  • Ford GT Mk IV

Representing the ultimate and most extreme track only Ford GT ever, the new Ford GT Mk IV by Ford Performance and Multimatic is a radically advanced supercar delivering max performance with its unique body, powertrain and suspension.

To deliver unconstrained performance, exceeding that of any Ford GT to date, the Ford GT Mk IV has a unique twin-turbo EcoBoost engine, racing transmission, aero-focused exterior design, and chassis with longer wheelbase for greater on-track handling.

“The original GT Mk IV held nothing back for max track performance, and the new Ford GT Mk IV brings it in the same way,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “With an even higher-level of motorsport engineering and performance, plus a completely new carbon fiber body that is functional and striking, the Mk IV is the ultimate sendoff of the third-generation supercar.”

The new Ford GT Mk IV nods to the year that the original Mk IV won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with just 67 of the hand-built supercars to be produced at Multimatic’s facility in Markham, Ontario. A new client application process will begin for this $1.7M supercar (starting MSRP), with client selections confirmed in the first-quarter of 2023. Deliveries will begin in late spring 2023.

“Multimatic’s brief was to create the most extreme final version of the Ford GT, and the Mk IV is the outcome,” said Larry Holt, executive vice president, Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations Group. “A unique larger displacement engine, proper racing gearbox, stretched wheelbase and truly radical body has resulted in an unprecedented level of performance. We are proud to have been a part of the third-generation GT from its inception to this amazing swan song and consider it a significant chapter in Multimatic’s history.”

  • Ford GT LM Edition

Ford today announces the final third-generation Ford GT special edition model. The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition celebrates America’s only Le Mans-winning race car that won in 2016 and the historic 1-2-3 podium sweep in 1966.

“With innovative materials, design and engineering, the Ford GT is unlike any other production supercar,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “As we close this chapter of the road-going Ford GT, the GT LM Edition gave us a chance to inject even more heart and soul from a podium-finishing race car, furthering the tribute to our 2016 Le Mans win.”

The Ford GT remains exclusive, and these final 20 special-edition supercars will add to its collectability. Deliveries of the 2022 final model-year Ford GT LM Edition begin this fall with production wrapping up later this year.

    Race-livery exterior, asymmetric designed interior

With its carbon fibre body proudly lacquered in Liquid Silver exterior paint, the limited-edition Ford GT LM is uniquely finished in either a red or blue theme throughout, honouring the red and blue race livery of the Le Mans winning No. 68 Ford GT.

For a unique appearance, customers can choose from exposed red or blue tinted carbon fibre that underscores the lower aerodynamics of the supercar. This includes tinting the ultra-lightweight material on the front splitter, side sills and door sills, plus engine bay louvers, mirror stalks and rear diffuser. Exposed gloss carbon fibre 20-inch wheels with corresponding red or blue inner-barrel accents, plus titanium lug nuts and Brembo® brake calipers lacquered in black to further modernize this package.

Unique to the Ford GT LM is a 3D titanium-printed dual-exhaust that features a cyclonic design inside the tips and hints at the twin-turbo 660 horsepower EcoBoost® engine. Above the tips, a titanium GT LM badge is also 3D printed.

Inside, the Ford GT LM Edition’s interior features unique appointments including Alcantara®-wrapped carbon fibre seats with a matching red or blue driver’s seat, and Ebony passenger seat with accent stitching that matches the driver’s seat colour, as well as the engine start button. The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Alcantara, while pillars and headliner are wrapped in Ebony Alcantara. Carbon fibre carries into the cabin, appearing on the console, vent registers and lower A-pillars with a matte finish.

Podium-finished crankshaft ground down and shared in all 20 GT LM Edition cars

Making the Ford GT LM Edition a special final tribute, the Ford Performance team looked for ways to embed the Le Mans podium-finishing spirit into each road car.

The result: the team located the third-place 2016 Ford GT (No. 69) race car’s engine that was disassembled and shelved after the race, ground down the crankshaft into a powder, and developed a unique bespoke alloy used to 3D print the instrument panel badge for each of the 20 special-edition supercars.

Honouring Ford GT Le Mans efforts, Ford v. Ferrari 50 years later

The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition pays tribute to the third-generation supercar’s overall win and the No. 68 Ford GT of Sébastien Bourdais (FRA), Joey Hand (US) and Dirk Müller (GER) who crossed the finish line at the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Similar to the epic 1966 Ford v. Ferrari battle, the No. 68 Ford GT took the lead for the final time in the 20th hour of the race after going one-on-one with the No. 82 Ferrari. Hand was behind the wheel on the three occasions that the Ford passed the Ferrari, rekindling a 50-year-old rivalry between the two car manufacturers.

The No. 69 Ford GT of Ryan Briscoe (AUS), Scott Dixon (NZ) and Richard Westbrook (GB) joined the winners on the podium after scoring third place. The Nos. 66 and 67 Ford GTs finished in fourth and ninth places, respectively.

The 2022 Ford GT LM also honours the herculean effort and drive from the Ford Chip Ganassi team that transformed the car into a Le Mans winner in just over one year (395 days).

  • Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition Honors 1-2-3 Ford Sweep At 1966 Le Mans

Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition

In a special nod to the debut of the original Ford GT40 prototype at the 1964 New York Auto Show, Ford is returning to the Big Apple for the first public appearance of its new GT Heritage Edition – the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Edition.

This marks the final 2022 Heritage Edition paying tribute to the GT40 MK II race car that completed the famous 1-2-3 sweep at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

“Of all the Ford GT Heritage Edition liveries we’ve done, the Holman Moody Heritage Edition’s can’t-miss signature gold and red theme is an epic tribute to our 1966 Le Mans finish,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “Inspired by one of the most well-known Ford GT40 race cars, this latest Ford GT honors the Holman Moody race team’s knowhow and ability to out-innovate global competitors.”

The Holman Moody team played a critical role in the GT40’s race success. Following the 1965 Le Mans race, Ford’s newly formed Le Mans committee tasked Holman Moody (and Shelby American) to rework the GT40 MK II. Driven more than 265 laps over eight days in January 1966, chassis No. P/1016 became a laboratory on wheels as the teams worked to redesign brakes, suspension and tire setups to be more competitive, even trying an experimental automatic transmission. They had one goal – to win at the 1966 Le Mans race.

This spirit of innovation continues today, with the 2022 Ford GT’s track-capable hardware, paddle-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and carbon fiber body.

The ultra-limited-production GT Holman Moody Edition supercar will be on display at the 2022 New York International Auto Show side-by-side with the podium-placing Holman Moody Ford GT40 MK II, chassis No. P/1016.\

Final 2022 Heritage Edition to pay tribute to the original race car that completed Ford’s 1-2-3 sweep

The unique gold and red livery of the limited-edition supercar includes signature Oxford White roundels with No. 5 stamped on the doors, hood and rear wing – all matching the appearance of the 1966 Ford GT40 raced by Holman Moody. Exposed gloss carbon fiber components are prominent, including on the 20-inch wheels, front splitter, side sills, mirrors, engine louvers and rear diffuser. Brembo® brake calipers lacquered in black with silver graphics, plus black lug nuts further modernize the aesthetic.

Carbon fiber carries into the cabin, appearing on door sills, console and registers, and even features a cleaver matte No. 5 roundel on the door panels. Ebony Alcantara®-wrapped carbon fiber seats feature gold accent stitching, while embossed seating surfaces and head restraints carry a debossed GT logo. The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Ebony Alcantara, while pillars and headliner are wrapped exclusively in Ebony Alcantara.

Gold appliqués on the instrument panel, door register bezels and seat X-brace are paired with the matte carbon fiber on the registers, door sills, lower A-pillars and console. The steering wheel is finished in Ebony Alcantara with black stitching, while dual-clutch paddle shifters are finished in exterior-matching Holman Moody Gold.

  • Ford GT under extensive wind tunnel testing before official release [w/video]

2017 Ford GT front and side view

Ford is franticly preparing to release the best car in its range

Ford GT is making WOWs every time it appears, be it even on your computer screen. By the way, its development continues unabated, and everyone is impatiently expecting to see the market debut of the carbon fiber supercar before the end of this year. In other words, the expectations are high and Ford is really making great efforts not to disappoint fans and future customers. Ford GT will probably be the best car in company’s line-up, because it is an example which features the best of Ford: efficient EcoBoost engines, light-weight, aerodynamics, functional design and active airflow management.

The video below shows company’s engineering supervisor, Nick Terzes, who takes us behind the scenes. The scenery is shot in the Wind Tunnel 8 in Allen Park, Michigan, and this is exactly where the Ford GT pre-production prototype is currently undergoing wind tunnel testing.

SEE ALSO: 6,506 potential customers get the chance to own the EcoBoost-powered Ford GT

What happens in the footage below? It previews one of the multiple sessions to prove out the extensive computer aided aerodynamic models with physical wind tunnel data. The airspeed approach is 125 mph (200 km/h). Terzes says that the “prime reason we come to the tunnel is to get the actual physical data on the vehicle” as well as to look at its “interior wind-noise acoustics, and the aerodynamics.”

The clip displays the active rear wing, which is a substantial part of a suite of active aerodynamic features on the 2017 Ford GT. It not only improves performance, but also plays crucial role in the stability and efficiency.

Terzes also reveals some important and interesting facts: “One of the great things about this car, as dynamic and beautiful as the design is, every single opening has a purpose on the car. So If you see a large grille, if you see a scoop, it’s wasn’t just put there to look good. It was put there because it has a function.”

    See for yourself!

  • Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition is here to win some hearts

2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition side viewPays Tribute to Historic Livery on 1966 Le Mans Winner

Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition is not just another limited Ford. It comes to honor, the GT40 Mark II car, which made historic victories at Le Mans with drivers Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. The year of course was 1966.

Making the long story short, this car is paying tribute to the GT40 Mart II by sporting its livery. But what makes the new model really exclusive is the fact that it will be strictly limited to production in 2017 model year only, and it will be created in limited quantities.

In short, the ’66 Heritage Edition has a Shadow Black exterior. It can be chosen in either gloss or matte finish. The contrasting point is made by the silver stripes that run in the middle of its body, while the pint of salt and pepper is added by the exposed carbon fiber package.

SEE ALSO: The lightweight 2016 Ford GT becomes even lighter: there are carbon-fiber wheels already available

Frozen White hood and door graphics are the other elements of the exterior that make it fresh and at the same time remind us about the historical event. Running on 20-inch one-piece forged alloys in a gold satin clear-coat with black lug nuts, the car truly stands out among its siblings and more importantly – among other cars on the road.

2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition interior

On the inside, this Ford GT boasts carbon-fiber seats in Ebony leather with pillowed inserts and plow-through stitching. The same material has been used for the instrument panel, pillars and headliner. Gold appliqués are featured on the instrument panel, the seat’s X-brace and shift paddles. We see the Ford GT logo on the seats’ head restraints and the steering wheel. By the way, speaking of the steering wheel, it too has been leather-wrapped, just like the one in the 1966 race car. Another similarity is that the seat belts featuring a unique blue webbing.

At last, to highlight the uniqueness of the GT ’66 Heritage Edition, Ford added serialized identification plate (#2) on the interior door, exposed matte carbon fiber door sills, air pods and center console.

As some may say, GT40 Mark II race car is actually the true predecessor of the Ford GT. What do you think?

  • The lightweight 2016 Ford GT becomes even lighter: there are carbon-fiber wheels already available

2016 Ford GT with carbon wheels The carbon-fiber-bodied Ford GT will be available with an optional all-new carbon-fiber wheels for further weight reduction and handling optimization. With collaborating partner Carbon Revolution, Ford presents the next-gen of fiber and resin technology that will probably change the world of technology.

These optional wheels will be offered with matte or glossy finish, allowing the natural weave of the carbon-fiber to show through. Also, the finishes perfectly match the rest of the exposed carbon fiber components on the new Ford GT: sills, fascia and extractor.

2016 Ford GT with carbon wheels

The standard wheels of the Ford GT are 20-inch lightweight aluminum beauties, but the new and optional carbon-fiber wheels are not only the same size, but are also structurally stiffer and save about 1kg of unsprung weight per wheel, reducing the inertia with about 25 per cent. Cool, right.

All this weight saving also reduces the suspension workload and enhances the consistent contact with the road surface, which further improves traction and driver control. And with the less energy required to accelerate or turn the wheels, the vehicle will benefit from improved dynamics and fuel efficiency.

2016 Ford GT with carbon wheels

Carbon bodies, carbon interior, carbon components and now we have carbon wheels. We all wonder what else provocative engineers will show in the near future in order to reshape the world of motorsport. So, tell me, what in your opininion will be the next significat carbon-fiber component? An engine maybe?
