  • 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe: fine style and unneeded changes

2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Aston Martin announces a limited lineup of the Vanquish Zagato Coupe. As the name suggests, the premium automobile brand keeps in touch with its Italian design-house Zagato and together they bring something special. Or, at least, they try to make it special.

We know that Aston Martin delivers only high-end vehicles, but we also know that everything should have a limit: even the trial to make something look even better than it should be. But let’s check out the vehicle first, shall we?

Vanquish Zagato Concept was first revealed at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy back in May, 2016. And since this glorious moment, the customer interest has greatly risen up and Aston Martin team decided to deliver more of these. To be precise, there will be 99 Zagato Coupes built at the production facility in Gaydon, England.

As you might know, this is the fifth model to emerge from the collaboration: Aston Martin Zagato Coupe will join the 1960 DB GT Zagato Racing, 1886 V8 Vantage Zagato, 2002 DB7 Vantage Zagato and the 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato. Cool.

So, what does the Zagato Coupe offer?

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Vanquish Zagato comes with Aston Martin’s powerful 6.0-liter V12 unit that has undergone some slight refinements and now offers a total of 600hp (447kW) or, in other words, this beauty accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in mere 3.5 seconds.

Also, in terms of drivetrain system, the special vehicle comes with exclusively fine-tuned suspension that delivers a sort of GT driving experience. Not bad. But the question remains: is this titanic power needed, as we are talking about a street-legal machine?!

    Design

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Let’s be honest here: the vehicle is beautiful. Overall. I don’t like the styling at the back, but generally the Vanquish Zagato gives off a sense of power, passion and precision.

SEE ALSO: Aston Martin meets summer with some fresh offerings. Check them out!

Detail highlights include numerous carbon-fiber components, redesigned rear lights with the same bladed LED technology, used for the Vulcan. Furthermore, Zagato’s rear somehow resembles DB11’s, but is uglier. The whole rear design contributes to better aerodynamics, but I find it ugly. Also, the sporty-looking rear is completed with a retractable spoiler and a rear hatch for easy access to the luggage compartment. But it remains ugly.

    Interior design

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

Vanquish Zagato welcomes all the drivers to a neatly created interior ambience. The well-known Aston Martin quality is present, along with some changes done by Zagato designers. The carbon-fiber elements are paired with sweet bronze details and along with the fine leather create a rather cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Of course, there is neat Zagato Z stitch pattern on the door section and on the seat that further enhances the feel of exclusivity.

    2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato

So far, so good. Remaining true to its Aston Martin roots, the new Vanquish Zagato also benefits from the fine Italian style and brings high doses of pleasure and excitement. Definitely a worthy family member, the new Vanquish Zagato vehicle stands comfortably along the whole Aston Martin Zagato lineup.

  • Top 5 facts you don’t know about Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept front view Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept has debuted this weekend at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, held at Lake Como. So you have probably heard the big talk around it. However, this car is so uniquely beautiful and one-of-a-kind, that there are probably some facts you have missed during the clamor. Here are our top five facts you don’t know about the new concept.

    Five is Emblematic Number

I’m not being superstitious, but the number five is definitely a meaningful number about the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept. The first and more obvious reason about it is that it is the fifth car born after the collaboration between the British experts at Aston Martin and the Italian design-house Zagato.

On second place, the long-standing partnership between the two companies have lasted (well not 5) over five decades, delivering successful designs and unforgettable emotions to the fans.

The Key in the Design is the Avant-Garde Expression Based on Tradition

Just take a look at the pictures in the gallery below. We must admit that the car looks breath-taking. Its secret is the combination of the acclaimed sporting and dynamic design made by AM, and the material qualities with Zagato’s signature design language.

SEE ALSO: Aston Martin Releases Special Vantage S Blades Edition

All five Zagatos have been inspired by tradition: from the emblematic DB4 GT Zagato of 1960 through to the V12 Vantage Zagato of 2011. Each and every one of them has accentuated key aspects of Aston Martin’s design journey and Zagato’s own race-inspired design language. The goal of both companies was always to deliver the most avant-garde expression. And they definitely did.

The Team Behind the Latest Concept

The latest Vanquish Zagato Concept was actually created by Aston Martin Design team led by Marek Reichman and Andrea Zagato and his design team in Milan. However, the development and engineering happened at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, England.

The Proper Use of Carbon Fiber & New Technology

Most companies rely on slight use of carbon fiber. Despite this, the concept’s bodywork has been entirely made of the lightweight material, with the split lines on the body reduced by the use of large one-piece panels. In addition, the quad-exhaust nestles have been also made by carbon fibre.

Other great design features include round tail light reflectors that evoke the classic rear view of a Zagato, incorporating the same ‘bladed’ LED technology as the Aston Martin Vulcan; the glasshouse wrap around the bodywork; and the ‘double-bubble’ roof. The good and aggressive look of the car has been matched by the uprated V12 engine, which produces 600 PS.

    The Interior

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept interior

When we talk about cars we rarely speak of their interiors and they are usually staying in the shadows. Here however, we should mention some exclusive design touches like the herringbone carbon fibre, which is paired with shadow and anodized bronze and aniline leather; the ‘Z’ quilt pattern stitch on the seat and door sections, as well as the celebrated trademark Zagato ‘Z’ embossed on headrests and stitched into the centre console.

    Have we missed something?

  • Aston Martin Team Created Seven Unique Vanquish Vehicles

The Q by Aston Martin is celebrating the fulfilment of a longstanding ambition for sporty vehicles enthusiast and businessman Markus Storck.

Dr. Matthew Bennett, General Manager of VIP sales and Q by Aston Martin personalization service delivered the first seven unique and beautiful Vanquish Coupes to the German collector at a special event, held at a luxury headquarters in Gaydon. Mr. Storck, who is a founder and head of German hi-tech bicycle brand Storck Bikes, commissioned the Q by Aston Martin crew to craft an unique set of Vanquish vehicles just for himself and six close friends and sports car fans.

With incredible features and exclusive exterior finish, that include numerous carbon fiber components and incredible details, the Aston Martin developed seven vehicles, that will be collector’s items in just a year time.

But aside the several layers of carbon-fiber body and the satin Jet Black paint finish, the Vanquish sports vehicles also include a special set of luxurious and custom-made components like diamond qulting, machined carbon Aston Martin wing badges, of course the special “One of Seven” logo and wide variety of gloss black additions.

It is incredible what passion and love to the detail can create. The seven cars are really special, not because of their excellent performance features, but because Aston Martin team demonstrated one more time what does the art of creating a beautiful vehicle looks like.

  • Valentino and Aston Martin Release Vanquish Volante Special Edition

Valentino and Aston Martin have teamed up for a special project, which will support the “Cash & Rocket Tour”. Valentino will be the main sponsor of the event for the third consecutive year. The fourth edition has started yesterday and will continue until 19th of May. If you hear for the first time about the “Cash & Rocket”, this is a fundraising event that supports three humanitarian organizations: Shine on Sierra Leone, OAfrica and Sumbandila, which help African children and their families.

Next to many fundraising items, among them is an extremely special Aston Martin Vanquish Volante. Valentino had the mission to create a special edition of this model, which had to be entirely customized.

SEE ALSO: “The Vulcan” Erupts at the New York Auto Show

What we see here is the Valentino Camouflage pattern and Maison’s iconic studs. There is a lot of carbon fiber inside and out, as well as special leather treatment for the interior of the open-top vehicle.

There aren’t any other details here, although Valentino has said that the car is “completely customized”. So we will have to satisfy with what’s before our eyes.

Presumably this also means that this Vanquish Volante sports the same standard 6.0-liter V12 engine, which produces 573 hp (421 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of maximum torque. The V12 under the hood drives the car from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 294 km/h (183 mph).

Left unmentioned is that the proceeds from this special edition, sold during an auction, will be entirely donated to the three organizations mentioned above.

  • Henrik Fisker Shows-Off with Vanquish Based Thunderbolt Concept

Another exquisite car from Fisker was shown at the Concours d’Elegance this weekend. This time it isn’t a muscle car, but a very stylish V12 Vanquish which has taken the form of a Thunderbolt. Or at least its name. Being a GT coupe concept, the vehicle features timeless design and it is actually a representation of Henrik Fisker’s personal preferences about the Vanquish.

The body of the car shows design cues typical for Fisker, like the deeply sculpted air ducting, but what’s hidden here is that the bodywork was made of carbon. A large power dome is what has a strong presence on the hood as well as the one-off new head lamps.

At the rear the car features unique tail lights with blade-like form. It is also impossible not to see the innovative wraparound rear window and panoramic dark tinted glass roof. Moreover, other details around the exterior include aluminum grille and assorted bright work as well as 15 mm lowering of the ride height and 21-inch alloys.

Substantial changes have been made to the interior, too. In fact, the Thunderbolt is a concept that features the first application of Panasonic’s 11.6-inch Curved Control Screen that reduces reflections and glare.

In addition, the Swiss watch maker Maurice Lacroix delivered a Skeleton chronograph integrated into the dash, while Natuzzi supplied the trimmed Italian leather for the upholstery. A very special feature, which will definitely grab your attention, is the unique champagne/wine bottle holder that you can see in the gallery below. It is first of its kind and I must admit that it is very charming and creative element of the interior.

The sad news is that the car has been developed only as a study. However, Fisker has promised that it will use the help of his friends at Galpin Auto Sports for a limited number of additional cars only if there is any initial response for this and on the condition that the car stays non-commercial and a true collectible.

  • Aston Martin upgrades Vanquish and Rapide S models

    Aston-Martin-Vanquish_thumbAston-Martin-Vanquish_651

Aston Martin has announced a number of new and exciting technical improvements that will find their way into Vanquish and Rapide S models that belong to the 15 Model Year (15MY). The changes affect performance, fuel consumption and emissions as well as overall driving experience.

The first major change is that both models now come with the new Touchtronic III eight-speed automatic gearbox – the first time ever that this gearbox is integrated in a transaxle layout. The new gearbox has positive influence on both performance and fuel economy thanks to the efforts of ZF, with which Aston Martin has been partnering to bring the Touchtronic III to the Vanquish and Rapide S.

Ian Minards, Product Development Director at Aston Martin, explained: “We have a long and successful technical partnership with ZF and so it was a natural step for us to adapt and integrate their world class 8HP transmission into our transaxle layout.”

“This has been a detailed piece of work involving careful consideration of many technical parameters including gear ratios, software integration and shifting strategies.  This has delivered a significant step change in both vehicle performance and economy whilst preserving the unique Aston Martin V12 driving experience.”

The new 15MY cars also feature reduced 0-60 mph times – the Vanquish and Rapide S now accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds (3.8 seconds 0-100 km/h) and 4.2 seconds (4.4 seconds 0-100 km/h), respectively, down from 4.1 seconds for the Vanquish and 4.7 seconds for the Rapide S. The new gearbox and changes in the gear and final drive ratios also allow the cars to feature lower emissions that are now lower by an average of ten per cent – down to 298 g/km for Vanquish and 300 g/km for the Rapide S. Economy is boosted by thirteen per cent (Rapide S) and seven per cent (Vanquish) with the new transmission (US Combined cycle). In addition for the first time both cars can achieve 200 mph (320 km/h) and more. Peak power also rises – the Vanquish now sports 568 bhp (576 hp or 423 kW), while the Rapide S offers 552 bhp (560 hp or 412 kW) of power. Peak torque is also up to 465 lb.-ft. (630 Nm) at 5,500 rpm.

In addition to all this the new Aston Martin Vanquish and Rapide S take advantage of the latest Bosch Engine Management System. The new system, which delivers more precise engine control and seamlessly communicates with the new gearbox, receives its first application in an Aston Martin that combines the AM29 V12 engine and an automatic gearbox.

Uprated dampers on the new Vanquish – 15% stiffer at the front and a full 35% stiffer at the rear – improve the dynamic characteristic of the car in line with its significantly enhanced performance. Rapide S, meanwhile, gets uprated larger front brakes. Both cars also benefit from a retuned brake booster and amended rear suspension bushes that are now 20% stiffer than before. There are other minor changes to the two models as well.

The global market introduction of 15MY sports cars begins in Q3 of 2014, with more details on market-specific pricing and options available in due course.

  • The Ultimate Convertible Super GT: Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

Aston-Martin-Vanquish-Volante-THUMBThe ultimate luxury brand Aston Martin has just unveiled the premium convertible GT – Vanquish Volante. The coupe sibling of this model was launched globally last autumn and made a huge furore.

The cabrio version also benefits from the same technical, engineering and design advances. However, the new Volante enhances the driving experience still further through the option of exciting open-top driving.

Vanquish Volante is the first fully carbon fibre-skinned Volante in Aston Martin’s one hundred year history. Furthermore, vehicle’s triple-skin lightweight fabric roof can be manipulated at speeds of up to 30 mph and it needs just 14 seconds to fold.

The exterior design of the new car is a result of brand’s iconic visual language and includes styling cues such as the elegant waist, elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades. On the other hand, the windscreen is now full height; therefore the glass runs up to meet the fabric roof, thus reducing visual “clutter”.

Furthermore, the new models “suit” of carbon fibre panels cloaks a comfortable and luxury 2+2 cabin. The latter is created via sophisticated materials: full grain Luxmil leather with optional quilting, Alcantara and satin chrome.

One of the highlights in the interior is the centre stack with refinements which results in more elegant form. Car’s set-up keeps the familiar elements such as the ECU engine start button, gear selection buttons, but at the same time offers new infotainment system and a significantly more user-friendly design.

More importantly, the new Vanquish Volante is powered by the latest generation AM11 naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine. It is mated to a Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox and is capable of generating 565 hp (415 kW) at 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm.

The driving dynamics are also enhanced and tuned precisely via the new springs and damper settings, which are calibrated with the goal of delivering crisp handling and compliant ride. Vanquish Volante also utilizes Vertical Horizontal (VH) architecture which comprises of lightweight bonded aluminium structure with excellent strength and rigidity. The Vanquish also features significant semi-structural carbon fibre components.

What is more, in order to take full advantage of its precise and rigid architecture, the vehicle uses a battery of sophisticated technologies such as Dynamic Stability Control and Positive Torque Control. In addition, the Adaptive Damping System (ADS) gives the driver the ability to switch between three distinct damping modes: Normal, Sport and Track.

What ADS basically does is to automatically change the suspension settings and to ensure that the driver has high levels of control at all times. The damper settings are determined by an electronic control unit. The latter takes sensor information from the systems of the vehicle, featuring throttle position, brake position, steering wheel rotation and vehicle speed.

Next, this cabrio’s braking system comprises of the third generation Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes, which offer shorter stopping distances. The front brakes utilize 398 mm x 36 mm CCM brake discs with larger front brake pads and six-piston brake callipers. On the other hand, the rear brakes use 360 mm x 32 mm CCM brake discs with a four-piston calliper.

Aston Martin Vanquish Volante has a starting price of $297 995, and its first deliveries are expected to begin next year.
