  • A lucky Aston Martin DB5 undergoes a comprehensive restoration process

2021-Aston-Martin-DB5-910Aston Martin specialists, McGurk Performance Cars, has undertaken a full, bare-metal restoration of a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 during the lockdown. The tuning studio’s owner, John McGurk bought the car in March 2020 with the intention of a light restoration on it, but with lockdown meaning nobody could travel to look at it, the project escalated into a full bare metal restoration.

Delivered in 1964 to Aston Martin concessionaire J S Inskip, 64th Street, New York, USA, it left the UK painted in light metallic green with a white gold interior, white wall tyres, a heated screen, Motorola radio, powered aerial and air conditioning.

It lived in the USA until it made its way back to Europe back in the 1980s when it was purchased at auction by Jean-Marie Cousty, a member of the French Aston Martin Owners Club, who enjoyed it for two decades in and around Paris before he sold it in 2000. It left France, going to Holland before later being bought by the Kuwait Royal Family.

McGurk discovered the car in 2020 and brought it back to McGurk Performance Cars’ Warwickshire HQ and say:We could tell it was a very sound and solid car, and we thought it would be a great base for a light restoration. I advertised it for sale as it was and was inundated with people interested in it, but nobody could come and see it because they couldn’t travel during lockdown. By the time it got to June (2020) we decided to strip the car ourselves, get the engine running properly and things escalated from there,” says McGurk.

We’re better known for our sales and servicing of more modern Aston Martins, but with assistance from a few specialists, we’ve completely restored this beautiful, rare, left-hand drive DB5,” says McGurk. While doing so McGurk’s found all the body panels numbered with the 334 chassis number, underlining its originality, while the fitting of a sunroof in 1978 is again obvious thanks to the fitter dating the sheet metal panel. It wears Vantage badging, too, with it having previously been converted to Vantage specification, it having the correct Weber carburettors and revised camshafts to increase the 4.0-litre straight-six engine’s output from 282bhp to 325bhp.

Finding the original parts has been a mission worthy of the DB5’s most famous driver, with things like the original glass headlight covers being particularly tricky to source, McGurk admitting some things caused headaches, but, usefully, the car was virtually complete when it was purchased, maintaining its originality.

Having finished the restoration McGurk’s will showcase it over the next few months and use it as intended, it likely to visit to its one-time Paris home and be enjoyed as it should be on a classic European tour.

You could say we’ve used lockdown productively, says McGurk, who having personally managed the restoration is somewhat reluctant to put it up for sale. “I’m hugely proud of what my team here have achieved with this beautiful DB5, any restoration is a challenge, but to return a car to such immaculate condition while the rest of the world stopped turning is testament to the dedication and passion of all of those involved. I’m looking forward to showing it at various events here at McGurks and beyond, as well as driving it, too, admits McGurk.

Based just a short drive from Junction 12 off the M40 in Kineton, Warwickshire, McGurk Performance Cars is local to Birmingham, and easily reached from London and all over the UK.

  • Aston Martin celebrates returning to F1 with a special model

2021 Aston Martin Vantage F1 EditionNew Vantage F1 Edition comes to celebrate the brand’s return to Formula 1 racing for the first time in over 60 years. The vehicle is also the first one to be created by Aston Martin’s new Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers.

The vehicle comes with unique chassis and aerodynamic improvements, along with a new and powerful power unit. The main challenge before the engineering team was to boost dramatically performance rates, but without sacrificing the on-road capabilities. The result is a beautiful vehicle that offers increased tactility and expanded outright capabilities.

    Drivetrain system and performance

The heart of the beast is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers a total of 535hp. Peak torque is 685Nm, and can sustain for longer to increase tractability and in gear urgency. This massive output is controlled by an 8-speed automatic with optimized torque cut during upshifts. This allows the entire system to reduce shift times and increase the precision of driving.

As it comes to the chassis, engineers have focused their attention mainly on the suspension and steering, with further changing structure in order to enhance the stiffness and steering response. The vehicle comes with reworked damper internals that contributes to better vertical body control – both in high-speed situations and over crests. To complement the changes to the dampers, the chassis also benefits from increased rear spring rate and lateral stiffness for better cornering and more stability.

  • A quick overview of the limited 2016 Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf

201-Aston-Martin-Lagonda-Taraf-910There’s a certain Aston Martin vehicle that deserves some more attention. This is indeed the Lagonda Taraf, which has been revealed to a select number of enthusiasts during the years, but has always been kept in a sort of obscurity.

The vehicle features a contemporary design that was brought to life by a team of AM specialists from Gaydon headquarters who used brand’s flexible VH architecture as a base for the body design. The luxurious high-performance is capable of achieving a bit over 190mph via its massive 5.9-liter V12 that generate a total of 540hp. All this is possible, thanks to the VH architecture. Additionally, the vehicle is covered with carbon-fibre-reincorced body panels for strength and weight reduction.

Brand’s initial goal with the Taraf was to promote it in the Middle East, but the demand was in such high regard when the vehicle was first unveiled that the company decided to make it available worldwide. However, a limited run of 200 vehicles is made and as it seems, every single one is highly valued by brand enthusiasts.

  • Wheelsandmore Aston Martin Vantage

2019 Wheelsandmore Aston Martin Vantage - Side

Wheelsandmore, the worldwide premier tuning company of Aston Martin models presents its state-of-the-art Aston Martin New Vantage of the latest generation.

With extroverted designs as well as eye-catching colors Aston Martin intends to specifically target younger buyers in the future with the new Vantage. The 155.000 Euro expensive entry-level model marks the beginning of the traditionalist critically eyed image change – inveterate Aston Martin fans are still holding back on the purchase of the new Vantage V8. The British sportscar shines not only with its usual impeccable workmanship in the interior. In particular, the implied AMG 4.0 bi-turbo engine as well as the modern chassis raise the New Vantage to a contemporary level, which the predecessor sometimes missed. Thanks to its new qualities, the smallest Aston now provides a perfect basis for the customization skills of the specialists at Wheelsandmore. With plenty of expertise and stylistically chosen style, a refinement program for more exclusivity and to sharpen the athletic attributes.

Rims for Aston Martin New Vantage in 21 inches and 22 inches

The British manufacturer continues the use of the unusual bolt circle of 5x128mm also with the Aston Martin New Vantage. As the only TUV-certified producer in Europe, the wheel manufacturer offers perfect fitting multi-part forged wheels sizing 21 and 22 inch for the New Vantage. Once again Wheelsandmore is documenting their outstanding position in the production of exclusive high-performance rims. From the wheel portfolio the company presents the classic design 6Sporz² with a noble carbonlook surface as well as the new concave, directional wheel design FORK with central locking optics in the photo gallery. Both models can be configured either in 9.5×21 and 11.5×21 inches with the matching tires in sizes 265/35/21 and 315/30/21 or in 10.0×22 inches with 265/30/22 and on the rear axle sizing 12,0×22 inches with 315/25/22 tires. Bigger rims are just the beginning … The engine power that elicits the tuning professional the AMG engine is simply breathtaking.

Performance upgrade for Aston Martin New Vantage

As Wheelsandmore already got lot of experience with the M177 DE engine from the C63 AMG and AMG GT tuning programs, the tuning professionals also developed larger turbochargers, sport catalytic converters and a valve flap exhaust system with corresponding software for the New Aston Martin Vantage. The final dyno test bench attested Wheelsandmore a new power about 680hp and 820Nm of torque. The new top speed is estimated by the tuner with +330 km/h with appropriate tire release. For the acceleration sprint up to 100 km/h the sleek coupe needs only 3.3s after the visit at Wheelsandmore and closes the gap to the much more expensive DBS Superleggera. Best arguments for those who have been holding back with buying a new Aston Martin Vantage.

  • Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Tuning

2019 Wheelsandmore Aston Martin DBS Superleggera - Front Angle

Although other tuning companies are providing tuning components for the sports cars from Aston Martin, Wheelsandmore from Germany is still the first address when it comes to the refinement of all Aston Martin models since 2004. With the conversion of the current top model, a DBS Superleggera, Wheelsandmore proves once again how a tuning can combine different styles, in the end sporty discreet, yet stylistically and technically decisively improved.

With 725hp engine power, the sleek Gran Tourer is without a doubt one of the most powerful 2 + 2 seaters on the planet. Responsible for this performance and 900Nm torque is the self-developed 5.2l bi-turbo V12 engine. Once the subject of forced breathing comes into play, the tuner’s heart beats faster and the software developers are happy to modify the corresponding parameters to increase performance, in order to be able to offer a steady increase in performance. With the control units of the new generation, it already requires appropriate know-how to be able to make modifications. Wheelsandmore offers both, an increase in performance in the course of classic chiptuning, as well as an easy-to-install plug-and-play solution with an additional control unit. In both cases, the torque increases by 130Nm and the power grows by 105 additional horsepower. The standard top speed remains unchanged even after the modification with 340 km/h. The tuning upgrade is offered for the price of 4.193 EURO each.

Since the DBS Superleggera is largely based on the DB11 and Wheelsandmore has launched a program with special rims for this model already in the year 2017, it was unproblematic for the noble tuner to develop appropriate rims for the super sports car. From the multi-part rim program, the model F.I.W.E. was specially developed for the DBS Superleggera for the first time sizing 22 inches. In order to meet the customer’s demand for the most discreet yet appealingly sporty look, the Aston Martin tuning expert customized the rims on the front axle in 10×22″ and measuring 12×22″ on the drive axle. The road contact is made by high performance Pirelli tires in 265/30/22 and 315/25/22 inches with the appropriate release up to the maximum speed limit.

From the tuner’s point of view, these measures are exactly those that make the DBS Superleggera an absolute supercar. As the rim parts are always made to customer specifications in color and surface, it can be assumed that each finished Aston Martin DBS Superleggera from Wheelsandmore will ultimately be an individual one-off item according to customer specifications. Rims can certainly be assembled by many wheel companies in the world. But such extreme sizes for the latest vehicles with German TUV approval are only available at Wheelsandmore!
