  • Hyundai Partners with Bisimoto for 708 HP Flex-Fuel Sonata

Hyundai and Bisimoto Engineering are joining forces for the third year in a row, to create a 708 horsepower Sonata for this years SEMA show in Las Vegas. Last year, the Bisimoto’s team, which specializes in extracting huge output from Hyundai’s engines, has created the 1000 horsepower Bisimoto Genesis Coupe for the same show.

This time, the power gurus will be working on Hyundai’s 2.4-liter “Theta-II” 4-cylinder engine. They will be using a combination of strengthened internal components such as forged pistons, connecting rods, a high-revving valve train and camshafts and high-boost turbocharger. The goal is to extract exactly 708 horsepower (520 kW) from the unit. The power will be sent to the road via six-speed manual transmission.

The team at Bisimoto conducted hundreds of hours of testing, failure analysis and prototyping. The result is 18 new products which will be engineered and produced in house to deliver the 708 horsepower. Furthermore, the Sonata will feature a special custom laminated body wrap and graphics, as well as extensive overhaul under the hood.

Rounding out the exterior credentials of the car are the Bisimoto front splitter and aero package, Fifteen52 18-inch aluminum wheels and the Burns stainless exhaust system. Inside, the interior has been given a sporty feel with the addition of racing harnesses, AEM wideband gauges and EK Autoworx interior paint.

2015 Bisimoto Engineering Sonata will offer space for four and will be revealed at Hyundai’s SEMA press conference on 4th of November.

  • 2015 Hyundai Sonata Goes On Sale

2015-Hyundai-Sonata-2-0T-THUMB2015 Hyundai Sonata is currently going on sale. It will offer its customers a more refined look thanks to the implementation of the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. In addition, it adds features such as hands-free Smart Trunk, Smart Cruise Control with stop/start capability, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel.

The new design language includes stiffer body structure, better ride quality, and accents on the reduced noise, vibration and harshness. This Hyundai model is also equipped with advanced safety and convenience features.

As a standard, 2015 Sonata comes with seven airbags. In them is included the new driver’s knee airbag, which was created in order to help prevent the driver from sliding down the seat in a case of collision. Additionally, this allows the other restraint systems to be more effective.

Other active safety technologies assist drivers and help prevent accidents. Again as a cost-option, the car can get Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Lane Departure Warning System.

There are three trim levels equipped with the revised 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine. Namely – the Sonata SE, Sport and Limited. The powertrain produces 185 horsepower (136 kW) and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft) of torque. New for 2015 is the Electronic Intake Continuously Variable Valve Timing (E-CVVT) system that enhances the overall performance in low temperatures and also minimizes emissions.

The refined 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI includes E-CVVT, and powers the Sonata Sport 2.0T models. • Hyundai Reveals Sonata’s First Interior Rendering

Hyundai-Sonata-Interior-THUMBYesterday Hyundai Motor Company showed us a shadowy teaser image of its brand new Sonata model. Today, the South Korea’s largest automaker is unveiling the first interior rendering of the car. The latter is scheduled to make an official debut in its home market in the end of March. Interestingly enough, Hyundai began receiving pre-orders for the midsize sedan since the first teaser was released (this means yesterday).

The debut of the model in the United States will be in April during the New York International Auto Show in April. This new Hyundai model is going to have a rear-drive, exude brand’s emblematic design language and therefore – impress with its “fluidic sculpture”.

As visible from yesterday’s render, the new Sonata will sport softer lines, aggressive hexagonal grille with a chrome surround and redesigned headlights. Speaking about today’s image, it is seeable that the interior if refined too. We can notice that it will be a two-tone interior.

Hyundai stated that high quality materials were used for ensuring occupants ultimate luxury experience. The car will be also equipped with the intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) with a high-mounted infotainment screen, which is present in the current rendering.

More information about the model to be disclosed very soon. Stay tuned!

  • Hyundai Previews New Sonata [TEASER]

Hyundai-Sonata-THUMBHyundai has just released a shadowy teaser image showing the new Sonata. The car is going to be launch very soon in Korea later this year, where it will make its world debut. United States will see the car during the New York International Auto Show in April.

The upcoming mid-size sedan is going to have a rear-drive as brand’s Genesis, which was on display in Detroit. Of course, Hyundai retains it emblematic design language and continues to impress with the “fluidic sculpture”, which is visible even in this render.

The new Sonata will feature softer lines, aggressive hexagonal grille with a chrome surround and horizontal slats and redesigned headlights. The brand uses the term “Inner Force” to describe car’s design, which directs to the fact that the redesigned sedan is reborn with an evolved aesthetic force that stems from purpose and sophistication.

Inside, the interior was refined too. High quality materials were utilized in order to deliver the ultimate luxury. The new Sonata will be also equipped with the intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) with a high-mounted infotainment screen.

In terms of safety, the car sports more high-strength steel and more structural reinforcements, seven airbags, and redesigned chassis for better protection. Unfortunately, Hyundai hasn’t released any information about the powertrains of the new Sonata or whether there will be ay updates.

  • 2013 Hyundai Sonata Tackles Other from its Segment

2013-Hyundai-Sonata-thumbDon’t you hate it when car manufacturers bash one another over which one is the leader in a segment? That’s exactly what Hyundai are now doing with their 2013 Sonata. We had to go trough bulks of comparisons between their car (the 2013 MY) and 2012 MY Altimas and Accords, Malibus and Fusions to actually get to some relevant information. Whichever table we looked at, the Sonata was one step ahead… but is that really the case?

It is cheap, we’ll give them that. At $21,720 you get a Sonata GLS complete with the “Popular Equipment Package”. That roughly means front heated seats and fog lights among other luxuries. Power comes from a Theta II GDI 2.4-liter unit which, judging by the acronym, one might think it’s a diesel. The thing is GDI stands for Gasoline Direct-Injection and that’s what the Sonata uses to spray fuel into the cylinders at pressure of 2,175 psi. Thus the compression ration stands at a high 11.3:1 and the pistons inside are dished so that they can handle the combustion process more efficiently. With all that in mind, we are being told that the Sonata achieves 24 mpg in an urban environment and 35 mpg on the highway. The transmission that comes as standard is a six-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC and has to deal with 198 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The SE trim also boasts a standard dual exhaust system which adds 2 more hp and 2 more lb.-ft. of torque.

While the 2.4 Theta II GDI is naturally aspirated, the 2.0-liter one is turbocharged. That means even more power and almost no compromises in terms of efficiency – 274 hp at 6000 rpm and 269 lb-ft of torque within the 1,750 – 4,500 rpm range.

On the Hyundai Sonata 2.0T SE trim you get a fully automatic temperature control unit which is convenient. What isn’t convenient, but rather exciting, is the sporty suspension – stiffer springs and larger stabilizer bars, resulting in a 20 percent increase in roll resistance. Add to that 18-inch, low profile tires and a constantly adapting electric power steering and you’ve got yourself a car that does not shy away from a corner.

Driver aids include the usual ABS and ESP systems but also Electronic Brake-force Distribution – depending on the place of load, braking power gets redirected. Six airbags and active front-seat head restrains keep you safe and sound.

It goes without saying, that inside, the connectivity is topnotch – XM Satellite Radio for three months, Bluetooth, a place to plug in your iPod or USB drive and a touch-screen navigation system that comes with the SE and Limited trim levels.

Overall, the Hyundai Sonata sounds like a decent car. The only thing the company needs to do is to stop jabbing the others and gain and focus on their product. The automotive industry should not tolerate dirty play.

The vehicle sits on 245/45 R18 tires on 18” Hyper silver alloy wheels – standard. There is an optional 19” Hyper silver alloy wheel fitted with 245/40 R19 tire.
