  • Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Receives Various Updates

Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Front ViewVolkswagen Passat BlueMotion and Volkswagen Passat Estate BlueMotion have received a wide range of updates, which will enhance their appeal. The multi-award-winning vehicles will not only count on looks, but will also perform exceptionally efficient for its future owners. Precisely, both models return 76.3 mpg and emit only 95 g/km of carbon dioxide.

    Engine

These numbers of efficiency and emissions are possible due to the new updated version of the Passat’s entry-level 1.6-litre TDI engine. The modifications include SCR and BlueMotion. The unit produces 120 horsepower (88 kW) at 3,600 rpm and has a torque of 250 Nm (185 lb-ft) developed at 1,750 rpm.

The acceleration time for the Passat BlueMotion from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) is estimated at 10.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited at 130 mph, which is slightly greater than the standard 1.6-litre engine. This of course means no compromises in terms of BlueMotion’s performance.

Volkswagen Passat Estate BlueMotion runs the 0-62 mph sprint in 11 seconds and its top speed is 129 mph. Both variants of the car will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox only.

    Special Features

    Volkswagen Passat Interior

BlueMotion Passat is based on the entry-level S model. It features Post-Collision Braking System, mis-fuelling prevention and Driver Alert. Inside, there has been also fitted Volkswagen’s 6.5-inch ‘Composition Media’ infotainment system. As a standard, both models are getting Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems.

    Exterior

These Volkswagen Passats are also adding 17-inch ‘Soho’ alloys fitted with super-optimized low rolling resistance tires. They are supported by a sports suspension that offers 15 mm lowering. The exterior looks of the car are enhanced by one-off BlueMotion front and rear bumpers, as well as unique BlueMotion badging and chrome grille highlights.

    Pricing

Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion models have a starting price of £23,200. They are currently available to order and first deliveries are expected in August.

  • You Can Now Order the Latest VW Passat BlueMotion

If you happen to live in Europe and are Volkswagen fan, this means that this news is for you. The newest Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion can be immediately ordered. Maybe you are now asking why you should do that. Well, first and foremost, this is the most economically-viable and environmentally-friendly car in this VW series. Just take into consideration its fuel consumption which is as low as of 3.7 l  per 100 km, while the CO2 emissions have been measured at 95 g/km.

The second thing is that the company will offer the car in two variants: sedan and a wagon, so you can chose depending on your needs. And the third reason is that both variants will be driven by the extremely efficient 1.6 l TDI engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission. The unit produces an output of 120 hp (88 kW) and a maximum torque of 250 Nm (185 lb-ft).

Other technical highlights that demand attention are the technology features and aerodynamic improvements. As a standard, the BlueMotion Passat will ride on 16-inch “Copenhagen” alloy wheels and will boast an aerodynamically enhanced radiator grille and shutter grille.

There are also other aero tweaks, which can be found throughout the exterior. The interior hasn’t been changed and probably this is why Volkswagen didn’t say a word about it.

VW Passat BlueMotion Sedan will have a starting price of 29,425 euros, while the wagon variant has a price tag of 30,500 euros.

  • Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept To Be Shown At NAIAS

Volkswagen-Passat-Blue-Motion-Concept-THUMBVolkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept is one of brand’s vehicles which are going to be presented at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In fact, with this car Volkswagen aims to show just how fuel-efficient a non-hybrid, gasoline-engined mid-size sedan can be.

The vehicle is based on the current Passat which was developed specifically for North America. The BlueMotion label signifies that this version has the best efficiency in the model lineup. The efficient fuel consumption can be attributed to Volkswagen’s 1.4-liter EA211 TSI engine with direct injection and turbocharging. The unit delivers 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

What is more, this Passat also offers Active Cylinder Management (ACT) technology, which deactivates the valvetrain on cylinders two and three. This happens in situations when the driver only applies light throttle pressure to maintain specific city speeds.

Another fuel-saving option included in this car is the DSG transmission. As soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal, it decouples the engine. This allows the Passat to roll with the lowest possible mechanical drag from the other moving components.

Other technology which contributes for the maximum efficiency here is the stop/start system, which shuts off the engine when the car comes to a temporary stop. All in all, these technologies deliver manufacturer estimated highway fuel economy rating of 42 mpg.

At last, it is worth mentioning the striking new color, which Volkswagen has specifically developed for this model – the Reef Blue Metallic color. The latter will be also available on other Passat models on a later time.

In the interior, there are featured two-tone seats that carry blue dividing lines between the darker and lighter leather seating surfaces. The stitching shows that this car is a member of the BlueMotion family.

  • VW reveals BLUEMOTION range at Frankfurt Motor Show

Production versions of three new highly-efficient additions to the BlueMotion range have been unveiled ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show. All engines from this range are common rail diesel powered with incredible low fuel consumption and emissions under 115g/km of CO2.

The new Polo, Golf and Passat BlueMotion models emit just 87 g/km, 99 g/km and 114 g/km of CO2 respectively while every variant is also capable of travelling a minimum of 840 miles on a single tank of fuel.

Each model bears the results of aerodynamic changes with new front bumper, sill extensions, a lower ride height and relocated air ducts behind the grille elements.  The result is less aerodyanamic drag leading to less loading on the engine and greater economy. (more…)
