  • Meet the Athletic Honda Civic Tourer Active Life Concept

Honda Civic Tourer Active Life Concept Rear and Side ViewHonda is going to preview a very interesting concept study at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle is dedicated to outdoors sports fans, specifically for cycling enthusiasts, and this is why it is called Civic Tourer Active Life Concept. Dedicated to the active life, this Civic-based model features a lot of equipment necessary for those who seek adventures. And we are definitely looking forward to see it entering production soon.

The car underlines Tourer’s model class leading cargo space and versatility. As a matter of fact, the concept is a very good example how style and space can perfectly work together. For instance, the exterior is painted in a custom shade, which underlines the athletic design of the car, while the interior features all accessories needed for active lifestyle.

    Sleek and Sporty Exterior

Honda Civic Tourer Active Life Concept Side View

As you can see from the pictures, the external appearance of the car is very sleek and athletic. Designer’s aim was to imbue in this car the sporty and active spirit of its customer’s lifestyle.

The custom paint finish which I was talking about is blue, but the thing here is that it features lower gun metallic gradation and a silver roofline. This further helps in the emphasis of the Civic Tourer’s sleek and aerodynamic design. The car rides on pretty big wheels, 18-inch of size, so that it can tackle almost any terrain. At the rear, we see custom rear bumper, which helps strengthen the dynamic appearance.

    Accessorized Interior

Honda Civic Tourer Active Life Concept Interior

Inside, the cabin also includes one-off theme. The blue shade has been repeated in the form of stitching on the steering wheel and on gear shift. And there is even a hint from the Civic Sport and Civic Type R here, and it is the sporty black roof lining.

At the front, the seats are wrapped in suede and leather. They also include a carbon tape with blue piping, which stretches from the centre and along the upper outer areas of the seat, continuing into the suede door lining.

    More Space Means More Fun

Honda Civic Tourer Active Life Concept Trunk

Believe it or not, the Civic Tourer Active Life Concept makes full use of its 1668 litres trunk space and a low loading height. Some of the features, which I find very cool, and come in this concept are the smart loading rack capable of transporting two bicycles. And there is even a retractable arm which can be extended from the rack, and can help you in the maintenance and repairs. So basically this concept is dedicated to all cycling enthusiasts.

Furthermore, Honda also equipped this Civic with other maintenance accessories like the integrated air pump, the large light on the tailgate, the extended shade area and the retractable bench.

There are also other goodies such as toolbox, bottle holder, water tank and a front wheel holder all integrated within the trunk side lining. Clever storage solutions are not absent. On the contrary, Honda’s designers thought that it would be great if they feature here a special aero shape roof box for the essential cycling accessories such as shoes and helmets.

    Guinness Record Winning Engine

Based on the Honda Civic Tourer, the Active Life Concept is too driven by the 1.6 i-DTEC engine. By the way, the unit made a new Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency thanks to achieving an average of 2.82 litres per 100km (100.31mpg) in a 13,498km (8,387 mile) drive across 24 contiguous EU countries.

And at last, if you want to see the Guinness World Record holder and the new concept as well as Honda’s new model range displayed, then you should definitely visit the Motor Show in Frankfurt, where they all will be on display.

  • Honda Civic Tourer Took One More Trophy!

    Honda Civic Tourer

Honda’s Guinness world record for “lowest fuel consumption” is already a reality! And the tough guy this time is Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC. Do you remember, when we told you about Honda’s ambition to drive through all the European countries in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the vehicle? Yes? Well, it is already over. And the car with both the teammates are now home, celebrating the wonderful achievement.

Let us remind you, that Honda team had the ambition to create one of the most efficient powerplants today and to demonstrate it. How? By going throughout all the European countries and driving about 375 miles a day, for about 7.5 hours a day. The result? 1.6 i-DTEC recorded an average of 100.31 miles per gallon over 8, 387 miles in a 25 day drive across all the 24 EU countries.

As you might remember, behind the wheel of the already famous Honda Civic Tourer were the two members of Honda’s European Research & Development (R&D) team, Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren. In fact, these two gentlemen were with the highest ambitions to demonstrate what the 1.6 i-DTEC is capable of.

    Honda Civic Tourer

The team started the efficient journey from Aalst, Belgium on June, 1st and started the trip with a clockwise direction. They returned from where they have started on June, 25th. What they have recorded is exceeded efficiency of 74.3 mpg, which is more than 25%. Incredible, isn’t it?

SEE ALSO: Honda Team Heads Up for A World Record

Along with the strict rules of Guinness World Records organization, the team had to drive without any modifications or upgrades, or anything else, that will be considered as ‘lowering the toughness’ of the trip. There was even a rule, that the team had to refill the tank to the maximum every time, or else, it will be considered as a weight loss and sort of cheating. In fact, the whole idea was to show the original and unmodified vehicle in action.

    Honda Civic Tourer

Furthermore, Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren are not professional drivers, achieved some additional economy with simple, yet effective tricks. They didn’t drive aggressively, of course, they planned well their trip and they were anticipating and taking seriously the road conditions.

So, what else can we say? Congratulations to the brave team, Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren and the whole Honda crew, who are still working hard to deliver us the most comfortable, efficient and flexible vehicles.

  • Take a Look at this Coupe-Inspired Honda Civic Type R

2017 Honda Civic Type R Coupe RenderThis Honda will be praised or it will be hated, there is no interstitial opinion. The Type R coupe rendering has been a result of the work of Wild Speed, but we found it at CivicX forum, where people actually loved it. The renderings are only two (unfortunately), but they are so exquisitely made that it looks like a real car. We only wish!

It is obvious that this Type R version is a consequence of the recently released Civic Coupe concept shown in New York. As a matter of fact, the company is actually launching the redesigned versions of the Civic range this fall.

The happy news is that the tenth-generation model will keep the great performance characteristics and fantastic design, with sedan, coupe, hatch and Si models featured in the line-up. Oh, and of course the irresistible Type R.

Let’s focus on the car we see here. It has more aggressive body, new quad exhaust system which is obviously borrowed by Chevy’s Stingray, and some other typical Type R accents here and there.

If we take for granted that this car would have the output of the current generation, then this means that its unit will produce is 310 hp (228 kW) at 6,500 rpm, and 400 Nm (303 lb-ft) at 2,500 rpm. The 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration sprint will be covered in just 5.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 270 km/h (167 mph).

As a Type R fan, I personally love it, but I wonder what your thoughts about it are?

  • Tenth-Gen Civic Previewed via Concept Version at NYIAS

Honda Civic Concept Side ViewHonda Civic Concept is so hot that it could only be revealed at the New York Auto Show. The company is actually preparing to launch the redesigned versions of the Civic range this fall. The tenth-generation cars will keep the great performance characteristics and fantastic design. In the lineup, Honda will feature a sedan, coupe and Si model. Oh, and of course, my two favourites: the hatchback and Type R.

The cars will be built on a longer wheelbase. As we can see from the pictures of the concept it is obvious that it stands also lower to the ground and has this wider stance. Precisely, the hood is longer, while the front overhang and rear deck are shorter.

The aggressive look of the car is further strengthened by the prominent fender arches and the new wheel-to-body relationship. At the front we see new LEDs on the both sides of the “Flying H” grille. The latter is supported by deeply sculpted lower air intakes.

The next big thing about the new Civic is that it will be powered by the 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine from the Earth Dreams Technology series. The unit includes direct injection and is linked to either a six-speed manual transmission or an efficient continuously variable transmission (CVT). In this way more efficiency is guaranteed, right?

In terms of safety, the Civic concept and all its future siblings will be equipped with Honda Sensing suite. It is filled with advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies like the Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control and Honda LaneWatch.

All in all, this concept tells me that the new Civic range will have even more to expect, and I am pretty excited about it. How about you?

  • Honda fans Celebrate Civic Type R at Nürburgring [VIDEO]

Honda Civic Type R Side and Rear View One of my most favorite debuts at this year’s Geneva Motor Show was the last generation Honda Civic Type R. In order to celebrate its release, the Japanese company decided to invite fans to the Nürburgring circuit. This is where the Type R has set a lap record for a front-wheel drive hot hatch. This is also where the red badged Civic drivers are offered the chance to attend the historic ADAC Zurich 24-hour sports car race in their Type Rs.

The even will happen between 15 and 17 May and will feature (for the first time ever) the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) race. It will be held on both Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuits that measure 25 kilometers, combined. The most important individuals in the team will be Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, who will aim at no less than victory.

What is more, the one-off event will offer Type R fans the opportunity to purchase a three-day package, including VIP entrance with paddock access, camping accommodation in a special souvenir tent, food and beverages, and most importantly the chance to meet the drivers in person and visit the pit lane by taking their Civic on a lap around the circuit. This of course will happen before the start of the 24 hour race.

  • Honda Civic Type R is Finally Here [VIDEO]

After five long years the new Honda Civic Type R is here! The hatch was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show two days ago, thus giving all fans (me as well) the pleasure of viewing one of the most anticipated cars. And the question is simple: Is the wait worth it?  I’m going to talk about this in a minute after previewing what’s new in the Type R.

First and foremost, the red ‘H’ badged car will be driven by the 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO engine, which finds its world-first application here. In fact, in Type R’s 22 years of history this is the most extreme and high-performing engine used.

Regarding the details, the maximum power that this unit can produce is 310 hp (228 kW) at 6,500 rpm, and the optimum torque is 400 Nm (303 lb-ft) at 2,500 rpm. And if you are a Honda fan than you’ll definitely know that these numbers are higher than any previous ones. Although I did expect more from the performance of this car, it is still satisfactory for a front-wheel driven hatch.

The 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration sprint is covered in just 5.7 seconds and the top speed is of 270 km/h (167 mph).

In terms of styling we see the typical Civic Type R form, but there are some details that need to be mentioned and I find very intriguing. First, the car was subject to substantial aerodynamic analysis and testing. As a result the development of the car continued via computer-based CFD modelling and wind tunnel testing, and later with extensive prototype testing on the road and on track.

Rear diffuser and rear wing have been both redesigned as well as the wide front splitter and deep side skirts. Heat is managed via the enlarged upper and lower grilles in the front bumper, while the airflow is channelled to outlet vents above the wheels.

Speaking of wheels, the car rides on lightweight 19-inch alloys fitted with 235/35R19 tyres that were specially made for the Type R. Brembo brake package is what takes car for the stopping power of the car. At the front there are four-piston calipers with 350 mm drilled discs.

Besides the Championship White exterior color, this Civic will be also offered in the pearlescent Crystal Black, metallic Polished Metal and Brilliant Sporty Blue as well as in Milano Red.

In terms of interior, we have nothing much different than the previous generation model. And this is where I am little disappointed, because I have obviously expected more. Take for instance the gear lever knob which is made from machined aluminium alloy. The black sports seats and the red double stitching are also present.

Nevertheless two innovative things about this Honda immediately grab the attention. The first one is the ‘+R’button and the second is the GT Pack. The ‘+R’ button increases the response of the chassis and drivetrain systems. As a result the driver will get better driving experience. But before we test the car we can’t say if this is true.

Also exclusive to the Type R is the GT Pack which gives those needed individual enhancements. Here are included front red highlights and rear splitters, rear parking sensors, dusk sensing headlamps, rain sensing automatic wipers and electric fold door mirrors, and many more.

Unfortunately, this option is only possible for the UK.

The new hot hatch will be in the showrooms next year. Honde promises that this will be the most extreme and high-performing Type R in the 22 year history of the red ‘H’ badge. In addition, it will bring about the beginning of a new performance era for the brand.

2015 Civic Type R was developed and engineered for European drivers. The new model will also mark the debut of the new ‘+R’ button. It is positioned to the side of the steering wheel. With one press, it activates the ‘+R’ mode, which delivers the most exhilarating driving experience.

  • 2015 Civic Type R Presents Honda’s “Other Side”

2015 Honda Civic Type R is probably on of the most anticipated cars these days. It is soon to be launched and for this reason the Japanese company has released an interactive online film yesterday, which brings to life the brand’s “other side”. And if you want to know what is it, then you’ll definitely have to find out yourself. All right, all right, a spoiler here is that Honda’s “other side” is born from a racing heritage and thirst for innovation. And this is what this campaign heroes.

The new Civic Type R will be the most extreme and high-performing wearing the ‘Red H’ badge. As the film hints, the car is the wild child alter-ego of the Civic hatchback. An this is how the high-adrenaline dual narrative begins. The story unfolds in two parallel tales, one set during the day and the other at night.

During the day, a father is picking his daughter up from school in his white Civic. He is driving her to a surprise party. As a contrast enters the night-time narrative, which shows the father’s other side, which is an undercover cop driving a crew of art thieves to a police sting, in a head-turning red Type R.

The Other Side film opens with the Civic in the daytime. Then come titles prompting interaction as they roll. The person viewing all this can switch between the Civic and the Type R narrative, simply by pressing the ‘R’ button on their keyboard. In addition, the press of the ‘R’ button puts the director’s cut into the viewers’ hands. This allows them to switch in real time between two mirrored story lines

  • 2015 Honda Civic Type R Concept Previews the Next-Gen Hatch

2015-Honda-Civic-Type-R-THUMB2015 Honda Civic Type R is debuting at the Paris Motor Show and we can’t hide that we are eagerly anticipating it. Just a couple of days ahead of the official premiere, Honda has released additional further details of the iconic Type R. The Japanese company is promising that this version of the model will be the most extreme and high-performing Type R in the 22 year history of the red ‘H’ badge.

Straight to the details, the Civic Type R will be powered by a 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine. This powertrain comes from Honda’s next-generation Earth Dreams Technology series. It generates more than 280 horsepower (205 kW), thus delivering unmatched performance when compared to the previous generations. The engine of this Civic model will be coupled with a six-speed manual transmission.

In addition, the model will be fully complying with strict Euro 6 emissions regulations. The new unit benefits from a turbocharger, which boosts low-end power delivery. With the addition of the VTEC technology, this Type R promises to deliver a sensational driving experience.

Another debut in the 2015 Type R will make the new ‘+R’ button, which is located to the side of the steering wheel. The ‘+R’ mode will deliver the most exhilarating driving experience. In this mode, the engine responsiveness is heightened, with torque-mapping changed to a more aggressive and performance-focused setting. Additionally, the steering becomes more responsive, and when it is combined with the new four-point Adaptive Damper System, it offers the ultimate handling experience.

The second instance for company’s innovative approach is car’s ‘steer axis’. The new Type R’s front suspension system includes this additional mechanical system, which features two supporting ‘kingpins’ that work to decrease torque steer. This in turn allows the driver to fully exploit the Type R‘s driveability.

Honda also revealed that the Type R will be equipped with new four-point Adaptive Damper System. It has been specifically developed for the new Type R. The system automatically adjusts front and rear suspension damping force stiffness in a split second, in order to suit driving conditions.

2015 Honda Civic Type R has been designed and engineered for European drivers, and will be arriving in dealerships in 2015.

  • 2015 Honda Civic Sport Unveiled Ahead of Paris Debut

2015-Honda-Civic-Sport-THUMBJust ahead of the 2014 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, Honda has released the first details and images of the revised 2015 Honda Civic Sport. In general there are enhancements made across the entire Swindon built 2015 Civic model range, which will be revealed on 2nd of October when the show starts. First, both the Civic and Civic Tourer have new front exterior design. They look sportier due to the addition of new headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and a new sleek front bumper. The hatchback model also features LED rear combination lamps as well as new rear bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler finished in black.

Inside, the 2015 models also receive a specification upgrade. There are used new seatfabrics and stitching on the headrests, new door trims with chrome door handles and a control panel, which is finished in a metallic black. The interior is cosy and spacious, and still keeps its class-leading interior space. In fact, Civic’s 477-litre and Civic Tourer’s 624-litre boot capacity remain the best in their respective segments.

To the range will be also introduced the Honda Connect in-car audio and information system. It delivers convenience and connectivity for the occupants whilst on the road. The system includes key features such as AM/FM, DAB and Internet Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, internet browsing, satellite navigation and rear-view parking camera. Furthermore, this system runs Android 4.0.4 and features the familiar pinch, swipe and tap functionality of a smartphone on a seven inch display screen.

The star of the show will be the Civic Sport derivative, which has been based on the Civic hatchback. The car is driven by the 1.6-litre, 120 hp (88 kW) diesel engine or the 1.8-litre, 142 hp (104 kW) petrol unit.

It stands out from the crowd thanks to its colour-coded rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels that are unique to the Sport derivative. More importantly, Honda disclosed that the Civic Sport echoes the striking design of the forthcoming Type R with a new front bumper featuring a lower grille mesh and a black roof lining for the cabin.

Every single model in the updated Civic range will benefit from the addition of Honda’s City- Brake Active (CTBA) system as standard. CTBA was specifically designed to help avoid or mitigate low speed accidents. It operates at speeds below 30 km/h and utilizes radar technology to scan the road ahead, automatically applying the brakes if a risk of collision is detected.
