  • Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo Concept Makes First Appearance at SEMA

Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo Concept was just revealed at SEMA, being equipped with turbocharged engine for the first time. And here’s “the deal” it comes not with one but two turbochargers.

In fact, every internal combustion engine has a plentiful source of energy that normally goes to waste right out the exhaust pipe. Here the two turbochargers put together the thermal and kinetic energy in the exhaust gases so that they drive turbines and compressors that force more air into the engine for a big increase in power without most of the parasitic losses of a supercharger.

Furthermore, the design of the turbocharger design was brought to reality after a substantial work on the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, which we have seen on the F-150 model. And the effect is that this concept has been brought to reality.

However, there’s a disadvantage – the lag. Ford has dealt with it by selecting the smallest possible turbos which can give the needed airflow. Other enhancements have been featured as well in order to improve the responsiveness. The result is very low inertia and very low internal friction.

Here the help was offered by Borg-Warner, which has supplied the brand with smaller, more efficient turbochargers based on the units used in the Focus ST for the Cobra Jet concept. They are smaller than those found in most other drag racing applications. In details, the turbine wheels were made from titanium aluminide – a material which reduces the rotational inertia by 50 percent.

Next to be mentioned are the integrated, electronically controlled wastegates, which were utilized on production EcoBoost engines and which enable the turbos continuous spinning. Additionally, they generate the boost pressure needed for low elapsed times and high trap speeds at the strip.

Another advantage here in my opinion is that the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo Concept includes unique Racing livery. The white body is accented with an asymmetric black and blue stripe, which runs over the top of the car from bumper to bumper. The Cobra Jet’s flanks blend an upward sweeping version of the stripe with the traditional striking cobra head in black with blue accents.

  • Ford Mustang at 2012 SEMA

Ford-Mustang-at-SEMA-THUMBIt is more than sure that Ford Mustang is going to make a great furore at SEMA. This time the emblematic vehicle will be shown in exactly four new and more than exciting variants, which differ from one another in terms of appearance, power and sophistication.

The first model is the Ringbrothers Mustang GT, which is equipped with 5.0L V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It is inspired by street machine style and adds to the Mustang a supercharger, suspension upgrades, Baer brakes, a carbon-fiber body kit, custom waterborne paint, and big wheels and tires in order to deliver an optimized balance of form and function.

    Ford-Mustang-at-SEMA-651-2

Stitchcraft Mustang Convertible comes next with its 3.7L V6 engine – again matched to 6-speed manual transmission. The tuners added here nitrous injection, a FlowMaster exhaust, Hotchkis coil-over suspension and big Wilwood brakes to give this Ford more performance. A 3dCarbon body kit and custom paint scheme harmonize with the signature Stitchcraft custom interior to add individuality and comfort.

The third Ford to be on a display at SEMA this year is built by DSO Eyewear and draws its power from 5.0L V8 engine mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. This time the GT here includes whipple twin-screw supercharger with intercooler enhances the horsepower up to the unbelievable 750.

In addition, the Eibach suspension and Brembo brakes help deliver and modulate speed. Big wheels and tires, a 3dCarbon body kit, extensive interior customization, and a booming Rockford audio system combine to set this unique build apart.

At last but not least comes the Mustang GT with 5.0L V8 built by Mothers, Autosport Dynamics, RTR. Its engine is mated again to a six-speed manual transmission and helps the pony generate the great amount of 650 horsepower.

In addition, here were also added track-ready suspension, fitted big wheels and tires, wrapping the package with an RTR carbon-fiber body kit. The cockpit includes custom Sparco seats with custom upholstery.

  • Exclusive Preview of 2015 Ford Mustang

Great renders of 2015 Ford Mustang has been just released. Although only renders they precisely show how the new Ford model will look like. The person behind all this work is Josh Byrnes, who definitely got the appearance of the car as close to the real thing as possible.

The Mustang has been in production since 1964 and the forthcoming 2015 Mustang is expected to be a 50th birthday model. Although only rumours have been going around the awaited vehicle, the author of these renders gathered all the possible details and decided to make the vehicle in GT form.

In addition, the front of the car resembles the new Ford Fusion (Mondeo in Europe). The fog lights, which are with LED turn signals, grille and headlamps are also similar. Next, the styling of the classic side C-Channel takes on a more streamlined theme.

How about the rear of the coupe? Here the typical tail for the model is kept and the taillights are enclosed in a glossy black panel. Interior-wise, it is possible that the Mustang will include instrument cluster similar to the current car with a convex brushed-aluminum dash panel. Other highlights will include the MyFord Touch screen flanked by audio controls on both sides, plus an oddly placed red starter button.

Some words leaked about the engine as well. It is either going to the well-known V8 one or the four-cylinder and V6 turbocharged EcoBoost.

  • SR Auto Ford Mustang – the American Dream

SR-Auto-Ford-Mustang-THUMBSR Auto Ford Mustang just came out of the dark. Being a Ford Mustang, the car is firstly a true symbol of America’s contribution to the evolution of the automotive world.

The modification performed by SR Auto began with the wheels and suspension. To match Mustangs extraordinary power, they decided to equip the car with set of 18 inch wheels. Thanks to them, the tuners increased the profile of the tire to provide more traction.

Furthermore, they have also installed on this emblematic Ford model a set of H&R lowering springs to lower the Mustang’s center of gravity. This of course resulted in a more responsive and direct due to the drop handling.

In terms of performance, the tuners chose the simple Magnaflow catback exhaust system. In short, what basically this system did is to free up the airflow while giving this Mustang a nice growl.

In addition the throttle response was also improved via a sprint booster. This significantly increased the throttle response giving the person behind the wheel more control over the machine.

  • 2013 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 1 and 2 [VIDEO]

2013-Ford-Mustang-RTR-thumbThe Mustang RTR package is not what you’d call a “genuine” after-market love child. Not because it’s insufficient but because it’s actually offered at Ford dealerships. That makes it pretty official, despite being conceived by Vaughn Gittin Jr. – World Champion drifter and Mustang fanatic. Classic Design Concepts helped shape Mr. Gittin shape his dream of a better, more powerful, more appealing and more exciting pony. Will the 2013 Ford Mustang RTR hit the spot?

The package is divided into two stages:

Spec 1 can go on the V6 or the V8 model thus adding some flare with a rear spoiler a front chin…a license plate surround with ducts in it (what?) and some badges on the sides and at the back. Optionally you can go with the special RTR signature graphics that shoo away dullness.

    Ford Mustang RTR (2013)
    Ford Mustang RTR (2013)

It’s not all hips and thighs though. An RTR Axleback exhaust system adds 9 hp while Ford Racing 1” lowering springs hunker down the whole car. That leaves just enough space in the wheel arches for 9.5 x 19 RTR wheels wrapped in high performance Falken FK 453 tires.

Inside, one gets some more badges, embroidered floor mats an RTR shift knob and a serial plate that indexes the number of your Mustang RTR and also bare Mr. Gittin’s signature.

That was for Spec 1. Spec 2 (V8 only) goes the extra mile and adds a rear diffuser and rocker splitters which will presumably provide even more downforce. That’s why it only seems logical to add a bit more power – 16 hp coming from a Ford Racing Tune and a K&N air filter. Not exactly groundbreaking but the RTR Mustang is no longer a straight road muscle car. Thanks to some Ford Racing adjustable shocks, Ford Racing upper shock mounts, RTR adjustable front and rear sway bars, cross drilled and slotted rotors and some RTR rear chassis support, you can go side ways all day and still not need a pelvis transplant.

Not convinced? Here’s a video with some smooth camera angles, a cool track and a 2013 Ford Mustang RTR doing some eye-candy stuff:

  • Most Powerful Ford Mustang Going to Goodwood

Goodwood-Ford-Shelby-GT500-thumbFord will, for the first time ever, ship one of their most powerful Mustangs ever outside of the US. The occasion is the Goodwood festival which will be held this weekend. More importantly however, the latest Shelby GT500 will serve as a fitting tribute to the now deceased Carroll Shelby.

The “pony” is to participate in the famous Goodwood hillclimb with guest drivers behind the wheel. They’ll have to keep in mind that the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 has an aluminum 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. In other words – the most powerful North American production car yet. It sounds rudimentary, but the features that put control on that power are abundant as well – updated gearing for superior traction management, suspension tuning and a clever launch control that can be adjusted manually as well. Then there’s the brute counter force: Brembo six-piston (front) calipers. This particular one will also be stuck with the otherwise optional Performance Package which adds electronically adjustable dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential and then a Track Package that integrates three additional coolers to the system. A worthy commemoration of Carroll Shelby.

Distinctive outside features include, downforce-friendly front grilles, a pointy splitter, a new quad-exhaust system and new forged-aluminium wheels.

Carroll Shelby passed on May the 10th 2012, leaving behind an engineering legacy, 16 US and international world speed records and a number of charity deeds. One of his most famous works – the Cobra – still sends shivers through the spines of motoring enthusiasts. In 2003 he began his joint venture with Ford which resulted in the making of the Mustang Shelby GT series.

  • 2013 ROUSH Ford Mustang RS

ROUSH-RS-Ford-Mustang-thumb“Engineered on the track, refined for everyday” is what ROUSH say about their latest Ford Mustang RS. It’s a MY 2013 and the RS stands for “ROUSH Six”. The base platform used for it is the rather sensible 3.7-liter V6 Mustang.

We say sensible because the power still stands at the stock 305 hp which are good for 31 mpg of economy on the highway. It’s slightly unusual for ROUSH to not glue a giant, fuel guzzling supercharger. But where the Mustang lacks in boost, compensates in suspension engineering. Brembo brakes peeking out from 19-inch, directly lifted from the Ford Mustang GT, alloy wheels and ROUSH lowering springs which lower the center of gravity by around one inch.

As for visuals, the RS shares many features with the ROUSH Stage vehicles – high-flow upper and lower grilles, a front chin splitter, side rocker splitters and a trunk spoiler. The way to tell apart the RS is by looking at the fender “R” badge on either side and also at the “R” ROUSH faux gas cap. Optional components (not really needed) are the hood scoop, rear quarter window louvers and the RS exterior side and hood graphics.

Inside, the floor mats and center console have the markings of “ROUSH” the pedal box in the driver’s foot well is custom made. Available is also a black leather trim a suede wrapping for the steering wheel and a black or white shifter ball. Ambiently lit ROUSH door sill plates complement the whole exclusive look.

  • High Gear SEMA Ford Mustang Concept to be build by women

High-Gear-SEMA-Ford-Mustang-ConceptTHUMBHigh Gear SEMA Ford Mustang Concept is a product of the work of collaboration between Ford Motor Company and Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). More importantly, standing under the name of “High Gear”, the car is the first ever SEMA Mustang which is going to be powered by women.

What does that mean? Basically, this satin-black luxury Ford Mustang concept is going to be build by group of women volunteers. In fact, in the design phase of the project were created three cars, among which the presented one stood out and was more appealing to the fans of the company.

“High Gear” is a design by Jennifer Seely of Ford, who was inspired by international products in categories such as jewelry, couture clothing and architecture. She developed the idea of the concept around the goal to stimulate the senses by fusing luxury and power.

Hence, some of the special features in this Mustang include rose-gold chrome accents throughout the exterior and interior; satin-black body; plush, quilted suede seats and a leather-wrapped interior. Further modifications will also be made to the engine, undercarriage, drivetrain and sound system.

The selected concept is now going to be built in eight weeks and this is going to be done entirely by group of women. This means that the actual work on the project is expected to be done from July to August this year. In the end, when the vehicle is ready it will make its debut at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas.
