  • 2013 BMW Z4 sDrive18i Unveiled

2013 BMW Z4 sDrive18i is the latest version of the popular Z4 roadster which is set to go officially on sale in March next year. The new model comes with a new entry-level sDrive18i, while at the same time the Pure Traction Design package enhanced the level of sophistication and high specification never seen before on Z4.

The engine is a de-tuned version of an existing 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-scroll turbocharged one. It generates 156 hp (115 kW) at 5,000rpm from its 1,997cc powerplant. This means that the vehicle effortlessly accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in only 7.9 seconds before going on to a top speed of 137mph. It manages to do this while still recording 41.5mpg and emissions of just 159g/km.

The other engines included in the model range are the sDrive20i, which comes with a 184 hp (135 kW) that achieves 41.5mpg and 159g/km CO2, and the four-cylinder twin-scroll turbocharged sDrive28i, and the six-cylinder twin-turbocharged sDrive35i and the sDrive35is which produce respectively 245 hp (180 kW), 306 hp (225 kW) and 340 hp (250 kW). All variants are rated at an electronically-limited 155mph top speed.

The power is transmitted through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Customers can also specify an eight-speed automatic with gear shift paddles located on the steering wheel, while buyers of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is have a seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission, again with gear shift paddles, as standard.

All versions come as a standard EfficientDynamics programme, which enhances engine’s performance, economy and cuts emissions. The programme includes Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering with Servotronic, Reduced Rolling Resistance Tyres, on-demand control of the engine’s ancillaries and Optimum Shift Indicator on manual transmission cars.

In terms of exterior design, the Z4 has minor enhancements. For instance, the headlights now include white LED corona rings and a white ‘eyebrow’ with additional chrome detailing, while in profile the side gill features chrome detailing and LED side repeater lights.

However, BMW introduces here the Pure Traction Design package, where the car is in Valencia Orange with an optional black contrast roof. The model also comes with Sport seats in Alcantara and leather with contrast stitching, Anthracite headlining and a unique metal weave interior trim.

Standard equipment across all models now includes DAB radio, Xenon headlights, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and Sport multi-function steering wheel. Three new colours of Mineral Grey, Glacier Silver and Valencia Orange are offered while two new styles of alloy wheel, 17-inch and an 18-inch V-spoke styling wheel are available as an option.

Another important feature here is the standard Drive Performance Control function that is another first and this allows the driver to alter, depending on model specification, the throttle and steering response, level of ride comfort, Dynamic Stability Control response and, on automatic or Double Clutch Transmission cars, gear change times.

  • 2012 SR BMW Z4 – Spicing Everything Up

2012-SR-BMW-Z4-THUMB2012 SR BMW Z4 is the latest conversion by the tuners from SR Auto Group done on a unique BMW model. Although it is not changed in terms of performance, it was “spiced up” with unique design elements.

In short, SR Auto Group has enriched the already outstanding BMW Z4 model. The latter stands for style, speed and performance, and more importantly is able to capture any heart with its 245 horsepower (180 kW).Its torque produces 350Nm (260 lb-ft).

And the result is that the Z4 absolutely effortlessly accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.7 seconds.

The so called spicing that came from the tuners was as you might have already guessed from the wheels. And this time they are more than unique. Painted in red, they fit perfectly this BMW Z4, thus making the car the star of the show.

In addition, the wheels are fitted with a set of 20″ CEC C882, which have been revamped with a two tone finish sporting a vibrant red shade. Sometimes a bit of color is just what one needs to spice up ones day!

  • LSD Doors for the BMW Z4

LSD-Doors-BMW-Z4-thumbFancy a unique feature on your BMW Z4? Well, add some character with Lamborghini Countach style doors. Spread those wings and turn heads as you go – its the LSD-door hinges offered by LSD. That type of upgrade is a first among BMW Roadsters with a foldable hardtop.

The standard door structure pretty much stays the same. It’s the hinges that make the difference. The package includes them and all the necessary wiring and mounting materials and accessories. The LSD door fittings are attached to the original mounting points of the dismantled original hinges. Adjustable, mechanical stops prevent the doors from opening too far or, when open, prevent the door from falling inwards or downwards. Thanks to the Guided Roller System (GRS), all of the processes can be executed precisely and safely.

All parts provided come with TUV certificates and, on the car, the doors fare just as good in crash tests. So the LSD solution for the Z4 turns out as a very clever and seamless way to add some spice to this iconic roadster. All and all, one has to pay $2.308 for that privilege.

  • 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i

Here is a little riddle! Rear-wheel drive, wind in the hair, aggressiveness, style, unique driving pleasure and 245PS?

Volkswagen Eos? No! Mazda MX-5 Miata? No, again! There is only one answer having all these qualities – 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i. Although the car is not an entirely new model, it received BMW’s brand new 2.0 liter twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine with a nice power of 245PS (180 kW) and a train-pulling 350Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. This new engine replaces the well-known 3.0 liter six-cylinder petrol in 25i and 30i.

2012 Z4 sDrive28i accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and still returns a nice 41.5 mpg on combined cycle with emissions below 160 g/km. This is possible thanks to a number of modern technology – Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing and VALVETRONIC variable valve opening. The top speed of the roadster is 250 km/h (155 mph), doesn’t matter whether the roof is up or down.

The latest BMW’s roadster has a lot of advantages over the other rivals, but price will not be one of them. Stay tuned for more details and full pricing list of 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i.

  • JM Cardesign BMW Z4 E85

It is a regularly recurring process: if a car manufacturer presents a new model, its predecessor generation often seems outdated and old-fashioned all of a sudden, even though there was no reason for complaint previously. This happens at a time when the model usually has already gone through more or less intense model care. Although this kind of “spontaneous aging” is rather below average for the first-generation-BMW Z4, JM Cardesign from Bergheim performed a very special kind of face-lifting on the E85-Roadster presented here. The tuner fitted the “old” Z4 with the front pieces of the new E89 model. The front bumper and grille were modified in extensive handiwork to match the headlights, mudguards and bonnet of the E85. The result is very harmonious: even MBMW enthusiasts will take a moment to entirely identify the cross-generation transformation. JM Car Design also applied some classic craftsmanship in the area of the rear wheel runs.

The sheet was extended by about 30 millimetres on each side, and the wheel running edge was then re-built in the “original” look. Of course, this widening also required adjustment of the rear apron and side sills to the new situation. The latter also had ventilation openings integrated that facilitate the cooling air flow to the rear brake system (in connection with the corresponding ducts). Before the vehicle was re-painted from silver to solid black in the in-house paint shop, JM Cardesign made the antenna, which is usually located on the rear left mudguard, vanish. It is now invisibly placed in the rear bumper. The door handles, side mirrors and side indicator lights in a BMW logo shape at the doors were also equipped with coming-home-lighting LEDs by JM Cardesign.

The car is lowered by a 3-thread chassis version KW, adjustable in several parameters (height, pressure and tensile dampening), which also provides for fresh driving dynamics. The three-part screwed Work VS XX-light-metal wheel rims with their stars in matte “Gunmetal” are also put in the best light this way; at the front, the 9×20 inches ET32 size is used – at the rear even a full 11×20 inches ET32. The fine wheels were equipped with Dunlop Sport Maxx high-performance tyres in 245/30R20 and 285/25R20 respectively. The long front end of the vehicle is given added stiffness by the Wiechers dome rod installed under the bonnet. The Eisenmann end muffler with its 76 millimetre double-end tube emphasises the deep six-cylinder sound of the Z4 3.0i audibly. JM Cardesign took action in the interior as well. Various interior parts like the dashboard cover, entrance bars, steering wheel spokes and the gear knob were painted the same colour as the car.
