  • Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato

In 2021, as part of the centenary celebrations for the collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Zagato, which began in 1921 with the TIPO G1, the Milanese Atelier chose to commemorate this important anniversary with the creation of a new model.
The idea was to celebrate the current Alfa Romeo production of Giulia and Stelvio, together with the legendary 6-cylinder engine in its latest GTAm evolution with a two-door Coupé Zagato body in carbon fibre and a shortened wheelbase.

The project immediately met with the interest of a German customer, selected from among Zagato collectors, with many Alfa Romeo in his garage including, in addition to a rare 8C Competizione, all the different models of the Alfa Romeo’s recent era.
As a fan of Granturismo Zagato models, he drives regularly an Alfa Romeo S.Z. (1990) but also several Aston Martin Zagatos of the latest generation.

A perfect DNA, therefore, to christen this new chapter in the legendary history of the two Milanese companies and, to add a further touch of exclusivity, the project started from the Giulia Quadrifoglio Manual updated by Zagato in its contents to the GTAm, to retain the 6-speed mechanical gearbox.
As far as design is concerned, if for the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo’s foundation (1910-2010), Zagato chose the ‘TZ’ theme, creating the TZ3 Corsa with 8C engine – winner at Villa D’Este – followed by the TZ3 Stradale based on the Chrysler Viper and immediately named by the international press as the first American Alfa Romeo, for this new double anniversary the theme was instead ‘SZ’.

TZ and SZ boast two different design languages but both dress the Zagato concept of Granturismo.
The design of the prototype Giulia SWB (short wheelbase) Corsa, is, therefore, a natural evolution of the Alfa Romeo SZ models starting with the Codatronca version, born in 1961, and which dominated its GT Class in 1962 – 1963 up to the more recent S.Z. whose front end inspired the front treatment of the very recent Tonale.
Unlike the S.Z. of 1990, based on the Alfa Romeo 75 Evoluzione, which did not have a shortened wheelbase, this new prototype was named “SWB” because it was developed in-house by Zagato from the Giorgio modular floorplan of the Giulia and Stelvio, optimizing its overhangs and wheelbase, in keeping with Zagato’s sporting tradition.
The design process was carried out according to the Zagato idea of teamwork, enlisting the support of Alejandro Mesonero (Head of Alfa Romeo design) and his team from the outset.

The conception, development and production of the car were, however, carried out entirely and independently by the Milanese Atelier without external support. The presence of the Alfa Romeo badge on the car is solely for descriptive and promotional purposes and Zagato’s choice to draw inspiration from the Alfa Romeo S.Z.
The car, after the photo shoot on the ‘La Pista’ circuit in Arese, will then be officially handed over to the customer, to round off an important year for Zagato and seal a collaboration that over the course of more than 100 years has given rise to more than 150 models of the highest collectors’ value.

  • 2017 Vanquish Zagato Volante: too much refinement is never enough

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato VolanteAston Martin proudly announces the partner of the Vanquish Zagato Coupe: Vanquish Zagato Volante. This sweetheart will accompany the North American debut of the Coupe model and will be strictly limited to just 99 vehicles. Created at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, England, Volante has a lot to demonstrate.

Overwhelming customer interest and positive feedback

Zagato Volante is a fine creation from a collaboration of almost 60 years. As you might know, everything started with the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato race car and throughout the years there were new and worthy additions: DB7 Vantage Zagato of 2002, 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato and now, the most recent to date is the Zagato Coupe, announced earlier this year.

SEE ALSO: Top 5 facts you don’t know about Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept

In fact, there were also previous convertibles Zagato models: we immediately think of the striking V8 Vantage Volante, first shown back in 1987 and the DB AR1 back in 2003. The last one, the DB AR1 was also limited to 99 units and is considered to be one of the finest collectable models worldwide. And as it looks like, Aston Martin team continues the tradition to strike our minds with unique style and quality.

    More in-detail

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante

Vanquish Zagato Volante is expected to be a mighty addition to the lineup: embodying Aston Martin’s refined taste and meticulous attention to detail, Zagato is expected to deliver 592hp (444kW) and have an acceleration rate, measured at 3.7 seconds for a run from 0 to 100km/h (62mph).

    Exterior tweaks

In terms of exterior styling, Volante shares the same proportions as the Coupe: definitely an instant-recognizable Aston Martin vehicle, this one also has this classic Zagato twist with round tail light reflectors and the same bladed LED technology as in the Vulcan supercar. We see neat twin cowls on the rear deck that blend into the leading edge of the luggage compartment, concealing a folding hood and cool carbon-fiber sills around the lower body to add that boost to the sporty appearance and performance. We tend to like this design.

    Interior

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante

Of course, we expect nothing, but the finest, as it comes to comfort and quality of an Aston Martin vehicle. Brand’s specialist ‘Q’ division adds luxurious and stylish components that include herringbone carbon-fiber, anodized bronze detailing and fine Bridge of Weir leather. Of course, we expect that there would be tons of personalization features, but what we also know so far is that the Volante will offer 100% Aston Martin driving experience, blended with new-age technologies. Cool.

  • 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe: fine style and unneeded changes

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Aston Martin announces a limited lineup of the Vanquish Zagato Coupe. As the name suggests, the premium automobile brand keeps in touch with its Italian design-house Zagato and together they bring something special. Or, at least, they try to make it special.

We know that Aston Martin delivers only high-end vehicles, but we also know that everything should have a limit: even the trial to make something look even better than it should be. But let’s check out the vehicle first, shall we?

Vanquish Zagato Concept was first revealed at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy back in May, 2016. And since this glorious moment, the customer interest has greatly risen up and Aston Martin team decided to deliver more of these. To be precise, there will be 99 Zagato Coupes built at the production facility in Gaydon, England.

As you might know, this is the fifth model to emerge from the collaboration: Aston Martin Zagato Coupe will join the 1960 DB GT Zagato Racing, 1886 V8 Vantage Zagato, 2002 DB7 Vantage Zagato and the 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato. Cool.

So, what does the Zagato Coupe offer?

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Vanquish Zagato comes with Aston Martin’s powerful 6.0-liter V12 unit that has undergone some slight refinements and now offers a total of 600hp (447kW) or, in other words, this beauty accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in mere 3.5 seconds.

Also, in terms of drivetrain system, the special vehicle comes with exclusively fine-tuned suspension that delivers a sort of GT driving experience. Not bad. But the question remains: is this titanic power needed, as we are talking about a street-legal machine?!

    Design

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Let’s be honest here: the vehicle is beautiful. Overall. I don’t like the styling at the back, but generally the Vanquish Zagato gives off a sense of power, passion and precision.

SEE ALSO: Aston Martin meets summer with some fresh offerings. Check them out!

Detail highlights include numerous carbon-fiber components, redesigned rear lights with the same bladed LED technology, used for the Vulcan. Furthermore, Zagato’s rear somehow resembles DB11’s, but is uglier. The whole rear design contributes to better aerodynamics, but I find it ugly. Also, the sporty-looking rear is completed with a retractable spoiler and a rear hatch for easy access to the luggage compartment. But it remains ugly.

    Interior design

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Vanquish Zagato welcomes all the drivers to a neatly created interior ambience. The well-known Aston Martin quality is present, along with some changes done by Zagato designers. The carbon-fiber elements are paired with sweet bronze details and along with the fine leather create a rather cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Of course, there is neat Zagato Z stitch pattern on the door section and on the seat that further enhances the feel of exclusivity.

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

So far, so good. Remaining true to its Aston Martin roots, the new Vanquish Zagato also benefits from the fine Italian style and brings high doses of pleasure and excitement. Definitely a worthy family member, the new Vanquish Zagato vehicle stands comfortably along the whole Aston Martin Zagato lineup.

  • Top 5 facts you don’t know about Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept front view Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept has debuted this weekend at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, held at Lake Como. So you have probably heard the big talk around it. However, this car is so uniquely beautiful and one-of-a-kind, that there are probably some facts you have missed during the clamor. Here are our top five facts you don’t know about the new concept.

    Five is Emblematic Number

I’m not being superstitious, but the number five is definitely a meaningful number about the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept. The first and more obvious reason about it is that it is the fifth car born after the collaboration between the British experts at Aston Martin and the Italian design-house Zagato.

On second place, the long-standing partnership between the two companies have lasted (well not 5) over five decades, delivering successful designs and unforgettable emotions to the fans.

The Key in the Design is the Avant-Garde Expression Based on Tradition

Just take a look at the pictures in the gallery below. We must admit that the car looks breath-taking. Its secret is the combination of the acclaimed sporting and dynamic design made by AM, and the material qualities with Zagato’s signature design language.

SEE ALSO: Aston Martin Releases Special Vantage S Blades Edition

All five Zagatos have been inspired by tradition: from the emblematic DB4 GT Zagato of 1960 through to the V12 Vantage Zagato of 2011. Each and every one of them has accentuated key aspects of Aston Martin’s design journey and Zagato’s own race-inspired design language. The goal of both companies was always to deliver the most avant-garde expression. And they definitely did.

The Team Behind the Latest Concept

The latest Vanquish Zagato Concept was actually created by Aston Martin Design team led by Marek Reichman and Andrea Zagato and his design team in Milan. However, the development and engineering happened at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, England.

The Proper Use of Carbon Fiber & New Technology

Most companies rely on slight use of carbon fiber. Despite this, the concept’s bodywork has been entirely made of the lightweight material, with the split lines on the body reduced by the use of large one-piece panels. In addition, the quad-exhaust nestles have been also made by carbon fibre.

Other great design features include round tail light reflectors that evoke the classic rear view of a Zagato, incorporating the same ‘bladed’ LED technology as the Aston Martin Vulcan; the glasshouse wrap around the bodywork; and the ‘double-bubble’ roof. The good and aggressive look of the car has been matched by the uprated V12 engine, which produces 600 PS.

    The Interior

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept interior

When we talk about cars we rarely speak of their interiors and they are usually staying in the shadows. Here however, we should mention some exclusive design touches like the herringbone carbon fibre, which is paired with shadow and anodized bronze and aniline leather; the ‘Z’ quilt pattern stitch on the seat and door sections, as well as the celebrated trademark Zagato ‘Z’ embossed on headrests and stitched into the centre console.

  • Zagato Maserati Mostro Debuts at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

Mostro is a name of a car powered by Maserati and created by Zagato. In fact, it is company’s latest creation, which is set to be revealed during this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The car is not only created to celebrate the centenary of Maserati, but also to honor one of the most iconic racers in Tridente’s history, the Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato Monster. The latter was designed back in 1957 by Frank Costin, who was a specialist in aerodynamics. Then it was coach-built in Milan for the 24 Hours of Le Mans because of a request of Stirling Moss.

    Body

Just like its predecessor, Mostro is built on the philosophy of pure racing mechanics. However, it is also completely road sanctioned. Its chassis is made of a MonoCell of carbon fiber coupled to a mid-structure of steel tubes. This creates the cockpit and the subframe that carries the fuel tank, exhaust system, rear suspension and gearbox.

SEE ALSO: Zagato Shows Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake at Concours D’Elegance

The car is constructed in Italy and Zagato says that its bodywork is entirely carbon fiber. With a coupé-body design built on a sports car chassis, the Mostro features specific 450 S Coupe characteristics that express the classic design and timeless beauty of Zagato vehicles. All in all, its design showcases the spirit of the best aerodynamics combined with the stance of a modern race car.

    Exterior Design

The idea behind this project is to keep the initial design of the 1957 racer. This is visible through the enormous frontal part that houses the engine. In addition, the large front fender runs along the entire length of the frontal part, then it disappears at the door. This is where the line of the car’s massive rear fender begins.

The other design characteristics that define this car are the fixed glass windows along the sides, the wide windshield increasing the visibility, and the high opening of the doors. The large rear fixed-wing creates adequate downforce on the rear axle.

    Engine & Suspension

Under the hood there is a central-front V8 Maserati engine, which has dry-sump lubrication. The unit is linked to a semi-automatic six-speed rear-positioned gearbox. The latter optimally distributes the weight of the car along the longitudinal axis. At the front and the rear Zagato installed double wishbone architecture with a pushrod, spring and shock absorber system.

    Wheels & Tires

This unique car will be running on 19-inch multispoke alloys behind which will be working large disc brakes. The wheels will be fitted with 255/40 R19 and 295/35 R19 rubbers at the front and rear, respectively.

Zagato Maserati Mostro will be exclusive edition and only five examples will be created. Each unit has been already assigned to selected Zagato collectors. First deliveries will happen before December this year.

  • Zagato Shows Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake at Concours D’Elegance

2014-Aston-Martin-Virage-Shooting-Brake-Zagato-THUMB2014 Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake Zagato debuted this weekend at the Concours D’Elegance. This is a one-of-a-kind car, which was commissioned by a client based in Europe, who desired an atelier-level, collectible modern car. As you can see this car features a bespoke cutting-edge Zagato design for this elite Aston Martin vehicle. The car pays homage to Zagato’s artistic tradition as a part of centennial trilogy that started in 2013 with the highly-acclaimed DBS Coupé Zagato Centennial and DB9 Spider Zagato Centennial. This modern interpretation shares similar design cues with the V8 Vantage and Volante of the mid 80s.

In 2013 Zagato paid tribute to Aston Martin’s 100th Anniversary. Back then it revealed the DB9 Spider Zagato Centennial, who was created for the American car collector Peter Read. The DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial was commissioned by a young Japanese collector of modern Zagato cars. Both models were unveiled the same year at Kensington Gardens in London during the official celebration.

After Zagato’s Coupé and Spider, the Shooting Brake is a logical successor. In fact, this is one of the most appreciated body styles, in the Italian and British tradition. Although these cars come to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin, Zagato’s Trilogy arrives also in time with its own 95th Anniversary.

Since the 60s, the Shooting Brake body has referred to a luxury coupé, rigorously-styled with two doors and a functional boot space. This body style was created to match drivers’ sport and leisure passions. An interesting fact is that nearly all of the prestigious English marques include a Shooting Brake mode.

To sum up, there are three different Aston Martin donor cars – the DBS, the DB9 and the Virage; there are three different models of body works – Coupè, Spider and Shooting Brake; and there are three clients from three different continents – Asia, America and Europe.

  • Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este [video]

Lamborghini exhibited a one-off 5-95 Zagato at last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Zagato is celebrating its 95th anniversary with a special project based on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4. The car is commissioned by the collector – Albert Spiess.

The exterior features a lot of typical for Zagato styling cues such as double bubble roof, wind deflector as well as new side intakes, shortened chassis and a sense of energy through fluid and organic surfaces that recall an animal’s muscles as it is ready to leap forward. The volumes intersect each other and suggest a jump, as if the central part of the front is ahead of the fender. The rear volume has been slightly reduced introducing a “coda tronca” (truncated tail) to emphasize the perception of the leap.

    The engine remains untouched – a 5.2-liter V10 naturally aspirated engine – 570HP (419 kW) and 540Nm (397 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is connected to a 6-speed E-gear transmission. 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 10.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).

“We have chosen the Gallardo because it is the most sensational project in Lamborghini’s history. An extraordinary car, perfect in engineering terms, that has brought the image of ‘the Bull’ from a ‘cottage industry’ to a worldwide major industrial reality. The Gallardo production figures exceeded the whole Lamborghini production since its foundation.”, commented Andrea Zagato.

Zagato Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale was shown at the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The rare sports car was developed to celebrate Alfa Romeo’s 100th birthday and is based on Dodge Viper ACR, which was the fastest street legal car around Nurburgring.

Only nine TZ3 Stradale were produced and all of them have a carbon fiber body with a “Kamm-tail” paying tribute to the classic TZ and TZ2. The engine is coming from the well-known 8.4 liter naturally aspirated V10 with 600HP (450 kW) and 760Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds and ¼ mile in mid 11-second range. The engine is mated to 6-speed sequential gearbox.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Vilner Resurrects Alfa Romeo Zagato Roadster

Alfa-Romeo-Zagato-Roadster-by-Vilner-THUMBAlmost a month ago we have seen an upcoming project heading our virtual pages. The exceptional Bulgarian tuning specialists from Vilner has just disclosed their unique restoration work on the emblematic and legendary Alfa Romeo Zagato Roadster.

The two-seater convertible was produced from 1992 until December 1994. More interestingly is the fact that only 350 units of it were planned for production. However, only 284 cars of the model were eventually made.

A logical conclusion is that this makes the RZ the lowest production Alfa Romeo in the automotive history. And even more, this fact makes the car a true collectible which is now searched worldwide.

The car has received a full treatment and is fully serviced, despite the difficulties that professionals at Vilner have encountered in finding the needed parts. Firstly, they have put their attention and endeavors on the chassis, exhaust system, engine. Here, the engine covers are painted in red matt, which entirely reminds of Ferrari style.

Secondly, Vilner replaced all seals which needed substitution and then created all new hood for the Zagato Roadster. In order to make the vehicle look like it has just come out of the factory, it was painted in its original red color, and in addition everything throughout the interior was renewed.

To be more precise, Vilner has resurrected the interior of the RZ by equipping it with new floor mats, door panels, dashboard, center console, two seats, steering wheel and transmission. The only element which is absolutely new to this car is the sport wheels.

In the end, the tuning company revealed that all the work done on the Alfa has led to one more new happy customer who is based in Germany. And if you want to see more pictures of this project’s working process you should definitely visit Vilner’s official Facebook page, where in addition you will get inspired daily!
