal preference in terms of handling and equipment is the only way to separate top of the range estate cars like the BMW 5 Series Touring and Audi A6 Avant. However, if your budget doesn’t stretch to these options, there are some commendable alternatives available.

The Ford Focus might not be as refined, but it can’t be beaten when it comes to space and practicality. And for the ultimate in cost-effective motoring, try the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon for size.

This is what I call a well-built car.

In fact, 2016 Sorento CUV sets even higher standards with its refreshments and premium amenities. The car itself comes with an All-Wheel Drive system and up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. The latest family member comes with three engine choices, that include the 2.4-Liter turbo-charged inline-four, a completely refreshed 2.0 turbo powerplant, that delivers 240 horsepower (176 kW) and the tough guy: 3.3-Liter V6, that comes with power output, measured at 290 hp (213 kW). And as every modern car, the 2016 Sorento brings an incredible set of technology tweaks, that include the Surround View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning.
