  • Subaru debuts refreshed 2023 Legacy sedan

2023 Subaru Legacy - Front Angle

Subaru of America, Inc. today announced the 2023 Legacy midsize sedan with updated styling and new safety and in-vehicle technologies. Also new, the Sport trim level comes standard with the powerful 2.4-liter turbo SUBARU BOXER® engine. For 2023 model year, Legacy will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring XT trim levels when it arrives in Subaru retailers this fall.

The 2023 Legacy lineup receives a bolder look thanks to a new front fascia incorporating a more prominent grille and redesigned LED headlights. The sedan comes standard with the latest generation of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology and the enhanced system operates more smoothly and under a greater range of conditions. These improvements are thanks to a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster.

The latest version of the SUBARU STARLINK 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay® and wireless Android™ Auto with full screen display. The updated system now offers improved on-screen controls for audio, HVAC, and vehicle features.

The top-level Touring XT adds a Wide-Angle Mono Camera that works with the dual-camera EyeSight system. The additional camera expands the field of view even further to recognize pedestrians and bicycles sooner when the vehicle enters an intersection at low speed. EyeSight gives an alert to the driver and, when necessary, applies brakes to avoid collisions.

On models equipped with Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, EyeSight now includes Automatic Emergency Steering. The two systems work in conjunction to help avoid a collision with an obstacle at speeds less than 50 mph.

    SPORT TRIM ENHANCEMENTS

For 2023, the Sport trim level comes standard with the 260 hp 2.4-liter turbo BOXER engine. The Sport trim’s exterior is immediately distinguishable by a red accent across the front grille; magnetite gray metallic side mirrors and trunk spoiler; and gray 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior comes in an exclusive black and gray two-tone cloth with contrasting red stitching. The Sport builds on the Premium trim and adds sport-tuned suspension, LED fog lights, power moonroof, and navigation. Additional standard safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking and DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System.

    PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING

The 2023 Legacy delivers the optimal blend of comfort and performance with standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Active Torque Vectoring, and Vehicle Dynamics Control. The naturally aspired 2.5-liter engine produces 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. Standard on Sport and Touring XT, the 2.4-liter turbocharged BOXER engine delivers robust all-around performance with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

All 2023 Legacy models are paired with Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) featuring an 8-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shifters. The 2.4-liter turbo delivers an estimated 24/32 mpg city/highway. The 2.5-liter achieves up to an estimated 35 mpg and a range of more than 600 miles on a single tank.

    STRUCTURE AND SAFETY

The Legacy is built on the Subaru Global Platform which has been optimized for rigidity and crash absorption. When a crash is unavoidable, the Legacy protects driver and passengers with eight standard airbags, including a driver knee airbag. Subaru expects the 2023 Legacy will achieve top safety scores when it is tested later this year, including a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology includes Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, which provides steering assist when the vehicle veers toward the outside of its lane, helping the driver maintain a direct path. The DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System (standard on Sport and Touring XT) uses a dedicated infrared camera and facial recognition technology to identify signs of driver fatigue or distraction and provides audio and visual warnings to alert the driver and passengers. Additional driver-assist technologies are available, including Reverse Automatic Braking and EyeSight Assist Monitor with head-up display.

Select 2023 Legacy trim levels are equipped with the latest generation of SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security. Available packages offer access to emergency services and convenience features including Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Vehicle Diagnostic Alerts, Remote Engine Start with Climate Control, and more.

All trim levels feature power door locks, windows and side mirrors; Welcome Lighting; Remote Keyless Access; Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Individual Wheel Display; and 60/40 folding rear seats. Moving up to the Premium trim adds the 11.6-inch STARLINK Multimedia Plus system; All-Weather Package; 10-way power front driver seat with lumbar support; and Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control. The Limited trim includes Keyless Entry with Push-Button Start; perforated leather interior; Harman Kardon® premium audio system; and heated rear seats (outboard position). The Touring XT trim includes ventilated front seats; Front View Monitor; and a power moonroof.

For powering and pairing personal devices, Legacy comes standard with a front USB A input/charge port and 3.5 mm auxiliary input jack as standard. Front and rear USB C ports are added to Premium trim and higher.

    BOLD DESIGN

For 2023, the Legacy lineup receives a new front fascia that includes an aggressive front bumper cover, larger grille, and redesigned LED headlights and fog lights. This design continues the automaker’s Dynamic x Solid philosophy that gives the Legacy a low and wide stance. The interior has an outstanding forward view and features character lines flowing from the center of the instrument panel to the door panels to create an open environment. The tablet-style 11.6-inch Full HD center information display (dual 7.0-inch display on base) offers direct touch controls for multimedia, HVAC, and vehicle settings.

The top-of-the-line Touring XT leverages luxurious appointments inside and out, including new Slate Black Nappa leather with contrasting silver stitching, high-gloss black molding for the pillars, chrome plating decorated door handles, and satin tone plated side mirrors.

New for 2023, the navigation system has integrated what3words (W3W), an innovative location technology that provides a simple way to communicate precise locations using just three simple words.

The Legacy is built at Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) in Lafayette, Indiana along with the Ascent, Impreza, and Outback.

  • Subaru Teases 2015 Legacy Ahead Of Chicago Debut

2015-Subaru-Legacy-Teaser-THUMB2015 Subaru Legacy Concept was introduced in November last year during the Los Angelis Auto Show. The model was designed with to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Legacy model and also offered a glimpse of what the future models in the line-up would look like.

Almost four months later, Subaru is putting into practice its promise and releasing the first teaser image of the new 2015 Legacy production sedan. The vehicle is set to debut on 6th of February at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.

What we can conclude from the image is that the new Legacy will offers a sleeker, more coupe-like profile next to the faster windshield rake angle and narrower A-pillars. This contributes towards the sporty and modern appearance of the model.

Subaru stated that the Legacy will be a mid-size sports sedan that will deliver improved driveability and functionality while achieving a design required for a flagship model with a quality feel. It will sport a design infused with functionality in terms of roominess and visibility and will embody the design direction proposed by the Legacy Concept.

The Japanese brand didn’t reveal much in addition to this, so we have to wait until the official premiere. Whether the production sedan will look like the concept model will become clear in less than a week. Till then you can take a sneak peak of what the concept looks like:

  • 2015 Subaru Legacy Concept With World Debut In Los Angeles

2015-Subaru-Legacy-Concept-THUMB2015 Subaru WRX will make its official debut in the forthcoming Los Angelis Auto Show. In addition, Subaru will also officially reveal another star – 2015 Legacy Concept. The model comes to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Subaru Legacy.

2015 Legacy also provides look at the styling cues for future models in the line-up. The car has an exterior decided in the voluptuous custom-made Ocean Silver Metallic paint. Moreover, from what we can assume after viewing the photos, the vehicle has more coupe-like silhouette.

Subaru Legacy Concept is a modern interpretation of the popular model and what is more, it includes more distinguished front design with a new hexagonal grille and a sharper hawk-eye headlamp design. The car runs on 21-inch wheels with flared wheel arches, which also hint at the standard Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive drivetrain.

The same unique design philosophy can be seen at the back, where the pronounced character line flows into the short rear deck and ends in the rear tail lamps. Of course, the latter, echo the hawk-eye headlamp design and improve the solidity of the overall design. LA Auto Show will start on 20th of November, so stay tuned for more surprises until then.

  • Subaru Legacy and Outback – Facelifted and Updated

Subaru-Legacy-Touring-thumbSubaru are letting loose the latest Legacy and Outback models: For Japan, that means not mere MY releases but proper revisions – minor facelifting, chassis and body changes and new engines. The company likes to sum up their actions by using “concepts” which can be articulated in simple phrases. This one is called an “All Performance Enhancement” – the focus falls on fuel efficiency, driveablity and safety.

One of the two new engines (both of them are flat) is an improved version of the familiar, naturally aspirated 2.5-liter one. The Legacies and Outbacks designated with 2.5i usually develop 168 hp and 229 Nm of torque. Now, low to mid speed torque comes even easier. That on the other hand, called for a better CVT so a new Lineatronic transmission was also introduced. It improves fuel-efficiency and tackles the incoming torque more smoothly. Further improvement on the frugality is courtesy to the Impreza derived auto start/stop system.

The Legacy gets a new bumper and revised headlights plus grille thus making it look more wide and sharp. The Outback receives also gets similar optics in its own way. A way that is supposed to convey the image of a flagship SUV. Both of the cars get a 3.5-inch color LCD display at the center of the speedometer. There, the driver can monitor the fuel consumption and the operational situation of the “EyeSight” feature (the camera at the front that monitors the road for obstacles and eventual collisions). Convenient and safe stuff.

What one probably won’t notice is the enhanced rigidity of the Legacy’s body and chassis. By adding a support sub frame at the back and tweaking the spring settings on both ends, one gets a comfortable ride with superior on-the-road stability.

    Subaru Outback 2.5 EyeSight (2013)
    Subaru Outback 2.5 EyeSight (2013)

The other engine goes on the Legacy (wagon or sedan) and the designation will be 2.0GT DIT – Direct Injection Turbo that is. With 2.0-liters of displacement, DOHC and 16 valves, this is a new breed of engines that will hopefully sperad out. By injecting fuel directly into the cylinders, Subaru have made it possible to up the efficiency by 20%. The bore/stroke inside the pots is equally proportioned – 86mm x 86mm. That’s what’s known as a square engine which is ideal for direct fuel injecting. The twin scroll type turbocharger is said to be lively on low speeds and to have helped in extracting 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

Add to that the same Lineartronic transmission mentioned above and you get yourself a perfectly decent family car that’s capable of putting a smile on your face trough lively response. What makes it so suitable for a family car – it’s stability, safety and refinement – 18-inch aluminum wheels as standard, minimized vehicle sway and an enlarged stabilizer diameter which in turn offers great stability when changing lanes and cornering.

  • 2013 Subaru Legacy unveiled at 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition

2013-Subaru-Legacy-THUMB2013 Subaru Legacy has just been unveiled at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. What lies beyond this new model is the philosophy of “All performance enhancement”. This refers to improvement made regarding the design, fuel economy, drivability and safety.

In addition to this Subaru Legacy comes with more extensive modifications, which are not only limited in to exterior and interior changes.

The new Subaru model delivers more excitement in driving and more comfort for the passengers. In addition it is equipped with the new generation Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine, thanks to which the fuel economy is improved.

The exterior design of the vehicle conveys stability and confidant stance. This is probably due to the headlamps with the motif common with other Subaru vehicles and a hexagon grille.

Other modifications were made on the vehicle’s height which was raised by 60 mm. In addition to this the front bumper, side spoiler and rear bumper were newly designed.

All these original modifications in the exterior design of the legacy result in bolder look and powerful presence.

The front and rear fender design now has massive wheel arches. For this reason the vehicle’s width was extended by 40mm.

2013 Subaru Legacy sits on the new 18 inch-wheels, while the wheel arch designs embodies power running through the symmetrical All-Wheel drive. The high-quality of the car is further highlighted by the chrome parts which can be found on the side sill spoiler and rear bumper.

    2013 Subaru Legacy
    2013 Subaru Legacy

Furthermore, the interior of the car now expresses luxury and comfort. The color of the center panel, front console and steering switch panel is now black-metal-like color. In addition, electronic parking brake and “SI-DRIVE” switches were relocated for better usability.

The new Legacy is also environmentally “conscious”: the fuel efficiency it provides is now outstanding. This is due to the new generation Boxer engine, which combines the light and compact second-generation Lineartronic (CVT).

Moreover, suspensions were also updated in order to refine the driving experience.

In terms of safety features, the vehicle includes the additional bumper beam reinforcement and the knee airbag for a driver. There is also added the VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) with new control system.
