Lexus Shows the Refreshed IS Model in Beijing

2017 Lexus IS Front View Lexus has made a great furor at the Beijing Motor Show with the introduction of the newest variant of the emblematic Lexus IS model. With fresh looks and number of important changes, the car is ready to tackle any untamed spirit. For the first time, the IS model was introduced back in 2013, displaying new direction of company’s design strategy and also offering more than enough performance.

Minimal Exterior Changes

And due to the many likes that the exterior design has gathered, Lexus has decided to keep its essence intact and its spirit alive. Well, there are some important changes like the new front fascia, which now includes new design of the headlamps, large air intakes in the front bumper and an evolution of Lexus’ spindle grille.

The IS keeps its sleek profile defined by standard 10-spoke 17-inch wheels with new design, while the rear features more pronounced “L”-shaped LED light guide and rectangular chrome exhaust tips. Lexus is also offering two new paint schemes: Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black Glass Flake.

More Refined Interior

Inside, changes include multimedia display screen which is now 10.3 inches big; “Enter” buttons added to the sides of the Remote Touch Interface (RTI) on the center console; refined audio and ventilation-control panel with hairline-finish surface; new stitching on top of the meter hood; refined speedometer and tachometer.

Just like the additional exterior paint scheme, Lexus is offering new colors for the interior. Precisely, the Moonstone and Ivory have been replaced by Chateau. Other changes, which are absolutely new to the IS include the cup holders, a new larger leather-wrapped palm rest with stitching and redesigned in-dash analogue clock.

Power & Safety

Just like three years ago, the IS will be offered with three engine offerings. The rear-wheel-drive IS 200t will be driven by the 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline-4 with intercooler mated to a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. Fitted with Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide (VVT-iW), this unit’s power is rated at 245 hp (180kW) at 5,800rpm or torque 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque at 1,650 to 4,400rpm.

In terms of safety, the new IS has been upgraded with the Lexus Safety System +, which combines Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beam (AHB) and Radar Cruise Control.

There are no particular details when this vehicle is coming to dealerships, but we hope it is as soon as possible. Stay tuned.

Mazda CX-4 Crossover SUV Finally Revealed in Beijing

With its sexy proportions and visual appearance, the latest addition to Japanese’s company’s new-generation lineup, has been gathering glances and praises at the event. Of course, the attractive vehicle incorporates the newest SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO—Soul of Motion design.

The goal of the CX-4 is to exceed existing categories and stereotypes with its dynamic design, planted stance and sleek, coupe-like cabin. This also gives the model an outstanding presence. Other features to be are the exceptional functionality and user-friendliness of the technology gadgets, as well as the comfortability of the cabin.

Renault KOLEOS, Brand’s First D-Segment SUV, Revealed in Beijing

The next brand to introduce an entirely new sports utility vehicle is Renault, with its recently teased KOLEOS. This high-end and totally redesigned SUV, which is brand’s first D-segment model, is about to reach 80 markets! And we think that this news is exciting.

The world premiere of the flagship SUV Renault KOLEOS, shows that the French brand is opting to bring about more powerful styling, unique features and full SUV capability is one vehicle.

The flagship SUV has a user-friendly 4×4 technology and a function which allows an effortless switching back and forth between 2WD, 4WD AUTO and 4WD LOCK modes. In addition, the transmission that the SUV includes also boasts enhanced safety and stability by neutralizing understeer and oversteer as well as by optimizing grip in difficult conditions. Volkswagen Premieres the Hybrid SUV of the Future!

Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE is the strongly teased and highly anticipated vehicle, which has just made its Beijing debut today. If you remember well the last information revealed, this concept previews the future of Volkswagen’s sport utility vehicles. Powered by a plug in powertrain that drives all four wheels, this SUV is a step forward in brand’s more eco-minded future.

In addition, VW is also debuting here the new Curved Interaction Area: this is an entirely new digital display and control concept, which merges the innovative curved infotainment display with the interactive displays and controls. As a result, there is a brand new human-machine interface (HMI).

Comfortable, spacious, with excellent traction of an off-road vehicle and the agility of a sport sedan, T-Prime Concept GTE simply combines everything that one might need in a vehicle. Here are the details.

Exterior

Starting-off with the exterior, here are some exiting facts about this concept. First, the design is an example of the Volkswagen SUV of the modern days. For instance, there is the chrome radiator grille that extends across the entire width of the front end and integrates the LED headlights. Besides the impressive front of the vehicle, another identifying feature is the opposing window and character lines, where the window line begins in the hood and ends in the side window of the D-pillar at the rear. On the other hand, the character line, begins in the rear lights, slices through the rear wheel arches with a razor-sharp undercut and ends in the front wing.

Volkswagen has revealed that the T-Prime Concept GTE has been based on the modular longitudinal platform (MLB); meaning that it is 199.6 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 67.2 inches tall. We also see the typical for all Volkswagen plug-in hybrid and EVs C-shaped Daytime Running Lights in the front bumper. The large wheel arches are filled out with huge 22-inch alloys and 285/40 tires.

The expressive exterior invites us to look include. The cabin is sporty and stylish, and features many technology innovations. A lot of materials have been used: from aluminum used for the surrounds and door handles, through the blue leather for the upper part of dashboard, door panels, steering wheel rim, to the glossy-black surfaces of the wing-shaped front side of dashboard, center console, door accents and multifunction switch arrays on steering wheel. The new Active Info Display has a 12.0-inch screen where all important vehicle information is shown. The curved home screen is sized 15.0-inch and can be configured by the driver or front passenger. Another revolutionary feature of the T-Prime Concept GTE includes “by wire” control of the gear shift unit for the 8-speed automatic gearbox on the center console. In addition, the multifunction steering wheel comes without switches, because the individual functions are activated by pressure or with a swipe gesture.

To make a tribute to the Chinese lifestyle, (after all the premiere is in Beijing) the color and materials of the T-Prime Concept GTE are based on water, earth, wood, metal, and fire. These five elements have been inseparably intertwined. For instance, water is expressed via the petrol-blue body paint color “Beihai Blue”, “Xirallic” and “Ipanema Blue”.

The earth is a solid element that brings everything into balance, and leather and Alcantara in the light-grey contrasting color “Mistral”, and the wood accents in “Walnut Trunk”. The metal can be found in the polished and satin aluminum accents. At last, fire is envisioned through the leather piping on the seats in the color “Himalayan Brown.”

Powertrain

Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE is driven by a 375 horsepower (276 kW) plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It includes electric motor, turbocharged gas engine, and battery, which can charge externally or during the drive. In the silent electric E-Mode, it permits up to 31 miles of zero-emission driving in metropolitan areas. Housing an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine producing 248 hp and 273 lb-ft, as well as an electric motor which develops a power of 134 hp and a maximum torque of 258 lb-ft, the full system power impresses with a total output of 375 hp and 516 lb-ft of system torque. This force is driving all four wheels.

In hybrid operation, the fuel consumption has been measured 29 mpg, while the combined fuel consumption in the NEDC cycle for plug-in hybrid models is 87 mpg. In GTE mode, the T-Prime Concept GTE accelerates to 60 in 6.0 seconds and has a top speed of 139 mph. And if you ask about the recharging, the concept is fully charged after just two hours and 30 minutes.

Audi A6 and A7 Get More Style with Significant Updates

Audi A7 Sportback Front View Audi A6 and A7 Sportback models are getting more and more stylish, with its new equipment and sharper exterior updates. In addition, the interior of all models include enhancements and more new equipment. There is more to that: a new, comprehensive equipment package for the A6 allroad quattro.

Modifications to the Exterior

He significant updates here are based on the key points to combine quality, design and technology. To go into the details, the exterior changes include modifications to the front end (bold contours now surround the air inlets in the new front apron), struts in high-gloss black dividing the lateral ventilation grilles. The side sill and rear bumper are also more angular in shape. There is also a new diffuser, which rounds out the lower rear end.

In terms of connectivity and entertainment, the Audi smartphone interface puts the customized environments Apple Car Play and Android Auto on the MMI monitor. There are also other new features like the inductive charging function of the Audi phone box and two Audi tablets.

The Advanced Pack

Furthermore, there is an extensive Advanced package which is suitable for all variants. It includes new paint finish Soho brown and the new color structure gray for the add-on parts, 20-inch wheels and quattro permanent all-wheel drive with sport differential. The pack gives to the cabin sport seats upholstered in high-end Valcona leather, the Santos brown with new silver contrasting stitching harmonizes with inlays in Aluminum Ellipse silver and fine grain birch natural agate gray. There are also velour floor mats.

Audi’s upgraded A6 and A7 models will be available to order globally soon with first deliveries in the summer. And the best thing is that there is no change in the starting prices.

Is this the Car of the Future? Shell Previews Innovative Concept Vehicle [w/video]

Shell Concept Car front view Shell Concept Car has been unveiled today showing strong potential for environmentally viable city car driving. Designed as a three seater this car is a preview that energy efficiency improvements can be achieved by using cutting edge technology available today through a process of “co-engineering”. This process allows vehicle’s body, engine design and lubricants to be created all-together.

During the independent testing, Shell gathered information that the car would deliver 34% reduction in primary energy use over its entire lifecycle. And this is compared to the typical city cars. In addition, the concept would use around half the energy required to build and run than a typical small family car as well as 69% less than that of a typical sports utility vehicles.

As a matter of fact, the car is the result of a co-engineering collaboration between vehicle, engine and lubricant designers. This only means that each of the three elements of the car is tailored to work optimally. For instance, concept’s gasoline consumption has been measured during steady state and urban driving styles. Test results include a steady state consumption of 107 miles per gallon [2.64Litres per 100km] [38km/Litres] [89.1 miles per gallon US] at 70kmph/45mph and an improvement of 4.67g CO2/km on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

The Shell Concept Car was tested independently alongside a range of other cars under comparable conditions. This is how the designers have measured the fuel economy and CO2 emissions. During these tests, the Shell Concept Car produced lower CO2 emissions than both a petrol city car (28%) and a hybrid car (32%).

There is more, Shell’s Concept Car is actually a “radical rethink on the way in which cars are designed, developed and produced”. First of all, it features lightweight technology. Can you imagine that the car weighs only 550kg? And by the way, the materials for its production low energy and CO2 footprint.

Furthermore, a number of the car’s components were created using 3D printing, which significantly accelerates the construction. For the body, the designers also worked with recycled carbon fiber. In addition, the concept car makes use of a modified version of Shell’s Drive App via a smartphone, thus giving the driver real time feedback an on-screen.

In terms of styling … Shell says that the concept represents a new take on the ‘tall and narrow’ look: with the dials are up, the sporty central driving position and two passenger seats behind.

Shell Concept Car is a project, which shows enormous potential when one uses the best of today’s technology. We could actually have a major impact on energy use and reduce the CO2 emissions!

Renault KOLEOS is Ready to Rock and Roll in Beijing

Renault KOLEOS front view Another upcoming vehicle has been revealed ahead of its official debut and it is the Renault KOLEOS. It is about to make its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show, showing innovations in terms of styling and design. There have been scarce details revealed and just one image, previewing the future D-segment SUV. As a matter of fact, the KOLEOS model rounds out Renault’s high-end range, playing a prominent role in company’s product offensive. Speaking of which, it has achieved record-breaking year because of the introduction of 10 new models worldwide.

With the new KOLEOS and its beautiful design as well as strong engineering, the French company aims to enhance its appeal and boost its international growth. This of course, includes China where recently Renault opened a plant in Wuhan.

Volkswagen Shows First Looks of the Upcoming Amarok

Volkswagen Amarok Sketches front view Volkswagen has big news and we mean it literally. The toughest and biggest vehicle in its lineup (precisely in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles lineup) is the Amarok, which is about to make it to the catwalk with its brand new appearance. The German company has unveiled some details and showed three teaser sketches of the changes, which the new Amarok will include.

The images show clearly the values of the premium pick-up. Volkswagen is obviously counting on the combination of combine passenger car-like on-road manners and the full off-road capability… just like it does now. So there are no surprises here.

From what we can tell, the vehicle definitely sports more athletic front. VW also unveiled some of the dimensions of the car including the length, which is 5.25 meters, and the width – 2.23 meters (with the mirrors included).

But there is more to that and it is inside, where one meets modified instrument panel giving the Amarok more premium feel. Some of the striking features of the design and of the new commercial vehicles instrument panel include the prominent horizontal lines, while the round contours give way to horizontal and vertical lines, thus expressing more striking appearance.

Besides this information Volkswagen is keeping any other details scarce. What we know is that more about the new Amarok is about to be revealed in due course. At last, we expect to see this VW on sale next year. Stay tuned!

B&B Automobiltechnik with Mighty Update for the Mercedes-AMG C63 Family

B&B Mercedes-AMG C63 Side View Performance upgrades are always a favorable thing when it comes to boosting cars that show some special on-road behavior. And to be more precise, we are having a good example here. It is the upgrade program developed by the specialists at B&B Automobiltechnik for the latest variant of the C63 AMG family. By the way, the lineup of cars has grown significantly and now includes Saloon, Estate, Coupe and Cabriolet. What they have in common is the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine.

This powerful unit produces no less than completely stock 476 hp (350 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque, and 510 hp (375 kW) and 700 Nm (517 lb-ft) in the ‘S’ specification. Exactly these numbers needed to be enhanced by the expert tuners, believe it or not. The B&B engine upgrade is made in two stages with two “end”-outputs respectively.

Stage 1 offers ECU remap, which is boosting the output of each version to 575 hp (423 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque. Based on the first one, Stage 2 requires modifications to the intake system, which improves the ram air volume and flow. In addition, the boost of pressure combined with the appropriate recalibration of the fuel and ignition maps, further enhances the combustion efficiency. The result is a total of 600 hp (441 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft).

B&B Mercedes-AMG C63 Engine

But would it be an effective performance upgrade if there weren’t any changes to the acceleration sprint? The answer is definitely “No”, and we are happy to confirm that the B&B modified AMG C63 hits the benchmark 0-100 km/h in only 3.5 seconds compared to the 4.1 seconds of the stock variant. The 0-200 km/h time has been dropped from 13.1 to 11.5 seconds.

What is more, the control software of the 7-speed AMG DCT transmission is also adapted to the new characteristics of the motor. And don’t worry for the factory speed because it has been changed too. The limiter which allows acceleration up to 250 km/h top speed has been removed, allowing the car to exceed 320 km/h.

The performance increase is also complemented by sport spring set, dropping the ride height by 25 mm; the height adjustable B&B/KW V3 coil-over suspension kit with adjustable bounce and rebound control; the high performance brake system and deep-dish B&B B21 alloy wheels.

Now this is a nice tuning, isn’t it?

RevoZport is Back with Stylish RZ Aero Pack for Mercedes-AMG GT and GTS

RevoZport Mercedes-AMG GTS-RZ front view Mercedes-AMG has developed the exclusive GT for those wanting to ride a true sports car with first class racetrack performance, but still perfect for everyday practicality. It is for sure a pure joy for driving, since it has a lot of beneficial characteristics like the front mid-mounted engine layout and the lightweight aluminum chassis! But when it comes to tuning, more is always better and this means that giving an aero pack to such model can be only advantageous for its driving capabilities.

So, here steps in the team at RevoZport, which has designed and created a special aero enhancement pack for the GT and GTS models. It is perfect for those, who want a little bit more from the original design of the car, but yet do not want to overdo it.

In this project, the designers were inspired by the SLS Black series and thus have added more aggressive front splitters and canards at the front. On the opposite side, the rear received two options (depending on the wish of the customer): a duckbill trunk lip spoiler or a fixed GT wing for extra down-force.

For this particular tuning RevoZport counted on carbon Kevlar material, which is typically utilized in bulletproof vests. It has been chosen for the front add-on splitter and the vented hood, thus making them almost invincible to scratches.

Alpha-N Performance Boosts the BMW X Range

Alpha-N Performance BMW X6 Front view The BMW X range is growing continuously and with the years becomes more and more versatile. The Sport Activity Vehicles now comprise of five models. The X family starts with the 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, front-wheel drive X1 sDrive 16d and ends up with the powerful X6 M. The latter is driven by the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which pushes 575hp on the road through all four wheels.

Alpha-N Performance specialists have been very ambitious and have made a special EVOX performance upgrade kits for most of the current BMW X range. Precisely, the EVOX kits are available for the following engines: The first one is the 18d, which features an increase up to 33hp and 70Nm. Then comes the 20d with boost of 42hp and 70Nm. The 25d adds to its engine 33hp and 120Nm, while the 30d – 67hp and 80Nm. The power increase of the 35d and 40d is 62hp and 111Nm, while the one of M50d is up to 43hp and 161Nm.

Continuing with the other models in the range, after the upgrade the 18i now has an extra of up to 32hp and 51Nm; the 20i – up to 37hp and 91Nm; 25i adds 49hp and 47Nm, and 28i – 25hp and 91Nm. The 35i has received a boost in power of up to 62hp and 121Nm, while the 50i adds 69hp and 161 Nm. At last, the X5 M/X6 M feature the biggest power increase of up to 89hp and 155 Nm!

As a matter of fact, the photos in the gallery below show the X5 and X6 models, which have been running on 10.0×21-inch OZ Racing Superturismo Dakar alloys. The wheels have been coupled with 265/40R21 and 295/35R21 tyres. In addition, the X3 is wearing 9.0 and 10.0×20-inch OZ Racing Leggera HLT-lightweight wheels coupled with 255/35R20 and 275/35R20 tyres.
