  • Ford Ranger Raptors

    2020 Ford Ranger Raptors1

Christmas has come early for the animals at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, which has taken delivery of two Ford Ranger Raptors.

The tiger-liveried Raptors are being put to good use across the UK’s largest zoo, tasked with feeding some of its 3,500 animals, many of which are Endangered or Extinct in the wild.

Duties for the Raptors include helping keepers transport food, bedding and feeding or activity toys around across the 600-acre nature haven. The other vehicle is currently spreading Christmas joy as a stand-in for Santa’s sleigh, entertaining visitors who returned on 2nd December after a second enforced closure due to COVID-19. More than one million people visit Whipsnade and London Zoo combined each year.

Ford is also loaning ZSL London Zoo a congestion charge and low emission zone-exempt Transit Custom plug-in Hybrid in the new year to assist with inner-city logistics and transporting goods to and from each site.

Owen Craft, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Chief Operating Officer, said: ““As an international conservation charity this year has been challenging for us. We have keenly felt the pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we and our sister site ZSL London Zoo, were forced to close for a total of 16 weeks each, putting us under huge financial strain and impacting our global conservation efforts. We are grateful to Ford for this loan, which is helping our keepers to care for some of the worlds most endangered animals.”

The Ranger Raptor’s Quickclear windscreen will prove useful for the early morning starts, while the heated seats will help to keep keepers warm during winter.

Mike Laird, Ranger Product Manager, Ford of Europe, said: “The Ranger Raptor is a workhorse, but on this occasion it’s working alongside the horses. These visually striking pick-up trucks will become as much of a visitor attraction as the animals themselves, not least because Ranger Raptors stay still for photos!”

Raptor is built to withstand high-impact, off-road events, thanks to its unique, super-strong reinforced chassis frame, which uses high-strength, low-alloy steels to endure the high-performance off-road driving. FOX shock absorbers with Position Sensitive Damping provide higher damping forces for unparalleled off-road capability. Its 1,560 by 1,575mm load tray has been designed with the weekend explorer in mind, able to carry dirt bikes or jet-skis, but will happily accommodate hay bales, too.

ZSL’s keepers will also be able to choose from six Terrain Management System modes to tackle a wide range of terrain and driving scenarios, including:

    • Normal mode – emphasising comfort, fuel economy and driveability
    • Sport mode – more responsive for spirited on-road driving
    • Grass/Gravel/Snow mode – designed to inspire safe and confident driving on off-road slippery and uneven surfaces
    • Mud/Sand mode – tuning vehicle responses for optimum traction and momentum in deep, deformable surfaces like loose sand and mud
    • Rock mode –  specifically for low-speed rocky terrain where smooth controllability is key
    • Baja mode – tuning responses for high-speed off-road performance
  • Ford Fiesta and Transit-Tourneo

    2021 Ford Fiesta and Transit-Tourneo1

The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Transit Custom / Tourneo Custom range took the No.1 and No.2 spots respectively in Britain’s best-selling new vehicles chart for 2020.

“I want to thank our customers for continuing to show their confidence and trust in the Ford brand in what was an unprecedented difficult year,” said Lisa Brankin, managing director, Ford of Britain and Ireland.

“The new lockdown measures announced earlier this week mean there will be a slow start to the much-needed recovery in the new vehicle sales market as we begin 2021, though thankfully the UK-EU and UK-Turkey trade agreements signed just ahead of the new year have avoided an even worse potential situation. We hope that the current circumstances will have changed enough by the all-important March sales month to help give the industry the kick-start it needs.

“We will be playing our part by keeping up our new vehicle momentum at Ford, bringing to market exciting new products like the all-electric Mustang Mach-E which we’ll see on our roads in the next few months.”

For the Ford Fiesta, 2020 marked the 12th successive year it had captured the top spot as Britain’s most loved passenger vehicle with more than 49,000 sold. Since 2009, Ford customers in Britain have purchased close to 1.3 million Fiestas.

Ford was Britain’s top-selling passenger vehicle brand in 2020, a position it has held for the past 44 consecutive years, and also led retail sales with a 10.9 percent share in this segment. Other passenger vehicle highlights included the Ford Puma which, in its first year on sale, with nearly 26,300 sold, is the best-selling mini utility vehicle in the country and placed No.8 in the best-sellers list overall.

Ford not only led the medium and light commercial vehicle sales chart for the 55th successive year, but the Transit Custom / Tourneo Custom range were the country’s No.2 top-selling vehicles overall with sales of nearly 47,500 during the year. Transit Custom / Tourneo Custom sales represented an all-time record market share of 44.5 percent of the one tonne medium commercial segment.

The Ford Ranger also achieved a best-ever market share, accounting for 36.5 percent of total pickup sales in 2020, and making it once again Britain’s favourite pickup.

  • Ford zilla P1

    2021 Ford Fordzilla P11

    A unique co-creation process

It is the first virtual gaming race car designed in collaboration between gamers themselves and a car brand. Now Ford’s Team Fordzilla esports team is moving the game on again by revealing in a livestream on December 16th a real-life, full-scale model of its extreme Team Fordzilla P1 race car.

While seeing real cars transferred to computer games is commonplace, this is the first-ever time an auto-manufacturer has brought to life a gamer-collaborated virtual car – yet to be featured in a game – with a physical model.

The journey of the Team Fordzilla P1 race car started in March this year when gamers were asked to vote on the package and features of the car on Twitter, including seating configuration, engine position and cockpit definition. Nearly a quarter of a million fan votes were submitted throughout the polling process.

Team Fordzilla P1: enjoyment at its core

The innovative Team Fordzilla P1 race car features an exterior designed by Arturo Ariño and an interior that was the vision of Robert Engelmann, both Ford designers.

The race car is built around the monocoque structure partially covered by a large, hyper-transparent jet fighter-style canopy, protecting the driver and co-driver. The transparent canopy not only blurs the boundaries between the exterior and the interior, but it also emphasises the race car’s unique F1-like driving position.

The exterior of this race car is the combination of a sleek GT-like front end with beautifully sculped front fenders and extremely sculpted bodyside panels, with their highly memorable twist and floating buttresses visually connecting the cockpit with the rear wheels. The rear end is completely exposed and celebrates the aerodynamics and racing circuits rawness.

In the cockpit, you’ll find LED notification units, keeping the driver and co-driver up-to-date on the track status in their peripheral view. In addition, an integrated screen on the steering wheel enables live data exchange with the team at the pit wall. The whole interior is designed to help the race car driver to minimize any sort of distraction during the race and heighten the enjoyment of racing.

From CAD to reality in seven weeks

Team Fordzilla P1 is Ford’s first ever car built digitally without any face-to-face interaction throughout the process. Due to the current pandemic, it was designed by a team who had never met, working remotely, spread across five different countries and built in just seven weeks – that’s less than half of the time it would normally take. The finished build is a full-size, inside-outside model with extreme proportions and truly unmistakable character.

Co-created by gamers for gamers, the hypercar features a few special touches that speak to the sim-racing community. On the floor in front of the co-pilot’s seat there is an AFK (Away From Keyboard) message, a playful reminder that occupants of that seat are away from keyboard. A #levelup graphic acknowledges that gamers and racing drivers aim to better themselves each time they play or race, while a #liftoff graphic is a nod to the lifting off of this race car from a virtual world and transitioning it to the real one. On the front of the car by the lower spoiler there’s the most important message; a GLHF (Good luck have fun) reminder to every gamer and racing driver to truly have fun and enjoy the ride.

    Dimensions

The dimensions of the Team Fordzilla P1 race car are as follows:

    • Length: 4731 mm
    • Width: 2000 mm
    • Height: 895 mm
    • Wheels: Front tyres 315 x 30 x r21. Rear tyres 355 x 25 x r21

    Quotes

“What a stunning vehicle. I love every bit of the car. What was critical to me when we reviewed various designs earlier this year was that it needed to be unmistakably a Ford. And the Team Fordzilla P1 definitely fits that criteria: it looks both gorgeous and purposeful. And it’s innovative in many ways, not least how it was born, as a co-creation between a highly passionate and knowledgeable gaming community and our super talented design team.”
Stuart Rowley, President, Ford of Europe

“Enjoyment is at the very core of all human centred design. Is it amazing to look at, to sit in and to drive? Well, in the case of the Team Fordzilla P1, the answer to all these questions is a resounding YES!”
Amko Leenarts, Design director, Ford of Europe

“This project had so many firsts. It was the first fully digital project for us. It was the first car to be designed publicly with full transparency and the first we’ve ever designed remotely with designers located in five different countries, some of whom have never met face to face. That we completed it all in less than half of the usual time is a real testament to the team and the passion they had for the project.”
Boris Ferko, Design Manager, Ford of Europe

“Since launching Team Fordzilla in 2019 we’ve done things differently, playing to our strengths and our unique approach to gaming. Our innovative P1 race car is the perfect example, using our knowledge of the automotive world to bring to life a merging of the real and virtual worlds.”
    Emmanuel Lubrani, Team Fordzilla

  • New Kuga hybrid SUV powers into production offering even more choice to customers joining Ford’s electric revolution

    2021 Ford Kuga Hybrid1

Ford has further expanded its unprecedented line-up of electrified all-new Kuga SUVs with the new Ford Kuga Hybrid – able to deliver over 600 miles 1 of petrol-electric and pure-electric driving between fill-ups and without ever having to plug in to recharge.

Effortless to own, the self-charging Kuga Hybrid’s 1.1 kWh battery is automatically replenished both by the 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and using regenerative charging when coasting or braking. Stored energy powers an electric motor to enhance performance, support petrol engine fuel efficiency, or deliver pure-electric driving. Kuga Hybrid automatically switches seamlessly between power configurations according to the driving scenario.

The new model’s sophisticated full hybrid powertrain is unique in the Ford Kuga line-up – delivering the ultimate efficiency and refinement of pure-electric power with no need to charge from an external power source, alongside the diesel-rivalling convenience of over 600 miles total driving range.

“Each of our electrified Kuga models brings a unique set of benefits. For our new Kuga Hybrid that includes fuel efficiency and driving range to rival diesel, and the effortless refinement of charging cable-free, pure-electric driving,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “Ford is committed to offering a choice of electrified vehicles so that every customer can find the perfect solution to fit seamlessly into their life. No model demonstrates that better than Kuga”.

One of 17 Ford electrified vehicles to be introduced for customers in Europe before the end next year, production of the new Kuga Hybrid is now underway at the company’s manufacturing plant in Valencia, Spain. Kuga Hybrid’s advanced lithium-ion battery packs are also assembled at the Valencia plant following a €24 million investment in a new state-of-the-art battery assembly facility to support Ford’s electrification strategy in Europe.

Kuga Hybrid completes the most electrified line-up for a single nameplate ever offered by Ford, and joins Kuga Plug-In Hybrid and EcoBlue Hybrid 48-volt mild hybrid variants, alongside traditional petrol and diesel engines for a comprehensive range of powertrain options.

    Kuga practicality, Hybrid flexibility
The new Ford Kuga was developed from the ground up to incorporate a petrol-electric full hybrid powertrain, using efficient packaging to maximise SUV spaciousness and practicality, and support driving refinement.

Silent key start capability enables the Kuga Hybrid to pull away from a standstill using electric power alone for a truly relaxing driving experience, particularly in city and stop-start driving scenarios. The full-hybrid powertrain supports pure-electric driving for short periods while eliminating range anxiety.

The ability to travel over 600 miles on a single tank of fuel makes Kuga Hybrid a compelling alternative to diesel powertrains. Delivering fuel efficiency from 48.7mpg and CO2 emissions from 130 g/km WLTP3 alongside a 54-litre fuel tank, Kuga Hybrid total driving range is also more than 30 per cent greater than that of the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid, which offers a greater pure-electric driving range of up to 35 miles.3

With no need for customers to use an external power source to charge the battery, Kuga Hybrid offers an attractive choice for customers desiring an electrified powertrain, but who have limited access to external charging solutions at home or places of work.

The 60-cell, 1.1 kWh battery pack uses a liquid cooling system that eliminates the need for a cooling fan, helping reduce noise levels for greater cabin refinement. Optimised cooling also allows battery cells to be packaged closely together – helping retain spacious interior dimensions including more than 1 metre of headroom for front row occupants and up to 1,481 litres of cargo space behind the front seats. 4

In addition, an exhaust gas heat exchanger system helps bring the engine more quickly to its most efficient operating temperature, enabling Kuga Hybrid to engage pure-electric driving sooner following a cold start and helping quickly warm the cabin for passenger comfort. Enhanced battery performance also contributes to towing capacity of up to 1,600 kg. 5

The Kuga Hybrid powertrain delivers a smooth, linear response to acceleration demand while automatically switching between pure-electric, hybrid and petrol power, supported by a redesigned motor-generator controller. The latest generation of Ford’s power-split transmission is designed specifically to work with the 2.5-litre petrol engine – seamlessly adjusting ratios for optimum performance and fuel efficiency across a range of driving conditions. 0-62 mph acceleration takes 9.1 seconds.

The simulated gear-shift function – activated in Normal or Sport drive modes – automatically adjusts engine rpm as the vehicle’s speed changes to reduce the “rubber band” effect often associated with continuously-variable transmissions.

“We’ve listened hard to customers to make sure the Kuga Hybrid really delivers when it comes to driving appeal,” said Glen Goold, Kuga chief programme engineer. “The simulated gear-shift function makes the SUV more engaging to drive with the familiarity of traditional ‘cog swaps’, plus the added benefit of limiting engine noise.”

    More relaxing journeys
Kuga Hybrid is available to order in ST Line Edition, ST Line X Edition and Vignale variants, offering a wide range of driver assistance, comfort and convenience technologies.

A standard FordPass Connect modem 6 allows drivers to plan faster, less stressful journeys with Live Traffic updates for the navigation system and enables a range of features for a more convenient ownership experience via the FordPass mobile app, including Door Lock Unlock, Remote Start 7 and Vehicle Locator.

A wireless charging pad is also standard, and further sophisticated optional features include Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system 8 supported by an 8‑inch central touchscreen, and a premium B&O sound system.

Available driver assistance technologies designed to deliver greater confidence, make driving less demanding and enhance safety include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane Centring 2 for effortlessly negotiating stop-start and highway traffic. Active Park Assist 2 2 enables fully automated parking manoeuvres at the push of a button.

New Lane-Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist 2 makes its global debut on Kuga. The optional technology monitors the driver’s blind spot for vehicles approaching from behind and can apply counter-steering to warn the driver and discourage a lane change manoeuvre if a potential collision is detected.

Also making its global debut on the new Ford Kuga, optional Intersection Assist 2 technology monitors for potential collisions with oncoming vehicles in parallel lanes and can automatically apply the brakes to help prevent or mitigate the effects of accidents in scenarios where a driver is turning across traffic.

  • Ford transit connect enhances appeal for fleet operators with best-in-class fuel efficiency and 1.0-tonne payload

    Ford Transit Connect1

Ford today announced enhancements for Transit Connect, offering customers best-in-class fuel efficiency and introducing a 1.0-tonne payload for the first time.

Class-leading fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions will help minimise fuel costs for operators and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Transit Connect light commercial vehicle now offers up to 2,501kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) on selected variants, increasing the maximum payload to 982kg 1 and improving productivity for owners and operators by enabling them to carry heavier loads.

Ford is also introducing a new high-end Limited series in selected markets, offering a stylish exterior and premium interior specification for customers desiring a more exclusive vehicle.

“Transit Connect is already popular with fleets across Europe, and the latest enhancements make it even more compelling,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “Reducing emissions and fuel costs while improving payloads helps fleets transport more cargo or fit extra equipment while maintaining maximum efficiency.”

The new updates feature for the entire Transit Connect line-up, with deliveries of the enhanced models to Ford dealers due from mid-November.

    Optimised fuel efficiency and payload
No light commercial vehicle in its class delivers better fuel efficiency than the Transit Connect – helping businesses to save on operating costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

The best-selling Transit Connect model – the L1 Trend – delivers 68.8mpg fuel efficiency and 109 g/km of CO2 emissions NEDC (55.3mpg, 134 g/km WLTP) 2 using Ford’s advanced 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine with a choice of 75PS and 120PS power ratings, and a six-speed manual gearbox. New, low rolling resistance tyres further contribute to optimised fuel efficiency.

Ford responded directly to customer feedback to enhance the Transit Connect’s load-carrying capability and offer an improved payload of up to 982kg – an increase of 79kg over previous versions – with no compromise in versatility or fuel efficiency. Optimising wheel and tyre configurations as well as removing the dual passenger seat option contribute to the increased payload allowance. The dual passenger seat option remains available for derivatives with lower GVM.

Customers requiring the 2,501kg GVM and 982kg maximum payload can still choose from a range of powertrains to best suit their operating requirements, including 100PS or 120PS 1.5‑litre EcoBlue diesel engines with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions – for effortless and refined load-hauling.

The TREMEC six-speed transmission features rev-matching for smooth, seamless gear-changes that enhance refinement on the road, and performance on the track. The technology uses the engine’s electronic control system to briefly “blip” the throttle as the driver downshifts – matching the engine rotation speed to that of the gear that is being selected. Flat shift capability is also delivered – allowing drivers to can engage the next gear without lifting the throttle pedal. The transmission’s enhanced performance is enabled in part using dedicated oil-cooling system to cope with the increased demand.

Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission includes an upgraded torque converter and unique calibration for Mustang Mach 1, optimising torque capability, shift character and overall performance. A second air-to-oil cooler increases cooling capacity by 75 per cent to manage high-load driving situations. Manual and automatic models include an additional rear axle cooling system that further supports track driving, and are also fitted with a limited-slip differential as standard, enhancing traction both in a straight line and when exiting corners.

    Ready to race

The Mustang Mach 1 benefits from a series of aerodynamic changes that bring performance gains as well as providing a distinctive look that pays homage to the styling of the original models.

A unique front-end configuration includes a new two-piece upper grille, new lower grille and splitter, and new side grilles: all contributing to the improved aerodynamic and cooling performance.

The Mustang Mach 1 creates 22 per cent more downforce than the Mustang GT, supported by a rear diffuser design shared with the Mustang Shelby GT500 model available to Ford North America customers, and a longer undertray that incorporates dedicated fins that direct cooling air to the brakes. The shape of the front splitter has been designed to deliver increased downforce for improved grip on track, while the bespoke, single-deck rear spoiler has been matched to the front aerodynamics to ensure the perfect lift balance from front to rear.

Bespoke suspension tuning is designed to cope with the high demands of track driving. The MagneRide® 2 adjustable suspension system electronically controls the magnetorheological fluid inside the damper to respond in real time to changing road conditions, and has been recalibrated for optimum performance alongside the stiffer front springs and anti-roll bars. In addition to the new EPAS calibration, Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT500 subframes and toe-link components contribute to the sharpest Mustang steering responses in Europe yet.

The Mustang Mach 1 also gains a higher specification brake booster with a faster response time, ensuring quick and consistent braking performance even under high loads. Unique five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels that are 0.5 inches wider front and rear, and fitted with track-ready Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.

    Iconic design reborn

Indeed, the entire 21st century Ford engine, drivetrain, chassis and suspension remains intact as per its original design, meaning it delivers stunning performance guaranteed to deliver many smiles per mile.

Meanwhile, finished in striking Mopar Snakeskin Green, the Dodge features a number of custom engineering upgrades designed to bring the very best out of this classic. Hosting a modern Dodge Hellcat engine with a jaw-dropping output of 707bhp, the car’s raw power has been complemented with a custom suspension setup from Control Freaks, ensuring it performs as well as it looks.

“To be able to offer just one of these stunning restomods would be fantastic, but to have a pair of such quality is a real rarity,” adds Judge. “The cars’ new owners will be able enjoy the unique blend of iconic classic looks with modern day supercar performance and handling. While these types of cars certainly have a niche appeal, given the genuine quality and craftsmanship of their transformation, we expect bidding to be highly competitive and we wish all bidders the very best of luck.”

  • Special edition Ford Fiesta ST fine tunes thrills for driving enthusiasts with adjustable suspension and exclusive styling

    2021 Ford Fiesta ST Edition1

Ford has unveiled a new, special edition version of the acclaimed Fiesta ST, limited to 300 built to order for UK customers among 500 units for Europe.

Featuring adjustable suspension for ultimate road and track performance, alongside exclusive styling details, the Fiesta ST Edition is priced at £27,075.

The head turner is easily identified by a unique Azura Blue exterior finish and High Gloss Black detailing for elements including the rear diffuser, roof spoiler and – for the first time – the ST badges. The exclusive interior features carbon fibre-effect detailing, bespoke blue stitching, and introduces a new Ford Performance steering wheel providing direct access to Sport Drive Mode with a dedicated button.

This ST Edition enhances the multi-awarding-winning hot hatch with a Ford Performance adjustable coilover suspension system that enables customisation of cornering, road-holding and ride-height characteristics for true performance driving enthusiasts.

Responsiveness and dynamics are further enhanced with standard flow-formed alloy wheels that reduce unsprung weight, contributing to the most rewarding, agile and confident Fiesta driving experience yet.

“Our new Fiesta ST Edition squeezes even more excitement out of the best-handling compact hot-hatch on the road,” said Stefan Muenzinger, Ford Performance manager for Europe. “The Edition model puts drivers firmly in control with the ability to manually adjust the feel of their car and fine-tune the handling to suit their personal preference.”

    Balance and control
Extensively tested and developed at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife by Ford Performance, the Fiesta ST Edition is fine-tuned to optimise balance and control through corners and offers the flexibility for drivers to further tailor suspension setting to their specific driving style or environment.

The two-way adjustable coilover suspension system features twin tube stainless steel damper housings and powder-coated springs finished in Ford Performance Blue. Ride height is lowered 15mm at the front, 10mm at the rear and is adjustable. Twelve ‘bump’ settings – the degree of upward damper movement allowed as the wheel contacts a bump in the road, and 16 rebound settings – the speed at which the damper returns to position after an upward movement, put the driver in control of cornering responses.

Ford Performance flow-formed 18-inch alloy wheels offer a weight reduction of almost two kilograms each compared with the standard Fiesta ST alloys. The 10-spoke wheels retain their tensile strength and offer greater shock resistance than a traditional cast wheel despite using less material. The flow-forming process applies pressure to the wheel’s inner barrel as it spins after being cast, stretching and compressing the aluminium.

The lighter wheels follow the profile of rougher road surfaces more effectively and reduce the demand on the Fiesta ST Edition’s dampers and springs, improving tyre contact with the road for improved grip and responses.

The Quaife limited-slip differential (LSD) further optimises front-end traction and enhances cornering ability, delivering maximum grip on the exit of corners and working alongside Ford’s enhanced Torque Vectoring Control technology to improve road-holding and reduce understeer. The system applies braking force to the inside front wheel when cornering to deliver optimal grip on dry surfaces and smoothness on wet surfaces.

The Edition model also continues to offer Fiesta ST’s Normal, Sport and Track Selectable Drive Modes, with Sport mode now able to be activated directly from a dedicated button on the steering wheel. Launch Control is also available, and a switchable three-mode electronic stability control system is standard.

Ford’s 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine uses turbocharging, high-pressure fuel injection, and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing to deliver 200PS at 6,000rpm, and 290Nm of torque from 1,600rpm to 4,000rpm, for 0-62mph acceleration in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 143mph.

A combination of port fuel injection and direct fuel injection works alongside Ford’s innovative cylinder deactivation technology to help drivers save fuel, delivering CO2 emissions from 135g/km NEDC (149g/km WLTP) and fuel efficiency from 46.3mpg NEDC (42.8mpg WLTP).4

The Ford Performance model’s sporty character is further enhanced using a bespoke steering knuckle design; unique EPAS calibration with 12:1 steering ratio, and high performance braking system with 278mm vented front and 253mm solid rear discs.

    Special Edition styling
Available in three-door body style, the Fiesta ST Edition features unique exterior styling for exclusive appeal.

The bold Azura Blue finish was previously only available as part of Ford’s Special Vehicle Options range. Contrasting detailing includes High Gloss Black for the upper grille, fog light surrounds and distinctive rear diffuser, as well as the roof, rear spoiler, alloy wheels and door mirrors – which incorporate puddle lamps that project the ST logo onto the ground when unlocking.

The lower grille and turbocharger air charge cooler are finished in matte black. Further denoting the model’s special edition status, exterior ST badges feature a unique black enamel surround.

Interior enhancements include carbon fibre-effect finish on the instrument cluster surround and dashboard decorative elements, including the air vent surrounds. The air vent apertures and a unique red illuminated starter button are finished with chrome-effect rings.

The Fiesta ST Edition’s signature flat-bottomed steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake are finished in leather and feature distinctive blue stitching, as do the door trims, ST-branded floor mats, seatbelts and ST-branded Recaro heated sports seats with adjustable lumbar support.

    Refined and connected
Fiesta STs including the new Edition model offer a better-connected and more intuitive driving experience than ever.

A standard FordPass Connect modem enables a range of functions to make the ownership experience easier and more rewarding. In addition to helping drivers plan faster, less stressful journeys with Live Traffic updates, customers can remotely control a selection of vehicle features from any location via their smartphone including Door Lock/Unlock, Vehicle Locator, and Vehicle Status for checking fuel level, alarm status, tyre pressures, oil life and more.3

The Fiesta ST’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system has been enhanced to be more intuitive and easier to use, with a new user interface that features larger buttons displayed on the 8-inch colour touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ compatibility are included free-of-charge. A wireless charging pad also is offered, helping occupants effortlessly charge smartphones on the move.

  • New Ford Kuga SUV steers ahead of the pack in first-ever assisted driving ranking from euro NCAP

    Ford Kuga SUV1

Ford Co-Pilot360 driver assistance technologies designed to deliver an intuitive and stress-reducing driving experience have earned the new Ford Kuga SUV a leading position in Euro NCAP’s first Assisted Driving grading.

Kuga finished ahead of vehicles including the Tesla Model 3, Volvo V60, and Volkswagen Passat in the overall ranking, following independent testing of technologies that automatically help the SUV maintain a comfortable driving distance from vehicles ahead, stay centered in its lane, and adjust the speed to within legal limits.

Euro NCAP’s new Assisted Driving program evaluates features that share control of the vehicle with a driver who retains full responsibility; helping to detect and respond to objects and events for effortless, confidence-inspiring journeys.

Kuga scored more than twice as many points as the Tesla Model 3 in the Driver Engagement category and significantly outscored both the Volvo V60 and Volkswagen Passat for Safety Backup during two weeks of tests, which also assessed the effectiveness of Vehicle Assistance from the technologies.

“For all the freedom and independence it gives us, driving on today’s busy roads can be a demanding and stressful experience. That’s why we designed technologies to take some of the strain from drivers and help them focus more clearly on the road,” said Stuart Southgate, director, Safety Engineering, Ford of Europe. “We worked hard to make Kuga’s assisted driving experience as intuitive, natural, and engaging as possible so that drivers would enjoy taking full advantage of the technologies available.”

Kuga’s available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition, and Lane Centring uses a combination of radar and camera to monitor the road and traffic ahead, and can automatically keep pace with traffic and road flow as well as speed restrictions in many driving scenarios.

Stop & Go – available with Kuga’s eight-speed automatic transmission – enables the ACC system to bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic using up to 50 percent of total braking force, and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than 3 seconds. For stopping durations greater than 3 seconds, the driver can push a steering wheel button or gently apply the accelerator to pull away.

Speed Sign Recognition can adjust the vehicle speed to within legal limits by monitoring the roadside and overhead gantries for speed signs, in addition to using information from the on-board navigation system.

Lane Centring technology monitors road markings and can apply gentle but discernible torque to the steering system to help drivers stay centered in their lane whenever the ACC system is activated. Designed to support drivers at speeds up to 125 mph, the technology will deliver visual and audible warnings if it detects a lack of steering wheel input from the driver.

“The Ford Kuga demonstrates across a wide variety of cars tested that a Good grading is achievable on a high-volume family SUV,” said Richard Schram, technical director, Euro NCAP. “Ford impressed in our first ever Assisted Driving technology grading, showing high performance in all areas and a good balance between Driver Engagement and Vehicle Assistance with a robust Safety Backup.”

Kuga also features advanced technologies designed to help prevent or mitigate the effects of accidents, including Blind Spot Assist and Intersection Assist – both making their global debuts – and Pre-Collision Assist with Active Braking.

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

    2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT1

Ford today revealed for the first time in Europe the high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT that will deliver 3.7‑second 0-62 mph acceleration1 when introduced to the region in late 2021.

No other vehicle in its class can accelerate faster than the Mustang Mach-E GT, featuring a 465 PS, all-wheel drive, battery-electric powertrain for drivers ready to take full advantage of the performance benefits of all-electric driving.

Mustang Mach-E GT will be supported by an industry-leading ecosystem delivering seamless, integrated access to charging across Europe – for complete peace of mind on the move. Ford today announced Mustang Mach-E customers placing an order this year and into 2021 will receive five years of free access2 to the FordPass Charging Network that has grown by almost 25 per cent in less than one year – to now include more than 155,000 charge stations across Europe.

Mach-E customers will also receive one year of free access2 to the IONITY fast-charging network that has now established more than 270 charging stations en route to a targeted 400 by the end of this year.

The Mustang Mach-E GT made its European debut today in Rotterdam, Netherlands, as Ford continued its Go Electric roadshow with hands-on, engaging activities to help de-mystify electrification and inspire confidence in consumers about the different types of electrified powertrains available and their benefits.

“The new Mustang Mach-E GT shows what all-electric performance really looks like, but performance counts for nothing without the confidence to use it. Our charging initiatives mean Mustang Mach-E customers can enjoy the electrified Mustang driving experience with the knowledge that they can recharge quickly and easily across Europe,” said Stuart Rowley, president, Ford of Europe.

    Electrifying performance
Mustang Mach-E GT delivers the spirited performance and character of the iconic Mustang sports car alongside the ability to carry five occupants in all-electric refinement. A 465 PS, dual-motor powertrain applies 830 Nm of available torque independently to the front and rear axles for even more responsive handling, and 0-62 mph acceleration equal to the Tesla Model Y. Top speed is limited to 200 km/h (124 mph).

A bespoke specification includes MagneRide adaptive suspension, 20‑inch alloy wheels, red-painted brake callipers and unique exterior colours including Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange. Inside, a 15.5-inch full HD touch display supports a next generation SYNC communication and entertainment system3 that actually learns from driver behaviours to make smart suggestions. The enhanced interior also features Ford Performance seats and a unique steering wheel with suede inserts.

Mustang Mach-E GT features as standard an 88 kWh (useable) extended-range battery for a targeted WLTP pure-electric driving range of up to 310 miles,4 supported by Intelligent Range, which more accurately predicts how much range drivers have using past driving behaviour, weather forecasts and crowdsourced data from other Mustang Mach-E vehicles.

Ford also today announced that the standard Mustang Mach-E equipped with an extended-range battery and all-wheel drive delivers 5.1-second 0‑62 mph acceleration5 – equal to the Tesla Model Y Long Range model – and a targeted WLTP pure-electric driving range of up to 540 km (335 miles).4

The company is delivering peace of mind for its all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle customers via the FordPass Charging Network – the largest network of public charging stations in Europe with approximately 30,000 stations added since October 2019.

In partnership with NewMotion, Ford customers will be able to use the FordPass app to effortlessly locate, navigate to, pay for and monitor charging at locations across 21 countries – initiating and paying for services from a single account2 for a simplified ownership experience.

Ford is also a founder member and shareholder in the IONITY consortium – delivering high-power charging stations along motorway routes and at key European locations. The FordPass Charging Network and IONITY initiatives could be particularly beneficial to electrified vehicle owners who do not have the facility for a private charge point at home or at work.

Charging with up to 150 kW at an IONITY station, Mustang Mach-E in extended-range battery, rear-wheel drive configuration is estimated to add an average of 73 miles driving range within approximately 10 minutes of charging6 and has a targeted WLTP pure-electric driving range of up to 379 miles.4

    No one-size-fits-all solution
Ford believes a broad range of electrified powertrain solutions is the most effective path to a more energy-efficient future for drivers. Ford is introducing 17 new electrified models to the region by the end of next year.

Earlier this year the company called on governments, industries and institutions to support the push for electrification with faster expansion of public charging infrastructures. In the meantime, Ford’s diverse range of hybrid vehicles is helping greater numbers of customers save fuel costs, support clean air initiatives and transition to electrification with confidence.

Seventy-five per cent of Puma models sold up to August this year are equipped with a Ford EcoBoost 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain. Fifty-five per cent of new Kuga sales in the same period have been Kuga Plug-In Hybrid models.

A U.K. trial of 20 Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid vans covering more than 150,000 miles found that 75 per cent of the fleet’s mileage in Central London was completed using pure electric power – dramatically reducing tailpipe emissions in the inner city.

Full hybrid variants of the Ford S-MAX and Galaxy models are joining the Mondeo Hybrid early next year, following a €42 million investment in Ford’s Valencia manufacturing plant, Spain – including a state-of-the-art battery assembly facility.

“The sales speak for themselves. We believe customers are finding mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains fit seamlessly with their lifestyles, and that’s why we’re seeing really encouraging take-up of our electrified models,” Rowley said.

    Ultimate electric propulsion
Also making its European debut in Rotterdam is the all-electric Mustang Mach-E 1400 – a one-of-a-kind prototype with more than 1,400 PS of power.

The result of 10,000 hours of collaboration by Ford Performance and tuning specialists RTR Vehicles, Mustang Mach-E 1400 is aimed at bridging the gap between what an electric vehicle can do and what customers tend to believe it can do.

Aerodynamics are optimised for shape and location, and seven motors have a huge range of adjustability to set the car up for everything from drifting to high-speed track racing.

“One is a production model, the other an extreme prototype, but our Mustang Mach-E GT and Mustang Mach-E 1400 have something in common, which is immediate, adaptable power delivery, creating a driving experience that has to be experienced to be believed,” Rowley said.

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E

    2021-Mustang-Mach-E1

Inspired by classic 80’s sci-fi cinema, Ford sound designers worked with the studio Ozone Sound to craft electronic sounds that can be heard inside and outside of the Mustang Mach-E while the car is moving.

That piqued the interest of Dear, a founding member of world-renowned electronic music label Ghostly International and originator of the “Hands Up for Detroit” anthem. Dear used the synth-heavy sounds to create “New Breed,” a hypnotic electronic arrangement that’s distinctly Mustang Mach-E.

“The idea of remixing the sounds from the Mustang Mach-E was immediately interesting because I’ve always considered myself to be a ‘sound tinkerer,’” said Dear. “But after I got to actually hear and experience the digital propulsion sounds that Ford created, I was sold on the project. The sounds are cooler than I thought they’d be — cinematic and sci-fi — and all the noises the car makes have a sense of modern musicality. Creating “New Breed” was a new experience and I think the song — like the car — takes its passengers on a voyage.”
