The petrol unit develops a power of 156 hp (115 kW), while the electric motor produces 85 kW. In “GTE” model the Passat delivers a maximum system output of 218 hp (160 kW). The maximum torque of the entire system is 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

The powerplant is equipped with a front-wheel drive and a six-gear dual clutch gearbox.Tthe German police can accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 8.0 seconds on its way to a top speed is 136 mph.

The average fuel consumption of the car is only 2.0 l/100 km (141 mpg). This responds to CO2 emissions of less than 45 g/km. The combination of gasoline engine and electric drive gives the Passat at least theoretically, a range of up to 1,000 kilometers.

2015-Volkswagen-Passat-Sketches-THUMB2015 Volkswagen Passat has been revealed in several drawings. The company has also disclosed the first technical details of the new Saloon and Estate trims. The car will have its official debut July, while in front of public it will be premiered at Paris Motor Show in October. This is the eighth-generation Passat. For 41 years the car model been sold in over 23 million examples worldwide. From the brand are promising that it will bring a range of new technologies and features.

The exterior dimensions are marginally smaller than those of the previous Passat. However, the interior space is improved, with more leg- and head-room and increased luggage space.

One of the main highlights of the new model is the high-performance, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel engine. • Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept To Be Shown At NAIAS

Volkswagen-Passat-Blue-Motion-Concept-THUMBVolkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept is one of brand’s vehicles which are going to be presented at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In fact, with this car Volkswagen aims to show just how fuel-efficient a non-hybrid, gasoline-engined mid-size sedan can be.

The vehicle is based on the current Passat which was developed specifically for North America. The BlueMotion label signifies that this version has the best efficiency in the model lineup. The efficient fuel consumption can be attributed to Volkswagen’s 1.4-liter EA211 TSI engine with direct injection and turbocharging. The unit delivers 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

What is more, this Passat also offers Active Cylinder Management (ACT) technology, which deactivates the valvetrain on cylinders two and three. This happens in situations when the driver only applies light throttle pressure to maintain specific city speeds.

Another fuel-saving option included in this car is the DSG transmission. As soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal, it decouples the engine. This allows the Passat to roll with the lowest possible mechanical drag from the other moving components.

Other technology which contributes for the maximum efficiency here is the stop/start system, which shuts off the engine when the car comes to a temporary stop. All in all, these technologies deliver manufacturer estimated highway fuel economy rating of 42 mpg.

At last, it is worth mentioning the striking new color, which Volkswagen has specifically developed for this model – the Reef Blue Metallic color. The latter will be also available on other Passat models on a later time.

In the interior, there are featured two-tone seats that carry blue dividing lines between the darker and lighter leather seating surfaces. The stitching shows that this car is a member of the BlueMotion family.

  • VW Super Bowl “The Dog Strikes Back” Spot

VW-Super-Bowl-spot-thumbVolkswagen of America Inc. have revealed their third consecutive ad campaign project for the Super Bowl. On their YouTube channel we can watch a 0:75 extended commercial that is due to air on Game Day in a 0:60 second form.

“This is a perfect opportunity for Volkswagen to celebrate with the fans that have made 2011 such a record-setting year for the company,” said Tim Mahoney, Chief Product and Marketing Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This year’s commercial will build on Volkswagen’s ability to tell human stories simply while continuing to build on the brand’s momentum in the year ahead.”

All formalities aside, VW seem reluctant to drop the Star Wars theme despite the fact that the one now, seemingly has nothing to do with drones and Darth Vader. If you remember last year’s commercial, “The Force” spot, features a young Darth Vader who seems determined to make something work with “the Force”. Needless to say that with a little help of the father in the house, the youngster manages to fire up a VW Passat. The commercial went on to become a viral hit with almost 7 million views on YouTube.

This year, VW released a teaser with an ensemble of dogs that bark out the “Imperial March” and now we have a fully revealed commercial. It features an obese dog which for some reason is unable to get out of the house (supposedly opening the door is not an option). After realizing that there is a good chance of having the opportunity to run along a VW Beetle just for the fun of it, the dog goes on a strict diet and engages in an intense workout. Then there is the Star Wars intermission – the commercial is being watched in the iconic Cantina introduced in Star Wars Episode IV where a rather grown up Darth Vader makes a cameo. We also have that loopy tune from the alien jazz band stuck in our head now.
