  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R

Chevrolet today debuted the new Corvette Z06 GT3.R racecar, a year before it makes its competition debut at the 2024 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Making its public debut at Daytona International Speedway ahead of Saturday’s Rolex 24, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R is Chevrolet’s first racecar that fully meets FIA technical regulations for GT3 cars.

Design and development of the mid-engine Z06 GT3.R is a collaboration between GM’s Competition Motorsports Engineering division and Pratt Miller Engineering. With an eye specifically toward customer racing, the Z06 GT3.R will be eligible for multiple championships in North America and around the world with a high level of parts and technical support available for its customers.

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R will race for the first time as part of the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category at the 2024 Rolex 24 At Daytona to open next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“The Corvette Z06 GT3.R breaks new ground for Chevrolet and the Corvette Racing program,” said Mark Stielow, director, GM Motorsports Engineering Competition. “This customer-focused racecar leverages learnings from throughout Corvette Racing’s lengthy and successful history, plus the expertise of our Corvette production design, engineering and powertrain teams.”

    Track and street

The Z06 GT3.R is a landmark racing vehicle for Chevrolet. Based on the highly acclaimed mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Z06 supercar, this new race car takes the level of technology transfer between racing and production to a new level with more shared components and features than ever before.

“Corvette Racing has been an important influence on the design of Corvette production cars for 25 years,” said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer, Corvette. “Corvette production and racing teams worked together closely in development to maximize the benefits of a mid-engine design, sharing lessons learned that set both programs up for all-out performance on the track.”

The Z06 GT3.R begins its life as an aluminum chassis frame from Chevrolet’s Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky[i]. The frame provides a lightweight yet strong and durable underpinning for both Z06 and Z06 GT3.R. Once in Michigan at Pratt Miller, a purpose-built steel roll cage is welded onto a base plate, which is secured to the chassis.

A double-wishbone suspension at the front and rear promotes a higher level of adjustability and fitment of racing-specific tire sizes. This is the same front and rear suspension configuration as on the Z06 production vehicle.

The motorsports engineering team added race springs and dampers, competition-specific rotors, calipers and pads. The Z06 GT3.R rides on 18-inch front and rear wheels — the same as on the C8.R.

Advanced aerodynamic strategies also link the road-going Corvette and its GT3 counterpart. Motorsports engineers worked with the GM Design Studio to develop an aero package specific to the Z06 GT3.R to optimize levels of downforce, stability, drag reduction and cooling.

The goal was to design a GT3-spec Corvette that is suitable across different tire specifications, balance-of-performance settings and other customer preferences while not sacrificing performance or drivability on a variety of tracks and racing surfaces.

In order to enhance performance of the Z06 and Z06 GT3.R, each uses similar carbon fiber splitters which provide optimal downforce at the front of the vehicles. On the underside of the Z06 GT3.R, a new and purpose-designed carbon fiber diffuser routes air from the front of the car toward the rear in order to create an optimal level of overall stability.

The underbody aerodynamic devices work together in complementing the functionality of a new-for-2024 wing that aids in airflow at the rear of the Z06 GT3.R and the creation of downforce for enhanced cornering ability.

Aggressive and efficient ducting will move air to cool internal components. Intakes at the front of the Z06 GT3.R draw in air to cool the front brakes. A single, large opening on the hood — a new design philosophy from the C8.R — extracts out air after it moves over the radiator.

From the top of the windshield to the rear of the car, the surface elements of the Z06 stayed intact for the Z06 GT3.R, accentuating the tie between production and racing. Most notable are side air ducts behind the doors — directly inspired by Z06 production road car — that help to cool the engine, transaxle and rear brakes.

Corvette production power for Z06 GT3.R

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R will feature a 5.5L, flat-plane crankshaft DOHC V-8 engine derived from the production Z06. This engine began on-track development in 2019 with the initial testing of the C8.R, ahead of its use in the production Z06.

The LT6 engine for the GT3.R originates from the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, the same line on which all production Corvette Z06 engines are built.

The 5.5L powerplant shares more than 70 percent of its parts with the production Z06 engine, including the crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder heads, fuel injectors, coils, gaskets and a variety of other sensors.

“Racing continues to play a key role in the development of our production engines,” said Russ O’Blenes, director, Performance and Racing Propulsion Team. “There were valuable lessons learned during the C5-R through C7.R programs that aided in the development of our V-8 engines for production and racing — many dealing with efficiency, materials and light-weighting. The flow of information from Corvette Racing to production engineering and back has helped us build race and street-car engines that are fast, reliable and efficient.”

    Safety structure features

Chevrolet and Pratt Miller have worked together to incorporate a number of features into the GT3.R, building on safety construction from the C8.R.  The Z06 GT3 features a side-impact crash structure between the driver’s side door and roll cage. Pioneered in the C7.R, the box features an outer casing of carbon fiber and Kevlar, and is filled with an aluminum honeycomb construction.

The GT3 Corvette’s integrated steel roll cage is slightly modified from the current racing Corvette to provide easier ingress and egress.

    Testing

The reveal of the Z06 GT3.R follows a two-year testing program. Virtual simulation through Chevrolet’s Driver in the Loop simulator began in early 2021.

The first on-track test of the Z06 GT3.R took place in September 2022 — which means the Z06 GT3.R will have a full year of on-track development when it gets into the hands of customers in the third quarter of 2023.

“We’re all very pleased with the results from the track testing program so far,” said Laura Wontrop Klauser, GM sports car racing program manager. “What’s even more encouraging is the correlation between simulator sessions and what we’re finding in the real-world track testing. It’s another level of validation that gives us confidence in the development process.”

    Driven by success

The Z06 GT3.R is the latest in a line of championship-winning Corvette race cars that date back to the late 1990s and the introduction of Corvette Racing and the Corvette C5-R. Entering its 25th season, the program has scored 122 race victories around the world, including 113 in IMSA competition.

Those wins have led to 14 Manufacturer’s and Driver’s championships and 15 Team titles. No team in IMSA history has won more races or championships than Corvette Racing in that span.

The mid-engine C8.R — the predecessor of the Z06 GT3.R — has won 15 times around the world since its on-track debut in 2020. The 2023 season will be its second and last with a dual program in both the WeatherTech Championship and the FIA WEC. The latter will move from the current GTE regulations to the global GT3 platform beginning in 2024.

    Customer support and options

Chevrolet and Corvette Racing is establishing a complete customer support program that will be available to teams running the Z06 GT3.R in North America and elsewhere around the world.

An at-track parts truck will be a fixture at North American race events starting in 2024 with expansion to overseas support ramping up in the first two years of the Z06 GT3.R program.

Corvette Racing will carry full spares packages of bodywork and internal components for its customer teams in supported championships. On the technical side, engineers will assist teams with items such as pre-race documentation, including chassis setup and data sharing plus post-event documentation, data analysis, and relative comparisons.

Full engineering, race strategy and other items also are incremental support options for Corvette Z06 GT3.R customer teams.

Customer integration doesn’t stop at the racetrack. Corvette Racing and GM Motorsports engineers will be available for remote engineering and operations support,

“Supporting our customers is an area where we are putting in a lot of time and effort,” said Christie Bagne, GM assistant sports car racing program manager. “With this being our first customer GT3 offering, we have had meetings with many prospective customers to learn from their previous experiences, find what is important to them from a support standpoint and come up with a program that meets their expectations.”

  • Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

Exactly 70 years after the Corvette debuted at Motorama in New York City, Chevrolet has returned to introduce the first-ever electrified Corvette with all-wheel-drive and a powerful 6.2L LT2 Small Block V-8, the 2024 E-Ray.

“In 1953, the enthusiastic reaction to the Chevrolet Corvette concept kicked off seven decades of passion, performance and American ingenuity,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors president. “E-Ray, as the first electrified, all-wheel-drive Corvette, takes it a step further and expands the promise of what Corvette can deliver.”

Developed to be the Corvette owners can arrive in anywhere, no matter the season, the new E-Ray — available in removeable roof coupe and hardtop convertible models — uses electrification to enhance the driving experience with intense straight-line performance, all-weather confidence and sure-footed grand touring capabilities that can only be achieved with eAWD.

E-Ray is also the only sports car pairing two separate propulsion systems to provide naturally aspirated V-8 power with electrified responsiveness powered by eAWD, making it one like none.

“Corvette has been a halo for Chevrolet since 1953,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “E-Ray’s unprecedented blend of confidence, luxury performance, sophistication and style provides a new reason for more people to experience Corvette.”

The E-Ray is the quickest production Corvette in history, clocking a 2.5-second 0-60 mph time before breezing through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.

“Corvettes must provide an exhilarating driving experience on backroads and tracks, and E-Ray nails it,” said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer, Corvette. “The electrification technology enhances the feeling of control in all conditions, adding an unexpected degree of composure.”

A near immediate feeling of thrust from low-end torque is core to the Corvette driving experience, and the E-Ray packs plenty of it. Power comes from the 6.2L LT2 Small Block V-8, putting 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. It is complemented by an electric motor that channels an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels via a 1.9 kWh battery pack, which is located between the seats. In total, E-Ray produces a combined 655 horsepower from both the electric motor and Small Block V-8.

    Creating its own lane

E-Ray’s intelligent eAWD system is constantly learning the road surface, seamlessly adapting to meet traction conditions and driver needs. During spirited driving and in low traction environments, E-Ray’s eAWD system applies additional power to the front wheels, helping to enhance vehicle stability.

There is no need for plug-in charging for the E-Ray’s battery system. The battery is charged via regenerative energy from coasting and braking, as well as during normal driving.

Additional features and technologies of the all-new E-Ray include:

    • Stealth Mode, an electric drive mode for the street, up to 45 mph
    • New lightweight lithium-ion 12-volt battery that supports the LT2 V-8 engine’s stop/start functionality
    • Standard Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system for optimal braking performance
    • Standard Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 with three distinct suspension settings
    • Staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires are available with an optional performance package
    • Low, wide stance with crafted body styling that is 3.6 inches wider overall than Stingray
    • Visceral sound experience that embodies the car’s dominating presence. The electric front motor works in harmony with the LT2 engine to create an invigorating sound
    • Enhanced roster of driver assistance technologies (shared with all 2024 Corvette models), including Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking.

    Electrified propulsion details

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray’s electrified propulsion system provides exhilarating acceleration to power out of corners and effortlessly complete passing maneuvers. It can also provide limited all-electric propulsion at the driver’s discretion upon startup.

E-Ray’s standard Active Fuel Management system uses the electric motor to extend 4-cylinder operation in various driving scenarios.

The amount of electric assist is tailored within each of the Corvette E-Ray’s six driver-selectable modes: Tour, Sport, Track, Weather, My Mode and Z-Mode. Drivers can also select the Charge+ feature which maximizes the battery’s state of charge.

E-Ray Performance App on the infotainment system provides the driver with technical insights into how the propulsion system is operating. There are three primary display layouts:

    • Gauges (displays dynamic power output from electric motor and V-8 engine)
    • Dyno (provides graph of power/torque across selectable time intervals)
    • Data (showcases electrical system performance and efficiency).

The Corvette E-Ray’s electric motor over the front axle is compact, preserving space in the front storage compartment.

Stealth Mode and tracking the E-Ray

The Corvette E-Ray’s two driver-initiated electric modes enable the car to travel under electric propulsion in certain conditions. The electric motor also optimizes track performance.

Stealth Mode enables all-electric driving, when selected at start-up, for a period of time before the engine turns on for normal driving. It is designed for quietly exiting a neighborhood, with a maximum speed of 45 mph. The engine automatically engages if the vehicle’s speed exceeds the limit, additional torque is requested by the driver, or the E-Ray’s battery pack is depleted.

When it comes to leveraging the electrified propulsion system for enhanced track performance, E-Ray’s eAWD control system applies torque to the front axle as needed. The Charge+ feature can be used to maximize battery state of charge for extended lapping.

The custom-designed Performance Traction Management (PTM) modes are optimized in concert with the eAWD propulsion system.

    Distinguished design

E-Ray’s appearance builds on the refined athletic styling and performance-driven design Corvette customers know and love.

At a glance, the E-Ray shares its purposeful, wide-body proportions with the Z06, accommodating wide wheels that help manage the car’s greater torque delivery. The lightweight alloy wheels have a twisted five-spoke star design that is exclusive to E-Ray.

“There’s never been a Corvette like E-Ray and its sophisticated design reflects that,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “It starts with the body color trim which draws your full attention to the exotic proportions of the E-Ray. The interiors allow customers to reflect their individual personalities with their choice of color executions that provide a refined or dynamic sport look and feel.”

    E-Ray design highlights include:

    • Four aluminum wheel finishes
    • Fourteen exterior color choices — including new for 2024 Riptide Blue, Seawolf Gray and Cacti
    • An E-Ray-exclusive body-length stripe package in Electric Blue
    • Standard carbon flash badging
    • Available black exhaust tips and bright badging
    • Available carbon fiber ground effects
    • Optional carbon fiber wheels in carbon flash, visible carbon fiber finish or visible carbon fiber with a red stripe

The E-Ray also introduces the all-new Artemis Dipped interior, which features complementary deep green tones on nearly every interior surface and will only be available on 2024 Corvettes. There are multiple options for customers to select when it comes to personalizing their E-Ray’s interior including two carbon fiber trim packages, three seat choices, seven interior colors, and more.

Additionally, there are new Charge+ and Stop/Start buttons on the console and updates to the infotainment system and instrument cluster aimed at providing a more integrated appearance.

This is an entry-level vehicle that will surprise and delight customers with its value and plays a critical role as the gateway into the Chevy brand.”

Five distinct personalities — LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS and ACTIV — offer design and content choices, while all trims add enhanced features and technologies, including:

    • Chevy Safety Assist2 with six advanced safety and driver awareness technologies
    • Larger infotainment3 screens — a standard 8-inch-diagonal system and an 11-inch-diagonal screen on LT, 2RS and ACTIV trims
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay4 and Android Auto5 capability
    • LED headlamps
    • 17-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch wheels
    • Four-wheel disc brakes
    • Active Noise Cancellation

Additional new features on most trims include push-button start, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging6 and more. Cruise control is also standard equipment on all models and Adaptive Cruise Control2 is available on some trims, a first for Trax.

The new Trax is powered by a 1.2L turbocharged inline-three engine rated at a GM-estimated 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. It is matched with a proven six-speed automatic transmission. The turbo contributes to excellent on-demand power, particularly for passing maneuvers and on-ramp acceleration.

    Modern and purposeful design

Longer, lower and wider than the current model, the 2024 Trax introduces an athletic, muscular design inspired by the Chevrolet Blazer.

“The bold exterior and tech-forward interior design of the all-new Trax redefines what an entry-level vehicle can be,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “It demonstrates that modern, stylish design doesn’t have to come at a premium.”

At the front, sleek horizontal lines emphasize the vehicle’s width and are designed around the lines of the iconic Chevy bowtie at the center of the grille, which flow outward to the slim, Blazer-inspired headlamps that feature all-new LED lighting elements. Chevy-signature high-eye LED daytime running lamps make the Trax more visible, day or night.

A sleeker side profile is enhanced by a 4-inch-lower (101 mm) overall height than the current model, while strong “shoulders” in the body contribute to a taut, muscular presence and strong stance.

Each trim has specific design cues, including specific grille designs and wheels, as well as unique décor, depending on the model:

    • LS and LT feature clean, straightforward designs, with additional bright trim on LT. 17-inch steel wheels are standard on LS and 17-inch machined aluminum wheels are standard on LT.
    • RS trims offer the Trax’s sportiest design with additional exterior trim accents, as well as a unique grille with an embedded RS badge. The 1RS trim includes unique 18-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels and the 2RS features 19-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels.
    • The new ACTIV has a monochromatic look including titanium chrome accents and an aggressive-looking rear skid plate motif. It also features unique black 18-inch wheels.

New dimensions enhance driving experience, spaciousness

The new Trax’s larger dimensions pay dividends when it comes to the driving experience and interior spaciousness, with its nearly 6-inch-longer wheelbase and wider track offering more composed ride and handling characteristics, compared to the current model.

Inside, the 11-inch greater length and 2-inch greater width than the current model translates into greater roominess and cargo capacity, including 3 inches more rear legroom, which increases comfort for rear-seat passengers, and maximum cargo capacity that increases by nearly 12%.

    Technology-forward interior

Trax’s interior was designed to have a lightweight feel, achieved with sweeping lines and light, technical cues that emphasize the vehicle’s width and create a sense of airiness — all enabled by the vehicle’s longer, lower and wider platform.

The low instrument panel enhances outward visibility and contributes to the feeling of airiness, while a technical texture pattern sweeps across, adding depth. Other elements take inspirations from other recent Chevy performance vehicle designs, including signature round vents and more.

Display screens are the centerpiece of the tech-forward design, with the infotainment screen canted slightly toward the driver, for more intuitive control. LS and 1RS trims feature an 8-inch-diagonal infotainment color touchscreen, while LT, 2RS and ACTIV have an 11-inch-diagonal infotainment color touchscreen and an 8-inch-diagonal driver information center.

The different trims also receive their own décor and accents, including:

    • LT features black seats with Sky Cool Gray accents
    • 2RS features red accents on the seats and a racing-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel
    • ACTIV features Evotex seats with yellow accents
    • RS and ACTIV trims feature black bowtie emblems

Additional standard and available content include:

    • Center console with ergonomically optimized shifter location
    • An electronic parking brake opens up more storage space in the console
    • Four bottle holders and two cupholders
    • Heated front seats, steering wheel and outside mirrors are standard on 1RS, 2RS and ACTIV and available on LT. Heated front seats and outside mirrors are available on LS
    • Remote start standard on 1RS, LT, 2RS and ACTIV and available on LS
    • Automatic climate control, push-button start and added rear-seat USB ports on LT, 2RS and ACTIV
    • Power-adjustable driver’s seat on ACTIV
    • Available sunroof

For the first time on Trax, customers can wirelessly connect Apple CarPlay4 or Android Auto5 to the infotainment system, while wireless phone charging6 is a new available feature on LT, 2RS and ACTIV. Trax also continues to offer Wi-Fi Hotspot capability7.

    Chevy Safety Assist and more

When it comes to safety and driver awareness technology, the 2024 Trax ups the ante with new, standard Chevy Safety Assist2 — a suite of six advanced safety and driver awareness technologies that include:

    • Automatic Emergency Braking
    • Front Pedestrian Braking
    • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
    • Forward Collision Alert
    • IntelliBeam auto high-beam control
    • Following Distance Indicator

A Rear Vision Camera2 is also standard, while Adaptive Cruise Control2, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert 2, Rear Cross Traffic Alert2 and Rear Park Assist2 are available.

  • Chevrolet Silverado HD

Chevrolet brings everything heavy-duty truck customers want and need with the 2024 Silverado HD — with no compromises in capability and comfort. The 2024 Silverado HD arrives with powertrain upgrades, a more commanding presence paired with an overhauled interior, enhancements to its revolutionary trailering technology, and infotainment and active safety technology2 upgrades.

“We’ve designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ favored choice for true truck capability,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of the design, strength and confidence that makes tackling the hard jobs, including trailering, easier and more convenient than ever.”

The lineup includes 2500HD and 3500HD models in Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations. Dual-rear-wheel models are available on 3500HD and they support the lineup’s highest trailering capacity: 36,000 pounds3. The 2024 Silverado HD is available in Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. ZR2 will join the HD trim lineup later in the model year for the first time.

Allison 10-speed transmission enhances gas-engine trailering capability

For the first time, the proven Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard equipment for both the Silverado HD’s powertrains: the standard 6.6L V-8 gas engine and the available Duramax turbo-diesel. It replaces the gas engine’s previous six-speed automatic, offering smaller “steps” between the gears, which enables the 6.6L gas engine to hold closer to its peak power for longer periods.

The improvements translate to a more confident feeling of on-demand power, regardless of whether the truck is towing a trailer. When it comes time to tow, the 10-speed configuration helps channel every single pound-foot of torque to the tires in every gear. In turn, the 2024 Silverado HD’s Gross Combined Weight Rating with the 6.6L gas engine increases to 26,000 pounds7, up from 24,000 pounds previously.

Additionally, the Allison transmission’s 10-speed design optimizes grade braking with the gas engine, with the closer gear ratios enabling greater engine-braking control. That, in addition to precise tuning for smooth shifts and quicker downshifts, complements the enhanced feeling of on-demand power, greater control, precision and refinement.

More power, more torque and greater refinement for the Duramax turbo-diesel

Silverado engineers continue to further push the renowned Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8 engine, and with the 2024 Silverado HD, they’ve issued their latest upgrades.

Overall, the horsepower and torque numbers increase to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, per SAE J1349. Additional changes and upgrades were designed to produce a more efficient combustion, which enhances overall performance. Further, engineers enhanced low-end torque production by up to 25% for improved performance at low speeds or climbing grades, and particularly when trailering.

    Commanding presence

The 2024 Silverado HD has a commanding presence, driven by a freshened front-end appearance that features a new fascia, new headlights, new grille and more. The truck’s chiseled appearance combines with timeless design that not only looks, but is, prepared for anything.

C-shaped LED graphic lamps frame the new fascia, inspired by the signature design of the Silverado 1500, while bold, new headlights on LTZ, ZR2 and High Country models feature dual-projector technology. The main and high beams of these new lights are now split into dual functions, and as owners approach or depart their 2024 Silverado HD, an animated lighting sequence welcomes or bids them farewell from the truck.

Additional exterior updates include standard tow hooks, and “CHEVROLET” lettering featured on the hood scoop. Six new exterior colors have been added as well: Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic (late availability) and Meteorite Metallic (late availability).

Atop numerous updates, Silverado HD’s design continues to boast the breakthrough features and technologies that contribute to its true truck capability. They include the Durabed cargo box that optimizes every square inch for maximum cargo capability — including up to 83.5 cubic feet with the long box — as well as the CornerStep rear bumper, BedSteps, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate, available 120-volt power outlet, available power tailgate and more.

The lineup also retains the popular Z71 Sport Edition, Z71 Chrome Sport Edition and Midnight Special Edition appearance packages, as well as the Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition.

New wheel and tire options for the Silverado HD include:

    • 20-inch bright chrome wheels available on LTZ
    • 18-inch polished aluminum dually wheel and all-terrain tires optional on 3500HD LTZ and standard on 3500HD High Country
    • 20-inch off-road tires available on Z71 Sport Edition, Midnight Special Edition, Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition and Z71 Off-Road package

    Redesigned, more refined interior

In addition to the exterior styling updates, all models receive a new interior designed for greater work-ready functionality and next-level technology integration.

LT, LTZ and High Country models introduce a dramatically redesigned passenger space centered around an all-new instrument panel that houses an expansive infotainment screen: a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment1 display. A 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center complements the new infotainment display. The infotainment screen and other controls are also canted toward the driver, giving the driver more of a “command center” perspective. This ethos pulls directly from the simple and iconic looks the C/K Series trucks set in the 1970s and 1980s.

This smarter command center also includes a redesigned wireless phone charger4 area to reduce distractions and a flow-under console. The latter design provides the spaciousness of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console. Ahead of the driver is an available and configurable head-up display.

“It’s a more open-feeling and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design. “It’s an environment that intentionally puts more at the driver’s fingertips, for a greater feeling of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”

Additional interior updates and upgrades include:

    • Fresh screen displays and graphics inspired by the recently refreshed Silverado 1500
    • Authentic leather-wrapped surfaces and real wood accents available on certain models
    • New center console on LT, LTZ and High Country models that incorporates an available wireless charger4
    • More space for side-by-side cupholders in the console: There is a total of 10 total cupholders available, depending on the model and configuration
    • New audio control knobs that help strike an ideal balance between physical and digital controls, along with similar buttons recently introduced in the refreshed Silverado 1500 that allow some popular features to be accessed with a single push
    • Climate vents and controls for second-row passengers
    • Enhanced hidden storage, including in the console, upper and lower gloveboxes and even a sunglasses holder behind the infotainment screen

    New and improved trailering technologies

Chevrolet’s suite of customer-focused trailering technologies is designed to improve the experience with optimal visibility, easier hitching and greater driving comfort when towing a trailer. It’s improved with the 2024 Silverado HD, with a number of enhanced and new features:

    • Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer2 is an all-new technology for Silverado HD. It allows the Silverado HD’s available Adaptive Cruise Control to account for additional drag and increased braking distances when towing a trailer.
    • Enhanced Transparent Trailer2 expands the current Transparent Trailer2 technology by allowing it to work with fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers
    • Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert2 extends the blind zone area of interest to help enhance safety and situational awareness when trailering
    • GCW Alert warns the driver if the vehicle and trailer weight exceed the vehicle’s Gross Combined Weight Rating

The Silverado HD makes trailering easier with established available features, including up to 14 unique camera views5 such as HD Surround Vision and Bed View, an in-vehicle Trailering App6. Chevy optimized this suite of available camera views to ensure the 2024 Silverado HD provides the right view in any moment. Every Silverado HD includes a vehicle-specific Trailering Information Label, which lists its unique trailering metrics including the trailering ratings to the max tongue weight, max payload and more.

Additionally, the max tow package is now available across all Silverado 2500 trims, bolstering the maximum towing capability for the 2500HD series equipped with the 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8 engine to 22,500 pounds7.

Enhanced infotainment and driver awareness technologies

The Silverado HD is designed to make the drive more enjoyable, with new, more intuitive infotainment1 technologies and an expanded roster of driver awareness technologies.

On the infotainment side, Google built-in8 compatibility enables customers to connect virtually every aspect of their daily lives through Google Assistant, which is available through the infotainment system touchscreen or voice command. With the Google Assistant, it’s easy to send texts, play music, receive directions with Google Maps, adjust vehicle settings and even control smart home devices all hands free.

When it comes to safety and driver assistance technologies2, Adaptive Cruise Control is a newly available feature. It complements and bolsters the suite of standard active safety and driver assistance features that includes:

    • Front Pedestrian Braking
    • Forward Collision Alert
    • Automatic Emergency Braking
    • Lane Departure Warning
    • Following Distance Indicator

  • 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition with more horsepower, speed

Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition (2023)

Chevrolet’s most popular full-size SUV has been specially tuned for performance with the new 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition. With more horsepower and speed than ever before for retail customers, this special edition four-wheel-drive Tahoe is ready to impress performance enthusiasts who still want to sport around town in a full-size SUV.

“The 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition is designed for those who want the best of both worlds — the everyday comfort and capability of a full-size SUV along with the driving excitement of a true performance vehicle,” said Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president. “It leverages the proven capability of Chevy’s pursuit-rated police vehicle packages and motorsports success to offer a confident, engaging driving experience for our customers.”

In fact, the new Tahoe RST Performance Edition leverages a number of chassis, suspension and other elements from the pursuit-rated Tahoe PPV package for police, with many of the vehicle’s dynamics calibrated by the same engineering team.

Chevrolet delivers more power than any other Tahoe by introducing Chevrolet Performance induction and exhaust systems to this package that increase output of the standard 6.2L V-8 to 433 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque. That’s an increase of 13 hp and 7 lb-ft over the current RST’s available 6.2L engine. On the special edition, the 6.2L V-8 engine continues to be exclusively paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4l3-SDqsVk

Standard components the RST Performance Edition borrowed from the pursuit-rated Tahoe include:

    • Police-spec springs, retuned dampers and police-spec chassis calibrations
    • Police-spec lower ride height of 0.4 inch (10 mm) in front and 0.8 inch (20 mm) in the rear
    • Brembo® front and rear brakes with unique Torch Red calipers. The front brake rotors are nearly 25% larger in diameter than the standard RST system
    • Performance-calibrated brake pedal feel
    • Police-spec Firestone Firehawk Pursuit 275/55R20 tires with specific 20-inch aluminum wheels in black

“We have carefully tuned this vehicle to handle speed with confidence and control that is immediately apparent behind the wheel,” said Dominique Lester, chief engineer. “The pursuit-rated driving dynamics inspire excitement and confidence on the road, and we’re proud to have achieved this level of ride and handling in a full-size SUV largely through performance calibration and tuning.”

The RST Performance Edition also has the numbers1 to back up its carefully calibrated systems:

    • 0-60 mph in 5.78 seconds (compared to 5.95 seconds on base RST)
    • Quarter mile in 14.2 seconds at 97 mph on the test track (compared to 14.4 seconds at 97 mph on base RST)
    • 60-0 mph braking in 133 feet (compared to 139.4 feet on base RST)
    • Top speed of 124 mph on the test track (compared to 112 mph on base RST)

That performance does not come at the expense of true SUV capability, as the Performance Edition offers the same 7,600-pound trailering capacity2 as the base RST when equipped with the 6.2L engine.

In addition to the unique powertrain, chassis and suspension upgrades, the Tahoe RST Performance Edition comes standard with the Luxury Package, which includes a host of active safety features3 and driver convenience features.

The special edition Tahoe will sport a black “RST” badge on the rear tailgate. On the interior, standard sport pedals elevate the performance look and feel.

The Tahoe RST Performance Edition will make its public debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The package is priced at a starting MSRP4 of $8,525 and will be exclusively available on the 2023 Tahoe RST with the 6.2L V-8 engine. Production begins in Q4 2022 with U.S. and globally sourced parts at GM’s Arlington Assembly in Texas.

  • Chevrolet Equinox EV

After introducing the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Blazer EV this year, Chevrolet’s blitz of electric vehicle rollouts continues with a third introduction: the all-new 2024 Equinox EV — an affordable all-electric SUV tailored to help modern families make a seamless, confident and uncompromising transition to an EV.

“We are at a turning point where EVs will be the mainstream choice for the next generation of customers and Equinox EV will lead this charge for us,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors. “With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium Platform, we are bringing to market vehicles at nearly every price point and for every purpose.”

With a starting price of around $30,0001 on the 1LT, the Equinox EV plugs Chevrolet into the critical compact SUV segment and is expected to be the most affordable EV in its class11. It rounds out an electrified portfolio that covers major segments, including full-size trucks (Silverado EV), midsize SUVs (Blazer EV) and compact SUVs (Bolt EV and Bolt EUV). Plus, it will also be available with up to an available GM-estimated 300 miles of range on a full charge2.

“Chevrolet is now positioned to offer a wide array of EVs,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “We know truck and SUV customers better than anyone and we’ve channeled that insight and experience into our new EVs.”

With the Equinox EV, designers and engineers focused on the style, space, safety and value attributes that made the gas-powered Equinox second to only the Silverado in Chevy sales and elevated them with expressive design, electrifying capability and effortless EV technology.

In addition to the Ultium-based propulsion technologies, features include a large infotainment screen3 — including an available 17.7-inch-diagonal system — a strong suite of standard and available driver assistance technologies9, and available Super Cruise4 hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads, when compared to the current Equinox.

“The Equinox EV is an EV for everyone,” said Bell. “It’s an affordable game-changer, offering an uncompromising experience, with more features, that won’t change your daily routine — except that you will no longer have to stop at the gas station.”

    Expressive design

At a glance, the Equinox EV’s expressive design has an athletic, bold and commanding appearance that is instantly recognizable as a Chevy SUV. Two distinctive personalities — LT and RS — are offered in several trims, drive configurations and range options.

    Highlights include:

    • Sleek lines and sporty proportions enabled by the Ultium Platform
    • Innovative walk-up lighting, with front and rear lighting animation standard and an available unique light bar on mid- and up-level LT and RS trims

Available driver assistance technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control9 and HD Surround Vision9, with a Head-Up Display and Rear Camera Mirror9 also available.

Additionally, Super Cruise4, the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology is also available. It allows drivers to travel hands-free on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada.

    Electrifying capability

A standard front-wheel-drive system with GM estimated 210 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque offers quick acceleration and a fun driving experience for everyday tasks, with a 290-horsepower and 346 lb-ft torque eAWD system available.

One-Pedal Driving5 is standard and allows the Equinox EV to accelerate and slow to a full stop, using only the accelerator. It’s paired with regenerative braking6, which can convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle’s forward momentum into electricity that’s stored in the battery pack to maximize the driving range.

The Equinox EV also packs the latest in charging technology:

    • Standard 11.5 kW Level 2 (AC) charging7, which can add up to 34 miles of range per hour of charging, per GM estimates
    • 19.2 kW Level 2 (AC) charging8 is available on 3RS eAWD, which can add up to 51 miles of range per hour of charging, per GM estimates
    • Standard DC fast-charging capability of up to 150 kW, which enables approximately 70 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes, per GM estimates7

GM covers the Equinox EV’s battery with an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty, in addition to the vehicle’s standard bumper-to-bumper coverage for added peace of mind.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV - Front

Chevrolet today revealed the all-electric 2024 Blazer EV, expanding the brand’s growing EV portfolio, making EV ownership more accessible, and driving Chevy into the heart of the growing midsize electric crossover segment.

Multiple distinct trims, multiple range1 options — Including an available GM-estimated range of up to 320 miles on a full charge1 — and available front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations offer customers more choices, and a seamless EV experience designed to complement virtually every lifestyle.

Those choices include available 1LT, 2LT, RS and Chevy’s first-ever electric SS performance model, along with a pursuit-rated Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for police fleet applications.

“The 2024 Blazer EV sets a new tone for electric SUVs, with options and intuitive technologies that help position Chevy for leadership in one of the fastest-growing EV segments,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “Along with the all-new Silverado EV and Equinox EV coming next year, we are making great strides in offering more choices for zero tailpipe-emissions vehicles — choices that make switching to an EV easier than ever.”

The Blazer EV is based on GM’s innovative Ultium Platform with athletic styling that elevates the heralded design established in 2018 by the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer, and performance cues inspired by the Camaro and Corvette.

    DESIGN DETAILS

The all-electric 2024 Blazer EV’s innovative, dynamic and athletic styling is infused with Chevrolet’s performance DNA to create an expressive design unlike anything else in the segment.

“The Blazer EV’s design evokes the same sort of emotional response as Chevy’s performance cars,” said Phil Zak, executive director, Chevrolet Design. “There’s true SUV functionality, but inside and out, it has the sort of passionate proportions and feel that make you want to slide behind the wheel and explore what’s beyond the horizon. It’s a vehicle that looks great from every angle and beckons you to drive.”

Each of the Blazer EV’s trims share a muscular, athletic profile enabled by the Ultium Platform, including taut, converging body lines. They convey motion, while prominent front-fender extractor vents are a nod to Chevy’s motorsports legacy.

The distinctive trims take on their own characters. The LT features a monochromatic appearance and standard 19-inch wheels, while the RS strikes a sportier presence with a black grille and other black accents, along with standard 21-inch wheels. The SS serves up the most aggressive aesthetic, with a unique front grille, two-tone color scheme featuring a black roof and A-pillars that complement the Blazer EV’s body color pallet, standard 22-inch wheels and more.

Designers elevated the Blazer EV’s presence further on the RS and SS with a bold, dual-element LED exterior lighting signature that also has choreographed lighting sequences, which activate when the driver approaches or walks away. The effect features a full light bar and illuminated Bowtie emblem on the front. These elements are incorporated into the lighting sequences.

The front lighting also conveys the state of charge while the vehicle charges. A sequential orchestration of the lighting increases in speed and intensity as the battery’s charge increases.

Inside, a refined cabin also makes a modern design statement. Like the exterior, many of its elements draw inspiration from Chevrolet’s sports cars and performance heritage, such as a flat-bottom steering wheel for the RS and SS trims and sculpted vents inspired by turbines.

An expansive, 17.7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen is the focal point of the cabin and the command center for the vehicle’s infotainment7 system and additional features. A large 11-inch-diagonal color Driver Information Center in the instrument cluster complements the central touchscreen.

    Additional interior highlights include:

    • Two-row layout with ample spaciousness and storage options, thanks to a flat floor enabled by packaging of the Ultium Platform
    • Standard ambient lighting with personalization function on RS and SS trims
    • Unique RS and SS trim and design cues, including blue and red contrasting stitching on the RS, and sueded microfiber seating on the SS, with Adrenaline Red seating surfaces and available Argon Orange accents
    • Heated and ventilated front seats on RS and SS, along with heated rear outboard seating positions that are standard on SS and available on RS

    TECHNOLOGY FOR EVERY LIFESTYLE

The Blazer EV features Chevy’s latest charging, infotainment and driver-assistance technologies that work together holistically, offering customers greater convenience, comfort and confidence when it comes to making the transition to an all-electric vehicle.

It all starts when the driver enters the Blazer EV — there’s no button to push to start the vehicle. With hands-free start, the driver simply pushes the brake pedal after closing the door and the Blazer EV is ready to go. The key fob authorizes the hands-free start system.

“Transitioning to an electric vehicle is seamless with the Blazer EV,” said Martin Hayes, Blazer EV chief engineer. “Every element and feature have been designed to help customers take full control of their driving experience and enjoy every minute of it.”

    Technology highlights include:

    • Powered-opening charge port door: It features a powered opening when the door is pushed
    • Navigation to charging stations and route planning: Through the MyChevy app4, this feature helps locate and plot routes to charging stations
    • Regen Braking8: This feature can convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle’s forward momentum into electricity that’s stored in the battery pack to maximize the driving range. It also includes One-Pedal Driving9, which can slow the vehicle to a full stop, using only the accelerator pedal
    • Available presence-based liftgate: For convenience, the tailgate can open hands-free when the key fob is recognized by the sensors at the rear of the vehicle
    • Available Super Cruise5: The industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology, allowing drivers to travel hands-free on compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada

The Blazer EV also offers Chevrolet’s latest driver-assistance technologies, including Reverse Automatic Braking6 and Advanced Park Assist6. They complement the standard Chevy Safety Assist6 suite of technologies, with Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam.

A major enabler of the Blazer EV’s technologies is Ultifi11, GM’s new end-to-end vehicle software platform. It separates the vehicle’s software from the hardware to enable the frequent and seamless delivery of software-defined features, apps and services to customers over the air. Ultifi will allow customers to continue to upgrade and personalize their vehicle like never before, as improvements and new features become available over time.

    SPIRITED, CONFIDENT PERFORMANCE

The Blazer EV channels the power of the Ultium Platform, which is the foundation of GM’s EV strategy and the driver of the company’s vision for a zero-emissions future. The all-new body architecture supports the multiple range options and the three available drive systems: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.

“The flexibility of the Ultium Platform enabled our design and engineering teams to develop the Blazer EV to offer an unprecedented range of performance and driving characteristics,” said Hayes.

Additionally, the low, wide proportions of the Ultium Platform and the structural positioning of the battery pack, contribute to a comparatively low center of gravity that enhances driving stability. And regardless of the propulsion system, independent front and rear suspensions offer exceptional ride comfort and responsiveness.

The SS takes all the Blazer EV’s performance capabilities to their zenith, with unique features designed to help maximize the Ultium Platform’s capabilities.

When it comes to charging performance, the Blazer EV delivers with an 11.5 kW onboard AC charging module for home charging12 and public charging, along with high-speed DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190 kW, enabling recharging of up to 78 miles3 of range to be added in approximately 10 minutes3.

Owners also have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic approach to EV charging, designed to simplify the overall charging experience, including access to more than 100,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada.

BLAZER EV ON THE JOB — AND ON PATROL

In addition to the “civilian” models of the new Blazer EV, Chevrolet will offer a specially developed Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) models. Based on the Blazer SS model, the Blazer EV PPV will have the largest Ultium battery in the lineup and will be available in rear wheel drive or with a dual motor all-wheel drive system. The PPV will use the Blazer SS high performance front Brembo brakes to help ensure short stopping distances. The purpose-built Blazer EV PPV model features a police specific interior designed for police officers with ample room to accommodate emergency equipment and gear.

“The possibilities for the Blazer EV’s commercial and law enforcement applications are almost endless,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “Along with zero-tailpipe-emissions performance, it reduces the number and frequency of certain maintenance requirements typically associated with fleet vehicles.”

In addition, the available trims offer different range and content suited for additional fleet and commercial customers, such as pharmaceutical, rental and others.
