Renault has introduced the most powerful road car in the manufacturer’s history. Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy comes at just £27 820 and it is ready to outrun VW Golf and Scirocco R models.
Renaultsport 265 Trophy is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 litre petrol engine with staggering 265PS and 360Nm of torque available between 3000 and 5000RPM. The hot hatch achieves impressive power-to-weight ratio of 191HP per tonne. Not bad, not bad at all!
The results are thanks to an improvement in maximum turbo pressure, which is now 2.5 bar and a new air intake revised to take account of the higher pressure and running temperatures.
A great addition to the sports hatchback is free access to the full 2012 Renaultsport UK trackday calendar, worth around £650.
Besides of the brutal engine, Renaultsport 265 Trophy comes with a huge 19” gloss black Speedline alloys with red rim fitted with high-performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres. The car boasts “Trophy” red decals on the F1-style front blade and doors, and LED daytime running lights.
Megane 265 Trophy features stiffer springs, dampers and anti-roll bar and grooved brake discs. It also has a mechanical limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, as well as the innovative PerfoHub independent steering axis front suspension set-up, which virtually eliminates torque steer. All these upgrades makes the Megane a perfect road car suitable for time attack at racetracks.
Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy will be limited to just 500 units, so you’d better hurry up. Orderrs open 20th June and first deliveries end July.
The new 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is set to have its official debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. However, the premium manufacturer has released full details and specification about the new SAV.
By “new” we don’t mean entirely redesigned model, but a slight facelift, which practically is the old M-Class, but with bigger taillights and interesting headlights. The highlights worth mentioning include a new front grille, new wheel designs from 17” to 21” as the biggest come with AMG badge. The improvements are present, still, we think that the rear lights are directly taken from BMW E61 (the previous 5-Series touring). It is tough to create something new and different these days, but this is Mercedes! If they don’t have the designers and the engineers to create a real new SAV, nobody can’t.
2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class – Back
The interior is something different. The cabin is way better than the previous model and now feature higher quality materials and a lot of wood. Yes! The dashboard came directly from the S-Class, so we love it. The center console is wider and has some aluminum elements. The updated COMAND system is also present and as an option, you can order panoramic sunroof. Nice!
2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class – Interior
As you may suggest, the engines are brilliant. The entry level is ML 250 BlueTec with 2.1 liter four-cylinder diesel delivering hefty 204PS (150 kW) and 500Nm (369 lb-ft). The more powerful diesel – ML 350 BlueTec comes with a 3.0 liter V6 with 258PS (190 kW) and 619Nm (457 lb-ft). The performance is brutal – 0 to 100 km/h for 7.5 seconds and top speed of 224 km/h. Excellent for SAV.
The petrol engine is in ML 350 BueEfficiency with a 3.5 liter V6 with 306PS (225 kW) and 370Nm (273 lb-ft). The top speed is 235 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.6 seconds.
All engines come with a 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox delivering the power to an all-wheel drive system.
The new M-Class has a selective damping suspension, while the Airmatic self-leveling air suspension and an Active Curve System with dynamic roll stabilization is available as an option. The SAV equipped with this will be a pleasure to drive.
The safety is at extemely high level – Night View Assist Plus including pedestrian recognition, Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Active Park Assist and Distronic Plus and some other intersting systems.
The price is not announced, yet!

KW now offers Variant 3 coilover for BMW 1-Series M Coupe. The suspension kit will further improve the handling of the sport variant of 1-Series. The enhanced adjustable compression damping allows the M Coupe to expertly master sharp bends. So, the car is easier to handle at high speeds and the driver receives greater response from the road.
However, if you think that the comfort will suffer, you are wrong. At low speed, the impact of transverse joints is no longer transferred unfiltered into the passenger cabin for example. So, you receive not only stiffened suspension, but a better comfort, too.
Of course, the stance can be adjusted to your taste – thanks to the continuously variable suspension lowering . BMW 1-Series M Coupe with KW Coilover Variant 3 can be lowered between 10 and 35 millimetres at the front and 5 and 25 millimetres at the rear axle.
Last, but not least, there are six levels of firmness. The price of this pleasure is 1879 Euro including VAT, so if you are considering a suspension upgrade for your 1-Series M Coupe, KW has the answer.

A month after the scoring points in the first two rounds of the FIA GT3 Europe Championship in Portugal – Dan Brown and Glynn Geddie with AF Corse STP Ferrari F458 lined up at the weekend on the newly-configured Silverstone Grand Prix circuit for the two gruelling one-hour follow-up races in the series.
The youngest drivers have contract with Italian AF Corse Ferrari racing team, and are sponsored by legendary fuel additives brand, STP, Apex Tubulars plus car styling company, Brown & Geeson, to drive the competition derivative of the Ferrari 458 supercar, prepared by AF Corse in Piacenza, Italy.
There was a mechanical problem at the mandatory driver change-over on Saturday. Still, the team set their sights realistically on a podium finish, if not victory itself. But in race two, Dan put the disappointment behind him, again lapping amongst the fastest, to charge to a great fourth place overall with team-mate Geddie.
“It was good to leave Silverstone with more points under our belt. It’s a super-tough championship, and I’m proud to be one of only seven British drivers in the series, and hugely honoured to be driving for the prestige AF Corse Ferrari racing team…and there couldn’t be a more exciting way to learn a bit of Italian!”, commented Dan Brown, after the race.
“ I think we can be satisfied with P4 and our consistently strong pace all weekend was very encouraging, so we will keep pushing and hopefully bring home a podium at the next rounds of the series, at Navarra, Spain on July 2/3.”, Glynn Geddie added.
There is something wrong with the new 2012 BMW 1-Series. Just a day after the car has been revealed and the M Sport package is already on its way. Probably, the manufacturer is scared that the new 1-Series won’t so appreciated like the previous model, so they are hurrying to improve the exterior of the car.
The ///M Sport package consists of a new front bumper, revised rear bumper and big alloy wheels. The interior boasts a sport steering wheel, door sill with ///M logo and some aluminum trim with blue accents.
There is no information about the price list, but it won’t be cheap. Still, it is a kind of improvement for new the bland 1-Series.
We are eager to see, how the fans will respond to the bold design, which has nothing in common with the aggressive cars designed by Chris Bangle.
So, what is actually the SUV? According to the manufacturers this is a “Sport Utility Vehicle”. It is 4 wheel drive, or maybe not? It can take you off-road, or maybe not? What is the difference between a crossover and a SUV?
How it all began? The SUV was actually extremely popular in the 1930s for many years on. They were mostly bought by rural people who were able to take advantage of the good off-road capabilities of these vehicles.
During the late 1990s when these vehicles were gaining popularity, they used to be based on pick-ups. However in the beginning on 2000s the prices of oil, gas and maintenance pushed towards using automobile platforms and Crossovers started to take over.
What is the situation today? In Europe these cars are losing popularity more and more. They are gradually replaced by crossovers because of their lower maintenance fees, better mpg figures and smooth design. In North America people are still using SUVs for farms or in case the family owns something that needs hauling like trailers, caravans etc..
The father of all SUVs Chevrolet Suburban 1937
In Europe, however, the SUV vehicles seem to be doomed. Not too many manufacturers bother developing new models anyway. At least not in the way we know SUVs. VW for example has the TIGUAN. It is based on the VW golf platform and shares the same engines and transmissions. Having 17” alloys and low profile tires, despite the optional 4motion all it will not take too far away from the tarmac roads. Being higher than the golf and heavier than the Golf, it does worse MPG wise. So basically you could get a VW Golf Variant with better dynamics, better MPG figures and better price and only lose the great possibility of climbing small curbs in the city.
So, what is the conclusion? Is it cheaper, not really. Is it comfortable, maybe, if you love boats. Just get yourself a nice saloon or a huge van. It is better to have one or two features right, rather than having all wrong.
Mazda MX-5 is the world’s best-selling two-seat roadster. It celebrates production of over 900 000 units and it has been ranked the highest sports car in the 2011 J.D. Power ownership satisfaction survey, published last week.
The iconic Mazda MX-5 is priced at just £17 990 and it goes up to £23 225 for the top-of-range model. Two new special edition Kendo models are also on sale from £19 270.
The MX-5 beats the Volkswagen Scirocco, Audi TT, and Mercedes-Benz CLK and SLK.
WhatCar? magazine commented: “The MX-5 proves that sports cars don’t need to be sophisticated, luxurious or expensive to be fun-to-drive. Mazda’s MX-5 has been commended in the past and this year its margin of victory is even bigger than it was in 2010.”
“Today, the Mazda MX-5 remains unrivalled as a rewarding sportscar that can also be used for everyday motoring all year round,” said Peter Allibon, Sales Director, Mazda Motors UK.
“The MX-5 soft-top continues to offer the purest, fun-to-drive thrills, while the Roadster Coupe’s folding hard top provides a more refined experience, with that same exhilarating drive. Its low running costs and legendary reliability means the MX-5 remains an extremely competitive proposition as hundreds of very satisfied owners confirm.”, he added.
“Whether potential buyers are considering purchasing any of the regular MX-5 models, or the latest ‘Kendo’ special editions, this J.D. Power survey result shows that they’d be joining a group of owners who simply love their cars,”, said Allibon.
“It is little wonder that it continues to break records as the world’s best-selling open top roadster.”, he finished.
