  • Genesis reveals 2023 G90 U.S. pricing

    2023 Genesis G90 - Front Angle

Today, Genesis announced U.S. pricing for its upcoming flagship sedan, the 2023 G90. Starting from an MSRP of $88,400, G90 represents the ultimate expression of the brand’s design, bringing the latest technologies and comfort amenities to the Genesis lineup.

“We are pleased to introduce our 2023 G90 flagship sedan to U.S. customers this month,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “With its advanced technologies, leading safety features, and top-class comfort amenities, G90 puts customers at the center of a new refined driving experience.”

At its starting MSRP of $88,400, the 2023 G90 comes comprehensively equipped with the brand’s entire Highway Driving Assist suite of safety and driver assistance features. It also brings Digital Key 2 to the G90 lineup for the first time. Using sensors positioned around the vehicle, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) allows drivers to automatically unlock their vehicle as they approach, using only their compatible Apple iPhone, Apple Watch or Samsung phone. The Digital Keys are paired using Apple Wallet and Samsung Pass. The vehicle intelligently recognizes the driver and automatically authenticates them, loading their customized vehicle preferences. Genesis Digital Key 2 also allows the vehicle owner to securely share keys with others. For example, a driver with an Apple device may share their key with another via iMessage, and also limit access to the vehicle with the click of a button.

G90 also brings Mood Curator, an all-new feature, to the Genesis lineup for the first time. Mood Curator enables integrated control of features like ambient lighting, the sound system, the fragrance system, massage seats, and electric curtains, to create an ambient environment that further enhances the passenger experience. The car offers four different mood modes, each of which can be customized for a high level of personalization.

In its second configuration at an MSRP of $98,700, G90 brings a host of available new features to the Genesis lineup, elevating the driving experience. Advanced technologies including Multi-Chamber Air Suspension and Rear Wheel Steering offer a comfortable and quiet ride, complemented by the Easy Close Power Doors and rear-passenger massage seats that complete the serene cabin.

Virtual Venues Live is a virtual, 3D-surround sound function, only available in G90. It recreates the sound characteristics of spaces that are optimized for certain types of music featuring settings such as Boston Symphony Hall, and delivers on that sound with an impressive 26-speaker Bang & Olufsen® audio system. Virtual Venues Live monitors the interior through an in-car microphone and simultaneously creates signals that reproduce the sound field characteristics of the selected space. Then, the system minimizes and stabilizes in-car noise according to the speed of the vehicle while delivering audio through its 26 speakers.

Last week, Genesis Motor America announced the continuation of its Priority One program, now available for the upcoming 2023 G90. Priority One members will be contacted and may submit a $1,000 refundable deposit to secure their place among the first to purchase the new 2023 G90. The program delivers a personalized shopping experience curated by a dedicated concierge agent. Priority One members will receive updates throughout the process and will ultimately be connected with their Genesis retailer of choice.

  • Genesis X Speedium Coupe at EV-focused event

2022 Genesis X Speedium Coupe Concept - Front Angle

Today, Genesis premiered the Genesis X Speedium Coupe at Genesis House New York, a cultural space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The concept car incorporates Genesis’ DNA, while looking ahead to the next wave of EVs and highlighting Genesis’ future as a luxury electric vehicle brand.

The brand also announced plans for U.S. production of its upcoming Electrified GV70 SUV at its manufacturing facility in Montgomery, Ala. Production is set to start in December.

In a series of electrification-focused announcements, the brand also revealed its GV60 Priority One program for U.S. consumers.

Envisioning a new styling convention for the future

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe was born out of a “freestyle” design exercise based on the Genesis X Concept.  Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis Chief Creative Officer and 2022 World Car Person of the Year led the initiative. It embodies the timeless Genesis’ design philosophy, Athletic Elegance, in an even more progressive way.

The name Speedium was inspired by the Korean racetrack in the city of Inje and the passion for motorsport it inspired in Genesis designers. The name also encapsulates Genesis’ belief that the emotional value of driving will remain strong in the era of electrification. The addition of the word “coupe” further accentuates the enjoyment of driving through aesthetic designs.

Genesis followed the principle of reductive design, or “less is more,” for the concept car. The Genesis X Speedium Coupe stands out for its restrained elegance, clean lines, and subtle curves.

The model challenges the status quo of a defined car type. It is not a conventional concept car that previews plans for the production lineup.

“This car is an open-door moment in Genesis’ journey towards our future EV design,” said Luc Donckerwolke, chief creative officer of Genesis. “This isn’t a show car — it’s a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.”

On the front of the vehicle, Genesis’ signature Two Lines lamps have evolved into a full-width element that encompasses the shape of the crest resembling the Genesis Crest Grille. It was designed to carry the brand signature of the wing face for the electrification era by integrating the daytime running lamps with the low beam and high beam together. It carries an EV face that symbolizes Genesis’ transformation towards becoming an all-electric car brand with a six-model lineup by 2030.

From an overhead perspective, the hourglass silhouette highlights the car’s passion and character. The curvaceous and sensuous form accentuates the wheel arches creating muscular presence.

Viewed from the side, the Parabolic Line extending from the front to the rear of the car maintains a certain tension in the design as a classic car would. The deliberate “anti-wedge” design culminates in a streamlined look that exudes understated elegance.

Meanwhile, an elliptical tail balances out the look for a visually engaging tension between convex and concave surfaces in the rear. The V-shaped brake lights interrupt the circular shape by producing the striking contrast that is one of the hallmarks of a Genesis vehicle.

“We are giving each design element space to breathe,” said Donckerwolke. “It’s not about making the design elements compete with each other, but about orchestrating the elements so that they complement and respect one another.”

The concept’s metallic emerald green shade is referred to as “Inje Green.” As expected of a car that was inspired by a Korean racetrack, the color encompasses the mountainous landscape where the track is located, completing the image of a classic car that embodies dynamism, speed, and timeless elegance.

    Genesis Priority One

Genesis has shown significant growth in the U.S. market, setting monthly sales records for the past 16 months. The brand recorded 11,723 sales in Q1 2022, the largest quarterly sales achievement since its foray into the U.S. market in 2016.

Starting today, clients in select U.S. markets may enroll in Priority One, a program designed to curate a personalized purchase experience for GV60, the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle. By visiting genesis.com and providing their contact information and $500 refundable deposit, a Genesis Concierge will simplify the process and match clients with a qualified retailer.

“We are pleased to bring the highly-anticipated first Genesis EV to market in the U.S. with GV60,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “With Genesis Priority One, we are renewing our promise to our clients to provide a purchase experience tailored to them.”

Genesis Priority One will be available at launch in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York for a limited time while quantities last.

Production Plans for the Electrified GV70

Genesis announced that the Electrified Genesis GV70 will be its first vehicle produced in the U.S. at its manufacturing facility in Montgomery, Ala. Production is expected to begin in December 2022 with the goal of strengthening Genesis’ EV market position in the region and continuing its commitment to electrification.

“We are pleased to bring Genesis production to the United States for the first time,” said José Muñoz, president & CEO of Genesis Motor North America. “The GV70 SUV has won the hearts and minds of American consumers and industry experts alike. We are proud to begin offering consumers the new electrified model, built right here in America.”

    About Genesis House

Genesis House New York opened in November 2021 as the brand’s base in the U.S. It’s more than just a showroom — it’s a cultural oasis in the heart of the city. Measuring over an acre of floorspace (over 46,000 square feet) and consisting of three floors, it carries forward the bold and innovative spirit of the brand by welcoming guests in a gracious manner that is deeply rooted in Korean culture.

The announcements took place during a press-only event at the Cellar Stage — a basement space outfitted with floor-to-ceiling LED-lit staging and state-of-the art audio-visual technology. Genesis holds numerous events at the Cellar Stage in collaboration with artists in the local community.

The first floor is an exhibition space where guests can experience the Genesis vehicle lineup, both existing models and concept cars that express the brand’s future vision. The architects used tessellated mirrors to beautifully set off the cars on display, and curators are on hand to provide detailed explanations. The curator service at Genesis House is provided in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, and Korean, among other languages.

On the second floor, guests can enjoy a Korean cultural experience in the library, the Tea Pavilion, Genesis House Restaurant and the Terrace Garden.

Genesis House Restaurant, established in collaboration with Onjium — a Michelin-starred restaurant and traditional cultural research center in Seoul — offers a creative and elegant gastronomic experience that harkens back to the Korean Noble class cuisine that took inspirations from what Joseon-era royalty once enjoyed in their palaces.

At the event, the Genesis House Restaurant unveiled its new Spring menu, curated by Onjium.

The 9,493-square-foot Terrace Garden, located outside on the second floor, overlooks Hudson Yards, the Hudson River, and the High Line. Reminiscent of a courtyard outside a “hanok,” or traditional Korean house, it is surrounded by low walls and an alley, serving as a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.

Building upon the success of Genesis House New York, the brand is exploring future plans to open branded cultural spaces in other regions.

    Genesis Gives

To mark the occasion and give back to the local New York community, Genesis presented a $50,000 donation to Girls Who Code, an organization whose mission is to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Girls Who Code is building the largest pipeline of future female engineers in the world. In nine years, they have reached more than 450,000 girls globally.

This charitable contribution marks the continuation of Genesis Gives, a new initiative that supports STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) education, sports, and athletics programming for youth. Genesis Gives has contributed more than $300,000 to causes across the United States since its launch in November 2021.

  • Genesis unveils G90 exterior images

    2023 Genesis G90 - Front Angle

Genesis has officially revealed exterior images of G90, the latest version of the brand’s flagship sedan.

G90 follows the brand’s naming scheme, combining the letter ‘G’ for Genesis and the number ‘90’ indicating that it is the brand’s flagship.

G90’s appearance is the most elegant interpretation of the brand’s design philosophy of Athletic Elegance yet, showcasing that it is a flagship capable of providing truly elevated experiences.

The model’s front fascia consists of a new Crest Grille and sleek Two-Line lamps that resembles the brand’s emblem. The Crest Grille takes G90’s look to the next level with its Layered Architecture finish, which is comprised of two G-Matrix patterns layered on top of one another to create a three-dimensional effect.

The headlamps, located on both sides of the grille, feature the thinnest Two-Line design lamps ever created by Genesis. This was achieved by intercrossing the lens of the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) with low beam powered by MLA technology, ensuring the headlamps’ thin lines.

G90’s status as a best-in-class sedan is further cemented with its Clamshell Hood, a single panel that combines the hood and fenders in order to eliminate panel gaps and create a sleek impression. This sleekness is also embodied in the Guilloché pattern-applied emblem, which is nearly eighty percent thinner than seen on previous emblems.

Harmony of its Parabolic Line and Daylight Opening (DLO) to the side further evoke the impression of an authentic sedan.

When viewed from the side, the Parabolic Line design starts from the hood and flows along the bottom of the window to the trunk in a seamless line. The vehicle’s refined and voluminous body has been further enhanced with the Athletic Power Lines on the fenders around the wheels, projecting power and dynamism.

The DLOs that surround the first and second-row seat windows are designed in harmony with its thick C-pillars. This offers second-row passengers both an open atmosphere and privacy at the same time, ultimately coming together to complete the model’s image as a best-in-class sedan.

The elegant proportions of the wide rear grant the model a strong and well-balanced image. The Two-Line rear combination lamps – key elements of the Genesis design language – are elongated along the trunk, with Genesis’ lettering emblem placed between them.

To draw focus to the iconic Genesis design elements on the upper rear part of the vehicle, functional elements, such as the license plate, various sensors, and the reverse lights, have been placed toward the bottom to ensure that the rear offers a clean look.

Additionally, the Parabolic Line formed by the DLOs that surround the windows and the B-pillar are finished in chrome, allowing the long-wheelbase model’s side profile to make even more of an impression. The model also has exclusive front and rear bumper designs that feature chrome decorations on its rims for enhanced elegance and dynamism.

“G90 will redefine the flagship luxury design experience in a unique way only offered by Genesis.” said Head of Genesis Global Design, SangYup Lee. “G90 is the ultimate expression of Athletic Elegance that carefully balances dynamic driving and an elegant rear seat experience.”

More information on North American market specifications and deliveries will be available at a later date.

  • 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70

     2023 Genesis Electrified GV70

Genesis introduced the new model by hosting a world premiere event at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition (Auto Guangzhou 2021) in China, which takes place at the China Import and Export Fair Complex from November 19–28, 2021.

Appearing via video at the world premiere event, Jay Chang, Global Head of the Genesis brand, introduced the brand’s vision for electrification, after which SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design, discussed the Electrified GV70’s design. Markus Henne, Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Motor China, punctuated the event onsite by presenting Genesis’ market strategy for the country.

“Our global vision to create a sustainable future through electrification is a natural extension of our original commitment that dates back to the launch of Genesis in 2015: the commitment to creating a positive impact in our customers’ lives,” said Jay Chang, Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “I am pleased to reveal another new EV model in China that celebrates our audacious step toward a sustainable future.”

“We are presenting the Electrified GV70 to engage with youthful and energetic Chinese customers,” said SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design. “This is more than just a new electrified SUV. It is a statement for Genesis design that marks new territory.”

The Electrified GV70 sets a new standard for electric SUVs

The Electrified GV70 is built on the heritage of GV70, inheriting its predecessor’s spacious interior and adding outstanding performance and a host of new technologies designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

During the event, Genesis showcased an Electrified GV70 with an Atacama Copper matte paint exterior. The front fascia displays a careful consideration for aerodynamic efficiency and function. Genesis’ signature Crest Grille has evolved into an aerodynamic crest that features an inverted G-Matrix pattern and incorporates a hidden EV charging port, creating a minimalist yet sophisticated look. The minimalist horizontal shape of the rear bumper completes the model’s modern image. A simplified, tailpipe-free skid plate emphasizes the SUV’s electric nature, while the iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps put the finishing touch on the electric model of GV70 with Genesis’ signature Two Lines architecture.

The interior boasts a driver-focused design, offering an intuitive and dynamic driving experience. Inspired by the ‘Beauty of White Space’ interior design concept, the Electrified GV70 offers customers the opportunity to write their own story with an interior that reflects the sustainable ambitions of this electric vehicle, as well as Genesis’ commitment to future sustainability. A variety of eco-friendly materials have been used to furnish the model, and each material features a high-quality finish, completing a design that embodies Genesis’ vision for sustainable luxury from the inside out. Genesis will offer the model with a Glacier White interior.

As an athletic and dynamic vehicle, the Electrified GV70 offers competitive and powerful performance to satisfy drivers. It will be available only as an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) model, and details on output and performance for North American models will be available closer to launch. This powerful model is expected to reach 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds with Boost Mode.

Range estimates for the North American market will be available closer to launch. The addition of 350kW rapid charging, meanwhile, enables the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes.

Furthermore, Genesis’ application of a 400V/800V multi-rapid charging system will allow drivers to utilize various forms of charging infrastructure. The multi-rapid charging system enables fast and stable charging by raising the voltage supplied by typical chargers from 400V to 800V. The technology is optimized for the vehicle’s system thanks to the model’s driving motors and inverters. Customers can use the 800V rapid charging system to utilize both 400V and 800V charging infrastructure without the need for an additional converter.

The electric version of the GV70 also includes a V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature that supports a 3.6kW charge, which is higher than the power supply in the average home, enabling customers to conveniently use electric appliances outside of the vehicle.

Moreover, the Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) can automatically connect or disconnect the motor and drive shaft, considering various driving conditions. Such conditions include vehicle speed and driving mode, enabling seamless switching between 2WD and AWD – reducing unnecessary power loss while increasing efficiency.

The new model’s driving experience is further enhanced with a variety of cutting-edge technologies. The Smart Regenerative Braking System 2.0 regenerates energy through the braking system based on driving habits, real-time navigation, and road conditions. In driving mode, the i-Pedal (Intelligent Pedal) allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate and stop using just the accelerator pedal.

Genesis also equipped the vehicle with ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) to achieve a comfortable driving experience. The technology significantly reduces the level of noise by measuring and analyzing road noises utilizing four sensors and eight microphones and simultaneously creating sounds at opposite phases.

The Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Pre-view ECS) has been applied to support an optimal driving experience. This suspension system can be controlled based on information collected through the SUV’s front camera and navigation system.

    * Specifications and features noted are only confirmed for the Korean market at this time and are subject to change for international models. More information on North American market specifications and deliveries will be available at a later date.

  • Genesis reveals first images of new 2021 G80

2021 Genesis G80Genesis has unveiled the all-new G80 to its online audience via a series of design renderings. The latest lineup member is the third-generation model which leads Genesis in the luxury market as a mid-sized exclusive luxury sedan.

As expected, the vehicle adopts “Athletic Elegance” design language. This design concept allows variations in style and striking a well-considered balance between the two opposing characteristics – Athleticism and Elegance. The all-new G80 is the core of the Genesis model lineup and offers a unique interpretation of the midsize luxury sedan.

In detail, the Crest Grille and the two lines of the Quadlamps circumventing all sides of the vehicle are signature design elements of the brand, first introduced with the unveiling of the GV80 and now being present in the new G80.

The sides showcase a long sweeping Parabolic Line from front to rear flowing gently downwards, boosting the elegance of the vehicle, while the upswept chrome line maintains direction posture, which counterbalances the smooth lines. The sharp athletic power lines of the front and rear fenders are further emphasized by the large 20-inch exclusive wheels.

At the rear, the vehicle showcase neat Quadlamps and the horseshoe-shaped negative surface of the decklid. The trunk release button and surrounding chrome mimics the shape of the Genesis logo and contributes to that overall appealing design elegance.

As it comes to interior styling, the dashboard is deconstructed to an expansive open space featuring a widescreen 14.5-inch infotainment screen. Also, the slim air conditioning vest visually stretches the width of the cabin. There are also some exclusive components – thicker A-pillars and the size of the rearview mirror that altogether ensures a comfortable and relaxed panoramic view.
