2020 Audi A6 allroad New 2020 Audi A6 allroad has been named 2020 “Top Safety Pick Plus” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Through IIHS’s tests, the A6 allroad has managed to impress the jury with its body structure and overall rigidity. The vehicle scored “Good” rating in six areas of crashworthiness performance: small front overlap collision evaluations on both the driver and passenger sides, moderate front overlap, side-impact, roof strength, and head restraints, and seat performance. Additionally, the vehicle earned “Good” headlights rating when geared with the Matrix-design LED headlights with high beam assist and LED taillights with dynamic rear turn signals.

Because of its forward collision warning and the automatic emergency braking systems, A6 earned “Superior” rating on both front crash prevention tests. In the case of collision, the brand’s pre-sense suite can intervene in order to help prepare the vehicle for impact. This process includes beginning to close the side window and panoramic sunroof and tightening the front safety belts. Also, Audi Pre Sense suite can detect vehicles at speeds of up to 155mph and can initiate braking when a potential collision is detected. Additional driver-assistance technologies include a 360-degree surround-view of the outside of the vehicle and can assist with maneuvering tight spaces.

  • Comparing the very best family touring and estate cars

Growing families that need a little more room than a standard hatchback or saloon will usually turn their attention to estate and touring cars. Along with a bigger boot, estate and touring car owners still benefit from impressive styling, great refinement and plenty of equipment.

In addition, running costs are much cheaper than bigger MPVs and crossovers. Simply by adding some roof bars on top, from Tesco or other retailers, the same functionality can be enjoyed.

But what are the very best family touring and estate cars currently available? Here’s a quick comparison.

    BMW 5 Series Touring

Possibly the best estate car around, the BMW 5 Series Touring ticks all the right boxes. The build quality is second to none, so you won’t have to deal with many surprise breakdowns. At the same time, owners are treated to a powerful yet controlled drive behind the wheel.

Self-levelling rear suspension allows you to transport heavy loads with the greatest of ease, while the ample safety and security kit means passengers will always stay free from harm.

    Ford Focus Estate

If the 5 Series Touring is too expensive, consider the Ford Focus Estate instead. Not only does this option handle just as well as the BMW, it also boasts a number of powerful yet economical engines.

Space and practicality are also best in class, while all versions come with air conditioning, a digital radio, and Bluetooth.

    Audi A6 Avant

Going back to the executive market, the Audi A6 Avant provides stiff competition for the BMW 5 Series. Handling isn’t quite as sharp but the beautiful cabin is a thoroughly pleasant place to be.

You won’t need to spend much on additional extras either, as nearly every piece of equipment you could want is included as standard. Competitive running costs and strong engine performance only add to the Audi A6 Avant’s strong points.

    Kia Cee’d Sportswagon

Budget-conscious buyers that don’t want to break the bank with a purchase should look no further than the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon. With lots of space, a high quality cabin, and an abundance of equipment, you can’t go far wrong.

It is probably a bit noisier than the Ford Focus Estate and won’t deliver an equally impressive drive, but if value for money is your key concern, pick the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon.

    Verdict

Personal preference in terms of handling and equipment is the only way to separate top of the range estate cars like the BMW 5 Series Touring and Audi A6 Avant. However, if your budget doesn’t stretch to these options, there are some commendable alternatives available.

The Ford Focus might not be as refined, but it can’t be beaten when it comes to space and practicality. And for the ultimate in cost-effective motoring, try the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon for size.

  • Guinness World Record for Audi A6 TDI: 14 Countries on a Single Tank

Audi A6 TDI Makes Guinness World Record Audi A6 TDI Ultra has achieved the impossible, covering fourteen countries on a single tank of fuel! And if you think this is a hoax, then we should tell you that the Guinness World Records have confirmed the title! Sound’s exciting, doesn’t it? Audi A6 TDI Ultra has managed to drive through 14 countries and cover a total of 1158.9 miles. And that’s on one tank of diesel. This also means that the Audi A6 TDI ultra has achieved an overall averaged 75.9mpg fuel economy.

The Record Road Trip started from the Maastricht, Netherlands, at 9.48am (GMT) last Tuesday and ended in Hungary at 12.44pm (GMT) the next day. Both drivers, Andrew Frankel and Rebecca Jackson, drove 28 hours almost non-stop to complete the mission in an A6 that was entirely unmodified (if there are any doubts).

SEE ALSO: Audi A6 TDI Attempting Guinness World Record

In these 28 hours, the motoring journalist and the racing driver, passed through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.

    Guinness World Record for Audi

Of course, both drivers faced various challenges in their driving adventure. These included diversions for both heavy traffic because of an accident and a closed tunnel. All this led to an unplanned mountain detour.

They had to maintain an average speed of around 50mph to make this world record possible. So this means that they had to be fully aware of what’s going on the road and anticipate what could happen with the traffic ahead. In other words, maintaining constant, fuel-efficient speed and not being caught out by other vehicles was demanded.

The record achieving Audi A6 TDI ultra represents company’s pinnacle of the Vorsprung durch Technik. This is Audi’s absolute focus on optimum efficiency and outstanding fuel economy and emissions. The ‘ultra’ badge is also reserved for the A3, A4, A5, A7 Sportback and TT models. They are all currently on sale.

By literally covering almost the half of the continent on a single fill-up, Audi has proven that real-world economy of almost 76 mpg can be achieved in reality. This however happens only when the latest technologies are applied.

The prestigious title will be given to the car if it achieves the goal of driving to the most countries on a single tank of fuel. The project is being conducted with Audi’s collaboration with RAC. This is an organization that is banking on the Audi ultra concept and the innovations in lightweight construction, engineering and driver assistance technology.

Behind the steering wheel will be motoring journalist Andrew Frankel and racing driver/TV presenter Rebecca Jackson, who will bring their driving skills and experience in the pursuit of the title.

Audi A6’s journey starts from Netherlands today. It is going to proceed to Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany and Italy and it will probably end up somewhere in the Balkans. To achieve the record, Audi will utilize the 67mpg-plus A6 2.0 TDI ultra model, which is expected to cover more than 1,000 miles on a single tank of fuel.

    Why Audi A6 TDI?

RAC has chosen the Audi A6 TDI ultra because of its fantastic fuel economy and large 73-litre tank. Currently, the Audi A6 TDI ultra is available as a Saloon or Avant variant. Each can be equipped with either manual or S tronic twin-clutch transmissions. The most recent entrant is the ultra line-up is the A3 1.6 TDI ultra, delivering 80.3mpg and CO2 emissions of just 89g/km.
