  • Oettinger Volkswagen Golf R – 400HP and 500Nm [video]

Oettinger has presented their latest tuning program for the ultra-hot hatchback Volkswagen Golf R. It comes with a lot of styling and performance upgrades and an impressive power boost.

The 2.0 liter four-cylinder TFSI engine is equipped with bigger turbocharger and improved ECU. The result is epic – 400HP (294 kW) and 500Nm (369 lb-ft) – an increase of 100HP and 120Nm. 0-100 km/h in under 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph) – electronically limited. The company offers softer versions with 360 (264 kW) or 380HP (279 kW).

Oettinger 2014 Volkswagen Golf R comes with a new front spoiler, a pair of modified side skirts and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. There is also a big brake system, a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system and sets of 19” or 20” alloy wheels fitted with ultra-low profile tires.

  • Volkswagen Golf R 400 – Even More Horsepower!

Volkswagen Golf R 400 is expected to have even more power in its production version. Of course, it won’t reach 450 or 500HP, but we expect an increase of around 20 or 30HP. If, this happens, the new Golf VII R 400 will be the most powerful turbocharged car in the world (HP / liter).

For now, the most powerful production turbocharged car is Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine with 360HP (265 kW) – a specific output of 180HP / litre.Volkswagen Golf VII R 400 Concept was revealed at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. It comes with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 400HP (294 kW) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

The engine is connected to a 6-speed DSG transmission sending the power to 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). The reason we believe that the Golf R 400 will have more power is that the Volkswagen’s head of research and development Heinz-Jakob Neusser said at the Vienna engine symposium in Austria – “The new Golf R 400 could make more than 400 horsepower“.

The uprated engine comes with a number of modifications including a newly developed turbocharger with a higher maximum charge pressure and reinforced crankcase. A water-cooled exhaust gas feed to the turbocharger integrated in the cylinder head helps to reduce full-load fuel consumption, while variable valve control with dual camshaft adjustment enhances the economy and performance.

The ultra-hot hatchback also has a number of improvements including performance tires and big brake system. The suspension is also revised in order to handle all that power.

  • Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept Car [sketch]

Volkswagen has published several design sketches of the Golf R 400 Concept Car. The ultra-hot hatchback will make its official premiere at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show on April 19th. As you may suggest, it will boast extreme power and aggressive exterior.

The exterior of Golf R400 Concept comes with new front and rear bumpers, flared wheelarches, uprated wheels and tires. The interior is also reworked and includes motorsport shell seats with integral head restraints and belt openings.

The flared wheelarches are deliberately reminiscent of those on the 1988 Rallye Golf G60, and most of the concept is painted in ‘Silver Flake’ metallic, in contrast to the gloss black roof and carbon door mirror caps.

Lemon Yellow highlights on the outside include the horizontal stripe across the grille, which, like the chrome strip on the Golf R, continues into the bi-xenon headlights, while the interior stitching is also ‘Lemon Yellow’.

    The four-wheel drive, DSG-equipped Golf R 400 will accelerate 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and the top speed will be 280 km/h (174 mph).

No words about production, but Golf R 4000 will be definitely spectacular.

  • US-Spec Volkswagen Golf R at NAIAS

2015-Volkswagen-Golf-R-mediumSo, the NAIAS draws near and so do the good news. In our case, the latest Volkswagen Golf R: it’s coming to the US market. There will be a preview at the show, but the actual sales won’t happen until 2015. What’s also interesting is that this US-spec R will be a tiny bit underpowered than its European counterpart.

Still, it will be the most powerful Golf on the market, brandishing 290 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. The source of that power is a GTI-sourced TSI 2.0 engine. However, in order to make it meet the needs of the R, engineers had to tweak quite a few bits. the cylinder head (together with exhaust valves, valve seats, and springs), pistons, high-pressure injection system, and turbocharger have all been modified or completely redesigned. As a result, the latest flagship Golf will be the most powerful to date with 34 hp more than the previous 2013 model. Volkswagen also hail the TSI in it as one of the most powerful four-cylinder engines in the world (“one of the” being key here).

Mated to a manual six speed gear, it can propell the Golf R to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.3 seconds. Go for the DSG dual-clutch automatic and that number drops to 4.9 seconds. The same ratio is true for the combined fuel consumption. 33 mpg (manual) and 28 mpg (DSG).

The power transferred from the engine to the wheels goes through Volkswagen’s 4MOTION permanent all-wheel-drive system. Apparently not so permanent these days since a clever Haldex 5 coupling unit uses an electro-hydraulic oil pump to continuously alter the torque distribution. Under relatively light loads, the R can go all day with all the power going to the front wheels. When necessary, 100 percent of the torque can also be directed to the rear wheels. Flamboyant cornering should cause no sweats thanks to an XDS+ cross differential lock operates on both axles. The bravest of the brave can even completely switch off the electronic stability control, thus indulging in the car’s purest mode of driving.

An extra option that can come along with the R is the DCC dynamic chassis control – a state of the art software-operated system that has us confused with its many modes and settings. The gist of it, though, is the independent regulation of the damper rebound and compression on each wheel. The process is fast, adaptive and rather autonomous.

In terms of visuals, you will recognize a Golf R – granted you miss the R badges – by it’s lower stance (0.8 inches lower than any other regular golf and 0.2 inches lower than the GTI). The brake disks are also quite noticeable at a diameter of 13.4 inches at the front and 12.2-inches at the rear wheels. Distinctive body parts: the bumpers, side skirts, the rear diffuser, and two dual exhaust tips in chrome. The headlights (Bi-Xenon) get complemented by “U”-designed LED daytime running lights whatever that means. 18-inch “Cadiz” aluminum-alloy wheels shod with 225/40 tires complete the picture.

  • Volkswagen Golf R Celebrates World Premiere In Frankfurt

2014 Volkswagen Golf R is the most powerful Golf in the range and now it is ready to celebrate its world premiere at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The emblematic Volkswagen model has distinctive design cues which emphasize its sporty character.

The Golf R was especially developed to deliver dynamic performance. It is powered by a newly configured 296 horsepower (198 kW) TSI engine. This makes it with 30 horsepower more powerful; however it is 18 per cent more fuel-efficient than the previous engine.

The maximum torque here was enhanced by 22 pound feet to 380 Nm (280 lb-ft.). Thanks to its sporty characteristics the new model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

In order to achieve these outputs, the engine went through a motorsports development. The power of the engine is transmitted to the road via a manual gearbox or a dual-clutch DSG® automatic transmission.

In addition, the new 4MOTION® all-wheel drive system is what will deliver optimal traction in any conditions of the track. Standard vehicle specifications include the variable-ratio “progressive” steering, Bi-Xenon headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/40 tyres.

Furthermore, the car also includes revised styling which additionally emphasizes its sporty character. The design elements which are responsible for this are the distinctive air intakes, specially designed bumpers and side sills, and the dual-branch exhaust system with four chrome tailpipes.

Volkswagen Golf R will be launched on the market by the end of the year.
