ŠKODA KODIAQ carries company’s new design language into the SUV segment

The debut of ŠKODA KODIAQ will happen in a month on September 1st in Berlin. Since there isn’t much time left and the interest must be raised, ŠKODA has just released four images and a teaser video of the upcoming SUV, which is destined to transfer the brand’s new design language into the crossover segment.

Since we have a number of photos, let’s comment on what we are about to expect from the new model. The aim of ŠKODA’s designers is obviously to impress the public in Berlin. The radiator grille appears to be wider than expected, with three dimensional design, and coming in combination with narrow and rake-like headlights. The appropriate question here is whether the full-LED technology featured will be standard on the KODIAQ or not? Well, unfortunately it will come as an option for those keen on goodies like the LEDs.

Next, at the sides we see the athletic shapes of the doors, while the rear’s tailgate shows an expressively design forms. The good news here is that the rear lights will be fitted with LED technology as standard, shining in the typical ŠKODA C-shape.

But there are also details we can’t see on the teasers in the gallery, which ŠKODA has politely disclosed. First, the KODIAQ is going to offer a large amount of space. Precisely: a capacity of 720 to 2,065 litres, when the rear seats are folded down. If you haven’t heard, the SUV will have the convenience of a seven seat option.

In terms of driver assistance systems, ŠKODA has equipped the KODIAQ with Area View, which uses surround-view cameras at the front, rear and in the wing mirrors; Tow Assist and Manoeuvre Assist. The connectivity won’t be left inappropriate, because the company has ensured that the innovative ŠKODA Connect mobile online services are featured.  By the way, what we know so far is that they will be divided into two categories: the Infotainment Online services and Care Connect services. The centrepiece of the latter is the emergency call following an accident (it automatically calls emergency if an airbag is activated).

So are you excited for the word premiere?

Skoda Kodiaq SUV breaks cover under military disguise

Skoda Kodiaq has been finally revealed as the company stars its major advertising campaign. Being 4.7m long, the SUV has the largest boot capacity within its class. In addition, it will be offered with the option of a third row of seats. Skoda fans must be excited right now and what they need to know is that the new model will go on sale in the beginning of next year.

Of course, the company did not disclose the entire specification list, but instead put a strong emphasis on the key advantages of Kodiaq. Here is what we know so far.

It seems that Skoda’s way to be future oriented is to include more technology and connectivity features. So, it promises that the Kodiaq will sport a variety of infotainment and online connectivity treats. Precisely, the SUV will be given Volkswagen’s second-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix, which offers numerous functions and interfaces, and what Skoda calls “capacitive touchscreens”.

Columbus and Amundsen systems are featured as an option and they come with a WiFi hotspot as well as LTE module for faster mobile services. In addition, the Skoda online services run via the Skoda Connect App, which is also helpful in cases of checking, configuring and finding the car from afar via a smartphone. The SmartLink platform, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate are all there.

The Kodiaq also comes equipped with a wide range of driving assistance system like the Area View cameras, the Tow Assist system and Front Assist, Parking Distance Control and more. But besides the technology and assistance systems, Skoda says that probably the most important asset of Kodiaq is the design, which is “full of character and emotion”. Furthermore, the SUV can be specified as five- or seven-seater, offering a capacity of up to 2,065 litres or the largest boot within its class.

In terms of engines and chassis, the new model in Skoda’s line-up can be specified with two TDIs and three TSIs. At the top of the range stands the 2.0-litre TSI petrol with its 180 hp (132 kW). The transmission options available are the six-speed manual gearbox, DSG transmission, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. One can also go for an off-road ride with the four-wheel drive specification just at the touch of a button specifying the preferred Driving Mode.

Detailed information and more images are going to be unveiled soon as Skoda is starting a major Kodiaq campaign. Stay tuned!

  • Skoda reveals the new bear-inspired Kodiaq SUV with couple of sketches

Skoda Kodiaq Sketch - front viewSkoda Kodiaq is the next SUV in brand’s lineup and it has been just unveiled with couple of sketches. Well, we must say we are a bit disappointed because it looks like a Fabia but on bigger wheels. Kodiaq is about to celebrate its world debut in September, and Skoda is obviously expecting to impress the public. But it won’t do that if the production version really stands for what the sketches show.

What does the Czech brand says? Well, according to their opinion, Kodiaq is about to make “a strong statement” with its “impressive combination of powerful design and generous space”. Since the design is inspired by the new generation Fabia, with clear-cut lines and three-dimensional effect, we would definitely say that the SUV we see on the road is Skoda-made.

In details: the “striking design language” we witness on the sketches shows highly recessed shoulder line, flat and raked headlights and wide grille. The rear highlights Kodiaq’s sporty character and it tries doing so with the C-shaped LED rear lights. The side view shows the long wheelbase of 4.70 meters (the only benefit here, because this SUV is offering third row with two optional seats) and short overhangs.

    But is this enough?

The information we have about the interior is that it will be big and will adopt the “clear design” of the exterior. Skoda also disclosed that it will feature strong vertical elements, like the four large air vents, a large display which will split the instrument panel into two equal sections for the driver and passenger.

At last, if you still wonder what the name means, here’s the secret behind it: as the largest SUV in Skoda’s range, its name refers to the Kodiak bear species, which are currently living alongside 14,000 people on the Kodiak Island and on its harsh but captivating landscape located off the southern coast of Alaska.

    So impressive, Skoda, so impressive!

  • Kodiaq is Skoda’s largest SUV to be premiered in the second half of 2016

Skoda Kodiaq SUV teaser image Skoda Kodiaq is the newest and largest SUV in the lineup of car in company’s family. The rather strange name of the vehicle is not accidental. Since it is the larges in the range, the name refers to the Kodiak bear species, which lives on a remote island off the southern coast of Alaska.  And this is the way the indigenous people of the Alutiiq have called the bear. What we also know is that the new SUV campaign and its debut introduction will happen in the second half of 2016.

There are not so many details available at the moment, but Skoda has actually given us a hint with the Alaskan story. 3500 Kodiak bears are currently living alongside 14,000 people on the Kodiak Island and on its harsh but captivating landscape located off the southern coast of Alaska. So are we to expect that the vehicle will sport a great off-road and all-weather capability? Or would it be as big as the biggest SUV in its range?

In addition, the native people, the Alutiiq, has helped (not directly but rather inspired) Skoda’s team to use the letter “q” at the end of SUV’s name. The reason: the Alutiiq call the bear Taq uka ‘aq and the ‘q’ is characteristic of animal names.

Well, Skoda has actually confirmed that the Kodiaq is 4.70 metres long and will accommodate comfortably seven people. In addition, representatives also said that it will offer fantastic performance both on and off the beaten track. We haven’t seen the design of the SUV so far, but what we know for sure is that it is an expression of its hidden power. So the design would definitely feature muscular lines representing dynamic, robust and strong appearence.

At last, Skoda will be launching a campaign for the promotion of the SUV under the moto ‘Discover new ground’. In addition, the model will be also marking the beginning of the brand’s new SUV campaign, and will aim at attracting new consumer groups in this segment.

We are expecting curiously the public debut of Skodsa Kodiaq in the second half of 2016, while the market debut is planned for the beginning of 2017.
