Apparently based on previous SUVs in the lineup, Tanoak resembles much of his predecessors in terms of styling and appearance. However, there are some feature that make it stand out from all previous Atlas machines. For example, the front face is a bit more rugged and showcases revised headlights and new kind of bumper. Additional changes include raised engine hood, rugged underbody protection and new carabiner.

    Interior styling

The cabin is spacious. And definitely adopts that sporty spirit. However, it is not uncomfortable or way too “Spartan-ish”. Instruments, central console and the multifunctional steering wheel are revised and do not have much in common with older Tanoak models. Most of the functions are now controlled digitally and thanks to the large touchscreen multimedia device everything is executed easily and without any complex actions or demanding combination of buttons and switches.

  • VW Reveals the Stunning Golf GTE Sport Concept

2015 Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport Concept Volkswagen of America, Inc. will demonstrate the Golf GTE Sport Concept at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. This special car really blurs the lines between road and motorsport vehicle, because of its incredible drivetrain system, body and interior features. In fact, this is one of the few, if not only one pure sports car that incorporates an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain. But this is not just an advanced hybrid unit. It provides a total of zero emissions. How cool is that? So, let’s check it out!

    The Powertrain

The 1.6-liter TSI unit is based on the two-time World Rally Championship winning Polo R WRC and brings a total of 292hp (214kW) and maximum torque of 295 pound-feet. It is a four-cylinder unit and it is assisted by not one, but two electric motors, one mounted in the front of the car and one in the rear. The front motor offers 113hp (83kW) with 243 lb-ft, while the rear has the same power, but delivers a bit lower torque, measured at 199 lb-ft.

    The Exterior

The design of the GTE Sport Concept brings a glimpse of the future. The vehicle demonstrates striking C-pillars with special two-level design. The C-pillar shape is not only contribution to the visuals of the car, but also enhance the aerodynamics.

The body of the vehicle is made of lightweight carbon-fiber. Furthermore, the Concept is painted in pearlescent “White Club” and offers two gullwing doors that swing forwards. Cool. There is also a three-dimensional side sill that is integrated in the door extends into the roof and is entirely made of dark exposed top with carbon-fiber elements. Other lightweight components are the door mirror caps, door window frames and the lower sill area.

At the front, there is a special blue crossbar that runs across the width of the vehicle and at the same time, three black chrome crossbars extend across the center air intaker under the blue strip. The other intake below the crossbars is framed at the top sides by carbon-fiber elements. At the rear, the double C-pillars give that wide and confident stance and the tailgate.

    The Interior

The cabin also is dominated by carbon-fiber and microfiber components and consists two completely separate areas for the driver and passenger. The interior also offers these sweet racing seats with five-point belts and steering column projects. On the dash, there are three transparent instrument displays and each one of them gives precious information about vehicle’s condition at every single moment. And in fact, this is the place where driver can switch through the drive modes. Yes, the vehicle offers different modes, each for different road condition and situations.

The E-Mode uses only the battery to deliver an emission-free drive up to 31 miles with a single charge. And when the minimum is reached, the 1.6 TSI unit is automatically engaged and the vehicle switches to Hybrid mode. The E-mode uses the rear electric motor and when the driver demands higher power, the front electric unit is automatically engaged.

When the driver activates the GTE switch, the character of the Concept is dramatically changed. The drivetrain system starts using the full potential of 395hp and in this mode is capable to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 4.3 seconds.

  • Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Concept Is Ready for the Road Challenges!

The first plug-in hybrid SUV by Volkswagen, the Tiguan GTE Concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA. This vehicle comes with a total of 228 hp (160 kW) and goes to up to 50 km in the special “E-Mode” which offers complete all-electric zero-emission smooth drive. This relatively long driving range benefits from the especially designed lithium-ion battery and its energy capacity of 13.0 kWh. In optimal driving conditions this installment can cover even 1,000 km of driving range. But this all depends on the regional solar radiation power.  And if you decide to use the combined way of driving, you should know that the vehicle consumes mere 1.9 liter per 100 km.

The latest VW concept vehicle benefits from a direct-injection turbocharged petrol unit along with the electric motor. This system is further paired to a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox, which was especially designed for this particular vehicle. The additional components include power electronics and charger. The Tiguan GTE can be also driven on Hybrid, Battery Charge and GTE modes. If mode is not selected by the driver, the vehicle automatically drives off in “E-Mode”. Furthermore, the Tiguan reaches a top speed of 130 km/h only with the electric motor.

And the system is precisely fine-tune to switch to Hybrid mode when the battery is exhausted or when there is high demand for power. This all means that the E-Mode is deactivated and the Concept now behaves like a classic full hybrid car.

The driver can press the GTE button to switch to GTE mode which activates the flexible side of the vehicle. This mode is now exclusive feature for all VW vehicles with plug-in hybrid drive system. With the mode engaged, the characteristics of the pedals, gearbox and steering system are noticeably changed to bring more dynamics and flexibility. In addition, the GTE mode, the TSI unit and the electric motor work together in a way, known as “boosting” which makes the full system power and maximum torque available. In this way the Concept has a top speed of 200 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.1 seconds.

  • Volkswagen Cross Coupe Concept

Volkswagen will announce the Cross Coupe Concept at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. The all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid vehicle is a mixture between a four-door coupe and a SUV. It also defines a new stage in VW engineering design, being the first model based on the company’s new modular transverse matrix – or MQB – to be shown publicly.

The dimensions are 4 345 mm in length, 1 868 mm width, 1 523 mm height and 2 630 mm wheelbase. The overhangs – 855 mm at the front and 860 mm at the back are correspondingly short.  This gives the car a very compact but dynamic appearance, which is emphasised by wide tracks widths.

The four-seat Cross Coupe is powered by two electric motors – one front and one rear. The smaller, which is on the front wheels generates 54PS (40 kW) and 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) of torque and the bigger, which is placed at the rear axle develops 116PS (85 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft). The Cross Coupe also has a TSI direct injection turbo petrol engine. The overall power is 265 PS (195 kW). From 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. It can travel up to 40 km on pure electric power.

The AWD system with electric drive shaft also represents an innovation for Volkswagen, with the rear axle being driven by the rear electric motor.  In this situation power is supplied to the rear electric motor by the one at the front, which during this phase acts as a generator powered by the TSI engine.  This means that in the Cross Coupe, the flow of electrical energy thus replaces the conventional transfer of power by means of a drive shaft – which creates room in the central tunnel (which would usually house the drive shaft) to hold the lithium ion battery.  The resulting low position of the battery and layout of the drive systems give the vehicle a very low centre of gravity and a balanced spread of axle loading, endowing the car with dynamic coupe-like handling qualities.
