  • Introducing the New Range Rover Sport

2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - Front View

New Range Rover Sport redefines sporting luxury, combining assertive and instinctive on-road performance with Range Rover refinement, progressive design sophistication and connected convenience. The third-generation model is the most desirable, advanced and dynamically capable yet.

A suite of powerful and efficient(1) powertrains includes six-cylinder extended range Electric Hybrid, a potent new V8 and two mild hybrid six-cylinder gasoline Ingenium engine. Pure-electric propulsion will be introduced in 2024, as Land Rover continues its electrification journey.

The new Range Rover Sport is available in SE, SE Dynamic and Autobiography specifications, with a First Edition available throughout the first year of production featuring a specially curated specification.

“The exceptional New Range Rover Sport sets new standards as the ultimate sporting luxury SUV, building on seventeen years of unique customer appeal,” said, Thierry Bolloré, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover. “It is the latest embodiment of our vision to create the world’s most desirable modern luxury vehicles, effortlessly blending new levels of sustainability with the signature qualities that have made Range Rover Sport so popular.”

    Design in detail

The sophisticated exterior is unmistakably Range Rover Sport with taut surfacing, a dynamic stance and instantly recognizable profile, perfectly accentuated by stealth-like detailing and muscular proportions – giving the impression the vehicle is poised and ready.

Dramatic proportions accentuate the Range Rover Sport vehicle’s distinctive character, with short overhangs, an assertive front-end and steeply raked glazing at the front and back. These distinct elements provide a strong and imposing road presence that communicate power and performance.

The sculpted exterior is detailed with exquisite finishes such as a stealth-like front grille and Premium LED lighting units, which create a unique Daytime Running Light (DRL) signature. The eye-catching designs, the slimmest ever fitted to a Land Rover vehicle, sit above a sculpted, double-aperture lower bumper that incorporates a horizontal bisecting body-color element that creates greater visual width, enhanced by black detailing.

Perfectly honed design elements are echoed at the rear, incorporating a sculpted tailgate with a full-width feature bearing the Range Rover script. Uninterrupted LED light graphics introduce surface LED technology to a production vehicle for the first time, providing a crisp and contemporary look at night that is vivid and consistent when viewed from any angle. A characteristic shoulder line runs the length of the vehicle, accentuated by new lower fender details and the longest spoiler ever fitted to a Range Rover.

The clean lines of the exterior are enhanced by beautifully executed flush glazing and door handles, a hidden waist rail finisher and laser-welded roof for a precise, technical and sophisticated appearance. These design-enabling technologies contribute to excellent aerodynamic performance, with New Range Rover Sport delivering a drag coefficient of just 0.29.

The new Dynamic model brings an even sharper focus to the performance SUV’s purposeful character with unique exterior design elements. Satin Grey alloy wheels are joined by Satin Burnished Copper finishes for the hood louvers and side ingots while the front grill and Range Rover lettering are finished in Matte Graphite Atlas.

With unique front and rear bumpers and bespoke lower cladding finished in body color, the Dynamic delivers the most dramatic interpretation of the Range Rover Sport formula.

“Our latest range Rover Sport embraces fully our modernist approach of vehicle design whilst amplifying its unquestionable sporting and confident character,” said Prof Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer, Jaguar Land Rover.

New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s reductive design extends to its all-new interior, which features the distinctive Range Rover Command Driving Position, the latest technologies and the finest materials, which combine for a compelling balance of sartorial elegance and visceral desire. The cockpit-like cabin sets the tone for the dynamic driving experience, providing excellent visibility while simultaneously cocooning the driver with a high, sloping center console and intuitive technologies.

Innovative and sustainable material choices include tactile and lightweight Ultrafabrics™ premium textiles finished in attractive new Duo Tone colorways, while a unique textile option that extends to the dashboard and door detailing is also available. Alternatives include luxurious Windsor or soft Semi-Aniline leather options.

These tactile materials seamlessly blend with new Moonlight Chrome interior finishers while elements like the integrated audio speakers, developed with Meridian™ and hidden behind the textile of the rear doors, contribute to the clean, crisp and modern aesthetic.

    Engaging on every journey

New Range Rover Sport introduces more advanced chassis technologies than ever before, providing a comprehensive dynamic toolkit for the most engaging and dynamically capable driving experience.

The inherent stiffness and strength of the flexible mixed-metal architecture (MLA-Flex) – which provides up to 35 percent higher torsional stiffness than the previous Range Rover Sport – lays the foundations for this technology. It harmoniously works with a suite of systems governed by the Integrated Chassis Control system – all specially tuned for New Range Rover Sport.

“Land Rover’s pioneering flexible MLA architecture and the latest chassis systems come together to deliver the highest levels of dynamism we’ve ever seen on Range Rover Sport,” said Nick Collins, Executive Director Vehicle Programs, Jaguar Land Rover. “Integrated Chassis Control governs the comprehensive suite of innovations, co-ordinating everything from the latest switchable-volume air suspension system to our Dynamic Response Pro electronic active roll control(2). The result is the most engaging and thrilling Range Rover Sport ever.”

New Dynamic Response Pro, unique to First Edition, works hand-in-hand with the latest generation Dynamic Air Suspension, which introduces switchable-volume air springs for the first time(2).

Dynamic Response Pro helps provide roll control via a 48-volt electronic active roll control system, capable of applying up to 1000 ft-lbs of torque across each axle, for a confidence-inspiring driving experience and new levels of body control and cornering composure(2).

Dynamic Air Suspension is fitted to every New Range Rover Sport and the intelligent system enhances the bandwidth of the suspension. This works by varying the pressure within the chambers (higher pressure provides stiffer damping) to deliver traditional Range Rover comfort with the dynamic handling expected from the Range Rover Sport. To optimize responses, the vehicle monitors the road ahead using eHorizon navigation data to pre-emptively prime for upcoming bends2.

Adaptive Dynamics 2 technology contributes to dynamic capability by continuously controlling the Active Twin Valve Dampers to reduce unwanted body movements. It monitors external factors up to 500 times per second to deliver the ideal responses and, in harmony with the other chassis technologies, delivers the most precise and composed driving dynamics of any Range Rover Sport(2).

New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s cornering agility is taken to a new level with All-Wheel Steering, Torque Vectoring by Braking and the Electronic Active Differential. All-Wheel Steering provides rear-wheel steering of up to 7.3 degrees out of phase with the front wheels to achieve enhanced agility and maneuverability at low speeds, while turning in-phase for enhanced stability at high speeds7. This gives New Range Rover Sport the turning circle of a hatchback and on-road agility of a much smaller car.

The very best of the New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s chassis systems combine in the Stormer Handling Pack, unique to the First Edition, which includes Dynamic Response Pro, All-Wheel Steering, the Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring by Braking and Configurable Programs(2). The latter provides the opportunity to personalize the driving modes, tailoring the driving experience both on and off road. All elements of this pack are standard and available only on the First Edition.

All New Range Rover Sport models are fitted with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, which is designed to intuitively anticipate where traction is required, efficiently engaging to help provide the most effective progress in various conditions(2).

Enhancing the off-road performance is Land Rover’s latest Terrain Response® (2) system, which intelligently applies the most appropriate settings for the terrain. New Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control makes its debut on New Range Rover Sport and helps drivers navigate tricky terrain by maintaining steady progress according to the ground conditions. Drivers can select one of four comfort settings and the system intelligently adjusts the speed accordingly, allowing the driver to focus on steering(2).

    Epitome of sporting luxury

New Range Rover Sport makes every journey an event. It can be honed to be as dynamically engaging as the driver desires, while offering enhanced levels of refinement and comfort. This ability to combine dual characters, offering heightened luxury and driver-focused engagement, is made possible by a comprehensive set of technologies and features.

Providing the perfect foundation for an engaging and supportive journey are 22-way adjustable, heated and ventilated electric memory front seats with massage function and winged headrests. The flagship seats provide the ultimate support for longer journeys and involving drives on winding roads, while rear passengers benefit from ergonomically optimized seat geometry, with a .8 inch increase in legroom and .3 inch greater knee clearance, for greater comfort and support.

Next-generation Cabin Air Purification Pro is available to create and maintain the perfect driving environment. It combines PM2.5 filtration and nanoeTM X technology to significantly reduce odors, bacteria and allergens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus. A second nanoeTM X device is fitted to the second row to provide consistent air quality throughout the cabin. An advanced CO2 Management function allows owners to purify the cabin before a journey, or while they are driving – ensuring increased alertness for every drive, and enhanced wellbeing for all occupants.

Powerful Meridian audio systems are available, and the Meridian Signature Sound System is the most advanced audio system ever fitted to a Range Rover Sport. It presents an enveloping sound experience using 29 speakers, a new subwoofer and up to 1,430W of amplifier power – including four headrest speakers that enable those travelling in the four main seats of the vehicle to experience personal sound zones.

Next generation Active Noise Cancellation plays its part here, reducing the effect of road and tire noise entering the cabin for ultimate cabin refinement or to allow occupants to enjoy the undiluted soundtrack provided by New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s powertrain. This experience is heightened when the vehicle is in the Dynamic driving mode(2), when the advanced system brings the engine sounds to the fore. In normal driving, microphones and accelerometers inside each wheel arch constantly monitor the sounds passing into the vehicle, while digital processors calculate the level of noise-cancelling sound required to filter this from the cabin – much like a pair of high-end headphones.

Instinctive convenience contributes to the sense of modern luxury and New Range Rover features Deployable Door Handles with Proximity Sensing, Soft Door Close and Approach Unlock, for effortless entry to the vehicle while preserving the clean lines of the exterior. Automated Walkaway Lock helps ensure security.

    Seamless technology

Land Rover’s powerful Electrical Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0) supports an ecosystem of seamless connected technologies, including Software Over The Air (SOTA). The clever technology provides remote updates for 63 electronic modules, helping ensure New Range Rover Sport remains at the cutting edge of innovation, modern technology and services throughout its life.

“Living with the New Range Rover Sport couldn’t be easier thanks to its suite of connected technologies. Our award-winning Pivi Pro(3) infotainment is at the heart of the experience and its haptic, curved floating touchscreen provides intuitive control of the vehicle systems,” Alex Heslop, Director of Electrical Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover. “To help drivers maintain their focus, embedded Amazon Alexa(8) voice AI is on hand, so customers can keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel while doing anything from setting the navigation and placing calls to selecting media sources.”

The award-winning Pivi Pro infotainment features a high resolution floating 13.1-inch curved touchscreen positioned at the center of the modernist dashboard. Controlling everything from navigation to media and vehicle settings, it learns the user’s habits and intelligently personalizes the onboard experience, becoming a truly intuitive personal assistant3.

Pivi Pro features an easy-to-use interface with a home screen that can be personalized to include most frequently used functions, while the majority of features are accessed within just two taps of the main screen. Haptic feedback enhances the system by providing positive feedback to the operator’s inputs, reducing the need for the driver to take their eyes off the road to confirm their selection. The Pivi Pro screen is complemented by a 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display, with high-definition graphics that echo the main Pivi system, and a reconfigurable layout so drivers can see the information that’s most important to them(3).

Amazon Alexa(8) brings a new level of convenience, providing the ability to control various settings and features using natural voice commands while reducing the potential for distraction. Alexa is embedded in Pivi Pro and can simply be activated by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Alexa button on the touchscreen. The clever voice AI even integrates the use of Alexa devices in the home via the Land Rover smartphone app and Remote Skills.

Alexa works without a smartphone – all owners need to do is log in via their Amazon account for the vehicle’s built-in eSIMs to provide connectivity. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Wireless Android Auto™ are both fitted as standard5, meaning smartphones can be tucked out of the way on the dedicated 15W Wireless Device Charger, beneath the Pivi screen, without the need for trailing wires.

New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s dynamic performance and enhanced refinement is supported by the latest driver focused Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)(2). All models are fitted with Emergency Braking(9), 3D Surround Camera, including front and rear parking sensors, Wade Sensing(10), ClearSight Ground View(11) and Maneuvering Lights – Cruise Control, Driver Condition Monitor, Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.

    Electrified performance

A comprehensive line-up of electrified powertrains deliver customary Range Rover Sport performance. The North American range includes an extended Electric Hybrid, two six-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engines featuring mild hybrid technology and an all-new V8 Twin Turbo. In 2024, the New Range Rover Sport line-up will evolve with the addition of a fully electric model.

The new P440e Electric Hybrid is engineered to meet the demands of drivers looking for a high-performance drive, impressive efficiency and an estimated range of 48 miles(1). It seamlessly blends Land Rover’s 3.0 liter six-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engine with a powerful 105kW electric motor and 31.8 kWh battery, producing a total system output of 434hp. It provides effortless acceleration and refinement, completing 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds(7).

Alternatively, the new flagship V8 Twin Turbo produces 523HP for the most exhilarating Range Rover Sport character, accelerating from 0-60mph in just 4.3 seconds(7) with Dynamic Launch engaged and bringing an added level of visceral excitement to the line-up.

The comprehensive choice of powertrains includes powerful P360 and P400 mild-hybrid straight six Ingenium gas mild-hybrid engines.

    Peerless capability

New Range Rover Sport is the most dynamically capable version of Land Rover’s luxury performance SUV ever, and the most competent away from paved roads. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (iAWD) integrates with the latest all-terrain innovations and technologies to ensure its breadth of dynamic capability(2).

“New Range Rover Sport vehicle’s advanced chassis dynamics feed into its immense capability away from the tarmac, utilizing its hardware and software to full effect.,” Rory O’Murchu, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar Land Rover. “It is the first Land Rover vehicle to feature our new Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control, which has been engineered to help drivers focus on steering the vehicle by providing consistent and comfortable progress across rough terrain(2).”

Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control is an evolution of All-Terrain Progress Control and allows the driver to set the desired speed and comfort level, from a choice of four settings, over rough surfaces. It is the first Land Rover vehicle to feature this capability, bringing enhanced off-road performance to the line-up by allowing the driver to focus solely on steering the vehicle across challenging terrain(2).

Terrain Response®(20 automatically detects the surface and terrain to adapt the chassis to best deal with the situation, prompting and informing the driver via the Pivi Pro touchscreen. It works in harmony with the comprehensive chassis systems to make the most effective progress off-road(2).

New Range Rover Sport will be exclusively produced at the Solihull Manufacturing Facility in the UK alongside New Range Rover, on a state-of-the-art production line housed in the same building used to produce early Series Land Rovers vehicles. The historic location is the spiritual home of Land Rover and its reimagining as a new, ultra-modern center for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport production epitomizes the way the company protects and celebrates its unique heritage.

  • Porsche 911 Sport Classic: back to the future

2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic - Front Angle View

2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is the second of four collector’s items that Porsche has presented from its Heritage Design strategy. A total of 1,250 examples of the limited-edition model by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur will revive the style of the 1960s and early 1970s. Like its immediate predecessor, the 997-based 911 Sport Classic presented in 2009, the appearance of this model is inspired by the original 911 (1964 – 1973) and in particular the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The 911 Sport Classic can be ordered now, with prices starting from 272,714 euros.  Delivery will be available from European Porsche Centres from July 2022 onwards and additional markets will follow.

“The Heritage Design models represent the more emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy,” says Alexander Fabig, Head of Customisation and Classic. “This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades.” Porsche is launching four limited-edition models over an extended period. The first of these was presented in 2020: the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition with design elements from the 1950s and 1960s.

Porsche Design has also created a high-quality chronograph exclusively available to drivers who purchase the collector’s edition vehicle. The watch seamlessly picks up on numerous details from the new 911 Sport Classic design. As part of the Heritage Design Classic package, selected interior elements of the new 911 Sport Classic will also be available for most current 911 models.

    Reinterpreting historical design elements

The wide body – otherwise reserved for the 911 Turbo models – a fixed rear spoiler in the style of the legendary ‘ducktail’ Carrera RS 2.7 and the double-bubble roof underscore the distinctiveness of the new 911 Sport Classic.

As with the first 997-generation 911 Sport Classic launched in 2009, the designers were inspired by the Fashion Grey paintwork of the early Porsche 356 when choosing the exclusive paint finish for the new limited-edition model. “The new 911 Sport Classic is the first vehicle to feature Sport Grey Metallic paintwork,” says Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. “Grey is never boring, quite often a statement and always cool.” As an alternative to the exclusive Sport Grey Metallic finish, the new 911 Sport Classic is also available in solid Black, Agate Grey Metallic or Gentian Blue Metallic. Twin stripes painted on the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler in light Sports Grey emphasise the car’s sporty design.

In the interior, the iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern can be found on the door panels and seat centres, while two-tone, semi-aniline leather upholstery in Black/Classic Cognac provides an elegant contrast with the exterior colour.

550 PS for the most powerful manual 911 available today

The powertrain concept is equally unique: the 3.7-litre, twin-turbo flat-six engine transmits its 405 kW (550 PS) to the road via the rear wheels only. In combination with the seven-speed manual gearbox, the new 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful manual 911 available today.

The gearbox has an auto-blip function that compensates for engine-speed differences between the gears with a brief burst of revs when shifting down. The standard sports exhaust system is specially tailored to the model for an even more emotive sound experience.

The suspension, based on that of the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS models, meets high performance requirements: thanks to the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), its shock absorbers respond to dynamic changes at lightning speed. PASM is combined as standard with the sports suspension, which features a 10-millimetre-lower ride height.

  • 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo

2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo

No matter the form of motive power, the GTS variant of any Porsche is the optimal combination of performance and luxury, without sacrificing everyday usability. The Taycan GTS sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo exemplifies this distinction. Enhanced styling and performance as well as unique suspension tuning and Electric Sport Sound among an array of changes that denote that this is the first electric GTS.

Pricing for the Taycan GTS sedan starts at $131,400, while the pricing for the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo will start at $133,300. Neither price includes $1,350 delivery, processing, and handling fee. Both Taycan GTS models are available to order now and U.S. deliveries will start in Q2 of 2022. EPA range and consumption figures will be available closer to delivery.

    Similarities

The Taycan GTS sedan and GTS Sport Turismo feature the same permanent magnet single-speed front motor, larger permanent magnet rear motor with a diameter of 245 mm and an active length of 210 mm, and two-speed rear transmission. This setup provides a total power output of 590 hp with Launch Control, slotting the GTS models in between the Taycan 4S (462 hp) and Taycan Turbo (670 hp).

Much like the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S, the Taycan GTS comes standard with the 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus and its 800-volt architecture means it can handle continuous demand while minimizing heat build-up. This translates to high charging speeds of up to 270 kW and is part of the reason it can charge from 5 to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes, while accelerating both variants from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Inside the Taycan GTS, the familiar multi-screen dash and ergonomic and sporty seating position remains. And many of the standard technology and comfort features from the other Taycan sports cars, such Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, Porsche Connect with Porsche Charging Planner also come standard in the GTS variants.

    Differences

Although numerous components of the Taycan GTS family are inherited from the top-model Taycan, there are notable differences. Visually, the GTS wears the SportDesign front fascia, and the SportDesign side skirts and side window trim in high-gloss black. The rear diffuser features a high-gloss black inlay. The side skirts feature GTS logos, and the badging on the rear is in matte black. The standard 20-inch Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheel features an exclusive satin-black finish, and the rear light strip features the Porsche logo in black. Finally, the LED-Matrix-Design headlights with PDLS Plus are tinted in black, and the exterior mirror cap-bottoms are painted in body color while the base is in black.

Though the suspension and performance equipment is carried over from the top-model Taycan, the calibration and tuning are all bespoke to the GTS. All the standard and optional performance features have been massaged to make the car even more responsive and connected to the road than before. The standard braking system shares the same red six-piston front caliper and four-piston rear caliper as the 4S, but is equipped with larger 390 mm front rotors (vs 360 mm on the Taycan 4S). The rear rotor size is the same as the 4S, at 358 mm. Porsche Surface Coated Brakes, with tungsten carbide coating, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are also available. Even the Porsche Electric Sport Sound has been tuned to be deeper and louder for both bystanders and passengers alike.

Standard performance features include Adaptive Air Suspension with Smart Lift and Porsche Active Suspension Management, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Sport Chrono Package including the GT Multifunction Steering Wheel and Mode Dial. Optionally available performance equipment includes Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport, Rear-Axle Steering, and 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin black.

    Interior

The Taycan GTS features a unique Race-Tex interior package that reflects similar treatments from other GTS model lines. Driver and passenger seats feature 18-way electric adjustability and memory functions with “GTS” logos on the front and rear headrests. The door sill guards and interior trim is in brushed black aluminum and the accent package is in black. Roof lining and steering-wheel are also covered in Race-Tex.

Optionally, an available GTS Interior Package includes deviated stitching in either Carmine red or Chalk on the dashboard, doors, armrests, steering wheel and seats, with matching seat belts, “GTS” embroidery on the front and rear headrests, Sport Chrono instrument dial and the Porsche logo on the floor mats. The trim on the steering wheel, center console and door trim are in matte carbon.

    New Sport Turismo

If the Taycan Cross Turismo exemplifies all-weather, all-road capability, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo sharpens the focus for the road. With the same interior dimensions as the Taycan Cross Turismo, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo maintains the 15.7 cubic feet of rear cargo volume in the rear. Fold the rear seats forward, and a total of 42.8 cubic feet is available. Like the sedans and Cross Turismo, the GTS Sport Turismo also features a 2.9 cubic foot front trunk.

Like the Cross Turismo, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo will also feature a glass roof and hard points to mount a Tequipment bike rack on the rear of the vehicle. Optional equipment includes roof rails, and an all-new Panoramic Roof with Variable Light Control. This system allows the driver to adjust the amount of light by activating nine liquid crystal film segments in the roof, much like a digital clock. There are four preset patterns, clear, matte, 40% (Semi), and 60% (Bold). Or each individual segment can be activated from the PCM. When the vehicle is switched off, the roof automatically switches to matte, and once restarted, the system will remember the previous roof setting. This option is also available on the sedan as well.

Visually, there are additional cues that separate the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo from the existing Cross Turismo family. The rear spoiler is paint matched to the body color, and there is no cladding over the wheel arches. The ride height for the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is shared with the sedan, lowering the center of gravity even further.

  • Toyota GR Supra Sport Top Concept

2021 Toyota GR Supra Sport Top Concept

Last year, Toyota remained committed to the automotive aftermarket and the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA), hosting its 2020 SEMA360 Showcase virtual presentation and unveiling its latest creations, including the GR Supra Sport Top. For 2021, Toyota is excited to “show the metal” and give the GR Supra Sport Top the live in-person SEMA Show debut it deserves.

Intended as a continuation of Toyota’s tribute to the much heralded and loved MKIV Supra of the 1990s, it celebrates the removable-roof Supra models of the past and is a fitting companion to the wildly popular GR Supra Heritage Edition that debuted at SEMA in 2019.

Both the GR Supra Sport Top and the GR Supra Heritage Edition will be on display in Toyota’s 2021 SEMA Show exhibit (Central Hall, Booth No. 24800). For the first time, SEMA attendees will be able to feast their eyes on both builds side by side and experience the ultimate Supra tribute.

“We are very excited to finally get a chance to show off both of these incredibly cool GR Supra builds at the SEMA Show,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president – Toyota Division Marketing. “The team did some spectacular customization and fabrication work to pay tribute to Supras that came before, and we’re finally going to show them together so SEMA fans can see them up close and personal.”

Marty Schwerter and the Toyota Motorsports Garage set out to conceptualize the GR Supra Sport Top Edition and create this open-air Supra tribute. It features many of the Heritage Edition’s custom visual cues and performance upgrades yet takes a fresh look at the retro-inspired build.

“Toyota really wanted to have a companion to the Heritage Edition. But, this was no easy build, and we put a lot of thought into cutting the roof and removing a significant part of the car’s structure,” Schwerter said. “It was way more complicated than we originally thought. Removing the top was extremely tough and required some innovative work to retain the GR Supra’s rigidity. I love how it came out, and I hope others love it, too.”

KC Mathieu, owner of KC’s Paint Shop in Fort Worth, Texas, led the roof removal work.

“The steel was a little harder to cut through than we expected,” said Mathieu. “We started with an air saw and got nowhere real fast.”

Though concerned that after 30 minutes they had only cut about an inch of steel, KC then switched gears and tried a different cutting tool. After some time, the metal of the roof really started to yield, and eventually the surgery would be a success.

The roof design features two composite panels 3D printed by Toyota Motor North America Research and Development in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The roof panels were contoured to the GR Supra’s body lines and the car retains the windshield header and the driver’s and passenger’s side outer roof body structure shapes. To maintain structural integrity, the team reinforced the roof’s outer body structures and added reinforcement underneath from the engine bay to the back of the tub.

With an opportunity to take a new look at some of the Heritage Edition’s custom upgrades, the team worked on making the hand-built rear diffuser and underbody airflow more efficient. They also reworked the exhaust and created a new custom setup featuring dual pipes in the center of the rear fascia. Of course, the iconic MKIV rear basket handle wing was also integrated into the decklid, while round taillights complete the MKIV rear treatment. KC’s Paint Shop did the final body work and applied numerous coats of BASF paint mixed to exactly match the OEM GR Supra color Absolute Zero White, creating a strikingly flawless finish. The GR Supra Sport Top Edition and GR Supra Heritage Edition share many of the same custom upgrades, but both are visually unique and fitting tributes to past Supra models.

  • 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2

Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 is a legendary car. It was introduced back in 1985 as a better and more powerful version of the Sport Quattro model. The brutal car is still known as the most powerful rally car ever competed in an international competition. With Walter Röhrl behind the steering wheel, the S1 E2 won the Pikes Peak in 1987. The monster rally car produced the unbelievable 600PS (441 kW).

However, the officially stated power of the inline 2.1 liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine was 480PS (350 kW). A recirculating air system helping the turbocharger spinning at high RPM, when the driver does not apply the throttle allowed the engine to resume full power immediately after the resumption of full throttle. This was extremely good move, because it reduced the turbo lag a lot and boosted the engine to 507PS (373 kW) at 8000RPM.

Furthermore, the overall weight of the rally car was just 1 090kg (2403 lbs) meaning a stunning power-to-weight ratio of 2.15 kilograms per horsepower. The performance is incredible even nowadays. 0 -100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and the top speed depended on the selection of gears. Some of the car had a special power-shift gearbox, which resembles the double-clutch technology.

With such power, the S1 E2 needed an aggressive aerodynamic kit including huge front and rear bumpers, wheel arch extensions and a massive rear wing to keep the car on the ground. The down force and the grip were sensational.

With such figures and technology back in 1980’s, the success was imminent. The race-drive Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer won the 1985 San Remo Rally. The car was also driven by the famous driver Michèle Mouton. The S1 E2 was the final Group B car produced by Audi, because the team left the Championship in 1986.

Even nowadays, all motorsport fans remember Audi Sport Quattro S1 and talk about the fearless race drivers in Group B back in 1980’s. Because of the accidents, these rallyes no longer exist.

  • Maserati at the European Motor Show Brussels

Maserati-Benelux-shadowMaserati Benelux took part in the 90th European Motor Show in Brussels where it showcased a lineup of four luxury performance cars and girls dressed in Fendi. Fendi is a fashion line which is in partnership with Maserati for the two companies have a lot in common – quality, craftsmanship and elegance obviously. Some 15.000 VIP guests attended the event. That included artists, customers, business partners and government representatives. Maserati’s models didn’t seem to wear any clothes at all and had strange names such as: the  Quattroporte GT S, GranTurismo MC Stradale, the S Automatic and the GranCabrio Sport.

But we have heard them before, haven’t we? Yes, the all-sensible Quattroporte has four doors and the practicality of an IKEA bedroom and yet it somehow doesn’t emanate boredom and dreariness. In fact this Sport GT S version has a 4.7 V8 engine that delivers 440 hp and 490 Nm of torque which makes it as exciting as owning a bear. The exhaust system is also partially to blame for all that power. There are valves that control the back pressure within the system and in SPORT mode all the taps let loose with the final result being a beautiful symphony of thunder and power.

The GranTurismo S Automatic bares the same 4.7 V8 with virtually the same specs and yet, because it is lighter than the Quattroporte, it has a higher top speed and slightly better road manners. It also features an innovative self-adapting automatic transmission which can be set up to change gears even at 7200 RPM.

Then there is the hardcore, lightweight Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. It is the flagship performance car of Maserati for now and it is designed to meet the need of the most picky car enthusiasts. The Stradale benefits great handling and aerodynamics thanks to the company’s experience on the race track. Engine size remains the same (a 4.7 V8) but power is up by 10hp resulting in the blistering 450 bhp and 510Nm of torque. A 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes just 4.6 seconds and the top speed reaches the 300 km/h mark.

Last but not least, the GranCabrio Sport, designed for sunny days, makes an appearance. Power is from the same upgraded 4.7 V8 (450hp) Its specially tuned, yet based on the Quattroporte Sport GT S six-speed transmission includes a super-fast MC Auto Shift mode. The Skyhook active suspension has also been revamped for the greater handling performance. Other than the fact that it is a soft-top one can notice a change in the lines, the nose, the details – character laden profile with this GranCabrio Sport indeed.

Maserati ended a perfectly successful 2011 which saw an increase in sales by 10% or so. North America remains the biggest Maserati importer with 2465 units sold in the past 12 months while China is trailing behind as the world’s second largest Maserati admirer
