  • Vauxhall Corsa Achieves 85.6 MPG Efficiency Result

2012-Vauxhall-Corsa-THUMB2012 Vauxhall Corsa is more economical than ever achieving 85.6mpg while emitting just 88g/km. The environmentally friendly car is equipped with 95 hp (70 kW) 1.3CDTI ecoFLEX Start/Stop engine which contributes to the numbers delivered.

Furthermore, some additional improvements have been made in order to minimize the consumption and emissions. For instance, the turbodiesel is equipped with a variable displacement oil pump which delivers only the necessary oil pressure.

In fact, it changes the oil volume having “in mind” the load so that it can reduce energy needed for oil circulation. The use of special low-viscosity transmission oil also contributes to efficient fuel consumption.

Next to be mentioned is the engineered manual transmissions with a more precise and smooth gear change action. The modifications result in high shift comfort and optimized operation in cold and warm conditions. In addition, what also takes part in the great efficiency are the new 185/65 R15 low-rolling-resistance tyres.

Performance however is not a compromise here, given the achieved results. The maximum torque of this Vauxhall model is of 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) is available between 1,750 and 3,250rpm. The powerful 95 hp (70 kW) turbodiesel gives the Corsa the acceleration time of 12.3 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.

  • Vauxhall Corsa Turns to the Dark Side

Vauxhall-Corsa-Black-Edition-thumbIt’s a Corsa Black. Don’t worry, AMG are still doing what they should be doing (Mercs). This one here is just a special ‘Black Edition‘ from Vauxhall. It’s not just stitches on the steering wheel and fresh new cup holders on it however. No, the Vauxhall Corsa Black Edition introduces a whole new engine to the range.

It’s a 1.4 liter turbo engine that develops 120 PS and 175 Nm which start at 1,750 rpm. To our ears, which are used to hearing blistering performance figures, a Vmax of 121 mph and an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 9.7 seconds sounds like ages. But let’s be real about it and say that this is pretty swift. It should be fun to drive as well despite the lack of suspension tweaking. It might be fun at the gas station also. Because it has a Start/Stop system and is turbocharged, the Corsa Black retains a stunning fuel economy of 51.4 mpg.

On the outside some of the Black Edition features include color oriented bumpers, side skirts and a black rear spoiler. For some extra aggression, the front and back lights are also dark styled and the rear side windows are tinted in black. You get fog lights as well. Finally there’s a “Black” logo somewhere along the lines and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Inside you do get a leather steering wheel but also some leather sports seats, sports pedals, silver stitching and matt chrome air vent surrounds. You can opt for some clever tech if you wish. Think in terms of Vauxhall‘s Touch and Connect infotainment system, climate control and adaptive forward lightning. There will be only 500 examples of it (3-door and 5-door versions) so in a way, it will be pretty exclusive. Did we mention that the body color is black?

  • Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition

Vauxhall has announced the most powerful Corsa ever. The VXR Nurburgring Edition will hit the market in the end of May.

Corsa VXR Nurburgring will be powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine with 205PS at 5750RPM and 280Nm of torque. The results are thanks to a modified engine management and turbocharger system, sports exhaust with reduced back pressure. The special edition Corsa will run on 98-octane fuel.

Furthermore, the small hot hatch comes with a mechanical LSD (limited slip differential) for maximum traction at all times. It will also reduce the understeer caused by excessive throttle loads during cornering, or changes in the texture of the road surface.

The suspension is also revised. This time it comes from Bilstein, who has developed bespoke spring and damper units for the new model. The vehicle is also lowered with 20mm at the front and 15mm at the rear.

The braking system comes from Brembo and it is 30 per cent lighter than before and has a 10 per cent larger area. In addition, the Corsa VXR features recalibrated ABS, TC (Traction Control) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control).

The performance is superb – 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph).

The exterior received several upgrades like stainless steel dual exhaust, newly designed forged aluminium wheels in high-gloss grey, and „Nurburgring” logos on the B-Pillars and front spoiler lip. There are also two new colours available – apple green „Grasshopper” and red „Henna”.

The interior boasts black and red „Nürburgring” lettering adorns the sill plates and front Recaro seat backs, with bespoke white stitching on all seats, as well as the handbrake and gearshift console.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring is priced at £22 295.
