Subaru reveals the new 2022 WRX lineup

2022 Subaru WRX Subaru of America unveiled the new 2022 WRX, the brand’s vehicle with most advanced features to date. This is the fifth generation of the lineup, which comes with the massive 271hp via a 2.4-liter turbocharged Subaru BOXER engine, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

New for the lineup features include 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia system and latest generation EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, as well as an optional new gearbox, electronically controlled dampers that can tailor the dynamic performance to the driver’s preferences with four modes and an entire new platform – the Subaru Global Platform, which improves safety, dynamics, and reductions in noise, vibration, and harshness.

Drivetrain system

For 2022, the WRX model lineup comes with a BOXER engine with horsepower at 5,600 rpm, a broader torque curve with 258 lb-ft of torque from 2,000-5,200 rpm. The engine also comes with an increased displacement and turbocharging system, as well as controlled wastegate and air bypass valves.

As it comes to suspension, the new WRX comes with a fine-tuned system, specially designed to improve the track performance and a new dual-pinion electric power steering system that separates the driver’s input shaft from the motor-assist shaft.

Also, when equipped with summer performance tires on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, the 2022 WRX has achieved high levels of performance and ride comfort.

Standard on all trim levels with automatic gearbox is EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, an electric brake booster, Lane Departure Prevention function, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, and an available Automatic Emergency Steering works in conjunction with a Pre-Collision Braking System.

Exterior design

2022 WRX features a wide body with an aggressive stance and bold look. The front is characterized by the Subaru signature hexagonal grille and the neat new LED headlights design. The prominent lines across the sides and the rear further emphasize the sporty character of the vehicle, while the front fenders are now made of aluminum, which reduces the overall weight and contributes to this neat aggressive look.

Interior design

The cabin is characterized by a black interior theme with red stitching and numerous carbon-fiber elements. The sporty feel is well-pronounced thanks to the flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated switches, as well as the overall clean and straightforward design. 2022 Subaru WRX offers an available 11-Speaker Harman Kardon sound system and an HK 504-watt equivalent amplifier.

The new GT trim level

For 2022, the Subaru team also adds a new top-of-the-line GT trim with electronically controlled dampers that can tailor the dynamic performance to the driver’s preferences with Comfort, Normal, and Sport settings. Subaru reveals further details for the WRX lineup

2018 Subaru WRX STI Subaru of America, Inc. announces details for the latest 2019 WRX and WRX STI models. As you might know, these are special edition series and feature tons of goodies and exclusive additions. And both of them are worth the check out. So, let’s begin with the first one, shall we?

2019 WRX overview

This one comes with 268hp 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged BOXER power unit and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring systems. Furthermore, there is a 6-speed manual gearbox system and optional automatic one with Sport Lineartronic CVT with manual mode.

In terms of utility features, the WRX comes with SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone incorporation systems, Pandora and STARLINK Clouds Apps, Bluetooth connectivity,SiriusXM All Access Radio and Travel Link.

And then there is this 750 WRX Premium trim level. It comes with more exclusive stuff and sportier drivetrain setup. There is this 6-speed gearbox again, but what makes this one different from the previous one is the interior equipment – there are Ultrasuede-trimmed Recaro seats, 8-way power driver’s seat and a moonroof.

WRX STI overview

This one is a bit more powerful, compared to the WRX trim level. It is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine and generates a total of 310 horsepower. There are revised air intakers and high flow performance exhaust system. And again we see this 6-speed manual gearbox that was present with the WRX model.

What is special about this vehicle is that it brings enhanced sporty performance and incorporates such drivetrain systems that contribute to the overall driving pleasure. Indeed, we are talking about Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential, Symmetric All-Wheel Drive and Torque Vectoring and Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control.

Also, there are these same interior utility systems that make the life of the driver and passengers easier. The vehicle is equipped with STARLINK 7.0-inch Multimedia Plus system, STI SPORT Design instrument cluster, Steering Responsive Headlights and more. And last, but not least, all new models come with heated exterior mirrors, dual USB ports in the central console, rear seat armrest with cup holders and off-delay function for the audio system. And exclusively for the STI lineup there are Recaro seats and roof rack mounting brackets.

Subaru Family Will Be Granted With Additional Standard Features

2016 Subaru Family Subaru announced that the Automatic Emergency Braking system will become a standard feature for all of brand’s lineup in the US by 2022. Cool, right?

As you might know, Subaru is one of the 20 automobile manufacturers that received excellent scores by the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEB) contributes to preventing crashes and reduces their severity by engaging the brake system instead of the driver. What the AEB does is to use on-vehicle sensors such as radar and cameras to detect imminent crash, warn the driver and apply the emergency braking, when needed.

Based on tons of evidence that the AEB system actually works effectively, NHTSA and IIHS have created numerous challenges for Subaru and its renowned system, which were no match for all the engineering masterminds of the brand.

Furthermore, IIHS researches has found that the AEB system reduces the rear-end crashes by the incredible 40 per cent. Also, the earliest NHTSA tests show that the use of AEB has prevented a total of 28,000 crashes and 12,000 serious injuries. Sound good, right?

By far the Autonomous Emergency Braking system has been installed on the 2016 Subaru Legacy, Outback, Forester, Impreza, WRX and Crosstrec vehicles. Also, they are geared with the award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. All of these models earhed the 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

Revolutionary Subaru WRX STI Rallycross Car Debuts in NY

Subaru is going to premiere its WRX STI rallycross car at the New York Auto Show tomorrow after a year of secret development. The rally team will compete with this car in the Red Bull Global and X Games Rallycross. Besides its sporting name, this vehicle is actually dubbed VT15x and is based on the popular STI. The technicians at Subaru joined forces for its development with Vermont SportsCar and have finished the racer in four long years. So the expectations on this car are very, very high.

As the technicians even say, this VT15x is not only an evolution of Subaru’s STI, but a revolution in terms of technology and development. Carrying Bucky Lasek’s livery, the model is powered by the 2.0L Boxer engine which produces 580 hp (426 kW) and is mated to a six-speed SADEV sequential gearbox that drives all four wheels. Believe it or not, this car is capable of 0-60 mph acceleration time in just 2 seconds.

Other spectacular features are the specific rallycross widebody and the racing wheels delivered by METHOD. When compared to the previous generation mode which was driven last year, this one is definitely better.

First of all it has optimized weight. Then, its center of gravity is balanced, while the suspension geometry improved. Handling was also made better thanks to the advanced aerodynamics. And all changes meet the GRC and FIA Rallycross homologation standards.

Subaru Rally Team USA will start competing in this year’s season on 31^st of May in the Red Bull Global Rallycross that takes place in Florida, and then on 5^th of June it will opt for the first place in the X Games in Texas.

2015 Subaru WRX S4 Debuts in Japan

2015 Subaru WRX S4 has jus been introduced after it was teased a month ago with a special campaign. The sports sedan will be exclusively distributed throughout Japan and is currently available to order. WRX S4 uses the all-wheel drive (AWD) combined with unique overall safety features, superior environmental friendliness and refined quality. The S4 tag at the end of the name of the car shows the four values of “sports performance”, “safety performance”, “smart driving” and “sophisticated feel”.

WRX S4 is equipped with a high performance 2.0-liter Horizontally-Opposed direct injection turbo “DIT” engine. It produces 304 horsepower (221 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000 to 4,800 rpm. Despite these numbers, the vehicle still delivers fuel economy of 13.2 km per liter.

The unit is teamed with Sport Lineartronic transmission, offering sporty and fun driving. What is more, the Subaru WRX S4 also includes EyeSight driving assist system for enhanced overall safety. Comprehensive body and chassis enhancements have achieved a high-quality ride.

EyeSight delivers more advanced safety features such as driver assistance at wider angles and longer distances, and color recognition. Other new systems include the Active Lane Keep steering assistance system, Pre-Collision Reverse Throttle Management, Brake Light Recognition, Pre-Collision Braking Control and Adaptive Cruise Control.

In terms of passive safety, the car employs more high tensile steel plating with strengthened joints with various structures. These changes not only reduce the overall weight of the car but also contribute for a stronger body. In addition, collision-absorbing structure has been used for the hood and bulkhead as well as for the engine compartment side for increased pedestrian protection.

The exterior design of the WRX S4 expresses strong presence, aggressive but refined styling. The front end was built with the utilization of a nose cone design for a dynamic solid shape. There is the iconic hexagonal grille and the new hawkeye headlights.

At the rear we see a diffuser-integrated bumper and twin dual mufflers, which emphasize low center of gravity and driving performance. There is also a small rear spoiler which optimizes the aerodynamics. The taillights are with thin shape to highlight vehicle width.

Subaru Launches 2015 WRX STI in Japan

2015 Subaru WRX STI has already made its market debut in Europe. Now it is time for the model to go on sale in Japan. The car embodies the WRX series product concept “Pure Power in Your Control” at the highest level. In fact, the WRX STI is the flagship model of the series and every component of it has been upgraded. As a standard this Subaru is equipped with the turbocharged 2.0-liter Boxer engine and multimode Driver’s Control Center Differential (DCCD) system.

“Pure Power in Your Control” concept aims to embody the “absolute speed” and “driving excitement” for sports sedans and also to emphasize the potential of the turbo Boxer engine. The car also has lighter and more rigid body, integrating extensive chassis reinforcements.

Furthermore, symmetrical AWD-based chassis and body performance has been improved and uses optimally the Horizontally-Opposed turbo engine. The Japanese specifications for the WRX STI include 18-inch alloy wheels which were designed to be more rigid and lighter. In addition, LED lighting is employed for the headlights, tail and brake lights and high-mounted brake light. “STI” letters are embossed on the exterior parts such as a front grille and front fenders. The two exterior paint finishes available here are the WR Blue Pearl and Crystal White Pearl.

Inside, the driver’s seat is designed to be like a cockpit. 2015 WRX STI also gets a D-shaped steering wheel, decorative carbon trim panels and metal trim accents arranged around the interior. Red accents on seats, shift lever and center of instrument panel are exclusive features for the WRX STI. The interior is solid black from roof to floor and of course is made via quality materials that are soft to the touch.

Subaru WRX STI – Isle of Man – “Flat Out: The Full Lap” [videos]

Subaru has published two nice video clips of the new lap record at the Isle of Man TT Road Course. The 2015 WRX STI managed to stop the clock at 19 minutes and 26 seconds. It was driven by the British rally champion Mark Higgins.

Higgins finished the 60.82 km (37.8 miles) course with an average speed of 187.44 km/h (116.47 mph). The slashed over 30 seconds from the previous record of 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds with a 2010 WRX STI. The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is powered by a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine – 305HP (227 kW) and 393Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and a symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

“It was quite a lap we did today and I am really happy to have another record in the bank. The chassis on this new car is so much better it really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course. I lost time on the second part of the track, overshooting my braking point at Sign Post corner. I actually hand-braked the turn in the end, so I feel we can definitely do better.”, said Higgins.
