  • Toyota Land Cruiser Continues On With A Great Legacy

The legendary Toyota Land Cruiser is still one of the top choices in off-road vehicles in the country. It is an impressive blend of four-wheel outdoor rough and ready with the elegance of a well mannered and quite civilized city dweller. It’s been around for over 60 years and is one of the most respected names in off-roading.

The Land Cruiser is an SUV that offers a number of standard amenities that let you know that even though you might be behind the wheel fording a creek or rolling up a rock infested incline, you are still in touch with civilization. The Land Cruiser comes with LED running lights and fog lights, a roof rack, rocker-sill passenger steps, underbody skid plates, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, automatic wipers, a sunroof, power-folding and auto-dimming outside mirrors, 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, a tow hitch with wiring harness and it seats eight passengers.

Inside the cabin you’ll find leather upholstery, a 10-way adjustable driver seat with memory functions, an eight-way power front passenger seat, heated 40/20/40-split folding second row seats and 50/50 split folding third row seats, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a universal garage door opener and a 120-volt household power outlet.

Who knew that this SUV had all this stuff? We didn’t and then we were surprised again when we found out there was even more standard equipment aboard. There is a 9-inch info touchscreen, Bluetooth phone, a rear seat DVD entertainment system with two screens, two wireless headphones, a wireless charging pad, a surround-view camera system that lets you select front, rear or side views of the vehicle’s exterior, Siri eyes free control, satellite and HD radio, 14 speaker JBL audio system and a USB – iPhone input.

The V8, 5.7-liter engine pumps out 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed auto transmission powers all four wheels and the two-speed transfer case gives you control of the drivetrain to either crawl on a slippery road at a safe pace or ride the highway at top speed. The Land Cruiser can tow up to 8,100 pounds and gets 15 miles per gallon combined city and highway driving. You’re in good hands with Land cruiser’s safety features: trailer-sway control, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, blind spot monitoring and airbags galore including second row airbags, front knee airbags, active front head restraints, front side airbags and front and rear parking sensors. Take a test in this legend at Atlantic Toyota.

  • Australian engineers pushed Toyota’s Land Cruiser to its limits. Check out what happened!

2016 Toyota LC70Toyota’s engineers decided to put to the test the upcoming LandCruiser 70 series upgrade. The team decided to go for a rather long walk: more than 100,000 kilometers of driving in different harsh conditions around the country.

Furthermore, about 70 per cent of the tests and experiments were made in off-road conditions that included corrugated dirt roads and rugged cattle properties with severe washouts.

And the results? Well, they show that the vehicle will be even stronger with the adoption of a stiffer frame with thicker side rails. Engineers has also fine-tuned some of the safety features and therefore improved the stability and traction control for better off-road capabilities.

Also, all the 70 Series models, whether they are single or double cab-chassis, wagon or troop carrier, will be geared with these very same fine-tuned safety features, along with the hill-start assist control, trailer sway control, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and cruise control. How cool is that?

In case you missed, the range comes with a 4.5-liter V8 turbo-diesel power unit with common-rail direct injection and special intercooler that meets all Euro5 ecology requirements. Some sweet additions include piezo injectors and refined manual gearbox with revised gearing that delivers better fuel economy and lower noise.

It gains more in terms of interior and exterior styling, updates regarding the engines and performance as well as safety improvements. For example, the appearance of the popular vehicle is now more modern and athletic, while the interior benefits from soft-touch surfaces, revised instrument cluster and controls. But let’s see exactly what has happened to this icon.

    Exterior

Beginning with the exterior, the designers have obviously kept the emblematic visual appearance. Some of the substantial changes include the grille, headlamps, bumper, fenders and bonnet. Precisely, the grille now features hexagonal frame and triple horizontal bars, resulting in more aggressive stance.

SEE ALSO: Land Cruiser Will Come With New Engine And Additional Gadgets

This is further emphasized by the subtle scooping in the centre of the bonnet and the convex shapes that extend to the front. Headlamps and front corners set back from the grille, round out the front end design.

At the sides we see protection moldings and door handles with slightly different appearance. At the rear the revisions include new bumper, upper tailgate panel as well as combination lamps, reflectors and mudguards.

Moreover, adding to the palette of exterior colors are two new shades: Copper Brown and Onyx Blue. They will be offered as an option on all grades except GX.

    Interior

2016 Toyota Land Cruiser Facelift Interior

The cabin of the Land Cruiser adopts soft padding for areas that directly contact occupants’ limbs and support their bodies. There are also changes to the switches and displays for the audio, air-conditioning and driver-related functions, which aim to achieve more convenient utilization.

For example, the centre cluster has received a storage area and a 12V outlet. Only the Sahara trim gets a wireless charger. Another change is found in both VX and Sahara grades, which adopt Optitron instrument cluster with 4.2-inch thin-film transistor colour Multi Information Display. These trim levels also gain Electro Multi Vision and Navigation unit with nine-inch display screen.

The interior colors are different for each grade. The GX is trimmed with grey fabric, while the GXL gets grey or beige fabric. The customers, who will choose the VX and Sahara trims, will have the option of selecting black or beige for their leather-accented interiors. And note that the GX is a 5-seater, while the diesel VX and Sahara are 7-seaters. All other grades have 8 seats.

    Drivetrains

2016 Toyota Land Cruiser Facelift V8 Engine

Two powerful V8 engines define the range of available drivetrains of the Land Cruiser. They are now better due to a substantial revision, resulting in more power and optimized efficiency. Both the twin-turbo diesel and its petrol alternative show better fuel consumption and tighter Euro 5 emissions.

To go into details, the 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel unit benefits from new injectors, revised mapping and a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The latter has been fitted with a guard to protect it over rough roads.

In addition, the changes to this drivetrain include also increased power output up to 272 hp (200 kW) and the same torque of 650 Nm (480 lb-ft). Improvement of 8 percent is seen in the fuel economy and emissions, showing 9.5 litres per 100km.

The 4.6-litre petrol V8 engine gets updates to its air-injection system in order to achieve reduced emissions. The variable valve timing on the inlet and exhaust ports helps this engine maintain 309 hp (227 kW) and 439 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. Fuel economy and emissions have been also improved but Toyota didn’t release any specific numbers.

    Safety Features

2016 Toyota Land Cruiser Facelift Side View

Regarding the safety, the top of the LandCruiser 200 range, the Sahara trim, receives a package of advanced features. An instance is the ability to prevent or reduce the severity of a collision. Called Pre-Collision Safety, this system warns the driver of a possible collision and automatically applies the brakes.

On the other hand, Lane Departure Alert helps in avoiding collisions by warning the driver in case the vehicle is about to move unintentionally across lanes without using the turn signals.

Sahara also gets radar, sensors and front camera which are utilized to detect other road users and lane markings. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam are the other two features new to the Land Cruiser 200 range.

    LandCruiser Line-up

Featured in Land Cruiser’s line-up there are a total of four grades. GX remains the diesel-only model, while the GXL, VX and Sahara can be specified with petrol or diesel engines. Both units are fitted with six-speed automatic transmission.

  • The 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser improves the brake-control system

2013 Toyota Land Cruiser The top-class 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser excels the expectations as promises to be luxurious and unleash its off-road capability.

It comes standard with the 5.7-liter Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 32-valve V8 engine under the hood and produces 381 hp and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2013 Land Cruiser has a six-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the 4-wheel drive system.

The items that used to be optional in the previous Land Cruisers are now standard. It concerns exterior and interior parts as well.

When it comes to safety, the Land Cruiser gives plenty to appreciate. It is equipped with 10 airbags and also includes driver and front passenger knee airbags. The front seats include active headrests that help reduce the severity of whiplash injuries.

The multi-terrain SUV, Toyota Land Cruiser is going to provide as safe and convenient drive as possible. Though it comes with the standard STAR Safety System, the 2013 Land Cruiser will have the all new 5-speed CRAWL Control featuring an Off-Road Turn Assist. The CRAWL Control balances speed and outlet as well. Along with the CRAWL Control, the other brake systems include anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), active traction control (A-TRAC), and finally, VSC (with a cut-off switch).

In block, the brake system helps to adjust to an off-road surface and keep controlling the vehicle. EBD equals braking forces between the front and rear wheels, and the BA serves as an auxiliary in emergency braking. A-TRAC maintains traction and distributes the drive force while accelerating. VSC supplies directional control while cornering and operates engine torque and individual wheel-braking influence in case of tire slippage.

The Smart Stop Technology (SST) is the most prominent 2013 Land Cruiser’s feature concerning safety. It is capable to completely stop the vehicle at the speed over 5 mph and apply brakes firmly for a half second or longer.

The 2013 Land Cruiser’s benefit number one is its brake assist, so that safety is guaranteed always and everywhere, be it a slippery winter highway or an off-road.

  • Improving on Perfection With the Toyota Land Cruiser MY 2013

Land Cruiser, the ultra luxurious SUV from Toyota, has received some enhancements for the 2013 model year. Both the interior and the exterior have been revised and a bag full of features, formally optional, are now standard.

On the outside we get an updated front grille, headlights with HID low-beams, chromed side moldings and restyled side view mirrors and taillights. To further affirm the rigid image of the Cruiser, the front and rear fenders have also been enlarged. The A-pillars are specially filled with foam and the molding between the windscreen and the body is “bifacial”. Because of that wind noise is significantly reduced. A new Pearl White paint finish is available for the MY 2013, making a total of 7 color options. Under the chassis, guards extend throughout the engine bay and also behind the rear axle to provide extra protection from rocky terrains.  The wheels that carry the Cruiser measure at 18 inches and are wrapped with P285/60 R18 heavy duty tires. The 13.4 inch  ventilated brake disks are equally impressive with their four-piston brake calipers.

Inside small tweaks complement the overall redesign – a perforated leather trim on the ventilated front seats, an even more glossy wood grain finish and enhanced meter-cluster lighting. Additional technology includes a Multi-terrain Monitor which allows pretty much a 360-degree view around the vehicle, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, a heated steering wheel and even a DC 12V power socket at the end of the central console along with the 120 AC one back at the cargo deck. DVD screens behind the front seat headrests will pacify rear-seat passengers. Sixteen JBL speakers can tear shatter glass from a mile as Toyota’s Premium Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation with Entune multimedia system can keep keep people occupied for hours should they decide to fiddle with it. The gauge instruments are accompanied by a screen showing gear selection, fuel economy, tire pressure, and cruising range. The center console on the other hand, houses a gate-type shifter with a sequential shift mode, a parking brake, a cooler box , a USB port and cup holders.

    Toyota Land Cruiser (2013)
    Toyota Land Cruiser (2013)

Power still comes from the state of the art 5.7-liter, 381 horsepower V8 DOHC. Peak torque is at 3.600 rpm, measuring up to 401 lb-ft. Toyota’s Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) operates both intake and exhaust valves in such a way, so that power, fuel efficiency and emissions are fully optimized. For a more precise toque delivery, The Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) decides how long should a valve stay open, depending on rpm and throttle angle. The exhaust system, along with the exhaust manifolds, enjoys a stainless steel build. The six-speed automatic transmission handles the demanding job of processing ginormous amounts of power while remaining smooth and subtle.

Along with the ten airbags, there is also a handful of blisteringly complex array of systems that work together to keep all four wheels on the ground, ensure the safety of the biological unit inside (driver really), and deliver traction whenever and wherever needed. Just to give you a clue of what the Cruiser employes we can talk about the pre-collision detection system which can further restrain seat-belts should it detect a forthcoming impact.

This car truly is an off-road going palace riddled with luxury and technology and with prices starting at  $68.000 it should be.
