The third generation of the Superb was a sensation at its world premiere in Prague in 2015. Its design language, luxurious interior, wide range of modern assistance systems and highly efficient engines were well received. Also, the third-generation Superb introduced several technical innovations to the Czech carmaker’s model range: Dynamic Chassis Control, adaptive chassis, parking assist and three-zone air conditioning. The spacious Superb estate was added to the range in the same year.

  • SKODA celebrates a milestone anniversary! Superb has turned 85 years old!

2019 SKODA Superb 85 years ago, on 22 October 1934, SKODA team unveiled the Superb lineup. The name highlighted the quality and comfort of brand’s new luxurious model, which until then had simply been released under the name S 640. Between 1934 and 1949 there were more than 1,000 first generation Superb vehicles rolled off the production line. And in 2001, the prominent Czeck manufacturer revived the vehicle by implying a contemporary approach towards the drivetrain system, design concept, and utility gadgets.

Inspired by the Latin word for “stately”, the first SKODA model to bear the Superb badge was 5.5 meters long, 1.7-meters wide and 1.66-meters tall. Furthermore, the vehicle was powered by a 2.5-liter 55hp six-cylinder engine. The high demand quickly led to longer delivery waiting times, which have eventually expanded to two months for the convertible model.

SKODA team has continued to present improvements and upgrades for about four years, until the team proudly unveiled Superb OHV back in 1938 with the massive 80hp in-line six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3,137cm3. There were also several Superb 4000s produced right before the war. This production was revived in 1946 when the brand showcased a revised version with a six-cylinder power unit.

    2001 SKODA Superb

Some decades later, in 2001, SKODA Superb makes its dramatic comeback. The refreshed lineup features attractive design and excellent value for money. After building more than 130,000 units, SKODA has managed to launch a second-generation in 2008. This new family member presented numerous innovations, among which can be seen KESSY keyless access and start system. By 2015 there were a total of 404,756 units of the hatch and 217,734 estate versions rolled off the production lines at the SKODA plant in Kvasiny.

Featuring tons of “Simply Clever” additions and changes, the automobile offers new assistance systems and massive leg- and headroom for passengers.

And now, SKODA presents 2019 Superb. The flagship machine showcases major updates: there are full LED matrix headlights and an expanded range of innovative assistance systems. The Superb iV will also finish the cycle of innovations and advanced technology by presenting a plug-in hybrid drive next year.

  • Skoda will challenge supercars from the ’70s and 80’s. Stupid idea, indeed

    2016 SKODA Superb 200hp

This time SKODA team tries to do the impossible. And most likely it will fail. The engineering team tries to achieve performance rates from a vehicle that are enough to challenge a Lambo car or a Ferrari. And the most surprising thing? Well, SKODA is not going for this ultra-high quality next-gen hyper ultracar which goes from 0 to 200 mph in two seconds. Nor the team will charge some six figures for the model. So, let’s see what is going on here!

We talk about a new Superb model with 2.0 TSI 280hp (208kW) power unit. In fact, SKODA claims that this is by far brand’s most refined and powerful engine provided so far. And what for? To challenge a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB. Genious, SKODA. Challenging a 40-year older vehicle seems a good idea. And it is worth spreading the news. Apparently, SKODA team has way too much free time.

Along with its not-bad-sporty-oriented drivetrain system, the new Superb also comes with tons of luggage space. Okay, not tons, but a good 660 liters of free space. This also makes this particular mode one of the most spacious throughout all SKODA lineups.

SEE ALSO: Skoda Kodiaq is here. First images and details reveled!

Available in SE L Executive, SportLine and Laurin & Klement trim levels, the vehicle offers 18-inch alloys, Columbus satellite navigation system, electrically operated boot, leather upholstery and heated seats. Of course, we get the ambition to prove itself worthy among retired vintage cars, but we prefer not to talk about that.

It seems as SKODA team needs a summer vacation. A long one.

  • Skoda Superb SportLine: mixes sports experience with convenience

    Skoda Superb SportLine front view

To be offered with three petrol and two diesel engines

Skoda is often regarded as a mediocre brand, which offers family cars based on a Volkswagen’s platform. And it is actually famous for the latter. There are a lot of faithful fans out there and an equal amount of haters. Regardless on which side you are on, Skoda is strengthening its positions in the automotive word and releasing vehicles which are better than they have ever been in the brand’s history. We are witnessing a continuous expansion of the lineup, as well as extra equipment with every single model the Czech company releases. Let’s see what’s going on in their “garage” now.

The newest addition of the Superb lineup has been revealed. It is called SportLine and it is intended for those looking for sportier experience but still want “to keep it safe”. The first thing you have to know is that you can opt for this car in an Estate or Hatchback variant.

SEE ALSO: Skoda reveals the new bear-inspired Kodiaq SUV with couple of sketches

Then you should be probably thrilled to know that the Superb SportLine offers an enhanced “sporting” design. To prove this let us tell you that the car features 19-inch Anthracite Vega alloys, Bi-Xenon headlights, sports design bumpers, and black gloss grill. Sunset glass, wing mirrors, window surrounds and the body-colored spoiler are making it look even more dramatic. If you have chosen the Hatch, then you’ll also get the rear spoiler at no extra cost. To keep the family trend, Skoda has equipped the Estate with roof rails in black gloss.

    2016 Skoda Superb SportLine wheels

The cabin has suffered some changes too: it adds a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with silver stitching, quilted Alcantara sports seats (they are kind of nice, aren’t they) and LED ambient lighting. But what really make this Superb stand out, as a sports edition, are the carbon dashboard trim and the aluminium pedals.

The Superb SportLine has also lowered chassis. Compared to its family, it sits 15mm closer to the ground. Another benefit that brings about excitement in the driving experience is the XDS electronic differential lock, which ensures the sharper handling.

If we have convinced you that this is the best car for you, then you should also know that it comes in various color options, but there is one in particular, which has been specifically introduced for the SportLine. It is called Dragon Green metallic (you will love it!), but unfortunately you should specify it as an option.

At last, there are a lot of engine options offered for Skoda Superb SportLine, precisely three petrols and two diesels. The range-topping is the 2.0-litre TSI 280PS 4X4, which makes it to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and emits just 160 g/km CO2.

  • How Green is the 2015 Skoda Superb GreenLine?

Let’s say it right away. The latest ŠKODA Superb is extremely efficient when it comes to fuel consumption. Especially the GreenLine lineup which will be presented to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The vehicles come with really impressive fuel consumption, measured at 3.7 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 95 g/km for the hatchback version. Furthermore, ŠKODA team ensures us that with one fill at the petrol station you can go for more than 1780 kilometers. Interesting, isn’t it?

The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine 1.6-TDI/119 hp (88 kW) comes with manual gearbox, Start/Stop engine system and brake energy recovery as standard features. Furthermore, owners of GreenLine models will be granted with additional goodies like longer gear ratios and SCR (Selective Catalyctic Reduction).

But the ‘green’ engine is not the only thing that makes the latest Superb model so appealing. The vehicle also comes with some aerodynamic changes and overall style upgrades. The chassis is with 15 mm lower than the standard Superb model and the vehicle features a tailgate spoiler. And the engineers have done some additional improvements for the drag coefficient: the Superb GreenLine now achieves a total of 0.263 and the Combi GreenLine goes for 0.275.

And the GreenLine version is now offered with ‘Active’, ‘Ambition’ and ‘Style’ subversions. As you know, since 2008, the GreenLine idea has been one of the most important for ŠKODA and its models.

So, it appears to me that ŠKODA’s path is defined: eco-friendly ideas and numerous changes in order to deliver high quality components and comfort. But will it be that good, we are about to find out.
