  • 2016 Next-Generation Chevrolet Volt Debuting in 2015

General Motors let slip some very interesting details on the next-generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt in a recent press release. The next-generation Chevrolet Volt which is to make its premiere in 2015 is said to feature an all-new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) propulsion system which will achieve maximum productivity and efficiency. Moreover, the Voltec system will also offer better EV range and fuel economy for complete driving convenience. The Voltec system includes: new battery, drive unit, range-extending engine and power electronics.

The improved battery system will be able to store more energy, precisely, the storage capacity will be increased by 20 percent on a volume basis with fewer cells (the number of which is reduced from 288 to 192). In fact, the new Volt battery back is slightly smaller and lighter (with a mass decreased by virtually 30 pounds or 13 kg). Theoretically, with the 20 percent storage volume increase, its capacity would be about 20 kWh.

Similar to the battery system, the drive unit is upgraded in a way that is directed towards better performance and efficiency. There is a two-motor drive unit which generates roughly from 5 to 12 percent more efficiency and is 100 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the system which is currently operating. What is more, the two motors which work together deliver 20 percent improvement in electric acceleration and boosts the performance even more.

Finally, the old engine is replaced with an all-new, high-efficiency 1.5L 4-cylinder engine which runs on regular unleaded fuel. The new Voltec range extender has a variable displacement oil pump, direct injection fuel system, cooled exhaust gas recirculation and high-compression ratio of 12.5:1.

  • Measuring Powers: 2015 Ford Mustang GT vs 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Attention please! Let me present to you the clash of the titans; the battle of the 2015 Muscle Cars; the wrath of engines; the power-measuring between 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE and 2015 Ford Mustang GT! This is not a movie. This is the ultimate rivalry and desire for supremacy.

The rivalry between Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro is perhaps older than the Universe. Ok, not that old but slightly older than our plant. Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit too much but the important thing is that you got the point. Nevertheless, with the modern-day enhancements the two vehicles have never been functioning better than now. Both the 2015 Camaro SS and the recent 2015 Mustang GT pull out more than 420 HP and have 6-speed manual transmissions. But which one is the winner of this race? (I’m not going to spoil it for you right away and say it is the 2015 Camaro… Oops. I just did it.)

When you put the Camaro and the Mustang side by side it is probably more than just obvious enough to spot who is going to be the wolf and who is going to be the sheep. Or is it…? Exceeding in almost every feature and characteristics, 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS is expected to eat up the 2015 GT. Yet, many of the Ford fans still kept their hopes up for the next generation Mustang was introduced with an independent rear suspension setup that would improve the handling and had a little more horsepower than that of the Camaro.

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTJPDurLEKw

In order to see if the improvements on the Ford Mustang will help it win, Motor Trend set the two cars through the paces to show which would demonstrate better time.

In the video we see Carlos Lago who continues to compare the two cars. The first one to be tested is the Ford Mustang GT. Despite the fact that it loses (not really surprising after all), the muscle car shows some spectacular results too. It is slightly faster than the Camaro – and it covers ¼ miles in 12.8 seconds at 112.2 mph while the Chevy accomplishes its ¼ mile in 12.9 seconds at 110.5 mph. Just like the winner, though, the GT braking performance hits 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. As for the figure eight, the Camaro beats its opponent with the final result of 24.5 seconds at 0.87g (avg).

My personal favorite though is the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. It burns with tight and strong power and it also has really good turning and balance-management at a high speed performance. It is pulling some serious leading characteristics there! Mustang is less track-focused and it lacks the high level of stability that the Chevrolet hits us with. The latter is really kind of what you want and expect out of such car.

  • Car Myths That Just Won’t Go Away

As humans we strive to attach meaning to all the things in our environment. This allows us to interact with our physical world in consistent ways so we can survive and prosper. However, funny things can occur during this process and the generation of myths is a good example. In our need to understand things, even our cars get myths attached to them and they often last well past the time when “the real facts” prove them wrong. Here are several automotive myths that refuse to die:

Big cars are safe and small cars aren’t

It’s funny, many parents think that their teenager will only be safe in a big SUV (with average handling and a rollover-prone high center of gravity) than a sensible economy car. They forget that the safety of today’s cars are hardly a function of just mass but involve lots of safety technology like high-strength steel, energy-absorbing crumple zones and multiple airbags. The myth continues, though, and probably accounts for a sizable amount of SUV purchases every year. No wonder as a nation that we consume so much petroleum; it’s all these “safer” SUVs on the roads.

Model T Fords only came in black

This is a particularly persistent myth that has been dispelled by Ford Motor Company itself many times. The myth that the Model T only came in black probably comes from the reality that almost 12 million of the 15 million total Model Ts manufactured were black. But, the Model T was produced in many different colors, including blue, red, green and grey. Oddly, many these hues were so dark they were hardly discernible from black, probably another reason the myth lives on.

Change your oil every 3,000 miles

The 3K rule dates back to when engine oils were less refined than they are now and got dirty quicker than they do now. Regular car service, like an oil change, was a necessity back then to keep a car reliable. Today, engines are better, oils are better and few manufacturers recommend an oil change every 3000 miles. Just don’t ask the guys down at Jiffy Lube for their opinion.

Overdrive makes you go a lot faster

We blame this one the Hollywood cliché of “kicking into overdrive”. This generally means that we are really going to haul now. Funny thing is, this is a true myth because overdrive just puts a car into a higher gear. Basically, it’s just for cruising and saving gas; as the engine RPMs settle down the car’s fuel economy usually increases.

Red cars cost more to insure

This is a popular one too. Why are they more expensive to insure? As the myth goes, “Because red cars are involved in more accidents!” Well, have you ever bought insurance for a car? Was there any point where they asked what color the car was when you got a quote? Insurance agents love this one and get asked about it all the time. From an insurance point of view, car color makes no difference.

Premium gas gives you more power

Wrong! Premium gas is simply less volatile than ordinary gas so it the gas of choice in high compression engines. Using it in your lower compression automobile would be just a waste of money because it has no more power than ordinary gas.

  • Ringbrothers Shows Sketches of 980 HP Chevrolet Chevelle Ahead of SEMA Reveal

Ringbrothers-SEMA-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Sketch-THUMBRingbrothers are going to SEMA Show with unique Chevrolet Chevelle. They have released four sketches which give us the idea of what we are to see at the event. The car made back in the 1966 will now take a contemporary form and will benefit from the cool features the modern automobile technology can offer. In addition, the tuning company has also announced that the project will be dubbed “Recoil” and will blend the pure power of a race car with the sleek and detailed finish of a show car.

What is more, the Recoil project will be equipped with a Chevrolet’s LS7 V8 engine, which pushes out 980 horsepower (720 kW) to the rear wheels. The unit is fitted with Whipple-supercharger and a custom Flowmaster exhaust system.

In addition, the customization specialists also said that the car has been renovated and features hand-laid carbon fiber panels and trim pieces. This Chevy Chevelle runs on modern HRE Wheels and there are also several other details just like the LED-lights.

Chevelle was introduced in 1963 and was created with the aim to compete with Ford Fairlane. It was offered in two-door hardtop coupe and convertible variants as well as four-door sedans and station wagons. Six-cylinder and V8 power was offered across the board.

In 1966, the Chevelle saw a complete restyle of the previous frame, which featured smooth contours, new grille and bumper as well as curved side windows. The engines offered back then were the 327-cubic-inch V8 and the mid-level 220 horsepower 283-cubic-inch V8 unit. Options included tachometer, mag-style wheel covers and sintered-metallic brakes.

  • ABBES Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Designed by ABBES Design, the independent model Chevrolet Corvette outshines the stock version in all aspects. The new Stingray is a breathtaking amalgamation of excellent engineering work and purpose-driven design. The transaxle construction and lightweight aluminum V8 sitting which is behind the front axle, the high performance transmission along with the differential unit in the back of the vehicle all deliver a perfectly balanced weight distribution and optimal performance, thus, bringing Chevrolet to the next level.

Being one of the best and most experienced designers, ABBES creates a body kit that does not alter the characteristic look of the initial car. Instead, it gently blends in with the lines and curves of the Corvette that are already there. In consequence, ABBES succeeds in implementing a full capacity of perfectness and synchrony between the new and the old.

From day one the new Chevrolet Corvette has established itself as a pioneer in terms of the used industry first advanced features and materials. Now with the refinements by ABBES, the car’s 6.2 L motor is able to get that little extra pressure thanks to the compressor with a brilliant power distribution. On top of this, with the advanced cooling system the intake air will get cooled down in a way that will achieve the optimum combustion temperatures.

In addition to this, the ABBES professionals have developed a high performance braking system that has eight piston calipers on the front axle and four piston calipers on the rear axle. As a result, this amplification provides a better handling of the increased power.

Another improvement is seen in the two piece rotors. They are made from high density aluminum and are used in order to help in the process of saving weight. The ferrodo high performance brake pads ensure a constant controllable braking power in every temperature as well as stability.

Finally, the new ABBES coil over suspension serves to provide an easy and optimum road handling. The innovative coilovers can be adjusted in height, hardness and preloaded springs.

  • Chevrolet presents 2015 Colorado Sport Concept

    2015-Chevrolet-Colorado_thumb2015-Chevrolet-Colorado_651

The US automaker Chevrolet has taken the opportunity to present the new 2015 Colorado Sport Concept at the on-going State Fair of Texas. Equipped with a few mountain bikes and gear enough for a weekend in the woods, the new 2015 Colorado Sport Concept clearly shows what it has been designed for.

“It’s not just mountain bikes, but just about any passion you can name, from kayaking, fishing, dirt bikes and more,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “It’s a truck for those who need the versatility of a pickup to support their work and lifestyle interests, but don’t need a full-size truck to do it.”

The new 2015 Colorado is a flexible vehicle as it comes in various versions including extended- and crew-cab models. The vehicle is powered by a few engines, including a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit that delivers 200 HP (147 KW) or a 3.6-liter V6 powerhouse. Chevrolet is proud with its 2015 Colorado engines as the third choice of a 2.5-liter V6 engine is the most fuel efficient in the segment with its 27 US MPG (8.7 liters per 100 km) highway fuel consumption. The 3.5-liter V6 engine is the most powerful in the same class with its 305 HP (224 kW).

In order to capture customer attention the new Colorado bets on accessories and comfort. The vehicle’s interior has been designed to meet the needs and expectations of modern mid-size truck customers. The cabin has been made extra quiet and it also offers features and functions common for automobiles and crossovers including Chevy MyLink with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and segment-first applications of Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert. The back of the vehicle provides features that ease users such as an easy lift-and-lower tailgate and rear bumper assist steps for easier cargo loading – a feature not found in competitors’ vehicles. The vehicle also offers the innovative and adjustable GearOnTM Accessory System that allows customers to stow larger items such as bikes and kayaks above the bed, leaving room for smaller gear, such as coolers and tents, inside the bed. The GearOnTM System is at the heart of the Colorado Sport concept’s package of lifestyle and personalization accessories. The list of additional accessories includes assist steps, splash guards, tiered storage, a bike rack, a cargo divider, cargo rings, wheel lip moldings and more. The cost of added accessories can be factored into financing for the Colorado, and all vehicle accessories are covered by the new-vehicle warranty.

The new 2015 Colorado starts at USD 20,995 for a four-door extended cab model with a 200 HP (147 kW) 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Chevrolet supports Colorado owners with two years or 24,000 miles/38,000 km (whichever comes first) of scheduled maintenance.

  • High-Strength Steel Chevrolet Silverado Toughnology Concept to Debut at SEMA

2014-Chevrolet-Silverado-Toughnology-Concept-THUMB2014 Chevrolet Silverado Toughnology is a SEMA-bound concept which is built with high-strength steel that makes it lighter, stronger and more efficient than the conventional carbon steel vehicles. In addition, this concept also displays Silverado’s connectivity technologies such as the OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. The high-strength steel is pressed while still in molten form. In fact, it can be 30 percent lighter than the carbon steel that has the same strength. In addition, it also delivers great weight savings at a lower cost than aluminum. This also contributes towards better fuel efficiency and capability.

Silverado 1500 which is powered by the EcotTec3 5.3L V-8 engine has an EPA fuel economy rated at 23 mpg on the highway. What is more, it offers a maximum trailering capacity of 11,200 pounds. As an option, Chevrolet is also offering the 6.2L V-8 engine equipped model as well as the new eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to them the Silverado’s trailering capacity increases to 12,000 pounds.

For the construction of Silverado Toughnology the engineers have used nearly 67 % of the durable material. Precisely, it is utilized in the A-pillars, B-pillars, rockers and roof rails and strategic sections on the interior structure. Furthermore, the ultra-high-strength steel is used in areas of the rocker panels and underbody, which helps improve performance in crashes.

The floor is made of roll-formed steel, which is also a lightweight material but more durable than the conventional stamped steel. Silverado also strategically uses aluminum in places such as the hood, thus saving 17 pounds over a conventional stamped steel hood.

To go into details, this particular vehicle, called Toughnology concept has a stripped-down appearance. The paint job resembles the look of raw, unpainted steel and is accented with steel molecule graphics. The black painted hood is the only visible metal exterior component that isn’t steel.

There are also additional black and chrome exterior accents and Chevrolet Accessory 22-inch wheels coupled with off-road tires. The special content includes Chevrolet Accessories grille insert, tubular assist steps, soft, folding tonneau cover, washable carpet bedliner, fender flares and tinted headlamp lenses.

Other upgrades in terms of performance feature enhanced performance exhaust system and performance brakes. Under the hood there is a performance air intake system on its 5.3L engine which generates 355 horsepower (261 kW) and 519 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque.

The interior of the Silverado Toughnology is the same as this of the LTZ trim. It features heated, leather-appointed bucket seats, rear-seat entertainment system, the OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and a wireless phone-charging mat.
