  • 2018 up! GTI: beast in cute packaging. We like it!

2018 Volkswagen up! GTIFinally, one of the most anticipated Volkswagen models, the up! GTI is available for order! The new 2018 vehicle builds up on the strengths of its predecessors and as we are about to find out, learns from past mistakes. The latest lineup of GTI lineage machines that includes up!, Polo and the award-winning Golf GTI remains one of the most popular in this vehicle segment and there is a fine reason for that. So, let’s jump right in the action and tell you more about this cute beast!

First of all, the 2018 up! GTI is available in three- and five-door body styles. Second, it looks a lot like previous models. In a good way. The vehicle has maintained its well-known and widely recognizable VW signature visual features, but also showcases a character of its own: the body language is characterized with direct lines, minimal amount of curves and overall simplistic design concept. It does resemble the Golf GTI spirit for some reason. Maybe because of the confident front face and the overall small, yet sexy body.

    2018 Volkswagen up! GTI

However, the exterior styling is nothing for all those who would like to drive the machine and enjoy the coziness of the cabin. And we do believe that “cozy” is just the right word for this interior concept. There isn’t anything that would make you say “wow” and there isn’t a single feature that would make you believe that designers and engineers have tried too hard. They haven’t. The cabin is straightforward with everything being placed on the right place. The only thing that is somehow fancy is the red color panels, small details and stitching. As always, the red color makes everything loos sporty.

And now let’s focus on the most important thing: drivetrain system. The 2018 up! GTI is powered by the most agile petrol engine: the three-cylinder turbocharged 1.0-liter TSI wonder. It offers 115 horsepower and up to 200Nm of torque between 2,000-3,500rpm. This power is sent to the front wheels and it is tamed with a six-speed manual transmission. Further mechanical goodies include a lightweight body construction that results on a total of 1,071kg of total weight, a fine-tuned sporty suspension, and some neat engineering tweaks that would make this fancy vehicle into an agile and menacing little imp.

  • Honda Jazz Type R, Ford Ka ST, Volkswagen up! GTi and the BMW M i3 are the craziest vehicles you’ll see this weekend!

Volkswagen up! GTi front viewImagine that you could drive a Honda Jazz, but with a Type R specification and look; or a BMW i3, but beautified and powered by the M Division. It might sound crazy, but the world we live in makes every imagination a reality. Especially in the virtual reality. We have received these crazy renderings, which show four seriously unlikely hot hatches. And although you might not be into this kind of endeavor, I promise it is worth the view! The images depict four of the most famous hatches out there, done with the thought that under their hood sleeps a powerful engine. The list includes Honda Jazz Type R, Ford Ka ST, Volkswagen up! GTi and the BMW M i3

SEE ALSO: Honda Adds New Sport Variant to the Civic Lineup

    Volkswagen Up! GTi

Starting with the Volkswagen up! GTi, this is probably one of the most unthinkable projects to have a production variant. The design shown in the render was inspired by the historical Golf GTi. The designer has envisioned the up! GTi powered by the engine that drives the turbocharged VW Mk7 Golf GTi capable of 217 horsepower. A true rocket!

    Honda Jazz Type R

Honda Jazz Type R front viewAs a huge fan of Honda and specifically of Type R, I find this project very cute and at the same time crazy to grasp as a reality. “Small but fast” was the obvious idea behind this render. Envisioned with the legendary VTEC engine under the hood, along with a huge aero kit, this Jazz is ready to blow away any speed-addict within the blink of the eye.

    Ford Ka ST

Ford Ka ST side viewThe Ford Ka ST is not only small, but very good looking, and in fact looks a lot like a Ford Focus ST on this image. It is probably the best picture among four, which would make the perfect production vehicle. Its advantages are that it is small in size, low in weight and filled with lots of power from its turbo engine! In other words it is everything that is worth adding the “ST” letters behind the name.

    BMW M i3

BMW M i3 front viewAt last but not least comes the BMW M i3, which is no longer electric, but a proud hybrid. This picture shows how the hot-rodded performance variant of everybody’s favorite Teutonic battery-powered city car would look like. And since it wears the famous M badge, you can expect performance miracles. In addition, the BMW on the render is fitted with rough bodykit, sports suspension and buckets. So, which one do you like the best? And would you like to see such production variant in the future?

  • 2012 Volkswagen up! 4-door

2012-Volkswagen-up!-4-door-THUMBOne of the most important automotive highlights of the last year was the introduction of the two-door Volkswagen up! Now, Volkswagen is a four-door version to the model range, which will be at dealership in Europe by early summer. The four-door doesn’t differ much from the two-door version- it has the same engines (44 kW/60 PS and 55 kW/75 PS), equipment versions (take up!, move up!, high up!, black up!, white up!) and dimensions (3,540 mm long, 1,641 mm wide without mirrors, 1,478 mm high).

Of course, the four doors have influenced and changed the appearance of the up! As the lower window line of the two-door rises towards the rear near the C-pillars, it forms a straight line on the four-door car. Other distinctive features are the crisp and short body overhangs. Nevertheless, the front and rear sections are identical on both body versions: the bootlid’s outer skin consists of a continuous glass surface. Beneath the bootlid, there is a boot with a volume of 251 litres; cargo capacity can be extended to up to 951 litres by folding down the rear backrest (60:40 split bench from the move up!).

    2012 Volkswagen up! 4-door
    2012 Volkswagen up! 4-door

The four-door model offers the same spacious interior as the two-door: headroom in the rear is 947 mm, and in the front is 993 mm. Legroom in the second row is a comfortable 789 mm. The seat height on the rear is 378 mm in the rear, which is higher than in front (306 mm). This allows the rear passengers to have a better view over the shoulders of the driver and front passenger. Furthermore, the car includes clever systems such as City Emergency Braking, which is automatically brake function working in a tight situation. The function is active over a speed range from 5 to 30 km/h. In addition, as an option there is also available a portable navigation and infotainment system with touchscreen, which offers navigation system, hands-free telephone unit, display of various vehicle parameters and media player. A highlight here as well is the enormous panoramic tilt/slide sunroof that Volkswagen decided to include in the up!

The standard version of the 2012 Volkswagen up! Is equipped with 14-inch wheels, body-colored bumpers and green tinted heat-insulating glass. The body of the car is partially galvanized. The interior includes details such as the folding rear bench seat, color contrasting air vent surrounds, carpeted floors and a fabric-lined bootspace cover. Furthermore, there are also featured rear windscreen wiper, electromechanical power assisted steering, height-adjustable steering column, convenience direction indicators and daytime running lights. The gloss black panel in the middle of the dashboard shows the sophistication of the interior design. And when it comes to passive and active safety, standard features include front airbags and head-thorax side airbags, seatbelt fastening reminder, belt tensioners in front, ABS with ASR, ESP electronic stabilization program, ISOFIX fixtures, top-tether fittings for mounting suitable child seats in the rear, deactivation function for the front passenger airbag.

Of course, there is no second thought on the great fuel economy that this car delivers. In fact, bith fuel economy and driving performance values are the same for both up! body versions. This means that they both use three-cylinder petrol engines with 44 kW/60 PS or 55 kW/75 PS. In addition both engines fulfill the Euro 5 emissions standard and drive the front wheels. In particular, the combined fuel consumption is 4.1 l/100 km (60 PS) and 4.2 l/100 km (75 PS), respectively. However, what is new here is the 5-speed automatic gearbox, mated to these two petrol engines. Nonetheless, both engines will be still offered with 5-speed manual gearbox.

  • 2012 Italdesign Giugiaro up! azzurra sailing team

2012-Italdesign-Giugiaro-up!-azzurra-sailing-team-THUMB2012 Italdesign Giugiaro up! azzurra sailing team is a newborn vehicle at Volkswagen, conceived and designed by two exceptionl names in the international car design world: Giorgetto Giugiaro  and Walter de Silva. 2012 Italdesign Giugiaro up! azzurra sailing team carries a Mediterranean soul, because both designers grew up in this environment. And as you can see the design is all about the feeling, which leaves one with the “sunshine in the hair”.

The prototype is an open, small, eco-friendly vehicle, which is perfectly suitable for who live near the coast where the sea breezes blow. The concept’s name comes from yacht club on the Costa Smeralda.

Furthermore, the vehicle retains the original character of the up! with its precise and appealing lines. However, what is specifically developed for this concept is that is completely open and even more: there are no doors or roof. Of course, this lets the driver and passengers enjoy the summer breezes, and leave the feeling as if they were aboard a boat.

  • Volkswagen Up! BlueMotion

VW-Up-2012-thumbOne of Volkswagen‘s most practical and fuel-sipping cars is now available with the best possible efficiency setup. Introducing the Up! BlueMotion with two engine variants. However, to prevent the scales from tipping over too much to the “blue” side of things, the company has also introduced two exciting new options – A panoramic sliding sunroof and a thing called the “leatherette pack”

First stop, the engines. We have two 1.0 liter engines that develop 60 bhp and 75 bhp respectively. They already sound frugal enough but now with the introduction of the BlueMotion package it is claimed that they both have a combined fuel consumption of 4,1 l/100 km and 4,2 l/100km. Really? A tenth of a liter more overall consumption for the prize of 15 horsepowers? Who is going to buy the less-powerful version? It’s the same story with the CO2 emissions – 96 g (60 PS) and 98 g (75 PS).

The BlueMotion technology manifests itself through the presence of a Stop/Start function, a battery regeneration system and also, both of the cars are more slippery by being 15 mm lower than usual. It’s not rocket science, I’ll have to admit. But the combination of all these tweaks gives an astonishing end result. And the price for this whole BluePackage is only 400 euros ($537).

The panoramic sliding sunroof on the other side, with its electric adjust ability and overall flexibility allows some fresh air to come in and clear your head from all those economy figures. It is a playful, ambiance inducing feature that costs an additional sum of 880 euros ($1183). In the mean time, the leatherette package provides a leather steering wheel, hand brake lever and gear shift grip also in leather and heated front seats in leather look with white decorative stitching – 760 euros ($1022) if one has the move up! trim line or above.
