After a month after its successful launch in the UK, the all-new SsangYong Korando was awarded the highest possible safety rating from Euro NCAP. The contemporary vehicle features tons of space and capabilities and now comes with a redesigned exterior and improved interior design.

Korando has managed to achieve 88 percent for adult occupant protection, 85 percent for child protection, 68% for pedestrian protection and 74 percent in the “Safety Assist” category.

Furthermore, Korando comes with high-strength steel construction, which features high-density steel. This construction ensures a safe journey but also contributes to overall lighter body design. Additionally, the machine boasts 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Programme, Traction Control System, Active Rollover Protection, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Front Vehicle Start Alert, Safety Distance Alert, and Emergency Stop Signal.

Additional safety systems and goodies include emergency call system, reversing camera, alarm, immobilizer, tire pressure monitoring system, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, automatic speed-sensing door locks, electronic parking brake with auto hold, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, parking aids front and rear and ISO FIX.

SsangYong is extending the Korando with two new commercial models. These are the two-wheel drive CS and the four-wheel drive CSX. The front of the model has received new treatment including slimmed down black mesh radiator grille, projection headlights and LED daytime running lights. Inside, the featured re-design includes new dashboard. There have been also achieved advances in reducing noise, vibration and harshness.

The latest Korando Commercial is driven by the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, which is offered with a choice of two wheel drive or 4×4. The CS trim is powered by advanced 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo diesel developing 149 hp (110 kW) at 4,000rpm and 360Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. The CO2 are reduced to 147g/km (CS) and 157g/km (CSX).

The flat load area is accessed via a high lifting tailgate or two side doors. It packs 1,312 cubic litre load volume.  There is also a load deck length of 152.5cm, and 96.5cm between the wheel arches. The car also carries a very practical 433 kg payload, and pulls a 2 tonne trailer.

CSX features an impressive Torque on Demand 4×4 system and is equipped with ESP with Hill Start Assist, and mud & snow tyres as standard. Other features in the standard equipment include: electric windows and tinted glass, leather covered steering wheel and gear shift, cruise control and an MP3 CD & RDS radio with iPod & Bluetooth connectivity, remote audio controls and six speakers.

More importantly, the Korando CSX includes a Torque on Demand four wheel drive system. It monitors the level of grip and distributes power to those wheels which need it the most. If the driving conditions are normal, the engine’s torque is directed to the front wheels.

If the front tyres begin to lose traction, power is automatically fed to the rear wheels to ensure more stability. There is also an all-wheel drive lock mode, which delivers 50/50 spread of torque between the front and rear wheels at speeds up to 25mph.

SsangYong has released full details and pricing for the 2014 Korando Facelift. The model has recently won The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Award 2014 for vehicles under £16,000. It received full inside and out makeover as well as enhanced driving refinement.

The exterior features black mesh radiator grille, more contemporary headlights and a wider, low level air intake are the principal enhancements. The new headlight units have projection lamps and LED DRLs for increased visibility and safety, surrounded by a stylish black and aluminium bezel.  Further illumination is provided on the ELX4 model with neat round fog lamps set discreetly within the lower bumper.

There are new designs for both the 16” and 17” wheels, and three new exterior colours – Sunrise red, Cosmic blue and Carbonic grey as well as Space black, Grand white and Silent silver.

The interior now combines an attractive and comfortable ambiance for the driver and passengers alike.  There is a completely redesigned dashboard featuring soft-touch materials for a greater sense of luxury, complemented by natural matt wood grain insets, and abundant storage space that includes enlarged cup holders, a mobile phone tray and flip-down sunglasses tray.

In conjunction with the standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with emergency brake assist and four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), the four-wheel drive system provides the best possible grip and control whatever the conditions.  Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Active Roll-over Protection (ARP) also feature.

2014 SsangYong Korando is now available to order with first deliveries at the beginning of the next year.

2012 SsangYong Korando Sports is going to be launched in October. For the first time it was presented as a concept at international motor shows last year. Now Korando Sports is ready to bring new level of refinement to the market.

The new SsangYong model is going to combine the suspension, engine and cabin finesse of a passenger car, the silhouette, space and seating for five that’s typical of a double cab, and the rugged workmanlike ability of a commercial pick-up.

This Korando is the prefect practical vehicle which has the capability to haul up to 2.3 tonnes and yet also to be used as a family car. It meets a range of different demands from towing a work trailer or horsebox to ferrying the crew to site or the children to school.

Furthermore, the SUV will deliver its driver both great performance and economy, thanks to its e-XDi active diesel engine. This new 2 litre engine generates maximum power of 155 hp (114 kW) and has a peak torque of 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) delivered between 1,500rpm and 2,800rpm.

The fresh and modern exterior design is also a highlight here. It has a dynamic and sophisticated appearance, including a mesh grille, trapezoidal bumper and stylish black headlight bezels to provide a premium touch.

The sharp belt line runs to the rear bumper contributing to a sleek and sporty stance. The wide glass area at the rear affords excellent rearward visibility.

In terms of interior, the Korando Sports provides a spacious cabin. One can also experience there the light and airy environment thanks to the large front, side and rear windows. At the same time the careful blending of black and metallic finishes along with an LED illuminated instrument cluster give the interior design a feel of luxury and refinement.

In the model range are to be two versions. The firs one – the SX, is already comprehensively equipped, while the EX comes with the luxury touch of leather upholstery with seat warmers, powered driver’s seat, distinctive 18” alloy wheels, heated, electrically adjustable and power folding door mirrors, and rear parking sensors.

In terms pf practicality this SUV offers everything that one might need. For instance, the large, flat rear deck delivers a 2.04m2 load area completed with load deck liner and anchor points. An optional rigid hard top is available to provide weather protection and security to the load area, and comes with a hinged rear window that closes behind the tailgate so that the car’s central locking secures and protects the contents.

The price of the new pick-up will be announced at its launch in October.
