Vauxhall Mokka X Front ViewVauxhall announced yesterday that it is going to unveil its GT Concept in Geneva. As we all know it will portray a vision for a future sports car. However, there will be also two other premieres at the event. The first one is for Mokka X and the other is for the Astra range (including the new Sports Tourer). At the show will be also presented several five-door hatchback models and a new BiTurbo engine.

The Mokka X: A different Kind of SUV

Just mentioning that the GT Concept is going to make its official premiere, we go directly to the other two vehicles. First, the Mokka X was already revealed in the beginning of the month. It will be available in dealerships late this year and in Geneva it will showcase refreshed interior and exterior design as well as a new powertrain and featuring OnStar and Apple CarPlay.

Mokka X has many advantages like its compact size (4.28m long), sporty looks and elevated seating position. Model’s bold look is due to the application of the wing-shaped horizontal front grille and the double-wing signature of the LED daytime running lights. At the rear we see that there is another double wing signature highlighted in the tail lamps (LEDs are option here). Exterior paint colors like the ‘Amber Orange’ and ‘Lava Red’ are also available. The interior of the SUV is defined by a dashboard inspired by the new Astra.

Mokka range is powered by the 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ engine, and the new gen 1.4-litre Direct Injection Turbo (152PS) petrol unit mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The unit also features adaptive all-wheel drive and start/stop function thanks to which the SUV achieves 42.8mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 154g/km.

The newest Astra Sports Tourer will also be on display at Geneva Motor Show. In addition, the model will also go on sale in March. The Sports Tourer is based on new lightweight vehicle architecture and has brand new design, powertrains and technology.

Speaking of range’s highlights, they include 1.0-litre three-cylinder Turbo Start/Stop ecoFLEX, and a diesel offering including the 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ (110PS) Start/Stop ecoFLEX model.

In addition, the five-door hatch range will be also on display at the show. It is powered by a new 1.6-litre BiTurbo CDTi turbocharged diesel engine that features start/stop and six-speed manual transmission, and achieves 67.3mpg combined and 112g/km. Performance is not compromised with a top speed of 137mph and 0-60mph acceleration in 8.4 seconds.

  • 2016 Vauxhall GT Concept’s Interior Showcased Before Global Debut

2016 Vauxhall GT ConceptVauxhall revealed GT Concept’s interior with the idea to showcase the innovative technologies and futuristic design of the cabin. And ahead of vehicle’s global debut at 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the team made a glimpse of what is to be the Human Machine Interface. This is a special system that allows sports cars to be completely operated by voice only and a central touch pad. Sounds cool, but is it really practical?

The self-learning system can also recognize driver’s habits and movements and adapts according his or her needs. This results on a special “dialogue” between man and machine that can not only drive you home, but also can choose the right music, route and even temperature, according to what the machine’s impressions are.

And in case the driver does not want to use the voice command, he or she can just reach the touch pad in front of her and start a sort of “manual” driving.

And for the drivers who would use the GT Concept for business, there are a special instrument facilities that are dedicated to that idea: the intuitive graphic displays consumption, when the driver is under time pressure and if there is a tricky situation that requires additional skills, the HMI optimizes the accelerator, transmission and engine control in such way that the right instrument displays the g-force values of the longitudinal acceleration.

The entire instrument panel is made of brushed aluminum, while the round camera monitors are embedded in the outer aluminum air jets with polished GT emblem, while the shining red seatbelt reactors resemble the distinctive design of the red front tires. Sweet.

  • 2016 Vauxhall GT Concept to Make Debut at the Geneva Motor Show

2016 Vauxhall GT Concept Vauxhall and Opel will reveal their vision of the future sports car with the GT Concept at this year’s Geneva International Motorshow (March 3-13).

Avant-garde and confident the latest GT Concept car shows a dramatic stance, unmistakable presence and elegant, yet aggressive lines. In fact, this sweetie is especially designed to pay homage to two notable vehicle: the 1964 Vauxhall XVR and the 1965 Opel Experimental GT. As you might know, these two machines are known for their innovative design and engineering solutions and now the 2016 GT Concept will try to keep up with the resigned beasts just to show that the new generation is not that bad at all.

2016 GT Concept and its main features

One of the key features of the Concept is the addition of large doors with integrated side windows. Both the driver and the passengers have access to a spacious interior and latest generation of gadgets. The whole space-saving concept of the interior looks like it is especially created for this particular car, while the panoramic roof enhances the feel comfort and coziness. Furthermore, the passionately-built Concept proudly demonstrates a red signature line that splits the body horizontally and stunning red tires that embrace the “roller-skate” rims.

And there is one more super-cool feature. The integrated headlamps and indicator units benefit from an ultra-modern technology that ensures the lights have that three-dimensional beam which allows a glare-free high-beam driving. How cool is that?

Another unique feature of the GT Concept is its integrated headlamp/indicator units. Using ultra-modern projection technology, the lights have a three-dimensional beam which allows glare-free high-beam driving. Based on Vauxhall/Opel’s award-winning IntelliLux LED matrix lighting, first seen in the recently launched Astra, the GT Concept sees the intelligent lighting system’s next stage of development. The design of the lights is completed by the three-dimensional design of the tail lamps.

    And the Drivetrain system?

In terms of engineering, Opel and Vauxhall teams know how it’s done. Beneath the bonnet one will find a mighty 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged power unit, completely made of aluminum that offers a total of 145hp (106kW) power output and 205Nm of torque. The six-speed sequential gearbox delivers drive to the rear wheels and along with the lightweight (the Concept weights just 1000kg) the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in less than 8 seconds and chases a top speed of 241km/h (143mph).

  • Opel to Introduce Brand New GT Concept in Geneva [w/videos]

Opel GT Concept Teaser Image Opel is going to introduce at the Geneva Motor Show a brand new car, called GT Concept. It has just released a second teaser video showing a glimpse of the future car. If you have missed the first one we have featured both videos below. What we can see from the last one is more of car’s design.

In the clip, the CEO of Vauxhall and Opel, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, opens a door to display the front of the purebred GT Concept. He also says ‘Don’t miss what happens next.’ In addition, the company also released the first teaser image of the GT Concept, which displays its central double exhaust.

As a matter of fact, this feature is was a highlight of ground-breaking concept cars from both Vauxhall and sister brand Opel in the mid-1960s, and comes to show the link between now and then. Vauxhall introduced the XVR at the Geneva Show in 1966, while Opel – the Experimental GT at Frankfurt the year before. So, are we to witness similarities in design?

One thing we are sure of is that the GT Concept won’t be in any way old-fashioned or retro. However, the cars will share the same design philosophy which stands for ‘ultra-modern, minimalistic and uncompromising with a sculptural shape ’.

As for red tire of the Opel GT Concept we have seen in the previous video (the second one below), it pays homage in an avant-garde way to the MotoClub 500, a futuristic Opel motorcycle from 1928 that wore red rubber. This new concept undoubtedly promises an innovative approach to the well-known Opel design.

The world premiere of the OpelGT Concept will happen at the Geneva International Motor Show from March 3rd until March 13th.
