  • 2016 Chevrolet Camaro – Redesigned And Worth Waiting For [VIDEO]

2016-chevrolet-camaro-THUMBAlthough there are no official images of the sixth generation Camaro yet (credit to those featured in the article goes to the designers), the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is promised to look different than before. What was announced was that there aren’t going to be many differences in terms of style, so we are to see the iconic Camaro design for sure.

However, Chevrolet is promising an evolutionary design and entirely new engineering under the skin of the car. We are almost sure that the new Camaro will be probably lighter and smaller in size as well as more agile, since rumors are pointing at all-new vehicle architecture.

These changes are a result of the philosophy of the bran to follow the trend which demands mainstream performance cars that deliver great fuel economy and satisfying driving experience. What is more, the rear-wheel drive system which is to be featured was already introduced to Cadillac’s ATS and CTS models, and it will serve in terms of reducing weight.

Unofficial forums over the internet also discuss the possible powertrains that will drive the sixth-gen model: 2.0 liter turbocharged I4 LTG, 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 LFX and twin turbo V6 LF3, V8 Small Block, and 6.2 and 7.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 Small Block LT1.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be officially premiered at next year’s Detroit Motor Show. Below, you can watch a video showing some of the possible future designs of the car. Stay tuned!

  • 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 – Grip Problem

A very strange problem occurred with the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. As we well know, the performance car is extremely fast, so fast even that it provides more traction than the wheels can handle.

The engineers noticed that the wheels rotate inside the tire, which kind of unexpected challenge that requires fast thinking. Obviously the main reason are brakes, which provide excessive stopping power.

“We were told to build a fast car – period,” commented Mark Stielow, Camaro Z/28 program manager and pro-touring expert.

“We knew on Day One we’d need to bring some of the best suppliers onboard to make it happen.”, he added.

Some of the suppliers included Pirelli and its P Zero™ Trofeo R tires and Brembo for carbon-ceramic brake rotors. The Trofeo R tires have a track-oriented tread design and compound that, together with the carbon-ceramic rotors, help the Z28 achieve up to 1.5 g in deceleration force.

It was a perfect combination, but engineers quickly found that when the Z28’s capability was tested, the wheels were rotating – slipping – inside the tires. They sought the root of the problem by marking one of the Pirelli P Zero™ Trofeo R tires at the beginning of a lap with a chalk line relative to the valve stem on the wheel. At the end of the lap, they recorded where the chalk line ended up and noticed the tire had rotated at least a full 360 degrees from where they started.

The solution was media blasting, which involves shooting a gritty material through an air gun at the wheel’s surface, adding texture to the paint for the tire to grip.

  • Advanced Materials Reduce Weight Of 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

2015-Chevrolet-Colorado-SteelStructure-THUMBWhat’s new about 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is that it has been built with engineering techniques and lightweight materials. The result is a true pickup capability in a mass-efficient midsize package. In fact, the new 4×4 crew cab weighs 880 to 1,400 less than a full-size truck.

To be more precise, the savings in weight are result of the smaller overall dimensions of the model as well as the extensive utilization of lightweight materials such as high-strength steels and aluminum.

In overall size, Colorado is 212.76 inches long, 74.3 inches wide, but still can deliver up to 6,700 pounds of towing capability. In the design and construction of this Colorado, GM engineers have utilized materials that would guarantee strength, safety and refinement, and at the same time – dependability.

Lightweight, high-strength steels are used for the creation of the fully boxed frames, thus delivering less weight and more stiffness for a quieter ride and better handling. About 71 percent of the body structure is comprised of high-strength steels. In addition, the pickup box consists of roll-formed steel that is lighter and stronger than traditional stamped steel.

To go even further into details, the major aluminum components feature the hood, front steering knuckles, and cylinder heads and engine blocks for both the 2.5L four cylinder and 3.6L V-6 engines. At the front, there is composite grille opening reinforcement with active shutters that seals the front of the truck, reducing aerodynamic drag and improving cooling performance.

The electric power steering not only helps improve steering assist but also contributes for the weight savings. Speaking about the engines, both include direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing. The standard one is the 2.5L four cylinder unit which produces 193 horsepower (142 kW), while the available V-6 powertrain generates 302 horsepower (222 kW).

2015 Chevrolet Colorado will be available in dealerships this fall.

  • World Premiere: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R Racecar

At the North American Auto Show Chevrolet made two exclusive premieres. The first on is of the breath taking Corvette Z06, whereas the second – of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R Racecar. Both cars were co-developed and represent the closest link between Corvettes built for the road and for racing. They share the masterful engineering of brand’s specialists and are equipped with new technologically advanced components in terms of chassis architecture, engine and aerodynamics.

For the racing season this year, Corvette Racing will enter two C7.Rs which will compete at the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona in ten days as well as the GT Le Mans class in 11 races around North America. It is also expected to be confirmed the participation of the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

In 2013 Corvette Racing won five races and this success was due to the technology transfer between Corvette production cars and race cars. Many of the architectural and aerodynamic features of the C7R are based on equivalent components and technologies found in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

For instance, the first one is the brand new aluminum frame, which was built with the extensive utilization of advanced manufacturing materials such as laser welding, Flow-drill-machined fasteners and a GM-patented aluminum spot-welding process. The goal was to make a production structure for the cars which is much stronger than previous ones.

The second feature that both cars share in common is the direct fuel injected engine. It is created in such way that it delivers greater efficiency and can make a significant difference in long-distance endurance racing such as Daytona and Le Mans through fewer time-consuming pit stops.

In the aspect of aerodynamics, Corvette C7.R features forward-tilted radiator, functional hood and front-quarter panel vents, and rear transmission and differential cooling intakes. Z06 and C7.R share strategies for improved cooling and aerodynamic downforce, including similar front splitters, rocker panels, and front- and rear-brake cooling ducts.

Of course, there are differences between both cars and they are mainly defined by the limitations of GT rules. First of all, C7.R has the same powertrain as the C6.R that has a displacement of 5.5L, and has no forced induction. In comparison, Z06 is equipped with supercharged 6.2L unit which develops 625 horsepower (460 kW). Despite these differences, both engines are based on the historic small block architecture.

The racecar is also built with modified suspension because of the wider racing tires and larger brakes, according to the GT regulations. The ducts on the C7.R can be seen on each of the rear quarter panels, above the brake ducts, which will draw air to help cool the race car’s transaxle and differential.

In addition, the rear wing has been made more more-significant part of vehicle’s aero package. A larger radiator inlet generates smoother airflow over the rear wing and makes its use more efficient to the handling and stability of the C7.R at higher speed.
