  • Car buying trends 2012

2014 Ford FiestaWith less than a month remaining of 2012, the motoring industry is starting to reflect on what cars have proved to be the most popular with consumers looking for something new or used.  Whether customers want something new or a used Audi from VCARS.co.uk, in these austere times, they want value for money, and the fact that many new cars that have sold well are smaller, more efficient models shows how much people want to drive on the cheap.

Some of the most popular new cars sold in 2012 are small city cars and superminis. The Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa are two good examples. Given their size, they cost less to buy, but they tend to offer drivers much more in terms of savings than a lower price tag. Smaller cars use less petrol, which at a time when fuel is becoming more expensive by the day is very useful. Meanwhile, small cars also tend to cost less in terms of tax.

As well as smaller new cars, used cars are also growing in popularity. As companies like VCARS sell used cars at great prices, the temptation for motorists who don’t mind buying second-hand is great to say the least. You could get a car that has everything you could ask for – great fuel economy, plenty of space, comfort and equipment plus a smooth ride for a fraction of the price of a new model.

If the economy improves over the course of 2013, there’s a chance that more people will be buying new. However, any new models that are bought are likely to be more fuel-efficient. Hybrids and electric cars are likely to grow in popularity, especially if the price of petrol and diesel continues to increase at its current rate. However, with many drivers with their eyes on the pennies, they’re likely to continue to buy thriftily.

  • 2014 Ford Fiesta with 1.0-liter EcoBoost Confirmed for US

2014-Ford-Fiesta-THUMB2014 Ford Fiesta which was unveiled in the beginning of September this year will be officially launched in the United States’ market next year, and will be the first Ford vehicle to include the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

Although this is the smallest engine available in its class, it still delivers power, torque and refinement. And to be more precise, the smooth, quiet-running engine generates 123 horsepower (90 kW) and peak torque of 200 Nm (148 lb.-ft.).

The newest engine joins the most fuel-efficient model in Ford’s lineup. As a matter of fact, next year Ford will offer eight vehicles rated at 40 mpg. In addition, this engine is company’s first three-cylinder one, but it debuts many new technologies: an offset crankshaft; variable oil pump; split cooling system; external-balancing, super-small, responsive turbocharger; and a timing belt immersed in engine oil.

The result is a quiet, smooth-running engine which produces roughly the same output as a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, delivering higher fuel economy and lower emissions. In Europe, besides the Fiesta, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is launched already in the B-MAX and C-MAX models, and will also be offered in the new Mondeo.

EcoBoost combines turbocharging with gasoline direct injection and variable valve timing. This allows the larger engine to be replaced with a smaller one, however with no loss of performance and at least a 20 percent gain in fuel economy.

  • 2014 Ford Fiesta Unveiled

2014-Ford-Fiesta-THUMBThe new dynamic 2014 Ford Fiesta has just been unveiled, showing exclusively its sharper design and a host of exclusive technology features. Furthermore, the new Ford vehicle is going to offer its customers a wide range of advanced technologies.

For example, some of them include the voice-activated in-car connectivity system Ford SYNC, Active City Stop and the European debut of MyKey. It will also draw its power by the acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and will deliver best-in-class fuel economy.

What the designers did here is to retain the popular and well-known visual appearance of the Fiesta, but at the same time giving it more sophisticated look. Fiesta’s face for instance is dominated by a trapezoidal front grille, bracketed by laser-cut headlamps with daytime running lamps that use LED technology.

In addition it also features a power-dome bonnet design. In addition to this the newly redesigned Fiesta also offers a harmonious and ergonomically enhanced interior. The car will also include advanced features such as Active City Stop system and Ford SYNC in-car connectivity system.

The latter also includes Emergency Assistance, which directly connects the vehicle occupants to local emergency services operators after an accident. In the technology pack is also featured for the first time the MyKey, which enables parents in particular to encourage safer driving and limit their teenager’s exposure to risk at the wheel.

In fact, this system also allows owners to configure maximum speed and audio volume limits. It also mutes audio until seat belts are fastened and ensures driver aids, safety systems and more vigorous alerts cannot be deactivated when used.

Ford will reveal more details about the 2014 Fiesta at the Paris Motor Show.

  • What’s in Store at Ford for 2013?

The 2013 model season is an exciting one for the Ford Motor Company. Financially and creatively, Ford is in the midst of a renaissance, and the consumer is already reaping the benefits of that resurgence. This is especially true in the car markets, where the exciting options range from sedans to hatches to coupes. In that spirit, let’s examine the top five car models that will cause a stir at Ford Canada dealers this year.

    Ford Fusion

    Ford Fusion
    Ford Fusion

The Fusion has been a best-seller among mid-size sedans in America for several years, so it surprised many when Ford announced a total redesign. The new model will get a dramatic style overhaul, and consumers will have their choice of three conventional engines or a gas-electric or plug-in hybrid. The base engine will be a 2.5L four-cylinder that makes 170 horsepower. A turbocharged 2.0L makes 237 hp. The Fusion Hybrid uses the 2.0L along with a li-ion battery pack, which lets it outperform the Toyota Camry at 47 mph in the city.

    Ford Focus

    Ford Focus
    Ford Focus

The biggest change with the 2013 edition of the Ford Focus is the ST, a performance model that many are affectionately referring to as the “hot hatch.” The ST is the successor to the Focus SVT, which was available in the early 2000s and gave the best German and Japanese front-wheel-drive compacts a run for their money. The biggest upgrade that the ST brings is a 2.0L direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 252 hp, which is 92 hp more than the standard Focus model makes. The ST includes a 6-speed manual transmission, and Ford does not plan to offer an automatic version.

    Ford Taurus

    Ford Taurus
    Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus boasts a large trunk and a big, comfortable interior, and it is one of the most appealing interpretations of the classic full-size sedan on the market. For 2013, Ford is simply refreshing the exterior and adding an array of conveniences to all trim levels. The biggest change is under the hood, where the base engine will now be a 3.5L V6 that makes 290 hp. The EPA estimates the fuel performance at 19/29/23 city/highway/combined mpg. The standard equipment package is quite nice and includes 17-inch wheels, cruise control, air-conditioning, and a six-speaker audio system.

    Ford Fiesta

    Ford Fiesta
    Ford Fiesta

In North America, there’s been a great deal of focus — pun intended — on the 250-hp ST, but in Europe, the focus has been on the Fiesta, an even smaller hot hatch. The 2013 Fiesta ST, which will also be available in Canada, is a 3-door version of the ST concept car that turned heads at last year’s L.A. auto show. Like the concept, the Fiesta ST has a 1.6L EcoBoost inline-four engine that makes 177 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, and Ford has promised 60 mph in less than seven seconds.

    Ford Mustang

    Ford Mustang
    Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang needs no introduction. It is classic American musclecar, and while there is a new Mustang generation on the horizon, the current one is still a top muscle car and one of the best values on the sports car market. The Mustang is available as coupe and convertible and in six trim levels: V6, V6 Premium, GT, GT Premium, Boss 302, and the Shelby GT500. The basic 3.7L V6 makes 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, and the Shelby 350GT makes a whopping 662 hp and 613 lb-ft of torque.

  • 2012 Ford Fiesta ECOnetic

Ford-Fiesta-ECOnetic-thumbNew Fiestas have started rolling out from Ford Europe’s production line just in time to save the world from the petrol-price situation. Well, it’s not that the Fiestas are new but rather what’s inside them. Ford call it the ECOnetic Technology.

And how eco exactly is the new batch? 3.3l/100km (86.5mpg) on the EU cycle if you ask Ford. We are talking serious penny saving here – CO2 emissions stand at just 87g/km.

With figures like this, one might suspect the involvement of some ghastly plug in hybrid gizmos but that’s not the case here:

“Fiesta is already hugely successful across Europe and the ECOnetic Technology model takes its fuel efficiency and low-CO2 offering to another level,” said Stephen Odell, CEO and chairman, Ford of Europe. “Customers can be assured these significant gains have been achieved without compromising the great driving quality for which Ford is famous.”

Evidently, you get a 95PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel that provides 205Nm of torque. The frugality comes form some pretty clever, yet rather standard features – Auto-Start-Stop, Smart Regenerative Charging, Eco Mode and a light that tells you when’s the best time to shift gears. The engine and gearbox have also been fine-tuned for fuel-friendly driving. Throw in some low-rolling resistance tires, wheel deflectors, a general lower stance and you’re done – the most economical Fiesta ever made.

The ECOnetic Technology is at the core of the company’s plan to make Europe greener. By the end of 2012, half of Ford’s fleet is expected to carry that very same tech.

  • 2011 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCi

Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCi is the best small car winner of Diesel Car magazine’s Used Car of the Year Awards 2012.

It is powered by a 1.4 liter turbo-diesel with 67BHP (49 kW) at 4000RPM and 160Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque at 1750RPM. IT is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

0-100 km/h in 14.9 seconds and a top speed of 162 km/h (101 mph). It returns 67.2 mpg on combined cycle and emits just 110 g/km CO2. The overall weight of the vehicle is 1152 kg.

The new Fiesta is quite spacious inside, despite its small size – 3950 mm in length, 1722 mm in width and 1481 mm in height.

Actually, the small car is very good in every aspect. It rides good and handles well and the wind noise is not very loud. The vehicle is very well isolated, so you can go on long trips without any concerns of inconvenience.

The 1.4 TDCi Fieste Zetec is priced from £13 745 for the 3-door variant and goes up to £14 345 for the 5-door variant.

  • 2013 Ford Fiesta ST at Geneva

2013-Ford-Fiesta-ST-thumbHere’s a preview of Ford’s new Fiesta ST. It’s at Geneva at the moment with plans to go on sale in the UK early next year. It has been four years since the last Fiesta ST and recently the fan base has started feeling uneasy. Now everyone can calm down as this little fellow here is meet their needs.

A four year gap between the two models can only mean one thing: massive improvements in terms of performance. The numbers speak for themselves – 180PS 1.6-litre EcoBoost, 240Nm of torque, 0-62mph in under seven seconds, and top speed of more than 136mph. All the while, CO2 emissions are down by 20 percent in comparison to the old ST.

Hopefully the new Fiesta will have the handling to match the performance. The guys at Team RS have put a lot of their WRC know how in use while working on the chassis which leaves the ST 15 mm lower than a standard Fiesta. The car’s Torque Vectoring Control system and three Electronic Stability Control modes have all been rigorously developed and tested at the Nurburgring.

Inside, Recaro sports seats will provide support for the enthusiastic drive for the first time in a Ford Fiesta. There’s something for the novice drivers as well – the car will be fitted with Ford’s MyKey solution which can limit the car’s power and speed to a certain degree thus effectively preventing your kids to end up in a ditch.

The Fiesta ST is sure to come to Europe, but Ford are considering other markets as well:

“We’re delighted to be bringing a new generation Fiesta ST to our European enthusiasts in 2013 and we’ll have more to say about our plans for other markets in the near future,” said Jost Capito, Ford’s director of Global Performance Vehicles.

    Fingers crossed.

  • All-New Ford Fiesta PowerShift Automatic in India

Ford-Fiesta-India-thumbFord are going to delight the Indian market with a Fiesta that has a state of the art PowerShift automatic gearbox – a dual clutch system that helps with frugality and bets on efficiency and reliability. Ford are in fact so proud of it that they have placed a ‘seal-for-life‘ on it, rendering maintenance unnecessary… or impossible. Anyway. Ford argue that one does not need to change the fluids inside for 10 years or 240 000 km. A 2 year/100 000 km warranty is also provided.

The box can be found in two Fiesta trims – Style and Titanium+. The former will be generously equipped with enough technology such as auto AC, a leather steering wheel and some fog lights. The Titanium+ gets all of that plus leather seats, alloy wheels, park assist and electronically folding wing mirrors.

Power will come from an India special 1.5 L Ti-VCT engine unit that is fully compliant with the country’s emission standards. Working together with the lightweight (no torque-converters and oil sumps inside) PowerShift box, that engine will return around 38 mpg – A class leading fuel economy (the Fiesta in India is a sedan).

The All-new Ford Fiesta (Indian market)
The All-new Ford Fiesta (Indian market)

Other pearls of the Fiesta include the driver aids and safety features. It’s got Cruise Control, Hill-Assist and Grade-Assist (auto descent from a hill on a constant, comfortable speed), ABS, dual airbags and a thing called Creep Function. That sounds a bit disturbing but actually what it is, is a system that allows the car to move slowly without much effort from the driver when in traffic jam.

The car is sound, soundproof, rigid, compact yet spacious, technologically advanced and now, with the addition of the PowerShift automatic, it is also very easy to live with. Ideal for everyday life in India? Why not?
