  • Steve Arpin’s Ford Fiesta Is “Royal Purple”

Steve-Arpin-Royal-Purple-Ford-Fiesta-THUMBSteve Arpin Royal Purple Ford Fiesta has fresh looks and has just been unveiled via the first design sketches. It will show its fresh new appearance when it debut this weekend at the Red Bull Global Rallycross event in New York. This is the fourth race of the series for the 2014 season and it will be held at Nassau Coliseum.

To be more precise, the striking new design is a very colorful decision, which differs from the car’s look in the first three races of the year. This new visual stance will be utilized for the remainder of the 2014 Red Bull GRC season.

Arpin himself said that this Fiesta has the perfect design for the wild and exciting series. And this was the reason he has decided to brighten up the car with the Royal Purple paint scheme and to give it some more color.

The driver will make his 13th start of his Red Bull GRC career in New York. In all of the races he has come in Royal Purple-backed Ford Fiestas. He earned the first podium of his career in the 2014 season opener at Top Gear Festival Barbados. He is currently third in the series’ Supercars championship, being 27 points back of the lead.

The latest Ford Fiesta in company’s range is powered by the updated 1.0 liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine. It produces 140 horsepower (103 kW) that is a result of unique calibration with new settings for turbocharger boost control, valve-timings, intercooler and throttle management. With the new engine, the Fiesta accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 201 km/h (125 mph). The fuel consumption is only 4.5 liters / 100 km with corresponding CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.

  • 2014 Ford Fiesta Red and Black Editions – 1.0 liter EcoBoost

Ford has presented the Red and Black Editions for the new Fiesta coming with a more powerful and efficient 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine than ever. Both models will be available to order now and first deliveries will commence in September.

“These two new Fiestas make an unquestionably bold statement on the road and will give drivers an equally distinctive experience behind the wheel with a sportier version of our 1.0-litre EcoBoost and enhancements to the Fiesta’s acclaimed ride and handling,” commented Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe.

The 3-door models come with front upper and lower grille surrounds, front bumper aerofoil and mirror caps in contrasting colours. There is also a set of 16” Panther Black alloy wheels or optional 17” set. The body kit includes front and rear sports bumpers, side skirts and rear roof spoiler; and the contrasting colour roof on both models has been painted to achieve a consistent and higher quality gloss finish than can be achieved using a foil applique or sticker.

The interior boasts gloss black centre stack and door handles; black leather sports steering wheel and gear lever gaiter with red stitching; black floor mats with red stitching; and charcoal  black sport seats in Ultimate material with contrasting red stitching and bolster exteriors.

The most important is the updated 1.0 liter EcoBoost three-cylinder – 140HP (103 kW). The result is thanks the a unique calibration with new settings for turbocharger boost control, valve-timings, intercooler and throttle management. 0-100 km/h in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h (125 mph). The fuel consumption is just 4.5 liters / 100 km (52.3 mpg US or 62.8 mpg UK) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.

Although that that the manufacturer claims the 1.0 liter EcoBoost has more power per litre than Ferrari 458 Speciale, that’s not quite accurate, because the Italian supercar has a naturally aspirated engine. So, the comparison is pretty irrelevant. However, the small three-cylinder power unit actually has more power per liter than the normal Veyron, but not the Grand Sport model.

  • Ford Unveils Ultra-Lightweight Concept Fusion

Ford Lightweight Concept is a vehicle, which represents Ford’s ongoing research for future light-weight materials. The know-how is based on the experienced gained via the building of the new Ford F-150, which has shed up to 700 pounds through use of high-strength steel and aluminum alloys. In fact, for Ford Motor Company, light-weighting is a key component its Blueprint for Sustainability. The mixed-materials might be applied for future high-volume vehicles for better performance and efficiency as well as CO2 emissions.

Ford Lightweight Concept has reduced the weight of a 2013 Fusion to that of a Ford Fiesta. This means a 25 percent off the weight of the production car. The introduction and incorporation of lightweight materials into vehicle construction has helped reducing the weight of the car. In addition, this also contributes towards better fuel economy and less greenhouse gas emissions.

Along with other fuel-efficiency technologies, light-weighting is fundamental to Ford’s efforts to stabilize carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere at 450 parts per million. Ford’s Lightweight Concept utilizes many of the same advanced materials found in today’s lightweight electronic devices, including aluminum, chemically toughened glass and advanced lightweight plastics.

Advanced materials – aluminum, ultra-high-strength steels, magnesium and carbon fiber, were used for the entire design of the vehicle. This includes the powertrain, chassis, body, battery and interior elements, seats.

This program was lead together with Cosma International, which is a subsidiary of Magna International. Magna’s design and development of the multi-material body-in-white, closures and chassis components are a great contribution in the weight reduction of this concept vehicle. • Datsun Offers Glimpse At Forthcoming Concept Car

Datsun-Concept-Car-shadowDatsun-Concept-Car-mediumJust a quick reminder that Datsun is back. The Nissan-sourced brand will be hitting the markets from this year on in specific areas such India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. So what better way for the company to start gaining media attention than appearing on the Delhi Auto Expo 2014 which kicks off on the 5th of February and will last until the 11th

And here is a sketch of what you should find at the expo when the time comes. It’s a concept car that’s supposed to show the brand’s future design direction.

Frankly, we don’t know how to feel about it. It sort of looks like a sub-compact crossover, and we’ve never been fond of these. Then there’s the styling itself. There seems to be a bit of Ibiza in there, a Ford Fiesta as well; it just doesn’t feel that fresh. Then again, it’s supposed to be accessible and simple. Agree to disagree?

We’ll just have to wait and see the real thing…which won’t be the real thing because it’s a concept, but you know what we mean.
