  • Vauxhall Corsa VXR Leaks Ahead of Geneva Debut

Vauxhall Corsa VXR has just been revealed in pictures. The ultra-powerful small hot-hatch will be premiered officially at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. Vauxhall says that the car benefits from significant revisions in technology, new interior and exterior design improvements as well as new Corsa’s chassis. In addition, the vehicle shows literally breath-taking performance: it covers the 0-60mph sprint in only 6.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 143mph.

This result is due to the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, which produces 205 hp (150 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque from lower revs between 1,900rpm and 5,800rpm. An overboost facility provides an additional 35Nm of torque, ideal for swift and safe overtaking.

Despite these numbers, Corsa VXR is still capable of achieving 37.7mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 174g/km. The engine drives the front wheels via a second-generation six-speed transmission with a short, fluid gearchange.

The company has worked closely with Koni, a damper-supplier, in order to create the Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology.

FSD allows damping forces to adapt to the car’s movements, thus maintaining the body control when the car is driven fast.

Further improvements include a lowering in car’s height by 10 mm. In addition, Vauxhall is offering a two-stage switchable electronic stability programme (ESP) and traction control (TC) with the Corsa VXR. In Competition Mode the traction control is inactive, while the ESP is relaxed to allow less intervention. For track use, the ESP can be fully disabled.

Steering was made more direct and precise, while Michelin 215/45 R17 tyres and 308mm front brake discs take care for better stopping power. For Corsa VXR “die-hard-fans” keen to enhance their car’s dynamics still further, there is the optional Performance Package. It comprises of Drexler limited-slip differential, larger 330mm-diameter Brembo front brake discs, 18-inch alloy wheels and more focused FSD damper.

The standard model will come with bi-xenon lighting and a choice of six exterior colours. The new exterior design features more aggressive front-end design, large air intakes and an aluminium-framed opening below the headlights.

There is also a small scoop which finds itself below the bonnet. In addition, the side-sill extensions improve the performance of the car, while a rear spoiler provides downforce over the back axle. The twin Remus exhaust pipes distinguish the model from the regular Corsa.

Inside, the car features standard Recaro seats, leather, flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports pedals, as well as a VXR gear-lever and instruments. The front windscreen is heated and Intellilink connectivity for Apple iOS and Android smartphones also come at no cost.

  • Vauxhall Astra VXR Extreme at 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Vauxhall is going to exhibit the all-new 2014 Astra VXR Extreme at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, in March. The ultra-hot hatchback comes with extreme body kit and extreme engine.

The 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol has over 300HP (225 kW), which means that is the most powerful front-wheel drive Vauxhall, ever. Derived from last year’s Astra Cup race car that competed in the Nurburgring Endurance Championship, the Extreme model is the lighter, more powerful street-legal race sibling to the current Astra VXR. The engine is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox sending the power to the front wheels through an LSD (limited slip differential).

The curb weight is whopping 100kg less than the original model thanks to the use of high-quality carbon components.  This high-strength, ultra-light material is used for the aerodynamically-optimised rear wing, the diffuser, front spoiler, bonnet, suspension cross-bracing, engine cover, wheels, rear wheelhouse ventilation and roof.

Other highlights include a set of ultra high-performance, 245/35, 19” tyres, specially developed for the Extreme modell a Brembo 6-piston brake system including 370mm diameter discs up front and adjustable dampers.

The interior comes with a roll-bar, Recaro bucket seats, with six-point safety belts from Schroth and a carbon-fibre-reinforced, suede-covered steering wheel with fine yellow decorative stitching.

The car is actually planned to go in a low-volume production, which are great news.

  • Vauxhall Astra GTC Hitting 200 PS With Ecotec 1.6

Vauxhall-Astra-GTC-shadowVauxhall-Astra-GTC-mediumThe Vauxhall Astra GTC line will now be available with a 1.6 Ecotec power plant. This engine might just be the biggest cause of headaches at Volkswagen.

That’s right, the GTC now pulls off 200 PS and 300 Nm. Yikes! That’s 30 percent more power than the previous equivalent. If we translate that to 0-to-60-time, it means 7.3 seconds or the fastest non-VXR Astra. At the same time, the GTC returns 51 mpg and 154 g/km of CO2 emissions (13 percent less).

Just because its a new model anyway, they’ve decided to throw in an optional extra as well – an Intellilink infotainment system that’s supposed to be user-friendly and intuitive. It comprises of a satelite navigation, voice control, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a picture viewer some reason and Gracenote album art for some reason. All gets mediated to you through a 7-inch screen.

The new GTC hasn’t hit the streets yet, but it is available for ordering. Arrival should be around Spring this year. Your move, other companies that make really good hatchbacks and rival each other.Vauxhall-Astra-GTC-medium-2

  • Vauxhall 18-way adjustable ultimate hot seats

Vauxhall will introduce their most powerful Astra VXR at the Geneva Motor Show with front seats that are substantially lighter thanks to cutting-edge technology. The hot seats have a lower seating position and enhanced side support to cater for increased cornering loads.

The special technology includes an injection moulded sheet in the seat shells, which reduces their weight by 45% compared with a conventional shell. The sheet is filled with a composite material made from polyamide and fibreglass, and its strength and agility means that it only needs to be 2-3 mm deep, and therefore a lot lighter.

Bringing driver and front passenger lower to the Astra VXR’s centre of gravity, the new seats are mounted 17 mm lower than in the Astra GTC, and 40 mm lower than in the Astra Hatch. In addition, the new seats can be adjusted up to 18 ways, depending upon specification:

    •    Entire seat backwards and forwards (2)
    •    Entire seat upwards and downwards (2)
    •    Seat backrest forwards and backwards (2)
    •    Seat cushion angle adjustment (2)
    •    Seat cushion length adjustment (2)
    •    Four-way lumbar support adjustment (4)
    •    Adjustable side bolster support in back (2)
    •    Adjustable side bolster support in seat cushion (2)

Pneumatically adjustable cushions, found in the seats’ flanks, add further levels of adjustability at the push of a button, and provide ‘tailor-made’ seating comfort and security normally reserved for competition drivers.

The new 2012 Vauxhall Astra VXR will come with extremely powerful engine with 280PS and 400Nm. It will also feature LSD on front wheels and Brembo brake system.
