  • Tesla Model X reveal [VIDEO]

Tesla-Model-X-thumbHere’s a longish video of Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk unveiling the Model X – an electric SUV with the practicality of a minivan and the efficiency of a … well… electric SUV.

It features a unique design that makes use of gullwing doors, although Tesla would prefer the term “Falcon Wing” but the principle remains the same. Third-row access is easy. Even with child seats installed, the second-row seats slide all the way forward. Open Falcon Wings will allow you to stand upright whether getting in or out. Kids will no longer leap and tumble over the second row, and adults will find the third-row seats as accessible as the passenger seat.

In terms of performance, as expected from an EV, torque is instantly available and the center of gravity is very low. Drivetrain composition comes in three different types – Model X with RWD, Model X with AWD (a second motor is added to the front axle). Last but certainly not least is the AWD setup with a performance package. With it the X is good for a time of under 5 seconds in the 0 to 60mph sprint. Strikingly fast. Presumably one would be able to do many sprints from 0 to 60 thanks to the voluminous battery pack which comes with capacity of either 60 kWh or 85 kWh.

Sales are expected to kick off in 2014, production 2013 while reservations are open now. Because the X is actually based on the S it will be around the same price as well.

  • Tesla Roadster 2012 Limited Availability

Tesla Motors is saying goodbye to their all-electric Roadster with style. A last revision of the sports car will be available in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Exclusivity in the last Tesla Roadster can be found within a range of new body colors – Cosmic Black, Galactic Gray and Magma Orange come with coordinated interior shades. It will also perform better in snowy conditions due to a provided snow cover and improvements on the motor and inverter systems. Because of that update the driver inside will also enjoy improved air conditioning. Other minor tweaks include xenon headlights, soundproofing and better connectivity (in Tesla terms that means that one will be able to plug in their car in almost any socket common for that region).

With a bit over 2000 Roadster units sold, do you think Tesla Motors is gathering pace towards a change in the automotive world and if so, is it for the better?

  • Electric Supercars at 2011 EcoVelocity

Several green super cars will take place at the 2011 Eco Velocity show hosted in the grounds of Battersea Power Station. As you may suggest, all Eco-cars are slow and ugly, but not these.

The line-up includes the Bluebird Electric, fresh from its British Electric Land Speed Record attempt in South Wales as well as the Tesla Roadster, the first highway capable electric car in serial production.

Other interesting vehicles are The Delta Motorsport E-4 Coupe with whopping range of 200 miles (more than 320 km) on a single charge. There will be also the superfast Evelio – 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds; The Lightning GT which produces 700 HP; The Nemisis Electric Sports Car and Westfield Sport E – 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds.

“The addition of the green supercar paddock might well be a little bit unexpected for some visitors and will definitely grab a lot of attention, but that is the whole point, changing perceptions.”, commented Giles Brown, EcoVelocity Event Director.

“We are here to educate people about eco friendly motoring which is evolving all the time.”, he added.

EcoVelocity will run from September 8-11th at the Battersea Power Station.

  • 2012 Tesla Model S Alpha

It appears that the saloon model of Tesla – S will be ready to hit the market in 2012 as it was scheduled. However, the car looks ready to us, but obviously there are some other troubles.

The Model S comes with refined exterior. New front bumper, a sleeker design and some other touches. Still, the manufacturer didn’t release any technical specifications. Still, there is enough time even for rebuilding the drivetrain.

According to the previous data, Tesla S will feature a large battery pack with range up to 480km (300 miles). Furthermore, there will be 230 mile and 160 mile options, because as you may know, the batteries are not your property, when you buy an electric vehicle.

Tesla Model S is also planned to come with right-hand drive for Europe and Asia, but in mid 2013.

So, stay tuned to learn more about this interesting vehicle. Many manufacturers has released some electric vehicles, but tesla specilizes in this for a very long period, so it is expected to have one of the best EVs on the market.
