  • MANHART F350 – small motorsport track toy in a British racing green outfit

    2020 Mini F3501

The motorsport tradition in Great Britain is huge. The United Kingdom has produced some of the World’s most prestigious race tracks, such as Brands Hatch and of course Silverstone, as well as many successful drivers and race cars. The characteristic and downright legendary paint finish for the latter developed into the color “British Racing Green”. In reminiscence of past glorious motorsport successes, MANHART Performance has now chosen exactly this color to be featured on the latest model of the MANHART F350 based on the MINI John Cooper Works GP.

The typical MANHART racing and decorative stripes, which are distributed over the body, are in a strong red color, creating a high-contrast look that further enhances the already considerably eye-catching factor of the MINI, due to its extroverted body kit. The foil design was realized by the Dutch specialists at JD Customs. The same color combination is also used for the bracing strut in the rear of the F350. Further visual highlights are provided by the matte black, MANHART Concave One alloy wheels with red accent lines, which are mounted on the axles of the power dwarf in the dimensions 8.5×19 inch with 235/30 ZR19 tires.

By the way: The new owner of the MANHART F350 shown here can be sure of the absolute exclusivity of his vehicle. This is because while MANHART Performance can choose from countless color combinations, each color scheme realized will only exist exactly once – including the one in British Racing Green and Red.

Furthermore, the extremely sporty appearance is by no means out of place here, because after all, MANHART expertly provided a performance boost for the turbocharged, B48 four-cylinder engine in the front of the JCW GP, which already provides 306 hp and 450 Nm in series production: 350 hp and 530 Nm maximum torque. The MANHART F350 is therefore extremely powerful. An ECU remapping by the Dutch MINI specialists from Beek Auto Racing as well as a MANHART intercooler from Airtec is responsible for the power increase. To round off the range, MANHART is offering a gasoline particle filter replacement pipe and a cat-back exhaust system with four-stage flap control manufactured at Remus.

On the chassis side, F350 customers are spoilt with a choice: MANHART Performance offers either lowered springs, which lower the body by 20 millimeters at the front and 15 millimeters at the rear and has been installed on the vehicle shown here, or fully adjustable coil overs in three versions – each from AST Suspension in the Netherlands.

MANHART worked closely with Beek Auto Racing from the Netherlands in the conversion of the John Cooper Works GP to the F350. Among other things, Beek Auto Racing runs MINIspeed.eu, one of Europe’s largest webshops specializing in MINI. Thanks to this cooperation, MANHART will in the future be able to offer numerous other tuning components for the JCW GP on request.

All further facts as well as price and delivery information can be obtained at www.manhart-performance.de or directly from the MANHART Performance sales team. More information about the complete range of Beek Auto Racing products for the MINI JCW GP can be found at the webshop www.MINIspeed.eu. The webshop offers more than 1000 different products for the entire MINI model range.

  • A double win for Volkswagen: new golf and ID.3 take victory in their categories at the German car of the year awards

Video: Electric mobility for all: Volkswagen Golf eHybrid

The judges had to choose between no fewer than 72 new models, split into five different categories: compact cars with a basic price of up to EUR 25,000 (Compact), premium models with a basic price of up to EUR 50,000 (Premium), more expensive vehicles in the luxury segment (Luxury), vehicles with alternative drive systems (New Energy), and sports cars (Performance). “Both the new Golf and the ID.3 won over our judges in their respective segments – though they faced some very tough competition,” says co-organizer Jens Meiners, a reporter for the German and US motoring press. Given the restrictions required due to the pandemic, Meiners had to deal with some unique challenges this year: “running a test event has never been more demanding. However, the program was never called into doubt. We believe that cars are still important, even during the coronavirus crisis – in fact, they may be more important than ever.”

“The new Golf and the ID.3 have already come out on top in a number of relevant comparison tests. The fact that the two top-of-the-range models were rewarded by the jury primarily for their environmentally friendly designs and innovations is also a very special form of recognition for all of us here at Volkswagen,” says Klaus Zellmer, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Passenger Cars with responsibility for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, in response to the journalists’ decisions. “Environmentally friendly design and innovation are the most important cornerstones of our “Way to Zero” strategy, which aims to deliver zero-emissions mobility for all. With its highly efficient engines, the Golf plays just as an important role during the transformation phase as the fully electric and already carbon-neutral ID.3.”

Clear signage instructs buyers where to go once they reach the retailer, while any interactions when collecting a vehicle adhere to the guidance from the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) and Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) as well as latest government guidelines on social distancing.

All cars are prepared to a high cleaning standard, with attention paid to disinfecting door handles, using covers for seats, steering wheels, gear levers and floor mats, while Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn by anyone working on the vehicle. Keys are wiped clean and placed in a neutral zone for the customer to collect.

Appointments and visits to the showroom are staggered where possible, and a limit on the number of visitors in the showroom at one time is in place, while social distancing is maintained inside and outside.

Renault dealerships have adapted sites to suit, with clear and informative signage to inform and reassure both workers and visitors. Reminders to adhere to social distancing measures are clear on arrival, while there are clear reminders to sanitise workstations and vehicles to the highest standards.

  • Passion for quality and progressiveness: the new Audi e-Tron GT

    The Audi e-tron GT

Passion for detail, maximum precision, and top quality: The new Audi e-tron GT reflects all the passion with which Audi develops and builds cars. For the production of the electrically powered Gran Turismo at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site, the company uses customised new technologies – however, the finishing touches are applied by highly skilled hands. And since the dynamic work of art must also sound good, Audi has brought musical flair and technical competence to bear in composing a unique sound for the e-tron GT. It sounds powerful and progressive – just as an Audi should.

Production of the Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT is the brand’s first fully electric car to be built in Germany. The Gran Turismo will start rolling off the production line at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site at the end of 2020. The small-series production facility has been expanded, upgraded, and converted for its new role. The skilled craftsmanship from the previous facility has been retained and is supplemented by digital processes and smart technologies. During the expansion, production planners made use of new virtual methods. The tests of the work procedures on the assembly line and the logistic processes were conducted in the virtual domain for the first time, with container planning also performed with the help of VR technology. Production of the e-tron GT was designed without physical prototypes – a first at Audi.

Large areas of the body of the all-electric Gran Turismo are constructed from ultra-high-strength steel and aluminium. To produce this material mix in the planned quantities, a body shop was established that combines the skilled craftsmanship of the employees with the full potential of automated production technology. It consists of an innovative body assembly line along which each body passes twice. It is constructed around what is called the two-way framer, in which ten robots are used to attach the inner and outer side panels. It combines all manufacturing steps involved in joining the sides in a single system – thus making production of the Audi e-tron GT possible on the existing floorspace.

The inline measuring procedure for the bodies is also new. It guarantees even greater accuracy and can respond very quickly to minute deviations. At the end of the body assembly line is where precise craftsmanship comes into play: Experienced workers fit the add-on parts and check the finish of the completed body. The expressive design of the Audi e-tron GT places unusually high demands on production quality – the side wall frame, for instance, has a remarkably large draw depth of 35 centimetres (13.8 in) between its highest and lowest point.

The expanded assembly line includes 36 instead of the previous 16 cycles. The e-tron GT shares it with the R8 – this integration of two technically completely different cars is unique in the Volkswagen Group. Both models are moved using the same driverless transport vehicles and an electrically powered monorail system. At one station of the line, humans and robots work side by side. A 3D printer is also on hand to produce customised assembly aids at the employees’ request. Once completed, every car is driven for 40 kilometres (24.9 mi) on public roads, which also includes sections on the highway and in urban traffic.

“With the integration of the Audi R8 and Audi e-tron GT, a unique combination of craftsmanship and smart factory technology is coming to life at Böllinger Höfe,” says Production Head Wolfgang Schanz in summary. “I am especially proud of the passion and spirit of our team.”

The e-sound of the Audi e-tron GT
Whether it’s quality, design or technical characteristics – the Audi e-tron GT is a car packed with all the passion of Audi. This also applies to the sound of the electrically powered Gran Turismo. Engineers Rudolf Halbmeir and Stephan Gsell conceived and designed the progressive electronic sound – on the computer, in the sound laboratory, inside the moving car, and in customer studies.

As with every electric car, the e-tron GT also features the statutory acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS), although embedded within a broader acoustic spectrum. A loudspeaker fitted in the front of the vehicle emits the AVAS sound. For customers ordering the optional sound package, a second, large loudspeaker is added in the rear. In parallel, two loudspeakers in the interior provide an emotional sound experience. Two control units continuously remix the e-tron GT sound based on variables such as speed or accelerator position. The Audi drive select system allows drivers to set whether and how intensively they wish to experience the sound.

    Diesel

    • 204PS MHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, RWD / AWD

    Petrol

    • 250PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, RWD
    • 300PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD

The 204PS diesel produces 430Nm, its MHEV system uses a Belt integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) situated in the engine bay to harvest energy usually lost when slowing and braking, which is then stored in a 48V lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear loadspace. It is able to redeploy the stored energy to assist the engine when accelerating away while also delivering a more refined and responsive stop/start system.

The new 204PS diesel MHEV powers the XF Saloon RWD variant from 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds and produces CO2 emissions from 130g/km* and up to 57.2mpg *. The XF Sportbrake AWD version is capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and produces CO2 emissions from 137g/km* and fuel economy of up to 54.2mpg*. This delivers low running costs and represents a 13 per cent improvement in emissions and 14 per cent in efficiency for the XF Saloon RWD compared to the outgoing 180PS diesel engine diesel engine in addition to a power increase of 24PS.

Petrol customers can choose between 250PS or a 300PS version of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 365Nm and 400Nm respectively. Both feature the latest engine technologies including a twin scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL), for a strong combination of refined performance and efficiency.

The 250PS petrol engine delivers fuel economy of 35.2mpg*, CO2 emissions from 181g/km* and 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds for the XF Saloon RWD model and from 188g/km* and up to 33.9mpg* for the XF Sportbrake RWD version.

The 300PS XF Saloon, available exclusively with all-wheel drive, achieves 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds.

All engines are paired with Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox, which can be controlled using the steering wheel shift paddles for added driver engagement.

    Advanced connected technologies

The new XF features Jaguar’s next-generation Electronic Vehicle Architecture, dubbed EVA 2.0, which supports a range of new technologies to ensure the future-ready vehicle is always connected and always up to date.

The latest Pivi Pro infotainment technology is accessed through the all-new 11.4-inch curved glass HD touchscreen. Key benefits include enhanced clarity, the screen being three times brighter and 48 per cent larger than the previous screen, and the simplified menu structures allow drivers to access or view up to 90 per cent of common tasks from the homescreen in two taps or less.

To help drivers access vital information quickly, new XF features a new 12.3-inch HD Interactive Driver Display with enhanced graphics and a configurable layout which can show full screen navigation mapping with turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details. Working in conjunction with the latest optional Head-up Display technology, new XF gives drivers all the information they need with least distraction.

The intuitive new infotainment system features Apple CarPlay® as standard and allows customers to connect two phones simultaneously via Bluetooth. Android Auto™ is also available as standard in the UK. Wireless device charging with phone signal booster allows occupants to fast charge their smartphone. The system also provides clearer calls through the help of an external aerial.

To enable almost instantaneous start-up, Pivi Pro has a dedicated power source, so is ready to use as soon as customers get behind the wheel.

The collection of new convenience technologies includes Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) capability, which ensures the XF is always using the latest software. The technology means that owners don’t have to visit retailers to receive software updates for the vehicle.

Pivi Pro connectivity is provided by the latest embedded dual-sim technology with two LTE modems enabling the system to carry out multiple functions at the same time, such as streaming media and downloading SOTA updates, without compromising performance. The advanced connectivity also ensures minimal interruptions caused by coverage blackspots as it roams across network providers for the strongest signal.

Segment-first Active Road Noise Cancellation technology constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the occupants. This means quieter noise levels within the cabin for superior refinement and reduced fatigue, commonly associated with prolonged exposure to low-frequency noise. Cabin occupancy is monitored, with the system continuously optimising performance to deliver the best possible experience for everyone. The lightweight technology ensures that vehicle weight and handling characteristics remain unaffected.

In addition, Jaguar’s ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror** gives the driver an unobstructed view of the road behind. Using a wide angle rear-facing camera, the optional system feeds images to a high-definition screen within the frameless rear view mirror; unhindered by tall rear passengers, poor light or rain on the rear screen.

For enhanced convenience, the optional second-generation wearable Activity Key can be used to lock, unlock and start the vehicle without the need for the conventional key fob to be present in the vehicle. The rechargeable device incorporates a watch and has a battery life of up to seven days between charges.

For added security and peace of mind, new XF customers get a complimentary Secure Tracker subscription as standard for the first 12 months, or they can elect to enhance their security further with optional Secure Tracker Pro now with new Guardian Mode which uses a timer to provide when using the Secure app. It allows customers to identify times when the vehicle will be inactive, for example through the night, and receive alerts to their smartphone if it is used during this window – giving immediate warning of any unauthorised movements.

The new XF also benefits from the latest generation of driver assistance technology. This includes Clear Exit Monitor, which alerts both front and rear occupants to the presence of an approaching car or cyclist when exiting the vehicle. Optional Adaptive Cruise Control automatically maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front.

Jaguar’s latest 3D Surround Camera technology is fitted as standard on all derivatives and delivers advanced 3D functionality using the latest camera technology to deliver more detail and a choice of real-time viewing optional when manoeuvring the vehicle.

Jaguar’s commitment to creating strong and lightweight vehicles, continues with the new
XF. The aluminium-intensive architecture features recycled aluminium from closed-loop manufacturing for greater sustainability and is an important contribution towards Jaguar’s journey to Destination Zero, a world of zero emissions, zero accidents and zero congestion.

Not only does the new XF range benefit from upgraded technology and styling inside and out, the derivative offering has also been refined. The new range has been streamlined from 64 to 28 derviatives a move that both reduces manufacturing complexity and retains the most popular features selected by customers.

R-Dynamic specification is available across S, SE and HSE specification packs which are new for XF at 21MY.  The core bodystyle is only available as an S specification for the saloon and SE for Sportbrake.

Simplification of the buying process has also been addressed, with a new ‘browse, buy, drive away’ approach that will be trialled with the launch of the new XF and harmonises online and offline pricing so that customers know they’ll get the equivalent price, however they choose to purchase.

Extensively tested and developed at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife by Ford Performance, the Fiesta ST Edition is fine-tuned to optimise balance and control through corners and offers the flexibility for drivers to further tailor suspension setting to their specific driving style or environment.

The two-way adjustable coilover suspension system features twin tube stainless steel damper housings and powder-coated springs finished in Ford Performance Blue. Ride height is lowered 15mm at the front, 10mm at the rear and is adjustable. Twelve ‘bump’ settings – the degree of upward damper movement allowed as the wheel contacts a bump in the road, and 16 rebound settings – the speed at which the damper returns to position after an upward movement, put the driver in control of cornering responses.

Ford Performance flow-formed 18-inch alloy wheels offer a weight reduction of almost two kilograms each compared with the standard Fiesta ST alloys. The 10-spoke wheels retain their tensile strength and offer greater shock resistance than a traditional cast wheel despite using less material. The flow-forming process applies pressure to the wheel’s inner barrel as it spins after being cast, stretching and compressing the aluminium.

The lighter wheels follow the profile of rougher road surfaces more effectively and reduce the demand on the Fiesta ST Edition’s dampers and springs, improving tyre contact with the road for improved grip and responses.

The Quaife limited-slip differential (LSD) further optimises front-end traction and enhances cornering ability, delivering maximum grip on the exit of corners and working alongside Ford’s enhanced Torque Vectoring Control technology to improve road-holding and reduce understeer. The system applies braking force to the inside front wheel when cornering to deliver optimal grip on dry surfaces and smoothness on wet surfaces.

The Edition model also continues to offer Fiesta ST’s Normal, Sport and Track Selectable Drive Modes, with Sport mode now able to be activated directly from a dedicated button on the steering wheel. Launch Control is also available, and a switchable three-mode electronic stability control system is standard.

Ford’s 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine uses turbocharging, high-pressure fuel injection, and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing to deliver 200PS at 6,000rpm, and 290Nm of torque from 1,600rpm to 4,000rpm, for 0-62mph acceleration in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 143mph.

A combination of port fuel injection and direct fuel injection works alongside Ford’s innovative cylinder deactivation technology to help drivers save fuel, delivering CO2 emissions from 135g/km NEDC (149g/km WLTP) and fuel efficiency from 46.3mpg NEDC (42.8mpg WLTP).4

The Ford Performance model’s sporty character is further enhanced using a bespoke steering knuckle design; unique EPAS calibration with 12:1 steering ratio, and high performance braking system with 278mm vented front and 253mm solid rear discs.

    Special Edition styling
Available in three-door body style, the Fiesta ST Edition features unique exterior styling for exclusive appeal.

The bold Azura Blue finish was previously only available as part of Ford’s Special Vehicle Options range. Contrasting detailing includes High Gloss Black for the upper grille, fog light surrounds and distinctive rear diffuser, as well as the roof, rear spoiler, alloy wheels and door mirrors – which incorporate puddle lamps that project the ST logo onto the ground when unlocking.

The lower grille and turbocharger air charge cooler are finished in matte black. Further denoting the model’s special edition status, exterior ST badges feature a unique black enamel surround.

Interior enhancements include carbon fibre-effect finish on the instrument cluster surround and dashboard decorative elements, including the air vent surrounds. The air vent apertures and a unique red illuminated starter button are finished with chrome-effect rings.

The Fiesta ST Edition’s signature flat-bottomed steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake are finished in leather and feature distinctive blue stitching, as do the door trims, ST-branded floor mats, seatbelts and ST-branded Recaro heated sports seats with adjustable lumbar support.

    Refined and connected
Fiesta STs including the new Edition model offer a better-connected and more intuitive driving experience than ever.

A standard FordPass Connect modem enables a range of functions to make the ownership experience easier and more rewarding. In addition to helping drivers plan faster, less stressful journeys with Live Traffic updates, customers can remotely control a selection of vehicle features from any location via their smartphone including Door Lock/Unlock, Vehicle Locator, and Vehicle Status for checking fuel level, alarm status, tyre pressures, oil life and more.3

The Fiesta ST’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system has been enhanced to be more intuitive and easier to use, with a new user interface that features larger buttons displayed on the 8-inch colour touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ compatibility are included free-of-charge. A wireless charging pad also is offered, helping occupants effortlessly charge smartphones on the move.

  • New Stonic gets noticed this autumn with ‘GT-LINE’ available for the first time

    2021 KIA Stonic GT-Line1

Kia’s new Stonic is not an SUV that likes to be upstaged, and so for the 2021 model year, the updated compact sports utility vehicle is available with six even brighter and more colourful hues. For the first time, ‘GT-Line’ variants of the Stonic are available to customers.

But that’s only part of the story, as the upgraded Stonic now features a range of efficient new ‘Smartstream’ 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol powertrains, with cutting-edge innovations that boost efficiency, including Kia’s new 48-volt mild-hybrid ‘EcoDynamics+’ technology. It is available with the company’s new ‘clutch-by-wire’ intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) or slick seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT).

Inside, Kia’s new Phase II UVO Connect telematics system is combined with a new, larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a navigation system as standard on ‘GT-Line’, ‘Connect’ and ‘GT-Line S’ editions. UVO Connect’s Phase II system provides customers with several new benefits, such as more accurate journey times and ‘last-mile’ navigation assistance, as well as a range of features to enhance connectivity and usability. These can be accessed through an enhanced UVO smartphone app or via the car’s touchscreen.

New ‘Smartstream’ powertrains, the ‘EcoDynamics+’ mild-hybrid powertrain and new intelligent Manual Transmission
The enhancements to the latest Stonic includes the launch of Kia’s brand-new petrol Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) ‘EcoDynamics+’ powertrain. It mates a 118bhp 1.0-litre T-GDi (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct injection) ‘Smartstream’ engine with a 48-volt MHEV system, delivering enhanced efficiency by seamlessly harvesting and later releasing energy recovered during slowing down and when braking. A compact 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack combines with the engine’s torque output with electric power and can extend engine ‘off time’ with a new Mild Hybrid Starter Generator (MHSG) unit.

The MHSG is connected to the engine’s crankshaft by a belt and switches seamlessly between ‘motor’ and ‘generator’ modes. Under acceleration in ‘motor’ mode, the MHSG provides electric power assistance to help reduce the load on the engine and therefore results in lower emissions. As the car decelerates, the MHSG has the ability to switch to ‘generator’ mode in certain conditions, recuperating energy from the crankshaft to recharge the battery.

The new ‘Smartstream’ engine replaces the Stonic’s earlier ‘Kappa’-generation 1.0-litre T-GDi powerplant and is equipped with Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology. CVVD enables the engine to switch seamlessly between different combustion cycles depending on load, maximising efficiency in all driving situations. The Smartstream engine produces the same power as the previous Kappa engine – 99bhp or 118bhp – but enables slightly higher peak torque output, depending on transmission. For instance, the peak torque output from the 118bhp edition with a seven-speed double-clutch transmission (7DCT) is 16 per cent higher at 200Nm.

The new EcoDynamics+ powertrain is offered with the 118bhp version of the new engine, with a Drive Mode Select system allowing drivers to customise the driving experience with ‘Eco’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Normal’ modes. EcoDynamics+ models are also available with Kia’s new intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). The ‘clutch-by-wire’ system contributes to the MHEV system’s greater fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions, while retaining the driver engagement of a conventional manual transmission. Instead of a mechanical linkage, the iMT’s clutch is actuated electronically. It integrates seamlessly with the MHSG to switch off the engine earlier than Kia’s Idle Stop & Go start-stop system when coasting to a halt. Both transmissions, iMT and 7DCT, enable periods of engine-off ‘sailing’ to improve fuel efficiency. This operates at speeds of up to 77mph, and the engine reactivates when the driver pushes the accelerator, brake or clutch pedals.

    New ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ crown updated Stonic line-up
The Stonic range for 2020 has been reprofiled, with the line-up kicking off with ‘2’ specification, before moving up to an eye-catching new ‘GT-Line’ specification, followed by a two-tone ‘Connect’ edition, and ‘GT-Line S’ flagship.

The exciting new ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ models deliver a strong and sporty design, with ‘GT-Line’ front grille, LED headlights and daytime running lights, together with more dynamic front and rear bumpers that integrate a front skid plate and LED fog lamps. ‘GT-Line’ models feature a black rear spoiler with integrated high-mounted brake light, while the ‘GT-Line S’ versions feature a rear spoiler painted in body colour. Unique 17-inch alloy wheels and a ‘GT-Line’ emblem on the rear tailgate completes the exterior makeover. ‘GT-Line’ versions are available in six paint finishes, while the two-tone ‘GT-Line S’ editions are offered in six hues, with a choice of black or yellow roof, depending upon the colour chosen.

The sporty ambience is enhanced by a leather D-cut steering wheel with ‘GT-Line’ motif emblazoned upon it and a carbon look crash pad. The black cloth and faux leather seats are embossed with the ‘GT-Line’ logo and feature stitching and piping. The new 8-inch multimedia and navigation system dominates the cabin, and a 4.2-inch colour supervision display is nestled within the instrument cluster.

Safety performance is placed very high on the agenda, with ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ models featuring Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and High Beam Assist (HBA), with ‘GT-Line S’ versions additionally featuring Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), with DCT editions also boasting Blind Spot Collision Avoidance for the rear of the car. Other advanced technology features include rear parking sensors and a reversing camera system, with ‘GT-Line S’ models also featuring front parking sensors.

Other equipment highlights include rear privacy glass, electrically folding door mirrors, automatic air conditioning, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system with the very latest UVO Connect Phase II telematics software. Android AutoTM and Apple CarPlayTM are both standard equipment.

‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ editions boast the latest engine technology and comes exclusively powered by the 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine featuring brand new 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The 118bhp powerplant is mated to either a six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission or seven-speed automatic Dual Clutch Transmission and develops 172Nm of torque.

Larger, upgraded infotainment system with UVO Connect ‘Phase II’
UVO Connect’s Phase II features provide customers with several new benefits, such as more accurate journey times, ‘last-mile’ navigation assistance, and a range of features to enhance connectivity and usability. These can be accessed through an enhanced UVO smartphone app or via vehicles’ on-board infotainment systems.

One of the most useful Phase II features to be offered in UVO Connect-equipped vehicles is ‘Online Navigation’. This service draws on cloud-based real-time and historical traffic data to predict traffic levels more accurately, giving customers a more accurate picture of journey times and estimated time of arrival. This differs from traffic prediction tools found in conventional navigation systems, which only rely on in-car route planning and real-time traffic information to estimate journey times.

Kia’s new ‘Last Mile Navigation’ feature will help customers continue navigating to their final destination, even after they have parked up and left their car behind. This offers Kia customers the ideal solution for navigation in towns and cities where car parking are often some distance away from shops, cafés and restaurants.

Once the vehicle’s ignition has been turned off, this new feature sends a push notification to the UVO app on the user’s smartphone if their destination is between 200 metres and two kilometres away. The app lets users seamlessly access Google Maps navigation to complete their journey on foot. Alternatively, users can engage an augmented reality function, ‘AR Guidance’, which opens the smartphone’s camera and blends the image with AR turn-by-turn directional arrows.

Customers can also use a new ‘User Profile Transfer’ feature on the UVO app. This enables them to check and change their vehicle settings directly from their smartphone, including navigation, radio and Bluetooth preferences, at a time and place convenient for them. When the ignition is turned on, customers are automatically greeted with their preferred settings, saving time and making each journey more enjoyable. It also lets Kia owners back-up their in-vehicle UVO preferences via the cloud, and transfer settings from one vehicle to the next. This system will benefit customers who regularly switch between different UVO Connect-equipped Kia cars, for instance, business users who use pool cars, or families with more than one UVO Connect-equipped Kia in their household.

New colour combinations for ‘Connect’ and ‘GT-Line S’ models
Two new exterior paint colours are available – Storm Grey and Azure Blue. In addition, the new body and roof colours on offer creates the opportunity for a wider choice of colour contrast paint colours, available on the new ‘Connect’ and ‘GT-Line S’ versions. The roof is now available in a Zest Yellow paint finish, alongside the option of a Midnight Black roof, the two-tone roof is popular with Stonic customers, with 33 per cent of all European customers specifying this stand-out option.

The latest Stonic boasts newly designed full LED headlamps on ‘GT-Line’, and ‘GT-Line S’ models, while on the inside, in addition to the new larger 8-inch touchscreen, the driver is also rewarded with a new higher-resolution 4.2-inch digital display in the instrument cluster.
